I'm suppose to fly soon to Bankok for surgery but I heard there's this martial law thing. Does this mean there's a civil war in Bangkok going on right now? Will this affect my surgery schedule.

But can anyone tell me what could be the reason Chettawut is not replying. I have to leave my country in 7 days now to go there and he DIDN'T tell me NOT to come NOR is he confirming he is receiving my email since 3 days to give me green light to fly off. I don't even know what number to call there in any case I'm stranded at the airport.

I call on that office number but no one never picks up.

What should I do? Just fly off and happens whatever happens or what?

And if I cancel my flight according to that airline's fare rules I lose everything and cannot be postponed nor refunded.

Furthemore I'm scared not to go as Chettawut might give me a penalty and forfeit the 20% deposit I sent.

SO WHAT SHOULD I DO IN THIS CASE, I'M SO LOST PLEASE ADVISE!  :embarrassed:

Australian government say you are ok but keep away from the centre of Bangkok. The Thais don't want to get foreigners hurt or involved.

To be honest if you have a legitimate reason and keep copies of your travel documents with you there is (currently - end of May) no real problem. If you look western and stay away from trouble you should be fine. I will be there in 9 weeks - and am quite relaxed at the moment.

But with everywhere it is a case of be prepared.

Also remember that not only are you seeking medical treatment in Thailand, you could also be considered a tourist, which in the Thai economy (like many others) is a significant source of income for them. I'm sure they can separate their politics enough to be friendly to visitors. :)

I had the same problem as You. He IS replying, but you just don't get the messages. His mail software is broken or faulty, I don't know.

Give them a call, keep calling like crazy. I'll send you a PM.

In assuming you are using the email of Ms .... I've also noticed a lack of response over the past couple of days but that seems to have been normal over the past month of two. A few days with regular email exchanges and a few days without. But I hear your anxiety. Do you have travel insurance? Is there anyone else out there at the moment?

Currently no country had issued a travel ban and you have necessary business there. So it should be going ahead as normal. As a side note he is very popular amongst French speaking community and there may be more news there.

I'll fly out in 8 weeks for my SRS with him, and am awaiting confirmation of my final payment so if I hear anything I'll let you know.

Oh and from crowcrow -- I found my gmail messages often don't get through. I have to use my professional address - and always cc myself. I can imagine some email sites are heavy traffic...

I would imagine their communications could be down or hampered with all the things going on. In military coups or combat operations communications are the first things disrupted.

I have a friend in Thailand currently, she lives there.. She's only getting out to the wider world via a VPN, she says local internet is 'dead'..

According to BBC the curfew has been relaxed. There is no war - although military presence is strong. One of my office colleagues was there last Friday and wasn't bothered. The tourist economy is very important to them. you have every right to be apprehensive - but currently no cause for alarm. Unlike parts of Kenya where they shipped out all tourists at short notice 10 days ago because of perceived attacks.

Last Friday I received and anwser from Jittada in answer to a question I asked a couple of days earlier and like Mel believe she is probably working part time as I have noticed in the past that I get grouped answers to my mails.
Apart from that, I don't believe you should have any worries about travelling to Thailand which has a long history of military coups. Also, between direct revenues and indirect, it is estimated that tourism generates  about 20% of GNP so nobody wants to rock the boat.
I suspect it was far more awkward a couple of years ago when the airport was occupied by one of the two fueding political factions. I can't remember which but at the time, the situation in Bangkok was far more tense than now.
Wishing you all the best.

Don't panic hon, the social media is largely closed down, but life is going on and tourists have been assured that they are safe and taxis to and from the airport are fine.

That probably explains why she no longer answers you, she got fed up being misgendered.... ;D
As it happens I'm not absolutely certain that she's a woman but since she signs off Jittada (Ms.Som) K....................... I guessed she must be.

This BBC News link http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-27600394 has an interesting report filmed in Bangkok one night ago. As seen there is really no change to daily life except less people out at night. Western Governments dont like Coup's and Western Press like to sensationalise things... but in reality... it looks pretty relaxed out there.

We are traveling to an Asian country, culture. Things are valued differently and we should not judge by Western standards.

Arriving at the airport; direct private taxi to the clinic for consultations; taxi to the Hotel and then 2-3 days relaxing and shopping in the malls before going under sugery and recovery. To be honest you probably wont see or sense much happening in the city until recovery week 2...

Good luck with everything, take your time to recover well and look forward to the next part of your life.

Oh thanks hon I'm saved she finally answered me back YOUPIEEEE!!! It's true what you said I think she's a part timer as she gets back every 2-3 days.

Dear Ms. ,

I still would like to confirm that you can travel to Thailand without any problem. The situation now is actually good for Thai people and they have announced that tourists are still welcome to come in and out normally. The military is taking over just to make sure that there will be no violence happen between the protesters and the government supporters. We should get the solution about the new government soon.

We will pick you up at the airport as we already prepared the letter from our center that explain everything to show to the police in case they stop the car.

There should be no problem affected to your plan. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.

Regards,
