Denise

Met up with a co-worker tonight as Denise.  She is the first from work to meet Dee.  Afterwards she texted me saying in part "I clearly see that you are not a Dan."  She also said that the earrings look great.

She's a wonderful friend.

On the way to my first HRT appointment, my wife and I stopped in a restaurant for lunch.  We were addressed by the waitress as "ladies".  And while I was visiting the (gender-neutral) washroom, she came back to clear my dishes and asked my wife if "she" (i.e. I) would like to keep "her" fork to finish the french fries.  :D

Congratulations, that sort of affirmation is so neat!

Today I found that for every jerk out there, there are many wonderful people.

An overenthusiastic fan of free speech had left me a message in spray paint on my new car.  I got some of it off myself, but rather than damage the car's paint I tool it to a detailer near the regional transit station, then rode that to my medical appointment today.  I picked the car up on the way back, and it was all clean and shiny, no trace of the unwanted communication.  The gentleman behind the counter said, "No charge, ma'am.  We're sorry this happened."

Wow.  That was pretty neat of them, as I'm sure this wasn't a quick 5 minute job.  I'm back home, very grateful and happy after the whole experience.

My personal transition path included medical changes.  The path others take may require no medical intervention, or different care.  We each find our own path. I provide these dates for the curious.

Michelle, so sorry this happened to you, at least you had a good outcome :)

About a year ago someone scratched "f*#k the police" on the hood of my BMW while I was at a fundraiser.  That took a lot more to repair, and I am not even a cop.

Finally added horomones and progesterone to my 'diet' along with the testosterone blockers.

I'm still waiting for someone to decorate my vehicle at work, like carving my hardhat wasn't enough..

My petition to The Court for a name and gender marker change received preliminary approval this afternoon.

Time to order new checks and schedule some appointments. The DMV and Vital Records (birth certificate) paperwork is ready to go, awaiting the certified copies of the court order.

I'm gonna be a Real Girl just as soon as the judge sprinkles me with gavel dust![emoji7]

Social Security before DMV, at least that's how I had to do it in Massachusetts. SS needed Michael's ID to  change Michael's records to Devlyn. First question they asked me at the registry was "Have you been to SS yet?" which I had. Congratulations!

Hugs, Devlyn

In New York they accepted the letter itself. I actually went to Social Security later.
April 22, 2015, the day of my first face to face pass in gender neutral clothes and no makeup. It may be months to the next one, but I'm good with that!

Being transgender is just a phase. It hardly ever starts before conception and always ends promptly at death.

They say the light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train. I say, climb aboard!

Thanks!  Yup, the first appointment will be with the Social Security folks.  I'll be carrying my copy of the Program Operations Manual System RM 10212.200 Changing Numident Data for Reasons other than Name Change TN 5(06-13) so the person I get will have instructions handy on how, when, and why they must update the sex field on the Numident.  (A sex field?  Is that how they do it on Star Trek? "Nurse Chapel!  Activate the sex field!")

Next appointment is with the California DMV, where I simply provide the court order, the DL-329 as completed by the doctor to revise the gender marker, the DL-45 for the name change, along with lunch and a snack while queuing.

Meanwhile the Priority Mail envelope for Vital Records will be winging its way along with another certified copy of the court order, an original birth certificate copy, the form to 'correct' the birth certificate, and another doctor's letter.

Once I have the new birth certificate and new drivers license, neither of which hint at my old name or gender (Yay California!) Michelle applies for her very first shiny new passport, with no hints of her past in the paperwork because all the submitted documents have a consistent gender and name.  Nope, no doctor's letter needed!  (Double-checked with the Oakland Transgender Law Center.)

Wheee!  I'm going to be busy, and probably a little giddy when not bureaucratically outraged.

Last time I talked with my psychologist he was very positive about my "social growth" in regards to my family, and this month I asked my father to come join me at my psychologist so that he can hopefully gain a better understanding of what it means to be transgender. The best part is... My psychologist said that after my dad visited, it would be a good time to start hormones! So... This might finally be it! I'm psyched, as it looks like after a year of sulking I might finally start my transition this year!
