How long is your hair?

I haven't cut my hair since Aug 2017. It was only about 1/2" long at that time. It is now 4-5" long. I'm not out to anyone but my wife.

I'm retired, but by Christmas my friends were kidding that I needed a haircut. I see most of my friends during the summer playing golf, etc. It's almost that time of year and I'm not ready to come out yet.

I'm trying to decide whether to cut it short and start again this August or let it keep growing and deal with the jokes?
I hope to be starting HRT very soon.

Have you let your hair grow?

Hi Katie. I am in the process of regrowing my hair.  It was down to the center of my back for decades, until I got a wild hair up my butt and cut it.  That was 20 years ago and wish I hadn't.
Keep growing your hair, try not to allow peer pressure to dictate your actions.  Who cares about a little ribbing, when what you will gain means so much more.

people got used to me with long hair. I'd get it cut about mid-ear length a few times a year (once it reached my shoulders). Or I'd be lazy and just trim my bangs out of my face and it'd go over my shoulders.

Not sure on length now but it's roughly mid-shoulder-blade area and still going.  My bangs need to catch up due to the trimmings, close to chin length now.
I left the door open, only a few came through. such is my life.

I'm 58 and here is my hair.  I haven't cut it, except for occasionally trimming the ends, since I started HRT in Jan 2015.  So, that's about three years.

Did HRT help make your hair thicker/fuller? My hair is very fine. I could use a little more fullness on top.

I feel like HRT made my hair finer.  That may be an illusion though since it's never been long before.  I don't think it changed thickness at all but it was pretty thick to start with.

I have let it get to shoulder length but I'm going to get it cut short in a day or so. Long's not great for some of the summer outdoors stuff, might let it grow out in the winter. I have clippers and fairly good at cutting my own hair so I'll probably just use that for a while.

My hair just touches my shoulder blades. I love trying different styles every day. Some days I am wild as the wind, other I may have a ponytail (high or low or even asymetric) braids, pigtails. I love to tie colored bows in, or weave ribbons into my braids. I do get some second looks when topless in guy mode! And it is all fun.

The hair was dyed about 2 months ago blonde, my dark is coming back.  I think I cut it to just below the neck back then if I recall.  It grows relatively fast now.

If I could figure out how to insert the pic directly I'd do it. Pft :P

My hair is about 4"-5" long (see avatar). I used to just buzz it with clippers because I never knew what to do with it (men's haircuts... ewww), but I started letting grow last fall. I can't wait for it to be long enough to do stuff with!  ;D

How did you post the picture directly?  I can link the url easy enough, but every time I try inserting the picture so it pops up here it won't function :/

Doreen,

I don't know how to do that either.

I love your hair!

Michelle - Your hair looks great! Very feminine.

Deborah - Someday I want to be able to have a ponytail like yours. Guess that means I shouldn't cut it?

At the risk of ruining everyone's day with unfiltered facial features, here is a snap from, oh, just now showing wind-blown  front length. It's much longer in the back but for some reason I couldn't get my arms to twist back there.

I started growing my hair august 2017 too. It's now just past my ears now on the side. When I pulled it down as straight as possible it's past my mouth in the front.

The back... I won't even go there it's a mess right now lol
All over my head the hairs are SO uneven but I just have to let it grow out. I really was hoping it would look better/grow more than this by now...

It's very hard for me to be in this inbetween phase. In "guy" mode, I would have my hair buzzed very short every 4 to 6 weeks. I'm so used to it being neat. I guess this is (yet another) a struggle I have to go through right now.

I started growing my hair out in 2009. My hair is down to mid buttocks now . I desperately want to cut it drastically. Its a pain in the ass to style ( it takes me 3+ hours to flat iron it) . But I am terrified to cut it because I remember the days when I dreamed of having long hair .  It almost feels like betraying myself .  Over the years I have had it cut several times 6 inches here , 8 inches there. I would like to cut off a good 10-12 inches but can't bring myself to do it .

@GCHR88 .... I agree with your comment about "betraying myself" and the other comments on this thread about hair and how hard it was to finally grow out hair that could be styled in a nice feminine way.   I have been full-time for over a year and a half now, and I started growing out my hair back well before I started HRT over 3 years ago.
I keep my hair length at or just below shoulder length and when it gets longer than that and I know that I need to have it cut, it just pains me...  part of me wants to grow it much longer but like you said it then becomes a big task to style and to get ready to go out and about with it looking good.
Thanks for posting your comments

Danielle

Presently falls about an inch above my bra strap, so well past the point where I need to take good care of it. It's a little bit of extra work I'm glad to do and I plan to let it grow another year to midback. I'll see then it it's starting to be a problem with daily activities, I'd love to grow it to lower back or more ... TBD.

Based on my experience: Keep it growing. Hair is painfully slow to grow. February 2017 was the last time I went for my pervious 1/4 inch buzz cut. And that hurt so much, but there was no other practical choice back then. I had the tips trimmed once since and to be fair it needs to be done again since they started splicing. Lucky enough I decided to go full time in June of 2017, so at least most people knew. Except my in-laws. I did go through a lot of pain in the first 8 month before it finally had reached a length where I could do something with it. By now it has grown to be about shoulder length. I do want another 4 inches, pretty much center breast.

There are a few things I can already do with my hair but since it is still a bit different in length, I sometimes let it air dry which gives me some nice wavy hair. Many days I actually have to contain it with either a hair band or a Pony Tail. Need the cool breeze in the summer and right now they just keep blowing in my face way too much.

So I just had to live for a long time with stupid comments. Especially from my in-laws. My wife finally blew a fuse and told them (she did not want to for a while longer) which stopped the stupid comments. Her coworkers still make stupid comments but I just avoid them altogether.

Sp if you can deal with comments or if you find a funny reply (like: "No worries, I auditioned for a metal band and they require long hair") you may want to keep going. It just takes too long to grow the,m back.

Back when people were giving me a hard time about hair I had two standard replies.  Either I said I was growing it long because I like it or that I was maintaining the hair balance of the universe since so many others had no hair at all.  Occasionally someone would ask if I was getting a sex change and I just said that maybe I am.  For the ones that said I looked like a girl I asked them if they were asking me out on a date.  I had a lot of fun with those replies.
