As of 2006, Dr. Cinzia Marchese in Italy used Stem cells to grow a natural functioning vagina for 2 women. With this in mind, I am confident that the technology to recreate a vagina, uterus, and even ovaries for MtF transexuals is within a decade's reach. (In all actuallity, it could happen right now with the proper support.)

Proper SRS is at hand.

When this occurs, yes, we will be able to become pregnant, as well as say 'goodbye' to ANNOYING hormone regimens.

( I placed my edit above the below explanation because the technology does indeed exist.)

Under present available surgeries to the public at large, this is not available. The Sex Reassignment Surgery operation provides a neo-vagina from the penis, but no uterus. It will be possible with stem-cell therapy when we are able to grow replacement organs; it will be possible for a woman (biological or not) to have ovaries, a uterus, a vagina and fallopian tubes (and attending parts) lab grown and have them transplanted into the woman without fear of rejection.

All this will possible with out using cloning. Without more research into stem-cell therapy (non-blastocyte and blastocyte), personal organ replacement will not be possible. This same technology will stop many deaths because there aren't enough organ donors for people on transplant lists. An organ made form your own flesh will be a miracle for thousands, even millions of people.

Hi you all, i'm always searching for better possibilities for us all. I've been reasearching and i have posted "post" before stating current information on growing the female reproductive organs. Scientist said that they are able to grow anything inside the body. What are we sitting and waiting for? New doors opening up for us? I think so. Here are some sources  i have ran across.

The thing is, many people put it aside, when we need to be really taking advantage of this

Wow, I hadn't realised quite how far stem cell research had come. Hopefully it won't be continued to be demonised by extremist religious groups

That's nothing

Within 20 years of so I will warrant that you'll be able to have gene therapy to knock out your existing Y chromasome and replace it with an X. Then all those who argue that we aren't really the sex we appear because of our chromasomes will be well and truly kiboshed! At that point you'll find the church will suddenly make having gene manipulation into a mortal sin and will declare that anyone who undergoes it loses their imortal soul or some such other twaddle - either that or they will finally at last have to accept that we have actually and unequivocally changed sex!

...and not before time either!

That's going to be quite amazing when that day comes! We do not have that long, stem cell has been around for awhile...just hidden!

Rose , as intregeing as this whole theory sounds ........... I remain skeptical as to weither the "sensiory " nerves will also regrow so that someone wishing to have such a operation might have a fulfilling afterlife . I know for a fact that there is ongoing research at Virginia Commonwealth University within the medical College of Virginia to have Penis's that might actually function on the Female to Male transmen . I said to one of the reserchers a couple of years ago I would be delighted if that were in the cards . Still, I would like to see a city run by and for transpeople and that dear will be a dream ............. Ellen

DON'T GIVE MORE IDEAS TO RELIGIOUS PEOPLE!! STOP!

now, this tech is great! I hope scientists can polish this technology and apply it :D It's really gonna be exciting

The extremists who will inevitably speak out against this, whatever grounds they claim will just be a noisey minority. I suspect the limited popularity these extremists currently have is not reflected by the volumes of reporting they attract. (Or should that be the amount of attention they create?).

Like some, I recall the first successful transplants. The talk was of Frankenstien people and so on. Even now we hear stories of people being abducted only to wake up later with an organ missing.

Like eshaver, I too am sceptacle. There have been so many predictions over the years, generally as a prelude to an application for some research grant.

But it is interesting.

Like most new technologies this one will be a) highly and closely regulated in the beginning and b) prohibitively expense for most for a long ways out.

To what end? Women don't even use there extra X chromosome one of them are randomly shut down inside the cells only a few genes on the end of the second sex chromosome are used.

I've heard it from FTMs they say there twice as likely to go bald because they are XX but it simply dosen't work like that.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barr_body

The SRY is the only important gene on the Y the rest of the genes are associated with spermatogenis knocking out that Y is pointless after the embryonic stage.

It's interesting but there are still other unusual things like the fact that uterine muscles are attached to nerves... These nerves are needed in childbirth how on earth are you supposed to attach them?

Even tho it would be fully functional would it feel like a normal organ? or would it be numb and sensation-less.

nanomachines... use nanobots inside the body to rebuild those parts until achieving the desired results. Imagine new techniques of surgery that can allow that...

Actually axonal growth in the Peripheral Nervous system is quite easy to achieve. Hooking it up to new hardware might be a bit of a challenge though.

Honestly, this is part of the reason I am putting surgery off in my life. Currently they can remold the body to often look and sometimes even function, as the intended hardware. Really though with all the news I've seen about people regrowing damaged tracheae with their own stem cells etc. I think there is good reason to wait.

I doubt this will happen, but if enough of us hold off the consumer pressure might be enough to push the market to innovate in this direction.

KO ing a chromosome in a developed body will not work. We may and can KO off a gene or two but not a chromosome. Stem cell growth of an organ is very possible and happening, but the cost? And the need, I think TG will be at the end of a very long queue, pancreas, heart, liver, kidney, lung, brain, limb, etc. "NO we will concentrate on vaginas for MtF then move to penises for FtM (sorry guys ladies first). That is the priority of our research." I can see my funding bodies throwing the cash at me already ::)

Nerve growth through such factors and NGF and BDNF  and derivatives is looking very interesting, but the targeting of the growth is at the moment uncontrollable (so far as I am aware). Again I think we may be at the end of a long queue; if the technology works.

Don't hold your breath

Sorry

I'm reminded of the claims that transplantation of animal organs is only 5 years away.  These have been around for over 20 years, and each time it turns out to be just a little bit more complicated than that!
I won't be holding my breath over this either.

I think think growing your own female reproductive organs could be done now with the proper surgery at hand. Without chromosome change, we would all have boys...but thats better than nothing!

Don't be sorry dear. This is a very important reality to contend with. Personally, I still hold off, in hopes that the techniques etc. will be further refined. Indeed we've all heard horror stories of surgeries gone wrong. I am confident that this will improve over time.

Little Dragon

I sure hope this technology gets made more refined so that trans girls like us all over the world could become real girls and have babies :) On second thoughts, have these vagines been childbirth-tested?? O.O

I'd liek to know what these vaginas are like in the long-run
