For the past few months, I've been listening to a bunch of Korean pop music - artists like SHINee, Super Junior, SNSD, B1A4, MBLAQ. I also used to listen to Japanese artists like Gackt and Dir en Grey. :P

I am a big fan of the Eurovision Song Contest and have set out to collect all the songs along with their language variations.

I also like French girl singers of the 60s, so one of my latest acquisitions was Francoise Hardy's Find me a Boy which was the English version of her hit Tout Les Garcons.

Also stashed in my collection is a bunch of stuff with Eastern Bloc singers doing western pop songs in languages like Czech.

Have a rather large stash of that sorta stuff

I didn't know she did an English version! ;D  I'm actually listening to it on Youtube right now.  The French version is one of my favorite songs of all time and I have most of her '60s catalog, but had never run across this English version.

Actually, another of my favorite bands, Saint Etienne, did a version of Find Me A Boy in 1999, but for the last 12 years I assumed it was their own version of Tous Les Garçons.  Turns out part of the lyrics are from François Hardy's English version!

Nowadays, a most popular singer in S. Korea is probably Park Jung-Hyun (Lena Park). Because people here are tired of idol groups, they want REAL singers. She is one of them. She is bilingual (Korean and English), but also can sing in Japanese.

I normally don't like J-Pop, but I've found I quite like this group now. :)

La Quiete (italian melodic hardcore) and Amanda Woodward (french melodic hc) are definitely two of my very favorite bands, have been for a while. Also dig Julith Krishun (also italian melodic hardcore), and a couple songs by Zabriskie point (french punk). I definitely recommend them to anyone.

There is actually a CD of some of Françoise Hardy's non-French recordings. It called All Over the World, and has German, English and Italian versions of her stuff, but only an English Tout les Garçon. She did it also in German (Peter und Lou) and Italian (Quelli della mia età).

I like her as well as  France Gall and Sylvie Vartan.

This topic makes me think of a Frisian song that was popular 10 years back. While Frisian is a recognized language in The Netherlands, few people use it.

Over here we never get any songs in a language other than English or to a lesser extent, Spanish.

I remember when 99 Luftballons first came out KROQ (L.A. based radio station) played the stuffing out of both the English and German versions

There is also a 2002 reissue  (also done by Nena) of 99 Luftballons that has French lyrics.

Back in the 80s when it was hit, I was trying to figure out someway to get my then girlfriend clued into my crossdressing. Given that guys were wearing makeup and all, I told her that I wish I looked like Nena. She never got it, but did let me wear makeup to a  Psychedelic Furs concert.

In other news, I have a collection of 'western' top 40 hits done by Czech and Slovak artists such as Karel Gott, Vera Spinarova, and Hana Zagarova. Karel Gott's Czech version of The Doobie Bros' Long Train Running is a fave of mine.

Vera Spinarova did a Czech version of Blondie's Heart of Glass, calling it Kozmicka Laska (Cosmic Love). I thought is was so cool that I adapted it for my non de plume, Kozmik Alaska,  as a writer of FTM crossdresser fiction.

My longtime fave is Rammstein, ever since I heard of them through the movie xXx. Solid German hard rock/hardcore that always gets my head bobbing. Daft Punk is also good, though their music is in English. I'm also a sucker for Bhangra music, those beats just won't stay out of my head.
Despite what my profile pictures show, I am a very smiley and upbeat person. I'm merely the least photogenic person alive, that's all :P
