Honey, you're too far gone to make the climb back up to 'real' man or 'real' woman, working not only on your own gender, but the subject of gender itself for quite some time, huh? I'm willing to bet things are still a bit scary and a bit serious for you in your life. Your next step would be to let yourself explore some of the place that really thrill you, no matter the social taboos. Just be kind and compassionate when you are doing it.
BUT!!! Her use of the word "gender" seriously confuses me, so many questions confused me as well...

Hey everyone,
That was kind of a fun test. I liked the silly answers. Anyways, I got a 93 making me a Gender Outlaw.
Love always,
Elizabeth
Okay so many of those questions needed more choices. And I could easily tell how my score was going to be affected by choosing 1, 2, 3, or 4. So that alone might have biased my answers. And I kind of wish I could be the kind of person that constantly answered with the last response! That must be fun ... my favorite response was "gender is what happens to me when I get dressed in the morning."
Anywho, I was officially a Gender Outlaw, but my score was 100 ... one less than the next one up, which I honestly felt I identified with much more. Oh well. Making mountains out of molehills.
102, gender novice... although maybe I didn't quite get the point, because I'm still not certain what that inventory was testing. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Stephanie:
I agree with you it was easy to see throught the questions but in that final analysys there was only one question that was the closest to my ideals answer, which is the way to herd responses into categories. Some of the questions were clever and actually learned from them. I think this what is called "The Hawthorne Syndrome" when the question biases the response because the asking the question makes the interviewed person aware of an issue and self corrrects herself sort of the Miller effect in electronics ... it was fun ... I love this little distractions.

Well, having read the book the message I got from it was basically, throw away all your ideas about gender and what you should be and just be yourself. :D I didn't quite see the need personally to take it to quite the extreme that Bornstein does - but I think the test has something to do with how attached we are to the traditional gender binary.

I can understand why someone might think this, especially if I had thought that the test was going to have been another version of the COGIATI or some softball items that I would have to be a moron in order to not score where I wanted to score.
To tell the truth, Kate devised something I found DID make me think. Yes, some of the questions were circular and even ridiculous. That is the norm for any sort of test of this sort. There are throwaway answers and answers that test my ability to lie well on any profile test I am likely to take.
What I found though, was that I, like Tink, had moved from well gendered (5 or so years ago) to gender outlaw. Hmm, what occurred? I suspect it was the realization that I do not have to answer the right questions any more to show that I am a woman. I just show up and that takes care of itself.
Not only can that be liberating for me; I imagine it is liberating for those I interact with as well.
One of the most curious syndromes I have seen in the TS community is how we often tend to join our own little branch of the gender police once we feel secure in our presentation. Yet, I imagined some doubts often remain and we feel more comfortable with a COGIATI test that allows us to express all the normal stereotypical answers we imagine everyone wants to hear if they are going to accept the validity of what we do/have done.
That may be a simplistic analysis, but I find it the most likely explanation of myself.

I scored as a gender outlaw, which did not surprise me.
I own a copy of My Gender Workbook, and having read that book makes the quiz make more sense. It is written to be ironic, not to seriously assess your gender. The test shows you how much you believe in our society's rules about gender. Kate Bornstein disagrees with these rules and wrote the questions in a way that makes fun of them, right down to the categories. I hope that helps you understand. :)

We are F*d in your opinion. To us it feels right. I don't understand why some people can not accept that there are those of us who really are not "normal" and we are not ashamed of it.
Yes, what 'e said.
I'm not particularly proud of the score, or celebrating it -- and in fact I think that my low score is at least partly because the choices in the questionnaire were so odd. Still, it's how I deal with my particular brand of GID: I refuse to take sides, especially in terms of social gender. Yes, I realise that in some respects it is giving up, but I sincerely doubt I'd be any happier trying to conform to either set of gender expectations.
The test itself implies that a lower score is better. I don't agree with that, though: what's important is that you are comfortable with the way you see gender, and the test prompts a few thoughts on that. That's all.
Cheers,
Nfr
Quotewhy does anyone WANT to be a freak or social outlaw? because thats what this test rates, how far off normal are you. you can still be trans and get a score of 0 on this! why celebrate how f***ed you are?
It isn't about being a "freak" for me, I am who I am, just as you are who you are. Some people in society think all of us are freaks, no matter how "normal" we may try to be. I think that Kate might be using the term freak in a similar way as some LGBT folk have appropriated the term queer.
At any rate, what I'd really like to see is change in societal attitudes, and end of discrimination against trans people, no matter how they might appear. You want to be a "normal" woman, that's wonderful, I support you 100%. I want to be a "normal" androgyne/transgender/in between/neither gender/man in a dress/whatever. We both need to be able to live safely as who we are in this world. If believing this makes me a "freak", so be it, I'll wear my label proudly, and in style too.

I may be totally wrong here, but I didn't feel this test was really about transsexualism. The way I read it, it was about measuring how strongly one is attached to the binary (social) gender system, rather than the gender they were assigned at birth. I'm tempted to say these are different axes altogether; but if you want to consider them more closely related, this test was about the absolute value of the gender identity, not the sign. As a consequence, the extreme transsexuals would be expected to end up close to the extreme cissexuals on this scale, opposite the extreme androgynes. Roughly speaking, that is, and without any value judgements or even all that much guesswork about the intensity of anyone's GID.

This test is quite intresting Tink, some of the answers I just had to laugh at though. For example;

ok fine i can live with that...but you did have grs, didn't cha? ???
The problem here, is that most things asked aren't relevant to all. When I think of gender, I don't think mindset or stereotype of clothing preference, I think more of my body itself. Thats probably odd, but I just "feel* off in the actually body. I'll always be just ME in my head. Not girly me, or manly me. Just ME. I just feel like the body itself is off. Sexually too I never really liked the male role, its just the ME role. ETC.

I posted a 136. The test seemed skewed and there were some questions that didn't have any answers that pertained to me. This tells me there is no way it can be accurate.

It isn't really an aptitude test! It's propaganda for Kate's anti-gender beliefs, liberally spiced with her twisted sense of humor. Just take it for what it is, and you might be able to have fun with it.
