What do you guys think?

Gender is an interesting thing, isn't it? I want to hear what you guys were theorizing or thinking while you watched this!
Let the discussion commence!

I actually wonder if a new FTM bottom surgery process will arise from this, since everything is made out of the same parts (although altered).

Well, technically, we were all gender-neutral at one point with unspecialized glands, but I get the point. Gender is relative.  :)

He says a lot of people simply call it the "gender neutral" phase, but he says that ovaries and lady bits were produced in that stage.

But, like you said, my point was that gender was relative.

This is nothing new..

Did I ever claim it was?

We all bring things "to the table" here at Susan's whether they be new or not. I found this interesting, so I shared.

Nice to meet you, by the way. I've seen you around, but we haven't talked before!

The speaker was simply talking about physical gender, whether it be correct or incorrect. I just found it really interesting.

I mean, if I were an MTF, I would think it was really cool to say "you know, we all started out female. So did I. And I intend to keep it that way." Or something like that.

This is a cool video, it's a nice way to present it. I've always found it interesting that female is basically the default gender of a developing person. I also find it amusing that the Y chromosome is the SoRrY gene lol ... I would have to agree with that :)

I think to discuss intersex issues would have gone way beyond the scope of this video, or the fact that there are about a dozen other variables that effect what gender and gender traits you actually express, but there is a slight nod to it during the video.

Good stuff.

Agree ^^^ completely, the video is 100% accurate!!

The other paradox is that during the period just before birth and just after birth you need estrogen in the brain for the female brain to turn male....and in the female both T and E have to be absent (sequestered by alpha-feto protein 1) to remain female

That's an interesting point. I also find it interesting that, although there are clearly physiological functions that take place specifically to feminize or masculinize the brain, this is rarely if ever mentioned officially. The focus is always on genitals, reproductive abilities and secondary characteristics. You would think brain gender would be considered fully as important, and probably more so, than these other areas. I suppose this is a case of out of sight, out of mind, since you can't physically view brain gender like other characteristics.

You are right...and even in this forum information about the biological basis of GID is more often than not met with disdain and/or hostility...so I seldom post anything about..but the medical data bases are chuck-full of all kind of neuro physiology, imaging, anatomical and biochemical papers that demonstrate clear gender specificity and yes.. people with GID tend to norm with the gender they identify with

I often say to cis people: "gender identity like sexual orientation is between your ears not between your legs" I made this saying after Annah's

To answer the question in the first post, I don't think this fact is a door to any FTM surgery. Not yet, at the very least. Assuming the mutation is still possible on a born person and it's not "locked" for some reason, for it to happen, you'd need stem cells and a pretty good knowledge of them. I don't think we're really close to that right now. Besides, stem cell research focuses more on spinal injury repair, for instance.

In a far future, perhaps. But as I said, it's possible that it's just not possible to revert anymore once the proto-female organ has been "locked" into a female organ. Maybe, maybe not. But either way, not now at all.

This is exactly what I would say. Couldn't agree more.
