Just heard an interesting comment on a TV phone in this morning.

Dr Who has been a role model for several generations of young boys who solves his problems with his brain, not his fists.

Good point.

Not really a big TV fan these days, but gonna check out that Youtube clip, simply because the title is so.................preposterus.

Just watched. Brilliant. So many searching questions answered. So many intriguing possibilities.

I've never really ALLOWED myself to cry at tv shows or movies, but Doomsday (Season 2 finale) was quite the tear jerker.

BBC confirmation or not I still think it is BS, partly cause he said he will be back to film series 8. Also could be mis-information for build up.

The SO and our friend are watching it in the other room right now.  I can hear it.

Go watch!  You'll like it, I promise.  Especially if they're watching a David Tennant episode.  If you haven't seen it, ask them to put on the episode called "Blink" so you can get a good feel of the show.

from what I've read on facebook, so this could well be totally wrong, a memo was e-mailed out to all BBC staff instead of the correct few staff it needed to go to, advising them that they would have a new Doctor for the start of season 8, next year.  Apparently within an hour of this being revealed, the BBC released an announcement that there would be an embargoed announcement by midnight that night, which some newspapers seemed to break early by revealing their Sunday front covers around 10pm onwards.  One can only speculate that Matt returning for season 8 was a smokescreen to cover the upcoming regeneration this Christmas, or maybe he did change his mind, until someone high up in the BBC goes on the record in an interview and explains everything I think it'll remain one of those gray areas

Smith is leaving.  I vote for a female Doctor.

It does not take courage or bravery to change your gender.  It takes fear of living one more day in the wrong one.~me

It would give some variety, that's true. But what kind of Doctor would she be? The last few doctors had quite the unique personalities. Might be a little difficult to find the Doctor being female and reacting to it. Should definitely be ginger, though.

I dunno - a female Doctor with the Doctor's personality would be a lot of fun to watch. But that would be incredibly hard to get right.

And they should definitely work in Matt Smith's 'I'm a girl?!' Somehow. :)

Another idea:

(Doctor regenerates)
Doctor: What the?-
(looks at first like the Doctor's new gender bothers her but then:)
Doctor: Still not ginger?

I'm picturing something like this:

Quote
THIRTEENTH DOCTOR: Emma, look, I've got atheric beam locators.

EMMA: No Doctor, I'm afraid those are actual breasts.

THIRTEENTH DOCTOR: (peering down coat) Are you sure? I think I can see the 'on' switch.

EMMA: No Doctor, we have to face facts. You've come back to life and this time you're a woman.

THIRTEENTH DOCTOR: Really? I've always wanted to get my hands on one of these.

(She feels her body with her hands.)

EMMA: Unfortunately, I haven't.

THIRTEENTH DOCTOR: You're mother's going to get a bit of a surprise at the wedding, isn't she? Do you think we'll both wear white?

EMMA: I'm afraid Doctor, and I'm not sure if this sentence has ever been used so completely accurately before but, you're just not the man I fell in love with.

THIRTEENTH DOCTOR: Well never mind. We can still rattle around the universe, fighting monsters and saving planets. What could be more fun? My best friend by my side, my trusty old TARDIS and, of course...

(She pulls out a familiar object.)

...my sonic screwdriver.

(She switches it on a it begins to vibrate.)

Ooh look, it's got three settings!

The Doctor's Christmas special companion is a famous film star. :)

If legitimate surprised the replacement hasn't been announced yet unless we have already seen them XD

Along the current line of supposition
The Doctor should merge with and regenerate as.......wait for it...........

River Song!

but she's dead. Or is it timey-wimey-wibbly-wobbly?

I don't know. One could make the argument that John Hurt could be the next doctor.

Benedict Cumberbatch! :D

No, wait... He's a great Sherlock, but he'd make a horrible Doctor. :(

Problem is then River would know she is the doctor so that means the doctor married himself...well his ego might just make that possible I guess.

I like John Hurt but feel he is too old now to stick to the role for a long period and unless they supersede the limit(probably will) the 12th doctor needs to stick around for a long time. Longer than Matt and perhaps longer than Tom Baker(thought Matt would beat him). But yes I feel he is too old now maybe if the show had it's old format and not so much running then yeah he could do it. Besides he seems to have a penchant for revealing details he is not meant to.

I think if the role hasn't already been cast maybe cast a relative unknown again like they did with Matt.
