but she's dead. Or is it timey-wimey-wibbly-wobbly?
But, let's work this out using already established facts:
In "Let's Kill Hitler" River passes all of her regenerations to the Doctor in order to save his life
this could have introduced some of her (let's say soul for want of a better word) to mix with the Doctor's, and will allow him to regenerate based on her physical and probably mental template. (Remember how well she can handle the TARDIS and just how will/did she learn this
that's certainly time-wimey-wibbly-wobbly at work) as well as an explanation for additional regenerations beyond the 13 that has been cannon for Doctor Who.
In "A Good Man Goes to War" The Doctor asks River "Who are You? in response she places his hand on the cot he told Amy and Rory was his (he got it out to put Melody Pond's flesh avatar in, though at this point they don't know she's an avatar) and a few meaningful glances are passed between them and he then says "but that means you and I..." and then a lot of unfinished sentences later he's "over the moon" as he gets into his TARDIS at this point he really knows who River is and is certain that she will be OK.
In "The Name of the Doctor" she says " If I'm supposed to be connected to Clara then what am I still doing here?" and then leaves on "Spoilers, Good bye sweetie."
As spoilers go this is a doozie and one that has been foreshadowed copiously as I have just mentioned. Therefore I am certain that River will be the Doctor.
