So I am going to be made homeless after all.

In the middle of lots of paper work to the council and all sorts. They're going to try and find me a place to live hopefully. If that doesn't work, I will officially be homeless.

Which means my posting on here may become...limited. :P

I keep going through it in my mind, where the place to go would be? Besides all the obvious charities I'm talking location. Wales doesn't have a lot of support so I'm trying to decide whether to make my my way down to the south of England or travel north to Scotland, where I hear life there is a lot better. But London is the "it place" to be. Although Scotland is in a much better position than England in a lot of things at the moment.

Either way, I'm about to embark on a journey into the unknown.

I'm sorry to hear of your situation.  What's going on with your family?  Is there anyway you can stay if you can't find a place?

If you are choosing a new area, I would go with Scotland.  The unemployment rate is continuously falling and it seems like there are more opportunities for those within the working and middles classes.  It may be easier to establish yourself on your own there.

You remind me of myself years ago where I got fired from both house and job, fell into prostitution by force to survive and save cos I had to flee from my country from persecution. You you're just moving to another place in your own country where you might still be in contact with quite some people you know, me I was 100% alone in a new country where I knew nothing and thanks God I manage to get out. I personally advise you London than Scotland cos I have friends there and told me it's perfect. You should try to find a guy in dating sites who could help you out of all those turmoil. You'll get out, I feel it, like all fighters as us. Goodluck and think you're not the only one who passed through that, many have gone worse. Be thankful you're in U.K, imagine those who were born in country like me where you can be executed by law just for being gay, now transsexual, pfffft!

They can't cope with my OCD anymore. It's too much of a strain on them emotionally and financially. Also after my step dad hit me and we got into a fight I don't really think it's the right environment for me to get better.

If the council agree that I am eligible to be treated as homeless, they will have a responsibility to find me temporary accommodation if they cannot get me into a house. If they decide they can't help me then yeah I have nowhere to go. So i'll be looking at homeless shelters and such.

I'm really sorry.  Do you have any relatives or friends that are willing to take you in?  I'm not too familiar with social services in the UK (I'm American) but I would imagine it would be better to avoid relying on it.  Shelters in America tend to be low in resources, not accommodating and very impersonal with those in need.

While I am not from the UK, I do know a little about the world.  I would really look into a less expensive area than London.  It's going to be hard to establish yourself there if you are just starting out.  Do you feel you have to leave Wales?  It may be easier to pick yourself up there then to make a big move to an expensive city.  Do you have a trade or a degree of some sort?

I feel I have to at least leave north Wales as it's rural and not many job opportunities, so south Wales is an option.

Well the UK is more generous on support than the USA is, from what I gather, so there's plenty of charities and such that I'm learning about. I've never really known so many existed until now.

As for a trade or a degree, I have a degree in history, so who knows if I can find a job with that all.

All in all I'm in uncharted territory, so I'm just taking it step by step. Right now I have to wait on the councils decision. :S

Do you think you could go into teaching?  Most with a history degree pursue that route.  You could also find some work at a museum or some cultural society.  I understand what you mean.  I studied political science, so I feel your pain.  Having said that, you may get a job that is different from your degree.  In this day and age, there are many people that choose a field that is not related to their field of study.  Believe me, a college degree is a big plus, so you are in luck.

Also, you may have the option of going into other EU Countries.  While the UK isn't part of Schengen, I believe the Schengen member states treat it is as such (though I could be wrong).  If so, you could easily travel without needing a large amount of documentation.  This can make your job search a little easier if need be.

Honestly I hate the idea of teaching, I cannot stand kids (or university students).

Right now, I'm on disability benefits due to my OCD, so the job part isn't priority as much as housing is atm. But yeah with the therapy I'm having now it won't be long before I am able to start looking.

I've just got so much to worry about at the moment it's kind of hard to deal with it all.

Just checking in to see if everything is okay as I'm a little concerned.  I haven't heard from you in a while, so I'm hoping that things are getting sorted out.

That's sweet of you LtL! Things are moving on slowly. I have all sorts of forms to fill in to apply for housing. Got more calls to make on Monday. It's getting there slowly. I also have been offered a sofa by two friends who have come through for me if it ever gets to that.

I'm staying optimistic :)

Crisis has been resolved. Found a flat finally. Get to move in from October 12th. Then when I'm settled in I can make the first steps towards getting HRT. Weight off my mind!

I'm so sorry--if I could send you loads of cash, I would. I guess times are hard everywhere. It effing sucks.

But regardless of how "it" London is, if Scotland's gonna give you a better standard of living for the money, I say go there. Besides which, Scottish accents are dead sexy. . . .

In all seriousness, Scotland sounds like the better bet. But hopefully it won't come to you having to move at all, if that's not what you really wish to do. If Wales is where you'd stay, if you had your druthers, then I hope Wales is in your future, with a nice, secure, long-term home.

I wish you luck, and hope that your presence here is continued and frequent.

Scotland isn't any better in the whole housing situation, to be honest. We've been on the housing list for years and not once have we got an offer. Not even emergency housing is available. You have to wait for someone to die before you get somewhere, and even then you have to be fast.
It's not anyone's decision who you are, it's your own, and I appreciate the fact you think that way.
