Never seen an elephant garlic. Where can I get one?

Ask your grocer.

ELEPHANT  GARLIC   (Allium ampeloprasum)

There is some mystery and controversy about the sudden appearance of this vegetable in the last few years. One plausible explanation suggests that Elephant Garlic (Allium Ampdoprasum), is originally from the East Mediterranean, and was taken to the State of Oregon in the U.S.A. by immigrants from the Eastern Balkans, for their own use. It was re-discovered in their abandoned settlement in 1941, by a plantsman who selected it for size. It has also been suggested that Elephant Garlic and Leeks have both been selected over many centuries from wild garlic. Certainly, ordinary garlic, elephant garlic and leeks, all have the same form of flat, strap-like leaves, while onions and shallots have round, hollow leaves.

Last I checked, not in any local stores that I noticed.

i have a fascination with grocery stores. The first time I was ever in one, I was 17 years old. I was so awed like most kids when they go to Disney world or something. I learned that  soup comes in cans, potatoes are bagged in smaller than #100 lb bags, flour comes in smaller than #50 lb bags, cheese comes in a box, all these exotic foods in the fresh fruit and vegie isle, I could look through there forever. Foreign foods to make a meal in a box, dinner besides pizza came frozen in a store. I was in fantasy land. I spent day after day just wondering up and down the isles. I still do sometimes, at least in the fresh produce section.   (Did you know you can buy milk in the store?)

In California, we get them in the stores on occasion.  They grow lots of garlic, onions, etc, in the Salinas-Gilroy area.

I bought two.  One I am using, they other is still in it packaging.  It says "Distributed by MCL Fresh, Inc."  www.mclfresh.com

The brand is "4 Earth" www.4earth.net

Having an ongoing conflict with myself whether to make tikka masala or fish and chips. First world problems.

'm gonna try making a leek and tomato tart for this evening's meal, with Italian sausage on the side.  This should prove to be interesting, at least!

I marinated chicken breast tenders in hot sauce, dredged them in flour, deep fried them, and ate them on hamburger buns as chicken sliders.

Because I am the most predictable person on the planet, I ate the exact same thing tonight too.  ;D

But Devlyn's meal sounded good too! Going to raid your fridge one day.  ;)
