I bought a gift certificate at a tattoo shop awhile back when I had too much money and wanted to get chest tattoos to feel better about my nonstandard scarring. It's been long enough that my chest can be safely worked on, but I don't feel ready and the certificate had an expiration date so I went and got something simple on my arm to see how it feels to get professional work. I got an inch-thick black band just below the elbow, and I love it. I went to a place that is explicitly transfriendly and it was nice not to face suspicion about my age or comments about my soft skin.
They were also incredibly patient with my daughter's questions and general hyperactivity. One guy applied temporary tattoos to her arms (butterflies and a flower) and bragged to the other artist that he was able to do 3 tattoos in record time.

This is such an ego boost. I like inhabiting my body, but wanting to look at it is sometimes another matter.
