I am just hoping that the Doctor has a character again. I know that the series is based on flexibility but they never seemed to work out who Matt Smith's Doctor was, fool or genius, old or young and he just seemed to be whatever he needed to be that week. Capaldi's got a fair few years of experience behind him and I hope he'll force the writers into writing him a little more consistently.

What you're describing is pretty typical for many of the incarnations of the Doctor, though. Tom Baker would flip between intense and brooding to childish and playful, genius and fool on a regular basis. So did Patrick Troughton.  Matt Smith is definitely in my top four.  I think I was depressed for about 2 weeks after he regenerated.

It'll be nice to actually get some kind of season trailer soon. I feel like so much of this season is shrouded in mystery. I started reading some on-set spoilers, but I slapped myself and got out because I don't want to know too many specifics. It was great to go through everything without having any pre-conceived notions, not sure why I want to suddenly change that now.

Nearly.

I've not loved it since the christmas carol episode with the flying shark but I am optimistic about Capaldi.

Am I the only one who hated that episode? I'm beginning to think I am.

Your not the only one the Christmas ones are pretty hit and miss.  Why jump the shark when you can fly with it

That special had some good ideas wrapped up in a rather poorly executed story.

Personally I believe Moffat has trouble pacing his stories. So sometimes you have good ideas poorly executed because he is too ambitious for a single episode story.  Would of loved to see what he could of done writing wise in the classic era

Glad you have discovered it! We're probably about 2 months away from season 8 now. I've been watching Capaldi on The Musketeers and he is quite dazzling (even as a villain).

I really liked Amy and Rory, personally. I like Clara too, but she hasn't really had much of a chance to be a real person, hopefully there will be lot to know about her in the future other than what she did in the time line.

If you want to get into the original series, Hulu probably has the best selection in one place, though it is still not anywhere near complete. I had to fill in the blanks with Dailymotion and stuff.

We are here just waiting. My girl isn't thrilled with Capaldi, but at least she likes his other stuff.
Me, being middle aged and attracted to "older men" just adds to the anticipation!
Loved all of the last 3 regenerations. Tom Baker was "my first" Doctor.
I just love the whole thing, time travel, regeneration and varied enemies and companions. I'm getting a bit weary of Moffat at this time. Let's just wait and see.

There is a nice interview with Capaldi in The Sunday Times. http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/Magazine/article1435733.ece?shareToken=b613ab08469db8495ce06f369cc90f32

The article does get a little annoying with feeling the need to point out Capaldi's age far too often, but it's clear that Capaldi is quite the Doctor Who fan, and a very lovely one at that.
