pronouns are just pronouns. my daughter only used he, him and her(s) until she was around 7-8 years old, and finally started realizing that gender matters in norwegian. i'm much more concerned about other nouns like daughter, girl, female this and that, etc. those don't always fit too well, and sometimes make me cringe.
my daughter also prefers being called by her female name and female pronouns, even when she's a boy. is what she told me.
but then again, she doesn't hear me use gendered pronouns about her all too often.
