This also works the other way - when there are more trans people, the options will get better because the market will be larger, and surgeons will have an incentive to expand and improve techniques and capabilities. The number of trans people seems to already be increasing exponentially as people are realizing they can transition.

This so much ^

Even now, I'm starting to see improvements in bottom surgery than when I first started researching a little over two years ago (Dr. Cranes scrotum creation comes to mind).   It was one of my biggest fears that the surgeries would never improve because it didn't see like many guys were getting them done.  I also feel that with more exposure to ftm trans identities and guys coming out that the market for GRS will also expand.  That's one of the things that keeps me going.

I would only consider it if they could grow me a proper dick from stem cells and it wouldn't cost a fortune.

I'm a bit on the fence about it. I figure since I hate what I have down there enough as it is, phallo in any shape or form could only be an improvement, but I wanna see what T does to me first before I make any major plans.

I personally am just leaning toward a Meta and going as natural as possible.I was pro phallo but after all the research i have done and seeing what i have *and maybe i just seen the bad images* i think with alot of training down there, maybe even some enlargement, the meta is the best for me.This might change in the future as doctors get better at over all construction of the phallo *what i have seen are just huge lumps of skin*

I ain't gonna lie y'all, but I have my concerns with much of the surgery. I'm uncomfortable with the urethral lengthening. Since I want to still have a penis, but don't want to do urethral lengthening, I want to see about keeping my vagina (for sexual function as well) and getting a phallo just for the visual confirmation of my masulinity and sexual function.

I understand that any surgery looks bad until the swelling goes down, the incision heals, and so on, but where do we find photos of well-healed bottom surgery results?

There are yahoo groups for those seriously considering bottom surgery: ftmphalloplastyinfo and ftmmetoidioplasty.  Then there's a group for general surgery info: ftmsurgeryinfo.  And one for those who are torn between phallo and meta: thedecidingline.

Does anyone have any info on this? I've seen it several places that surgeons refuse to just do phallo and keep a vagina

My bottom dysphoria isn't frequent/severe enough for me to have surgery, especially such a complex one. Honestly, I don't know if I'll even have top surgery. Not because my chest dysphoria isn't bad, but because surgery terrifies me, even if it's minor. It wouldn't be worth putting my body through a presumably-painful and stressful process when I can cope OK with what's there.

It's an absolute no. The dysphoria down there isn't substantial, wouldn't be able handle such scars on my arms and the money needed for such an operation can be better used for something else.

If phalloplasty were significantly improved and didn't require transplanting a skin graft from my arm or leg, I would be more likely to take it into consideration. I haven't really thought that much about bottom surgery, to be honest, but I'm leaning more towards a meta if anything because it seems less invasive and recovery doesn't seem nearly as strenuous, nor does it take as many steps as phallo does. But again, probably something I won't even have for ten years, if not more, so it's not really something on my mind.

This is my answer at the moment (knowing that I may change my mind at any point down the road and that is okay!):

I am not considering any bottom surgeries other than a possible oopho.  For me, it is only the parts people see and read female that cause my dysphoria.  I will be getting top surgery at the end of this year, and I am on T.  Those are what I, personally, need for my transition to feel "complete."  I just want to walk through society (the public parts!) and be read as male.  Anyone who is close enough emotionally to see me without pants will be in the loop about the incongruities in my body, so I don't plan to change anything visible downstairs.

But just one year ago, I wasn't considering T... so, opinions and needs change!  If I wake up tomorrow and start considering bottom surgeries, that is okay!

I've seen very sexy, masculine *beautiful* phallo results. After the final stage & full healing they can certainly look darn good.
(I've also seen a couple "adult" clips of guys with phallos "in action." Now i'm not in their shoes but from my POV they certainly looked like they were having a good time.)

Myself, i'm somewhat in-between genders. Don't plan to lose the bra-fillers or the pussy. I would consider a phallo except for two reasons:
1 to my knowledge, it's difficult/improbable that genderqueer persons would "pass the test" required by the standards of care to receive access to lower surgery (gatekeeping against nonbinary folks, essentially)
2 big ol' scar somewhere on my body. I like my body contours .... and also am extensively tattooed. So which tattoo would i want removed from one part of my body, to then appear on another (new) part of my body? It's just a weird choice to consider. ("Would this flower, flame, or skull look good on my dick? Cause there aint a lot of un-inked real estate...!")

For me, anything would be better than the situation I have naturally. I have some good growth from years on T, so would likely go the metaoidioplasty route with urethral lengthening to preserve sensation. Cost is definitely a factor in my decision as well!

I've been on the fence about bottom surgery for a while now. I recently flew to America and the public bathroom situation at airlines drove me crazy. A few times, I would walk into a stall and just stand there, flush the toilet and walk out without peeing, because someone else would walk in after me and I'd get too anxious. Ever since then, bottom surgery has been a bigger deal, but it's a loooong process that I'd have to go overseas to get.

If it was fully functioning and free penis sure. But that's not gonna happen in my life time I assume. So i'm down with having a vagina, its a pretty rad thing anyways  ;)

At first I wanted the phalloplasty but now I am leaning more towards the meta only.

I have a lot of stretched veins on my body and it seems that I am getting more scars so that could be not aesthetically pleasing as the donor site.

Also sensation is very important to me.  Unless there are techniques now that can replicate spongey tissue from the donor site and will give me erogenous sensation instead of tactile sensation then I don't see myself getting the phalloplasty.  If the medical advances were there for that to happen then I would gladly get the phalloplasty and go through all of those stages and expensive procedures even with a scared and broken veined penis.  Otherwise to me personally chances are it won't be worth it.

My plan is to go for a metoidioplasty with the urethral lengthening/hook up with a scrotoplasty and vaginectomy.  Bonus points of they can give me an uncut look.  It may be on the small side but I'll pump and lose weight so it will look bigger.

I know that I need bottom surgery.  I got too much dysphoria downstairs to keep what I have.

I'm still hoping for future medical advances though.

I have changed my mind since I posted this.  Now, I plan on having a phalloplasty in the future, if I can get my weight down.  I feel that I need something larger than a meta to feel *whole*.  I probably have at least 10 years before I would be able to have this procedure done, so hopefully there will be advancements for phalloplasties in the future, even if they are small ones.

None of the options were me haha. I want phallo with the front hole to still be there. Testicles are just so cool to me though and I really want them. Like I feel like after surgery I'll just be in shock that I have them! I'm getting more and more ok with part of my arm being grafted for it and I'm saving up now for the future even though I'm poor. I've got a donations bucket and all my spare money goes for transitioning.

I don't care much about size other than I want  it to be pretty normal tbh. Many other black guys may feel dysphoric about size, but I'm more dysphoric about it just not being there. Seeing guys with 6inches makes me feel so great for them and it looks so natural to me. It's weird because I'm bisexual and have always sort of toed the line of gender nonconformity anyway so it's going to be more for my own happiness and not a partner. There's another person on here who I felt immediately like I connected with who is gnc I believe and I felt that that's what I wanted. To be femme but get rid of the 1st and 2ndary features. I really want to masturbate with a neophallus and it's been a heavy thought on my mind that I want my dick to be that size.

I wanted meta before and saw some great ones, but the longer I'm on T and see my body changing, the more I feel like I want phallo. I might to to Europe to do it honestly. I'm still confused about whether I should go for having balls or not because I know many surgeons will want to close the hole up if you want to get balls.  I was going to go for Marcy Bowers and ring meta because she is the most understanding doc, but her price is on the edge of phallo prices! Might as well get phallo! I do wonder if you can get everything done in one stage though but I'm not sure how to research that.

It's interesting you say this! I've gained muscle and lost weight, but I think I might need a mons reduction because it gives me dysphoria....Good luck on getting phallo. You can save up, get a meta and it will be less work for the future while relieving that dysphoria

I'm pretty happy with the current state of my genitals, more so than I was before transitioning (oddly enough). My dysphoria there has lessened, and now I really appreciate having that extra hole :icon_redface: haha. Sometimes I do have genital dysphoria, but it's not often. If I did ever get surgery, I would prefer a meta though.
