I'm genderqueer but I have somewhat masculine features. I've also only understood my identity for about six months so I've spent a majority of my life feeling like I needed to present as male and forcing myself to feel comfortable that way. Now that I'm exploring how to look and feel less male/more androgynous, I feel trapped. It seems like there are more resources and more support for AFAB people wanting to present as andro but all I seem to be able to find for AMAB people is how to present as feminine, which isn't really my goal.

I've started growing my hair and shaving/epilating/grooming my body hair, both of which have helped, but I feel like I've hit a wall. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Hi VQ. Welcome to Susan's.  :icon_wave:

Here are some links to site policies and other helpful information:

As far as AMAB presenting androgynously, it's really hard. People gender people as male "by default". I.e. the only way to be gendered anything but male is to have an absence of things that identify you as male.

If you don't mind them seeing you as a genderqueer male, there's a lot you can do. You can really wear any combination of male and female dress, or stick to dress that's not uniquely male or female.

In the end, I transitioned to live as a female. I decided there was no presentation that would accurately express my gender.

Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

some people try to improve skin with cleanser, moisturizer, and lotions.

some people try to be fit, doing plenty of cardio, dance, or aerobic exercise for fun or expression.

some people try out unisex or colorful clothing.

Wow, you're right! There is a bit of an emphasis on teaching afabs how to look more androgynous. I once noticed that a trans shop was selling "gender-neutral" shirts that were basically men's button up shirts and I was like, that's not gender-neutral if you're amab :/

My husband has been wearing makeup every day. He wears makeup made for men; much of it comes from South Korea because that's a normal thing over there. Two of the brands he likes are called Menaji and Etude House (the second is Korean, I believe.) I also bought him a nice matte eyeshadow set from Urban Decay. Most makeup made for women is shimmery or sparkly, so you have to find matte products if you don't want to look overly feminine.

There's tons more I could say if you're interested. Just let me know and I'll ask hubs :P

What are you into fashion-wise? Do you like skirts? Are there any specific styles you like? I could tell you about some dark androgynous styles, but I'm a weirdo goth so I don't know if you want that. You could also look at older neo-romantic celebrities like David Bowie and Adam Ant for inspiration.

Just a little faerie punk floating through this strange world of humans.
