Jannicke,

I analyzed your before and after very carefully and i have nothing to say but what a successful surgery. You now look 100% female and about 20 years younger. I am so happy for you :)

Dear possessed,

Thank you very much for saying that :-)

Allthough I noticed the difference in Buenos Aires after the removal of the nose-cast, it was not before I returned home and had the pictures you've seen taken by a friend of mine, that I truly acknowledged how great the difference and improvement was.
For the first time in my life I felt liberated, being able to live the life as the female I truly am. I will never forget what Dr Di Maggio and his team did to my face.

Best of luck with your endeavours, possessed.

I seriously doubt that Dr. Simon has performed more than 800 FFS already. Dr. Ousterhout performed 950 FFS from 1982, when he "invented" FFS, to 2009, when he published his book. This is 950 FFS in a period of 27 years.
Dr. Simon first approached FFS in 2007 and according to his website, he has performed about 300 FFS: http://facialteam.es/cff-equipo-quirurgico/dr-daniel-simon-es/ which is still more experience than Dr. Rossi, that's out of discussion, but very far from 800 surgeries.

You raise an interesting issue.  I think the numbers and how they get tossed around in messages can be very confusing.

Doing  300 or 650 FFS "procedures", which is actually what appears to be reported on their web site - - could mean that they have worked on as  few as 50 to maybe 150 patients.  And those are procedures that are divided among the two of them.   It appears they count each portion of the surgery as a different "procedure".   For example,  if you look at Dr. O's book - -  he reports doing over 5,000 FFS "procedures" from 1982 to 2009.  That is about 10 or more times  as many procedures as any other claim for "procedures" from other surgeons.  But read closer, only about 20% of that number (about 1000 patients) had  forehead remodeling. But many of those patients had multiple "procedures" - -  forehead, jaw, eyes, lip, nose.... etc.   That is how you get a large number of "procedures" - -  but that is not "surgeries" or patients.

In 1982, Dr. O was already highly experienced and thoroughly trained in plastic, craniofacial and jaw surgery - -  but he is pretty candid in his book that he had to teach himself and learn how to do a lot of the difficult FFS stuff, from scratch.  Reading between the lines, it took him a while to consistently get the types of optimal results that are now the "gold standard" and fairly routine for him.   Apparently, from the history in the book, early on he was frustrated enough that he stopped and took the time to go over to the dental school and did an exhaustive  study of the Male/Female skull differences in structural features - - which  then allowed him to go back to surgery and vastly improve the results he obtained from the procedures and how he previously did those.  There had to be a  pretty steep learning curve back in the 1980s  - -  for even someone with Dr. Ousterhout's training and experience.

If a surgeon were already very well trained in plastic surgery and in craniofacial and jaw surgeries - -  and then had someone like Dr. O to work with 10 and 12 hours a day in the operating room for several months  and directly transfer all of that early learning curve into a few months of surgeries - - then that same skill set and capability gets  compressed into a relatively short period of time and the patients would get the consistent benefit of all that experience.

But without that personal hands-on training - -  everyone else is still having to work  their way up that 1980's learning curve.

Probably worth while to keep the "numbers" in the right perspective.  Those "procedure numbers" have the potential to only be marketing tools and seriously misleading.

A bit of an update..
I'm now 19 days past surgery and back at work again(second day). Feels just fine so far. Still some swelling over the nose at the forehead(mostly on my right side), but nothing that bothers me. Sweeling around the eyes are coming down nicely(no funny colours). Nose feels good, but still some loss of sensation at the surface on my left side. Top of my heed is still numb, but that wont fade away before some months.
There will be some new photos next week.

All the best,

Jannicke

25 days after surgery and improving. Swelling is down overall as you all can see from the photos which was taken today. Especially the eyes have improved a lot.
Beginning to get back some energy as well. My second week of work now so that's good.

Hi I had FFS with Dr DiMaggio in 2012.. I'm thankful to him almost every day. I'm a huge supporter of his work and his M.O.  I consulted with every FFS Dr before deciding on him.
I'm actually going to make a post to let people know he's visiting NYC and Miami for SCC this Sept. Ill be posting in this forum.
Ill actually be at his NYC consults to support the community and be available for questions and people can see a live patient :)
im also trying to update my profile here.

If I can help you out regarding Dr D please let me know.

Improving all the time. It's now 27 days since surgery. Top of the head is still numb and will be so for some time. Swelling at the forehead is coming down and now consentrates on the lower forehead. Beginning to get some sensation back on the left side of the nose. Eyes are less swollen as clearly indicated by the pictures-huge change in just 13 days!
Some scar-tissue a bit above my addams-apple which I'm massaging and putting cream on regularly in order to reduce it. Energy is coming back more and more.

You cand find some new photos here:

I'm getting more and more pleased with my new facial expression  :D

The difference is huge. You have got the maximum that one can get with FFS. Very good choice of doctor. Have you seen any first hand Jaw/ Chin results from DR. MDM?

Hi possessed,

No first-hand, but I know he has done quite a lot. My suggestion is that you ask Dr Di Maggio for references. I know he'll be more than happy to give them to you.

Best of luck with your search.

39 days since surgery now..
Pretty numb still at the top of head as expected. Mostly all of the scab has come off from the incisison at the forehead, but a bit is left at the front. Svelling is down more at the forehead, but still some left at the lower part ower both eyes and the nose. Both eyes do still have some svelling and I still experience some liquid appearing from the eyes during my sleep at night.
Almost all of the sensation is back at the left part of the nose. I still have the lump over my addams-apple which is due to the internal scar-prosess after the thyorid cartilage reduction. Anyway, I use some cream regularly and massage it a bit and the lump is decreasing in size.
In general I feel fine, but experience some fatigue now and then. Been working for 3,5 weeks now. I've been walking daily since I got back from Buenos Aires, but I wanted to wait a bit before resuming running. I started to run again this week and felt fine-just a bit out of shape  :) Most interesting experience is actually having to deal with employes and business-associates who clearly see the difference, but are having some difficulties with dealing with it. Interesting experience, and clearly there is a positive difference from my previous facial apperance when I'm encountering people I haven't met before. Nice to reap the benefits from such an ordeal. ;)

I am so happy for you sister. Your surgery is a major success, and it is a life changing experience indeed. I have never experienced fatigue after anesthesia but I always had to deal with depression even though normally I don't suffer from that. Anyway the surgery and the anesthesia are major shock to the body so take your time to fully recover. It will happen in no time :D

Thank you so much for posting your experiences with MDM, I'm scheduled for Nov. 26 and your posts have calmed me down (at least for the time being). I've never had surgery, I don't really know my own pain threshold so I've been obsessing on whether or not I need to bring my own painkillers in case it gets unbearable, but after reading that you didn't use anything but ibuprofen I'm feeling a bit less stressed about it :)

I'm glad to hear that my tread here has been helpfull to you. By the way, I didn't use any painkiller at all. The best of luck with your surgery. Dr Di Maggio and his team are truly skilled, professional and caring.

After just having jaw and chin surgery; IMHO, unless your surgeon is not very aggressive, pain medicine is an absolute necessity.
