Help please ...  :)

I know this has been covered somewhere before, but can anyone tell me the cheapest but still safe way to send my Euros deposit to Facial Team.

I don't want my money to land up in Nigeria ... LOL  ::)

Bit like the joke "Breakfast in London - Lunch in Madrid - Luggage in Bombay" !!!

I bank with Nationwide and in May I sent money to FT ( 100 Euros =  around £73 ) and the SWIFT fee cost me £20.00

Thanks in advance.

No worries everyone.

Deposit sent by SWIFT via Nationwide ...  :)

£20.00 charge is pretty good really.

Just trying to save money, that's all.

I don't know if it'll work for your purpose specifically, but I highly recommend XE Trade (xe.com) as a way to transfer money internationally. I've only ever used it to move money between my own bank accounts, but it was cheap, easy, and above all LEGITIMATE.

Thanks for all your advice ...  :)

Just checked the exchange rate Nationwide charged me and they made an additional £34.00 (2.5%) plus the £20 SWIFT Fee.

So when I send the balance of the surgery cost to FT, I will have to do some more research on this.

The EURO to POUND rate is going up and down like a wild thing at present, so I need to keep an eye on things.

PS. Just heard from FT that my deposit arrived today, 24 hours which is good.

Use Transferwise.co.uk

Their exchange rate is way closer to the real thing than any bank and the fees are way less. It saved me around £700 Vs my bank when I transferred money to the Facial Team. My bank's limit was £10,000 a day from my account, so I split the remaining amount (after deposit) into 3 payments over 3 days.

I also know of four other people who have used it in the UK to pay for their FFS in Belgium, Spain and the USA.

Hi Charlotte,

Many thanks for your answer ...  :)

Yes Transferwise was the name I was trying to remember.

Bit late for the 2000 Euro deposit but not too late to pay the balance in March.

Thanks again.

Funnily enough I worked out what it would have cost me to send the 2000 Euro deposit the other day at the rate that Nationwide charged me which was 1.389 and Transferwise was virtually the same BUT Nationwide charged me an extra £20 for the privilege.

Interesting , Nationwide's rates are competitive.

But I will see what I save using https://transferwise.com/ next March

Looking at Nationwide's exchange rate on - http://www.nationwide.co.uk/support/service/foreign-exchange-rates it seems that they have the Euro at 1.3598 today, whereas Transferwise have it at 1.3827.

So on an example €20,000 payment it would cost £14,728.05 (including £20 transaction fee) with Nationwide and £14,536.77 (including £72.32 fee for Transferwise). So that's a £191.28 saving on a €20k payment - every little helps!

However Nationwide is way more competitive in their exchange rate then say HSBC, who have their rate at 1.3236 today. Against HSBC on the example €20k payment you save £572.54 + any transaction fee on top of that.

Hi Charlotte,

Thanks for getting this information together.

I do find Nationwide a good organisation to deal with.

That's a shocker about HSBC.

Just goes to show in life you need to shop around for the best deal.

Take care

WARNING

I will be using Transferwise as they appear to be the cheapest way to send money BUT do not use the link I posted below on Dec 3rd to contact them because your ID and Susan's Place ID plus this thread will fall into their hands.

I will be complaining to them and get this information removed from their records.

How did they find out, simple.

I went onto their LIVE Chat section and as they did not answer soon enough, I called their support team about opening an account and when they sent me a reply by e-mail, this information was contained and disclosed.

I have just called Transferwise and given their Managing Director or other senior colleague exactly one hour to call me otherwise I will be taking the matter further.

Susan's Place being an open forum is irrelevant because even if it was a private forum, privileged and private information could have fallen into a third party's hands.

BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU.

Just had a phone call from Transferwise which they will be confirming by e-mail that only myself can view the information on the links that were attached to their earlier e-mail reply.

I hope that this is true.

But I still suggest that any member on here goes direct to their website.

Here we go - their e-mail just now: ... Phew ...  :)

I am a happy bunny again and must say their service is very good.

But I am glad I am checked this out as our privacy is so important.

Hi Paula,

Nice to speak with you again over the phone!

Apologies for the scare here. I wish to assure you that each link is private to each individuals log-in details.

I'll show you an example here!

Here I am logged into my private account, from which I have copy and pasted my browser link:

If you click on this link, however, you will not be able to view my personal account details. Only your own account details if you be logged into your own private account.

Never-the-less, I have removed the chat record as per requested.

Even more impressed with their support.

Now I know exactly what to do ....  8)

My friend in the States is sending me some money for something unrelated to anything on here and when I told her about TransferWise and how much cheaper it is to send money via them rather than the traditional route using Banks, she has now opened an account with them.

So here's how she is going to send me the money and also how I am going to send the balance of my surgery costs to Facial Team.

Hi Paula,

Sorry for the delay in replying, I have been quite snowed under today!

I break this information down below:

1) Your friend in the US sending to you:

To initiate the payment on their TransferWise profile:
– they will create a payment order from USD to GBP
– they will enter your UK bank account details (as recipient at Step 3)

To pay for the payment:
– they will make a bank transfer from their USD account to our USD account (our CFSB bank account details will be displayed to them at Step 5)
– so they will send us USD and we will pay that out to you in GBP

2) You sending to Spain:

To initiate the payment on your TransferWise profile:
– you will create a payment order from GBP to EUR
– you will enter your recipient's EUR account details (as recipient at Step 3)

To pay for the payment:
– you will make a bank transfer from your GBP account to our GBP account (our Barclays bank account details will be displayed to you at Step 5)
– so you will send us GBP and we will pay it out in EUR to your recipient's account

I hope this information is clear and once again sorry for the delay in replying!

Kind regards,

TransferWise Support

Hi Paula,

Lovely speaking to you again!

Here is the information as discussed:

When your friend is sending from the US to your UK account, they will have to enter your full name and then will have the option to enter either your:

1) IBAN number, or
2) UK Sort Code and Account Number

When you are sending to the EUR Spanish account, you will need to enter:

– the full name of your recipient
– your recipient's IBAN number

In both cases, when making the bank transfer to us, be sure not to forget to enter your unique membership number as the reference (in your case, your number is P2******.

Your friend will be able to find this number on the main page of their TransferWise profile.

This is what we use to recognise the deposit as your own and send the money out as quickly as possible!

If you have any questions, just let me know!

Kind regards,

TransferWise Support

This is how TransferWise works:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sponsored/finance/money-transfers/11435428/how-does-transferwise-work.html

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sponsored/finance/money-transfers/

Interesting how they began.

See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TransferWise

When I called my bank to get my IBAN number, I was telling the lady about TransferWise and she had never heard of them. Tonight she is going to look them up as she feels she would be able to use them and save herself some fees. I hope her bosses don't find out .. LOL  .. ;D

Just out of interest, I checked PayPal.

As an example the fees for sending say £1500.00 to Spain were the same as TransferWise but the receiver (Facial Team) would have to pay £51.20 fees plus £6 cross border fee = £57.20 which is crazy.

If I sent the money today the PayPal rate of exchange was the same as TransferWise but all I would have to pay TransferWise to send the money to FT would be only £7.46.
