Many years ago a family member said I had a good aptitude for software development and mentored me. Did not take long to find out he was right. During my learning stages I used various online resources and thought to myself, thank goodness for those who share their knowledge online.
So an effort to give back once competent I began writing articles for one developer magazine dedicated to a programming language and for a year make a decent living from this. Then came a realization that there are those who could not afford to purchase these types of magazines or learned better from sample code.
So around 2003 I joined a non-profit organization and wrote many tutorials with downloadable samples. Then in 2008 I began writing tutorials for Microsoft and Microsoft noticed and awarded me with their MVP award (Most Valuable Professional). There are only 4,000 globally and each year Microsoft re-evaluates them, this is my second year. Today there has been just under 100,000 downloads with four star reviews.
At my current employment for the past twenty years I am a senior developer and mentor other developers in the company.
Anyways seems my purpose is to teaching others how to write software. I would have never in my dreams considered this to had been a career path as for the first part of my life I taught self-defense and did again between 2000 and 2013.
