Do I need jaw surgery?

Got a quote for my FFS from Di Maggio but the procedures the surgeon advised/suggested also included jaw and chin reconstruction. This was not something I initially requested. Indeed, when I spoke to Facial Team they said the jaw surgery seemed unnecessary and more an optional aesthetic procedure rather than something feminising; e.g. do it if it makes you feel better but if you want to look feminine it's not essential. They advised I get basic FFS and then see how you feel. I'm wondering how much money I could save by not getting this procedure, considering that I never really felt like I needed it to begin with.

For what it's worth, the surgeon mainly advised jaw/chin reconstruction not because my jaw is masculine but because after FFS on the rest of my face it might look more masculine in comparison.

Any thoughts?

I had FFS done in January 2016 which involved brow reduction, rhinoplasty to narrow and tilt my nose, and the Adams apple shave. These three procedures are very commonly done together.
Some people go for more than this all at once and some do more after the first three.
I have decided after a year that I want a jaw recontouring  and lip lift even though my surgeon is saying something similar.
I believe that several small adjustments can have and overall impact and never expected any single procedure to make a huge difference.

Are you saying that you expect jaw surgery to make a huge difference?

Also what did you think about your face after the first surgery? What made jaw surgery feel necessary?

Your jaw looks narrow.. anything taken off of it may look weird. Perhaps just a bit of chin work but even that I'm not sure you need. Maybe something subtle.

Cheers Ellement. It's a hard one to decide. I don't know, I feel like my chin is quite long and I do wonder if it will stand out more after the rest of my face has been feminised. I know my jaw isn't too wide but would it look more feminine if it were tapered in to a point to give that "V" heart-shaped face?

Only little work on the chin
But not very necessary

I think it would be a mistake. You can achieve that just by doing chin work..I don't think you should touch your jaw. That's my opinion. [emoji4]

I was happy with the results from the first surgery, they did what I expected.
After a few months I could see that there was more to be done.
I analized pictures of my face and decided there was an issue with the contour of my jaw and chin.
I felt that the back of the jaw was too square and could be rounded off.
Half way between the back and the chin I feel it bulges there and gives too much of a squared look.
The chin is not to bad in terms of squareness but if it were rounded and reduced it would look better I think.
The end result should be a softer more gentle and rounded curve with the end points being the back of the jaw and higher up towards the ear.
That is the best way I can describe it.
I cant post pictures yet and I cant see yours to comment on your situation.
Lots of people, myself included get told that they don't need much taken away and that is fine.
But take it from me as a person who is a 3D artist, small changes matter and several small changes can make a big difference in total.
I don't expect a dramatic change from jaw recontouring just a noticeable one.
People make micro expressions all the time that can communicate a lot to a viewer, so can micro changes to the face with FFS.
FFS is about softening the features, any taking down of a hard point or edge in the bones will do this.

okay, saw your picture and it is hard to say just from the front view.
Probably you would want some reduction.
You have a rather nice soft curve already.
It may be that your chin will look too bulky after the other FFS.

Your jaw doesn't look square from that angle, so I agree that chin work would be the best option if you decide on surgery. I had type 3 forehead work and rhinoplasty done at the same time, and then I  had jaw and chin done together several years later by a different surgeon, and the recovery from jaw surgery was very lengthy and painful with a lot of swelling, and made recovery from forehead and nose surgery feel like a walk in the park!  So, unless it is absolutely necessary it would be best to avoid jaw work. Best wishes 😊

I think I agree with Dr. Di Maggio on this, your chin seems large to me in this photo. Maybe the first inch or so of the jaw that is past the chin should be tapered along for a smoother flow of the outline

Cheers for the advice! I agree, my jaw isn't so square. I think I worry more that my jaw is too BIG. Perhaps it makes my overall face look too large? As for pain I have no concerns, I cannot afford multiple surgeries so I'd rather get it all done at once. The shape seems relatively fine to me but I wonder if I shortened the chin without changing the jaw it would look strange perhaps?

I personally think that every bit helps.  If you can afford it, go for it.
What you look forward to has already come, but you do not recognize it.

I think your chin needs more work. While your jaw isn't wide right now chin reduction will shorten your face and may make ur existing jaw look wider. Better to include jaw too.

In my opinion, your jaw does not look wide or masculine at all.
