Never been there, but I hear it's nice. I've read there are a lot of artists there. Ruidoso-Roswell-las Cruces, the billy the kid byway. I live in AZ. If I could rent out my place, I'd move to hell. It gets that hot. :) obviously I'm not a native.

It's true that it's only 5 months of the year, but it seems longer than that.

I lived on Long Island for 40 years and then Iowa for 9 years. Nothing there prepared me for this. At least it's not humid though.

For whatever reason, my body thermostat hasn't adjusted. When it's in the 30's in the AM in January, I'll go outside in shorts and a tee shirt. I don't miss the ice and snow, but when it's 115, I say the hell with it.

I know transition seems insurmountable. I think a lot of us feel this way. I have often wished I could just disappear as the person I was before and simply reappear somewhere else post transition. I'm new. I fought my desire for transition for many years, because of the fear. Still coming out at work and to family feels like a mountain I wont be able to survive climbing. But every journey starts with a single step. cliché I know, but they get to be clichés for a reason.

I haven't been to Ruidoso, but I'm from Colorado and know ski and resort towns like that. They are usually pretty tolerant places, so would be a better place to be trans than, say, El Paso.

That said, I understand that for you, earning good money depends in part on a male waiter persona that you've developed. Can you study other successful wait staff and develop something different that would be more compatible with your self image? Even if only to go androgenous?

If so, then why not?

Maybe even when I wasn't making good money I typically brought home more than I make now at my hourly job, but I am still in the closet no one knows.
