Sarah leah

I told my entire Social work team at work (30 women and two guys) about a week ago that I was going to transition very slowly over the next twelve months but not my dressing style, as I see no reason to do so yet. But in time it will be tweaked to accommodate changes to my body.

Today the last person in the department/area I work with returned from her annual leave. She is the one I was most concerned with as she is an old school bible basher with extremely outdated ways of thinking about things. I watched her go into her office and hit play on a video I made for everyone, then I fled to see a client.

Before I left for the day she sent me the following in an email.

"Thank you for sharing this - it took guts and I respect that.

You are loved by this team and no one will treat you any differently you are a part of our little family now. But should ANYONE give you concern I assure you we are here beside you and it will be dealt with.

By the way I think you need to work on your eyebrows. I can recommend a very nice girl in town. I left you a gift too in the top drawer"

:) I am so relieved she was on board. Also the item was $20 dollars with a sticky note that read, "If you are not ready to dress differently then at least take this and when you feel it is time gets your ears pierced on me. It is a small gift but one you deserve."

A straight line may be the shortest distance between two points, but it is by no means the most interesting

My mother-in-law told me that she is really trying to remember to call me Jennifer. She said that she had known me for so long by my male name, that it was just a bit difficult to remember. Which is to be expected in my opinion. when you have known someone for almost 13 years under one identity, it can obviously be difficult to rewire everything. But at least she's trying!

Also, I wanted to post this before but I'm constantly forgetting to. I loaned her a book that could probably help a lot of people. Whether you read it for your own purposes or to loan to someone to help them understand is up to you.

Transsexuals: Candid Answers To Private Questions by Gerald Ramsey PhD.

I may have the exact title a bit wrong, but it should be easy to find. Amazon it or google it.

The last two days have been pretty rough due to a family crisis.  So today in my session with my therapist, first she gave me some good ideas for how I can try to help solve that crisis, but then she also gave me an assignment.  She told me to go out and focus on the good things I could find for the rest of the day.  So I did.

Today is the first really good weather day we've had this season, 80+ degrees and sunny.  So on good thing I noticed that helped me feel better is just the joy of driving with the windows open and letting the wind blow through your hair.  Now unfortunately "my hair" is still a wig when out as Alyssa, but it was still somehow enjoyable just the same.

The second thing I focused on was again enjoying the weather.  This time it was sitting in the little gazebo next to the river that runs past my therapist's office. I sat for a little while just enjoying the sound of the nearby waterfall and looking at how green everything is now and it really lifted my spirits.  So I decided to take a few pics.

80 degrees is a real head sweater with a wig on. Glad you got to enjoy yourself even for a short while. I really admire your courage and your decision to seek a therapist. Makes all the difference in the world doesn't it.

I went to the doctor today for a knee injury. They wanted to take an X-ray to make sure nothing severe was wrong. The first thing the tech asked me was, "Is there any chance you are pregnant?"

Wednesday

My cutie pie Cleopatra just went through a surgical intervention (thankfully it was a minor issue not involving any risk) and is already recovering at home really well!

Isn't her one of the most gorgeous kitties you had ever seen? <3

Picked up my print of Christina's World from the framers. I wish that I didn't have so much problems posting pictures, I would love to show everyone. I have had my prints and paintings moved around to give an opening for months, just have been looking for the right combination of matting and frame. It's perfect and I can't stop smiling. 😊

Bending the subject a little... Four different female friends (all know my history) asked where I shop for clothes because "I always look nice". That's what happens when you buy a complete wardrobe from scratch.

But the best complement was the first person I came out to at work (I'm full time now) stopped mid conversation leaned in closer for a better look and said "nice job on the make up.  It looks natural and compliments your features well." Since she's one of the higher maintenance friends I have, it was an awesome compliment.

The past week has been awesome.
