Since I changes my LinkedIn profile I have started getting invites for meet ups for Women in Technology (or other interesting areas) which are usually a combination of a tech speaker and networking.

Some of them have really interesting topics and I could certainly learn a lot from the technical discussions.

Has anyone (MTF) been to one of these?

I talked to one of my girlfriends (cis) and she encouraged me to go but somehow it still feels a bit like cheating. I have benefitted for 25 years of my professional live from the "male privilege" and I am far away from being able to completely hide my heritage, so the likelyhood to be called out is pretty high. Somehow I don't want to make other women uncomfortable since these meetings are intended to foster workplace equality...

I've talked with of trans women and they have met their best friends at these.  I plan on going myself when passable.  If I attend and look like a man in drag, then they would not be welcoming OR at ease...
you know how far the universe extends outward? i think i go inside just as deep.

10/11/18 - out to the whole world.  100% friends and family support.
11/6/17 - came out to sister, best day of my life
9/5/17 - formal diagnosis and stopping DIY in favor if prescribed HRT
6/18/17 - decided to stop fighting the trans beast, back on DIY.
Too many ups and downs, DIY, purges of self inbetween dates.
Age 10 - suppression and denial began
Age 8 - knew I was different

I am a student who's about to enter the tech industry. I am afraid transitioning would make it more difficult to obtain a full-time job offer through previous internships after graduation. Is it a complicated process to change the gender in the Linkedin profile? Do you think the change has brought up additional questions from HRs? Do you think it would be better to create a new profile entirely? Thanks!

For me I have not noticed any difference. Changing the Gender and Name was easy, I went not my profile and could change it right there.

I have to admit while I have applied for a few jobs (under my legal name), I have not been invited to an interview but I have also not pursuing it aggressively. I am usually in mid level positions and some of the hiring works differently. I am working with a headhunter and he is aware of my transition. He had one position for me and it would have not been a problem, unfortunately the company re-structured before it could happen. I also work in a generally accepting industry (media).

I am sure some of contacts did stumble when they saw the changed profile. I did also change XING which is stronger in Europe and I have to admit I did get a bunch of really positive messages from that change.

Thanks so much for the info! I think I'll keep my Linkedin account and change the info when I'm ready.
