Dinner tonight started out as a use what's in the fridge and turned into a great meal. Sort of a Garlic Shrimp stir fry, with red bell pepper, some broccoli, and snow peas. No sake, so I cooked it in some chardonnay left over from my step mom's new years party, and added some lemon and just a touch of soy. Served with some sushi rice (I pretty much only use short grain rice with this sort of stuff) and topped with toasted sesame seeds. I started by searing the shrimp in sesame oil with a hearty dose of kosher salt and minced garlic, gave it a wonderful flavor, and even the "its going to be too salty" naysayers had to admit it was good. Parcooked the broc seperately at first in a steamer, then tossed it all in, added the lemon, soy, and wine and let it cook down a bit. Got impatient, so added corn starch which created a nice consistency to the sauce that coated everything perfectly. Completely un planned out and winged it, so I'm lucky it wasn't a disaster. (I know it is a simple recipe, but I have such a bad track record with unplanned meals.)
