Missing a dose or taking 2 doses in one day, dangerous?

Hello everyone! This morning I woke up late due to having sleep issues. I was awake when my alarm went off to take my meds. However, I do not even remember taking anything, I remember eating and then going to bed. I counted my pills and saw that I had 2 extra of everything. So I, in a panic, took my hormones. Now I am seriously afraid and wondering if I missed 2 days or double dosed today.. it's all confusing and it's got me worried.

My question is, is missing or doubling a dose ONE time going to be harmful? Will missing a dose cause significant loss in hormone levels? And am I going to be okay if it so happens I did accidentally take it twice today?

I just wanna make sure I didn't do anything horrible, I've been freaking out that all my changes are going to go away, which I know won't happen, but it never hurts to make sure.

Sorry if I sound rather silly, just trying to be careful!

My bad Danielle, I removed the dosages out of my post.

As far everything else, I sent a message to my doctor online since it's late, so I shall wait and see. Just figured I would try and ask since the damage is already done and it's so late in the night. Thank you though. Sorry for the mistake!

Once in a blue moon I forget and it's no big deal. I don't double up I just make sure I don't forget the next day. I may be more relaxed about missing an oral dose as I have an oestrogen implant anyway (my doctor has me on pellets and oral deliveries of hormones).

I can't give official medical advice but I can talk about my experiences in the exact same position. This is not directly comparable as we most likely are on different dosages, have different bodies and could be on different anti-androgens. I also don't drink or smoke.

Doubling up on the anti-androgen would be the only thing I'd see myself being concerned about. Some of them have side effects (like Spironolactone on blood pressure). I would google your AA and find out how long it takes to reach peak blood plasma levels. I think with Spiro it's 1 to 2 hours, but it does have other elements to it. So if you are several hours after that time, that to me would say you should be okay.

Please remember these are just my opinions formed from anecdotal evidence and taking a pharmacology/toxicology class at university. You should still see your doctor if you feel any different.

P.S. I have doubled up on my dosage before after panicking when I missed it (back when I first started HRT). I survived.

Long term exposure to hormones is what makes the magic happen, a day or even a few weeks off HRT won't make any difference in the long run. And two words for you: Pill case.  :)

In my 40+ years working as a Pharmacist, I have been asked this question many times, especially with birth control pills.

The answer is:

If you are late on the same day, take your meds as soon as you remember.

If you forget until the next day, then just take your normal dose. For contraception, you will need an additional method to ensure that conception does not occur. Do not double up.

For HRT, it makes no difference at all. Just get back on schedule and do not double up your dose.
