How long is your hair?

Oh, I am so jealous of all your long hair pictures. Before I came out to myself, I had let my hair get down to my shoulders, or just past it. I was 18 or so and it was the time of hair-bands so the long hair fit in (1980's musical reference for those too young to have seen/heard it.) I loved it, I had amazingly thick hair. On more than one occasion, my barber jokingly said he should charge me double. Now my hair has thinned, my hairline receded, and I have a baldish spot on the back of my head. I wish he had charged me double, now I could ask for half price haircuts. It doesn't look good long. If I had known at 19 I would actually lose most of my hair, I would have left it long for a few more years. Would collagen or HRT help with the thin hair? lol! I even promised my hair that if it filled back in, I would only trim it for neatness, not cut it!

For those of you already on HRT. Did your hair grow any faster after starting and did the texture/thickness change?

I think my hair is prettier and softer now but I can't really say it is because of HRT because I'm also taking better care of it. And it definitely did not grow any faster.

My hair loss & subsequent regrowth had more to do with genetics and hormonal fluctuations than anything.  On or off HRT I didn't notice any change.. it does SEEM to grow thicker now.  Again could be placebo.  I did have a forehead reduction (ffs).. but looking at my sister, mother, cousins, nieces, etc.. they all had that high dreaded forehead issue.  I fixed mine :P  Ironically I suspect I look more feminine than most my direct female relatives at this point.  Not being mean to them, they look female still of course.

Not long enough :( also my hair is wavy so it takes more time for it to achieve some length. Right now it's like halfway down my neck.

Mine is wavy and curls a bit too so I know the feels  :icon_frown:

Same here re the jealousy! I recently found a photo of me from my mid-twenties (nearly half a lifetime ago) in which I had long hair. I remember everyone nagging me to get it cut and I finally gave in, but looking back now I'm convinced it was the best I ever looked. Surprisingly, comparing then and now, my hairline hasn't receded that much. I stopped having it cut last autumn and got to the point where I had to tuck it behind my ears. People started telling me to get it cut again but I was determined not to. Then, a couple of weeks ago, I was in a changing room in M&S when, probably accentuated by bright overhead lighting and the kaleidoscope of mirrors, I noticed quite a large thinning patch on the crown! I realised at that point that longer hair won't work for me at the moment and went and got it cut straightaway (though not as short as I usually had it). I'd never noticed such a prominent patch of loss before and am hoping that some may have been caused by shedding due to Finasteride (though probably not as I'd only been on it for about 5 weeks) and that some may grow back through continued use of Finasteride and Minoxidil. Otherwise it may have to be a transplant in the future and no long hair for me for a very long time. :(

I'm lazy about my hair, lol.
I've let it grow out multiple times in the past. I've also had it fairly short. Usually it goes like this: I cut it (fairly short) and then just let it grow and grow and grow... Until it looks really bad (and waaay too long!) and can't take it anymore! And then I'll cut it - but too short again! I'm now in the growing phase again  ;D. About over ear length now. It's long for a guy I guess, but to me it's pretty short still. I won't let it grow long this time though. I was planning to cut it again like a month back but didn't... I sort of like my hair when it goes through those different length phases - as I tend to always cut it too short initially after having it too long for too long, lol!

But I won't ever get that buzzcut!!! I like my hair best with that 'anime guy' length. That's why I'm terrified of getting bald on T... :P Noooooooo! I might need wigs too someday !

The bright side is that it will look really pretty once it's long enough! Or at least that's what my cis girlfriends tell me, they say that's the type of hair that every woman wants :D

Oh I already see signs in that. And I get compliments on it. I had one lady who would come into my work often and tell me (jokingly) how she wanted to bring scissors and take it from me cuz she really loved it. Idk though, I've always been weird to it. Never thought the style was that cool but I am starting to like it more. Saw some photos of it from 2 years ago and just thought oh my god, no wonder why I used to hate it 0.0

Yep we're definitely on the same boat! My friends also like mine and it also looked really ugly when it was short and pre HRT lol.

I love the idea of this thread, being a long time hair enthusiast (fanatic, maybe). My hair currently reaches 19 inches down from the center top of my head. I'm big into drawing fashion inspiration from celebrities. For several years I've pretty much kept my hair to the same length as actress Jennifer Aniston and we seem to proportionally match at the moment. She's long had a habit of getting a big maintenance cut every few years, then growing it long again. I do, too.

I first grew mine out in nineteen-- well, I was about 21 and that was a few decades ago. The longest I've had mine was in the early '90s when it was almost waist length. I loved it that long, but, oddly, like GCHR88 with her "mid buttocks" length, after growing it quite long I wanted it shorter for awhile. I got a wedge cut and loved it for about a year.

Rachel_Christina, you have the most beautiful hair I've seen on Susan's in years. Your color is perfect, too. Blonding often causes drying and damage. I'm sure you'd be gorgeous blonde, but you there already, babe.

Oh right should probably actually pony up on my claims. Even if I'm starting to feel like this photo makes me look really unpassable after all.

Omg me too! Hated my hair when it was short pre hrt. Now I'd be okay if my hair is good to mop the floor with. Just as long as it's long!! I'm not going for "aesthetic goals" at this point

It's about armpit length, I've been growing it for around two and a half years.  The biggest downside is my hair is horrendously frizzy if I don't straighten it, though that tends to get rid of my waves too which I'd prefer to keep.

Overall, I still like it, and I'm planning on letting it grow longer.

Tried measuring it with a micrometer... no luck.

I'm one month and three days on HRT and two week and three days post orchi. Stopped shaving my melon about two weeks ago. The crown looks like a wheat field that was mowed about four years ago and never replanted.

If it doesn't improve visibly by 01 June 2018, the mower will come back out... unless locusts finish it off first.

Most likely it'll never be a keeper, which is why it has been shaved for the past 14 years. Someone took a picture of me with hair. It looked like a wad of cotton that moths had used for a feeding frenzy; my guess is they starved to death.

Could that be why they make wigs?

Katie Ellen,

Well......I cut my hair. It's about an inch long now. Mostly to avoid questions for a while and it is summer. I know poor excuse! I also started taking Finasteride so hopefully it will help with the little thinning I have on top. I plan on this being my last "boy" haircut.

Hi Katie Ellen,                    17 May 2017

Last "boy" haircut; fantastic. I have started letting mine grow; the sides and back are fine except for the whiteness. The top is looking quite "moth eaten." I'm going to give it a bit more time to see if the HRT will help some, actually a lot.

See you started HRT; Congratulations and welcome to the users club.

Hope all is 100% at home. keep posting; I miss reading your updates.

Best Always, God Bless, All my Love,

Me at work today.  It is a little longer in the back, and all around longer without the curl.  The curls are from taking my hair out of braids this morning.

Maybe it's simply because I've been really busy and had marginally less time to pamper my hair, I feel I may be approaching the (dreaded) long enough that it starts to be trouble point. I'm finding it tangles a lot more than just a month ago. I've inspected the ends and there seems to be no damage. I'm approaching 4 months since my last cut so there's probably been a bit shy of 2 inches of growth.

Does anyone have experience in the difference between caring for hair that's mid-back length or longer? Mine is now approaching mid back and I'm wondering if difficulty starts going up a lot now?
