Where to start?

Seems there is a broad field of experiences where people have started their transition.  I am curious where we all started.

Started with HRT
Started with electrolysis or hair removal/ alteration
Started with voice therapy
Started with piercings, makeup, clothes
Started with something else

I am more curious than anything.  Just read a thread where the member indicated they started with voice and I was like, huh? In a way it makes some sense now that I consider it.  For me voice was last on my list but one of my biggest fears.  Where did you all start with your transition and why?

Best regards,

Bea

I started with electrolysis but had to stop because HRT cost me so much without insurance.  I know hair removal and voice training are so very important to passing but HRT to Actually change me to being more me is/was my peimary focus.  I will work on passing more when everything else falls in line.

I started with HRT. Well actually I started with therapy for permission to get HRT. Thankfully I didn't need electrolysis or voice therapy.

Glad you could skip a few steps.  It's interesting to hear how unique these experiences are for each of us.

Well I didn't luck out like she did so I ended up going in this order: therapy, hair removal, HRT, voice training, and mixed charm and cosmetics school in there somewhere.

I really can't explain what happened with my puberty. At 16 I was 5'3, had no facial or body hair and though my voice had changed it was still well within the female range. When Tyler was 16 he was 6'3 already, had face and body hair, a very deep voice and male musculature. My dad even took me to a doctor to have me checked for a pituitary tumor or something. They found nothing wrong. The doctor just said that just because my dad and Tyler were big guys that didn't guarantee I would be. Whatever the cause I'm grateful. I've often wondered if being trans can effect us physically. It's weird what the mind can do and cause physically.

Sometimes biological oddities just work out for you and I think you might be right on physical effects.

I developed a fair bit of facial hair but was lacking a lot of the other regular male features.  My voice dropped a bit but not super low.  My brow ridge and brows weren't as heavy as my father's or brother's, I had very little body hair aside from legs and some on my arms, and I definitely ended up with a way smaller nose.  My nose, jaw, and hair line are way closer to my sister's than that of my dad and brother.  I also ended up with wider hips than the rest of the guys.

My grandfather and uncle always thought my lack of male development was due to me being albino. But albinism has absolutely no effect on physical development. Typical of their ignorance. Lol

It is difficult to really say where I started... did I start as a teenager collecting items of clothing, only to purge, and purge again... or did it start more recently when I couldn't control the dysphoria anymore... in which case, I started by asking my GP to refer me to the Gender Identity Clinic... then on the same day started with shaving from face to toes... then sugar waxing after the ingrown hair nightmare... then epilating after the sugar waxing took the skin off my fingers... then back to shaving the hairs that epilator misses.

Then I started practicing my voice in the car using YouTube videos for help... I find the count to 100 and then countdown again in a Mickey Mouse voice... then as you get into the last 10 dropping the voice slightly while speaking at the front of the mouth works really well. But emphasising my local accent (which is one of those singsong type accents) also helps really well too.

After that I started on dht blockers. Then started changing my clothing to more androgynous women's clothing... things that can pass as male clothing but bought from the women's or unisex sections (jeggings, light trainers, women's hoodies and t-shirts, etc.).

Then started a low dose of estrogen in March.

Hello again Bea

I suppose that in a sense my transition started when I first crossdressed as a child and indeed I crossdressed and bodyshaved all my adult life.

However I think you refer to taking positive action to address our transgender status and/or to alleviate the GD. Hence I voted "HRT" but to be precise it was therapy which confirmed the necessity of HRT thereafter.
So the sequence for me has been as follows:

1. Therapy
2. HRT
3=. Laser of body and buying more make up and learning make up
5. Electrolysis of face and as this proceeds, make up becomes more applicable (in more ways than one!)
6. Shortly I will start the last which is Voice.

Hugs

Pamela

I think a lot of really got a ur start with clothes even in a playful way.  I know I did.  When I finally decided to be assertive about the change I did electrolysis first, or started it at least. Then started HRT which caused me to cancel the hair removal because I could not afford both.
