Well, transguys tend to be over sensitive about what's "girly" and avoid anything that's feminine. I think that's nonsense. I bought a girl's jacket at VANS a couple weeks ago. Sure, it still looks androgynous, but I know of trans guys who refuse to go anywhere near the girl's stuff. The thing is, I don't see how having feminine qualities would make me less of a man. Granted, my feminine qualities are few and far between. It's not like I dance and sing with the birds and braid ribbons in my hair. But the thing is, sometimes I see some transguys as somewhat woman-haters. They'll say that everything which is feminine is disgusting. I can't see it that way. Not only do I like things like my one flamboyant pink shirt, but I also appreciate femininity. I think I especially like how transgirls overcome their natural masculinity and their womanhood shines through. I just don't get why trans guys often latch onto the male stereotype. It's no better than when a girl latches on to the girl stereotypes.

Pretty much, I listen to musicals, blues, stuff like The Beatles, ABBA, etc. My selection is not "gendered." I like movie themes, too. Most music I listen to is just classic American stuff that most everyone loves.

I dont tend to avoid anything and everything girly, just mainly the cloths because I dont feel right in them.  I wont beat off a pink shirt with a stick as long as I feel comfortable in them.  If I could I would totally just run around naked because cloths are awkward in general for me, not just girls clothing.

I agree when you say Transguys are sensitive about avoiding girlier things, but so are plenty of bio guys.  Everyone just wants to fit into their gender roles I guess.  I just enjoy avoiding the weird looks.  I never was much for attention grabbing.

Beefheart fans seem to be almost always male, as are gang of four fans, or wire, or any complicated, textured (interesting) music. Most girls I know leap for melody.

As for squealing, that is the most irritating reaction to anything, male or female.

Squealing is... immature, I suppose? You mostly see teenage girls doing it, or young adult women who are childish for their age, or flamboyant gay guys who are just ridiculous most of the time anyway. At least that's the impression I have and that most people probably hold. It's not endearing to people who don't do it.

I enjoy techno and being able to hear every sound going on instead of static or its all covered by a wailing guitar.

Lol, Its not exactly squeeling that I do, its more like a really high pitched and long 'Wow!'
Its pretty annoying, but I forget to catch myself from doing it.

Yep... My feelings exactly.  Plus my hearing tends to be sensitive to high sounds.  Just was tortured on bus by some child screaming.. geh...  was like having a cold knife go through me head... 

People are probably blowing this "squealing" thing out of proportion. I know that if I ever squealed, it wasn't a shrill scream. It was along the lines of, "Oh. My. GAAAAAAWD!" Something like that. An enthusiastic blast of excitement. It doesn't last long and it doesn't involve screaming.

Regardless, I don't see why I'm defending myself. I don't do it anymore.

Im not sure in the age range, but some of the music listed here is DEFFINATLY geared towards girls....

KD Lang, Avril and so on are created for female audiences. Its a marketing thing, and it will give you away if your past your teen years...

It would be like someone in my age range liking Hanson..... for a male its JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE. Or Justin Timberlake or <and the list goes on and on>

Just like theres certian music that women are supposed to dislike... Slipknot, Pantera and so on...

Music by deffinition is not gendered, but societys views on music and artists create the impression, the ilusion that it is.....


If your really about your music giving you away though I recomend one thing... Dont sing along to it... that will be a deal breaker, especialy if the voice dosnt match what your trying to impart upon other people...  <Driving down the road blasting the Misfits with Mike Graves and singing along perfectly at the top of your lungs for the MtF>


So far as the squeeling... Ive never seen anoyone other than teenage girls, some very rare girly girl adults, and gay men do it... Thats probably not a good idea...

Ah, I only liked Avril for some of her older stuff, and Girlfriend because the song got so annoying so fast that if you sing it people get the F**k out of the lunch hall, and then you can finally eat your food in peace and quiet.  Ah... gotta love a few forms of torture...

But its true, some stuff guys dont listen to because its not seen as a manly sort of thing to the public, and I understand that, but music is music and I tend to enjoy it.  Like I said before, half the time I don't care for the singer's voice, but more for the beat going on in the background, unless they have a really great voice.

And in my defence, K.D. Lang has an amazing voice.

If you really wanna screw with da boring norms, do what I do and mix in some older Pink Floyd, Cab Calloway, The Clash, Peeping Tom, DK, Butchies, Pony Up!, Depeche Mode, Ego Likeness, Collide, Iggy Pop, and the Xanadu soundtrack (that really messes with their heads). Put some Enya in there too along with some Sarah Brightman.

My favourite compilation I made consists of Disney Princess songs and '77 english punk - with one or two camp classics thrown in and small snippets of funny dialogue from 'b' movies....I love that CD.

I was doing sound once for some hippie show that went on way too long (like more than a minute) and the club owner asked if there was any announcement I could make to clear the club out very fast.  I told him I'd do that one better and played the University of Michigan fight song by their marching band.  The place emptied faster than if I had said "free pot samples outside".

I listen to Billy Joel, Elton John, The Beatles, Queen, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen, Simon and Garfunkel. Lots of stuff like that.

Are any of those "gendered" to you guys? I have the hardest time grasping the concept of music that is "gendered". You're supposed to listen and let it move you. You can't do that if you're worrying that it makes you seem not manly or girly enough!

Mostly I listen to trance, particularly tracks by Above & Beyond and Armin van Buuren. I think that most dance/electronic music is neutral in the perception of who it appeals to.

But having said that, sometimes my energetic side comes out and I listen to groups like DragonForce and Dark Tide. Real head-banging stuff, lol.

I think the only time music has the perception of appealing to a specific gender is when it's specifically marketed that way in order to affect sales. Such as making a compilation album of rock and power ballads, then calling it "The Greatest Dad's Album In The World... Ever!", before finally releasing it to coincide with Father's Day. That does tend to attach a significance seperate to the tracks themselves.

In fact, if I could see your music collection, I can guess your background, your education level, your IQ and your income.
