Might be taking my first real step tomorrow

I'm going to talk with someone in Counseling Services at my school tomorrow. I tried to e-mail the director to see if anyone there has experience with trans students and she never replied, so I'm just going in tomorrow. I'm worried about getting a therapist I have to teach about trans issues, but if they're willing to learn and have the credentials necessary to write me a T letter, I'll just suck it up. It's free no matter what, so it won't hurt to check it out. I've had a renewed urgency lately to get on T, because of elevated dysphoria, a newfound confidence in my identity, and the realization that I'm in the process of acquiring a teaching certification, which will mean student teaching within two to three years. If I can be unambiguously male from the beginning of my teaching experience, I think that'll be best for everyone involved. So yeah...I really hope to get some good news tomorrow. I'll keep you guys posted. ..Btw, "tomorrow" = Wednesday. I just realized how late it was. Hah..

Good luck with tomorrow, I hope it goes well for you!

I'll be in your exact same position, but only next week :).

I wimped out, because I'm so afraid of screwing up. I'll try again tomorrow. Maybe if someone goes with me, it'll be less overwhelming.

Taking that first step is scary.  I remember... i spent months and months chickening out.  You'll do it when the time is right.  Good luck.

You can't screw it up.  Think of it as the first step in doing something positive for yourself.  And we're here for ya!

I'd looove to write an e-mail, but there's no generic address for Counseling Services, so after no reply from the first in the list of specific contacts, I figured I'd try a new strategy. I think I just need to beat into my head how important this is, and stop making excuses.

So what happened at the school then? Sorry Im a tad confused?

Just take a deep breath and do it. Nothing good is going to come out of chickening out. You're only making yourself more nervous.

You can, and should, call their counseling department. They've got to have a number.

You should definately do it, I promise you it will be the best and most important thing you ever do in the long run, you won't ever look back.  It took me a while to take those first, few tentative steps too, it seems an age ago now although it's not even been a yeaar yet since I first spoke to someone official.

Before I made the leap, I too was worried; about how people would react, what they would say etc...even if they would laugh or wouldn't take it seriously.

My doctor was super, really understanding, so was the pyschiatrist he referred me to for assesment and now today I got a letter through the post, I finally have my referall to the gender identity clinic in january where hopefully I will commence T after being assessed by them as well!!

It will seem an incredibly long process, I am only just at the beginning myself and I have been waiting for several months just to get my referral from the GIC and my appointment isn't until January 21st but I am so, so glad I took those first steps to get the ball rolling so to speak.

It just got to the point for me where I couldn't just sit back anymore, I had accepted and come to terms with myself and had been living as a man for awhile but I knew I needed to kick start the process of getting on to T and eventually getting surgery so I can feel more at home in my own body.

I need to do this and if it's half as important to you as it was/ is for me I urge you to bite the proverbial bullet and take the plunge.  At least to talk through your feelings about this with a professional.

If you ever need anyone to chat to in more depth about this I am more than happy to lend a friendly sympathetic ear and whatever guidance, advice etc I can offer.  I am not a trained counsellor by any means but I do understand completely how you feel.

Best of luck with it all (and I know you will find the strength to do whatever is right for you, no matter what that is)
