There was another post on here about name change and that got me thinking cause i hopefully plan to get it changed this summer. Im changing the first and middle. I like Shaun as the first name but one of my friends wants me to change it to Winston or Chauncey, what do u think? Also ive been stumped on the middle name i cant just leave it as Marie, i was thinking along the lines of Eric, Aaron,or Edward. If u can think of a better middle name tell me of which of those 3 would be better.

I think it's great to talk to your friends and get their opinions.. but realistically if anyone is going to chose your name I would either just do it myself or ask my family what they think. if your friend likes those names, that's great, let them name their future children that. Shaun is a great name, and 3 other names all sound good (without knowing your last name I'd go with Edward).. if your not really sure, have you ever asked your parents what they were going to name you if you had been born a bio male?

Choose the name you like, that fits you.  You're the one who has to live with it, not your friends.

I went with the masculine versions of my given names, because I'm an old fart and dislike change.  Also have a lifelong association with my initials and wanted to honor the name my parents chose.  I didn't like the name they would have named me if I had been born male.

Other people have different reasons for choosing their names, but it boils down to what you like, ultimately.

My middle name was Marie too lol.
Don't base your choice on what your friends think. This is going to be your name, so f everyone else.
Maybe ask your parents what they would have called you if you'd been born male? Might give you some ideas for a middle name.

What I ended up doing was look in a mirror and say whatever combination of names I thought COULD fit me. I said a bunch of them over and over, looked at myself and when one really fit, it fit. If you've been using the name Shaun for a long time changing it might not be a good idea. Marie can be masculinized to Murry or a similar name but might not go with your new first name and last name.

Mine did too. I couldn't stand that name—especially the first and middle together. I was alright with my first name on its own—hell, if it was gender neutral, I totally would have kept it. What I decided to go with was one that kind of looked and sounded like my original name and was gender neutral. I was going to go with the masculine version of the name I picked (Aaron), but I found that I really liked the version I did end up going with (Aren) so much better; I liked how it looked and it just seems to fit me better. And, if you draw the "r" down to an "n", and switch two letters around, you'll be right back to my original name. I thought that was really neat, 'cause I really had no problem with my original name, it just unfortunately happens to be a girl's name.

Mine, sadly. :( Actually it's waaay to common. I think every other woman's middle name is Marie. It disgusts me.

I was reading somewhere about common female middle names and apparently Marie is the most common because it sounds good with almost every first time.  My given middle name, Elizabeth, is second most common, also because it sounds good with almost any first name.

Found the article!  Only a small section on it is about boys' middle names, which apparently follow none of the rules and trends of girls'.

PS-- I totally met a kid today who's actual legal name was Robert Remmington Steele.   ;D
In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity.

Fortunately, my given name is male and my middle name is made male by changing a single letter.  Pretty easy to change Diane to Duane, which is the plan.
