Remember the job I told you about ? They took me... not. Actually, it's the main concurrent of that hotel that hired me. I started my training today ; the job is not too hard and fun. I did not even have to mention my sister had worked there before. They did not make a single comment on my hair, either !

What is weird, though, is that I was hired from my résumé and a 5-minute conversation. No interview. Well, that's great, because I do nothing better than sweat at interviews.

I have more income, so I will be able to take an appointment for electrolysis very soon ! How neat is that ?

(I had to buy new pants, though. Black jeans don't do, haha. Plus, I plan to use many, many band-aids from now on, since I will have to wear my ugly black leather shoes that hurt my feet.)

I don't even know the salary (I was too afraid to ask), but the minimum salary is fine for me. And after 60 days of work, I get to be in the syndicate. I'm not sure what it concretely means for me, but I guess it more or less protects me from discrimination, which cannot hurt.

In the beginning, I am told I will do 5-10 hours/week in average, mainly doing replacements. But I will probably eventually work more.

The one problem is transportation, as the buses are not worth sh't in my city (one every 30 minutes maximum ; only from 10 o'clock to 17 o'clock in the weekends), but I think I can manage. And I still own a car I can "borrow" from my sister if I'm in need.

I sure am happy ! Screw that hair-standard-maniac hotel !

Congratulations!

By "syndicate" I assume you mean a union. Union membership is good, and well worth the dues; it not only protects you from discrimination (usually through requiring a certain due process before you can be fired, and demanding a transparent process for raises and promotions) but is also charged with representing employees' interests collectively in negotiations with management regarding everything from pay to working conditions and breaks to safety and health concerns. Some people get mad about paying union dues, but in general unionized workers take home more money and better benefits than non-unionized workers even when union dues are factored in.

Good luck with the transportation situation :) I'd suggest a bicycle, but you're in Quebec, and it is winter, so...maybe not a great solution. It's too bad about the buses...which city are you in? I remember Montreal at least having a respectable public transportation system.

I'm not sure about saying in which city I am as the transsexual rate here is probably 1:500 000 (yeah, we all flee this place), but take into notice that its population is less than 150 000 and that it covers more than 1 000 square kilometers. The hotel is 10 km away from my home... Kind of far.

On weekdays, the buses are fine. One every 30 mins, from 6 o'clock to 23 o'clock. But it's terrible on weekends. Saturday : 10:00-17:00 / Sunday : 12:00-17:00.

Tomorrow I work from 11 to 18. Sunday I work from 8 to 11. None of these shifts fit with the buses. I am currently arranging with my mother and sister for the car, but heck, I hate that bus organization ! I hope I won't have to refuse work because I just cannot get there... That alone would be enough of a reason to fire me.

Good luck A. Great news.

Do try to sort out your transport problems. The last thing you want is to lose your job.
