Her: Cool.

You: Ummmm....

Her:

You can just tell she's sitting there all cheerful while you're freaking out because you can't figure out what you're supposed to say. And yes. I speak from much experience.

Oh, and reading isn't girly. If you think about it, it even started with monks and intellectuals, who were all men to start. Unless you're reading romance novels or "cozy cottage mysteries" it's completely androgynous.
