Is it girly to enjoy reading? My boyfriend says it is; I say he's talking bovine feces.

I mean, reading Twilight and trashy romance novels is girly, reading Chuck Palahniuk, books about faeries and science fiction is manly, right?

I don't know if this is "artist" or "bloke" but...

Reading is definitely not girly. Personally, I don't care what people do or don't like to do, because "different strokes for different folks" and all that, but the only thing that genuinely bothers me is when people dismiss reading as a waste of time. I just can't wrap my head around it.

And science fiction is amazing. Nothing girly about Dune.

There's nothing innately girly in reading, not for any goal.

...your phone conversations always have a point to them and need not last hours. Which leads to awkwardness when women call "just to check in."

For example:
Her: Heeeeeeey, how are you?
You: Okay. How are you?
Her: Good. ^___^
You: .....
Her:
You: ...so anything going on?
Her: No, not really. You?
You: Nope.
Her: Cool.
You: Ummmm.... 
Her: 

You can just tell she's sitting there all cheerful while you're freaking out because you can't figure out what you're supposed to say. And yes. I speak from much experience. 

Oh, and reading isn't girly. If you think about it, it even started with monks and intellectuals, who were all men to start. Unless you're reading romance novels or "cozy cottage mysteries" it's completely androgynous.

Really now, I can't imagine why anyone would consider reading girly unless they had issues reading and used that excuse as their defense mechanism.

Texting doesn't help me - I just got a text from a friend of my boyfriend. I don't know her, never had a real conversation with her, and she keeps texting me just to say "heeeeeey", never ask a question, and reply in single words. Our most productive conversation was about the weather. Yet she still steals his phone to have these pointless exchanges.

Though normally I do prefer it to talking on the phone. It gets your point across faster.

My texts and conversations are amazingly girly. xD  I do a lot of smiles and ups and downs with my voice.  When I text or type, there's always a smiley of some sort involved.  I'm very emotional when I talk.

Anyway, I learned I don't ask directions...like the stereotypical guy.  xD  I did it today looking for the parking areas.  I drove around for 30 minutes looking for one and finally gave up and parked in handicap (I was trying to avoid it because I don't care to let people know).

Oh god, girls that call! I have the same one. Just a few days ago my ultimate-girly friend calls:
Her: Hiiiiiiiiii!
Me: Hi.
Her: How are you?
Me: Good.
Her: What are you doing?
Me: ... Eating.
Her: Ooo, what are you eating?

Instead of growling angrily "What-do-you-want?" I almost started laughing because I cannot imagine anybody caring for such an unimportant thing that much. I prefer texting sooo much more than calling just because you try to fit everything in those 160 letters and doooooont taaaaaaaalk sooooooo muuuuuuuuuch

I hate that. My friend did the same thing yesterday. Does it all the time. Then she sounds entirely upset when after ten minutes of silence I say I have to go. She also does the asking what I'm eating. I just kinda want to stop answering my phone but she's the type who will just keep calling. And wait... I use a lot of smileys in general. That's girly?

Oh yeah the chick phone calls.

Anyone ever see that Family guy where Peter has to go to sensitivity training or something and basically they turn him into a woman? He calls up Quagmire and is all, "Whatcha doin'?" and it was totally like one of those girl convos and Quagmire was basically all, "why'd you call?" haha yeah.

Oh lawdy the phone thing, I can't stand people who call me "just to chat" - it ends up in a lot of awkward silence and they seem to be fine with this, just the mere act of me being on the other end of the phone seems to be ok for them. This bugs me, it's using up a hand and distracting me from whatever I'm doing at the time. Get to the point and hang up for the love of god
