"kung pao and a movie" also known as "Kosher Xmas" round here (and for my ex who taught me about this in Chicago, her family did it when she was a kid, back in the 60s). The funny thing about Christmas Story is that they are the only ones in there. Any of the good places in SF, well you better be making reservations now 'cause you aren't just showing up and getting in. The other funny thing is how much this deal in places with large Jewish populations (Bay Area, LA, NYC, Chicago, all of which have substantial Chinese populations) has become this strange bi-cultural support for two groups that didn't do that specific holiday. It's a beautiful deal about some parts of America where the importance of how we intersect with other people, and other cultures is always there to see.
Also, FTR, the other big, huge bustling deal that is open on Xmas are the top line hotels. Most serve a huge gluttonous banquet, and most of the services, the bar, a short order food place, the recreation stuff is all up and running.
