I attended a 'real life' support group a couple of times to find out about local trans-friendly mental health and medical professionals[At the time of my transition even though it was there, I didn't have access to the internet 1997/8] ...The info I got from the group helped heaps as I was at a lose as to how to go about transitioning...
Hi Zenda
It's not bad to get the information you need, some people are further in transition and you can take advantage of their knowledge.
In my time it just wasn't there but that didn't matter, I knew what direction I wanted to go and I was determinated to do so.
I knew I was a girl from young age, the only thing was that there was something wrong with my body.
During childhood I was oppressed for my feelings, once I was a grown up it was time to let her free.
I didn't even know it was possible in my country but I knew it was possible in England so, if nessecairy I would go to England.
It was a pleasant surprise that everything was also available in Amsterdam, I asked my general practicioner for it, he didn't knew it either but he had colleagues to ask.
Since transition was behind my back, my life is just a big party, so much fun.
I don't have problems, with work, friends or relatives and I still enjoy every day of the life I have now.
So. I'm in the position to give support.
Hugs
Annette
