Would attempting this somehow backfire on me (related to shark week)?

LexiToPeter?

So a couple months back, my sister missed her period, and from my understanding, it was because she was exercising ALOT. She was out on the trampoline for hours at a time everyday, that kind of thing. I haven't had mine yet, and while it isn't my worst dysphoria trigger, I'd do nearly anything to avoid it. I need the exercise anyway.

Do any of you know if exercising an insane amount will most likely make you miss your period, or does it vary from individual to individual? Would it just make it late or...? oh, and assuming this does work, if I keep up the exercise now, past when my period should've been, all throughout the next month, will the effect be the same? (As in, since my body's used to the exercise at that point, it wouldn't have the same effect.)

Also, would there be any other health-related things that I'd have to watch out for? Like pulling muscles, etc.

Thanks in advance guys.

I think it's more related to your general level of fitness rather than the amount you've been exercising that month. Lots of female athletes stop menstruating, but it's because of their muscle and fat levels. I doubt you could change your level of muscle that fast. Also, people miss periods and have late periods all the time, sometimes for totally random reasons. If you exercise heavily and consistently it might make your period stop, but there's really no way to say for sure.

Julian is right on this one unfortunately.

Most guys absolutely loathe the idea of this, but if you are on the pill at all, or wouldn't feel like offing yourself to go on it, you can use that to miss shark week. I had to take the pill before I was on T to regulate my horrible cycle, and so by missing the sugar pills I went several years without shark week, except for the occasional breakthrough here or there. It's one alternative. :) Otherwise, who knows, maybe if you become crazy fit you can stop them that way, but it seems like a lot of work! XZ

Having a very low level of body is likely to stop mestruation. However, it is extremely unhealthy and I really hope that you do not try.

When I was younger I did over-exercise in an effort to stop my periods and this resulted in years of the absolute hell of eating disorders and a bunch of other health problems.

Yeah, it's all about the body fat. Your body has a certain threshold, and when you drop below it, the sharks stop circling. You have to be either very thin or very athletic and muscular. The former is pretty bad for you. I don't know about the latter.

FYI, if you are on the Pill, you can usually skip the last week of pills and start a new packet, thereby avoiding the sharks. But you're supposed to have a shark week every so often (a few times a year, I think), and, of course, you would have to put female hormones into your body to skip shark week in the first place.

Well crap. I'll still work towards getting fit, even if it won't magically solve the problem. The pill doesn't seem like a likely option. But thanks for all the replies guys!

Also, stress. Anytime I've been too edgy or too unhappy, I lose my periods. When I get too skinny, I lose my periods. When I get pneumonia, I lose my periods. Etc. It's really honestly not a good sign, even though it seems like a dream come true.

A lot of birth controls pills are the equivalent to (or actually are) supplements of estrogen or progesterone. If you aren't looking to feminize your body any further, you might not even want to attempt going this route. Exercise is much better for you and can help make your periods less painful, as well as lighter. Also, it naturally boosts testosterone. :]

Well if that's the case about birth control, I'm definitely not going to even attempt to get them.  :/ I think I'll just try and get healthier. :)

Yeah, they're really only an option if you have to be on them for whatever reason anyway...I don't think any of us would actually choose to go that route unless shark week was a huge personal problem. That's why I only suggested it on the off chance that you were on them already. :)

Shark week?

That one week out of the month that tends to get a little bloody.

And I'm on birth control pills, but my body couldn't have gotten much more feminine, so eh. :P

It's unhealthy, but it's what I do.  At one point, I had to get a lot of exercise, lost weight, and realized that I get read as male more often at a lower weight.  Then shark week and all of the crap that goes along with estrogen stopped, and I was ecstatic.  I rationalize it by saying that I'll be starting T soon, so I'm not hurting my body for too long.  Actually, with family drama and the holidays, I gained a bunch of weight back, so now I'm paranoid about getting it back before I lose the weight again.  The point is, it's unhealthy.  I didn't think about food much before I started doing this, and now it's turned into a control thing for me because I think I can at least control my weight when the rest of my life seems out of control.  So, basically I developed a full blown eating disorder because I figured out that I could miss shark week if I exercised like crazy and didn't eat much.  It sucks, I don't recommend it.

Yeah...reading the newest posts...I think I'll try to just get healthy and deal with shark week as needed. It sounded great when it first hit me, but it doesn't sound too healthy.

Mister

Can't say I ever heard of this being dangerous in any way.  I didn't have my period for 4-5 months at a time back when I swam 15 hrs a week in HS.  But really dude. T is $60 for a couple months' worth...

I'd love to be on T, but alas, I'm a minor. Only recently out to my parents, who aren't taking it seriously. It might be a while. :/
