The first tennet is that with knowledge comes responsibility. If you know something is wrong, if you know how it could be made right what you are doing about it is the test. Talking the talk is easy, but even if walking the walk is scary it is also the most powerful and liberating way to really live your destiny.

I'm a Heggenheimian witch. But I don't think you mean anything like that; Heggenheim is about the world between reality and fantasy; between wake and dream. It's rather fascinating, but it's not like shamanism, in that it recognises the realm of reality being real, and fantasy, dream and the astral plane as not being real. (Not that they aren't exciting and fascinating; just not real.)
So a spirit totem, though it offers much insight and wisdom, isn't real.
But I always enjoy talking with Shamans, as there are a lot of things we have in common. And that is mostly travel, I admit.

before i got into shamanism i dabbled with astral travel but i got attacked by god knows what. never again

Little hint of the astral: Shield your own mind from the nightmares of others. The astral is basically hive-mind fantasy; if you're having a nightmare, and you're linked to this hive mind fantasy, your nightmare may bother someone else.
Nothing is actually real in the astral; it's all fantasy. Knowing this can also offer some safety from the horrors of the mind. The only trouble is: It's not just your own fantasy; it's that of everyone participating; be it consciously or accidental.

I suffer from an extreme case of Newtblo (NWTBLO). Also known as "not wanting to be left out".

Does being a Christian Contemplative count. I took a seminary course called "The Practical Theology of Mysticism" Some of what has been talked about here has parallels in the Judeo Christian traditions. Its not what conservative fundamental christians want to admit to but it is there.

Any thoughts?

Well,  Shamanism and witchcraft are a practice, a philosophy, a mystical path. But not in itself a religion. Being christian doesn't mean you can't be a witch or shaman, in addition, though many pagans and christians alike will disagree with me, on that respect. (Because witchcraft is, these days, a term mainly used for wiccan religious activities.)
So you're not left out. It's all about spiritual journeys, and helping others who are in need of your help. In that respect; religion can be the basis for your spiritual path, but isn't nescessarily so.
For example, and this is an example used a lot on these forums, many christians do not 'walk the talk.' And that's fine in itself, because 'walking the talk' with christianity comes awfully close to witchcraft. 😉

Yes the path can be scary (or better still exciting); but we can choose to either vegetate by compartimenting or deniing the reality of our experiences, thougths, feelings, instincts, dreams, connections etc... by using labels to define or limit ourselves and others or we can live our destiny to the full by embrassing and integrating the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

We all have that choice.*

absolutley maebh.. the true definition of the word reality is "that which lies beneath" and i'm really excited about discovering what lies at my core.

Welcome Timberwolf. I wouldn't consider myself a shaman, however I have a few friends who've studied and taught me some things. I've delved more into pagan practices, reading tarot, etc., so perhaps I'm a witch  I definitely believe that being transgendered is a gift, if we choose to explore it, and can offer us much spiritual insight, because of our dual nature.
