i've noticed that ignorant people and bigots tend to classify transsexuals by their birth sex
their "trans man" would be spelled "woman" here

Yep. I just corrected a couple of ignorant people yesterday, very politely of course. They weren't bigots (in this case). Just ignorant.

Trans women are invading your bedroom? What?
And what's with the "wimmins?"

Radical men-hating feminists who give all the rest of us rational and caring feminists a bad name that's what!

The cartoon is great.
I refuse to listen to bigots who use words that are not in the English language.  "Wimmin" is right up there on my list of hates with 'agreeance'!

As a linguist I beg to differ. Wimmin and womyn etc. are English words regardless of what anyone thinks. You need to find out what a 'word' is. I say this in the nicest way of course  :)

The comics are adorable, people just seem to have a problem seeing trans-women as women just because of a simple birth characteristic.

I saw this in a strip called Abstruse Goose, which is basically a science/maths geek comic with an interesting edge to it. I'm not sure what the artist's intention was here, but I really like this!

The time travel one is great!  I've actually mused in the past about whether or not I would recognize my future self if we were to meet.  At the point in my life when I was thinking about it I would have been as surprised as that guy in the comic.  Very relevant, thank-you.

Yeah, I really like it. I have a feeling that the positivity of it for trans folk is accidental to the artist's humour, but I don't care, I've written to say thanks :).

Wasn't that great? The reaction wasn't the stereotypical "OMG, you're a woman!" but rather "Damn, you look pretty good." like it was no big deal. That's cultural progress to me, when it stops being a big deal.

Even better  :)

What I meant was that, looking at his other cartoons, he's clearly pro-LGBT, but it's just not one of his 'issues'. So this cartoon probably wasn't meant specifically as a pro-T statement, it just works really well that way :).

(I'm assuming from context the author is a bloke - I haven't been able to find out who it is yet.)

Oh, I agree - I just also take it as a nice observation that he has a positive outlook without being specifically pro-trans. Progress :)

I liked the innocence of the cartoon, it is quite refreshing to see the point of the "hook" done in so few words :)

Yea, I've seen this one before on my Google+ account.  It is cute (but I passed on diving into the hateful comments on FB ;) )

My friend posted this on Facebook and it has gotten a mix of supportive and some really hateful comments.

Here's one of the hateful ones (from this thread if anyone cares to chime in, though I'm not sure if I have the link right. Facebook is so annoying.):

I'm a great fan of irony, although I'm not sure if it applies to this artist given what you said about their LGBT support.  Perhaps the greatest irony then is that a pro-trans message may be completely lost on the general populace.  SNEAK-ATTACK!

Interesting comment, I bet if this cartoon was in a mainstream magazine with no other trans context folks would just see it as cute with an eye opening "what if" but with little other personal impact.

I love all of these comics! And I will also hold out my opinions of the raging bigot... but its all true parts should never be part of the equation...
