I was out book shopping with a buddy the other day when he picked up Twilight and read the first line aloud. We laughed ourselves silly.

Not an auspicious beginning.

Oh, dear. I was about to say something smart-alecky about Lucas Silveira taking over as Edward Whatsisname.

Oops. Guess I just said it. :o

I'm a big fan of the actress who plays Renee in the movies, but even if she was in half or more of the film I wouldn't watch them. I find the books to be very badly written as well.

For a lark, I just looked up and read the first few pages of Twilight on Amazon. That's five minutes I'll never get back. Did she not have an editor?

If anyone here admires passive verbs and vapid prose, by all means go for it. I think I'll pass.

While it's sad that she is such a horrible writer, what's even worse is that so many people think she's a good one. I've heard teens and old women going on about how talented she is. *GAG*

I thought the first book was cute, but certainly nothing special. It was just another teen romance (I won't quantify it as a VAMPIRE romance, as in my opinion, one must have fangs to qualify as a vampire. I guess that just makes it a cannibal romance...hehe). I liked the character of Jacob in the second book, because he at least came across as a person. I gave up on them after that.

Don't even get me started on the movies. The director needs to be drawn and quartered. I'm shocked that such an inexperienced person was allowed to touch such a high-popularity project. Not that it seems to have mattered to the fans, though....

That first paragraph is dodgy, dodgy stuff isn't it?

Okay, Im going to go against the popular opinion here and say I have thoroughly enjoyed the movies.  I have not read the books so i cant comment on them.

But as a movie in and of itself i enjoyed them thoroughly. For all the guys on here an action flick fans. The second is actually more in tuned with that as there are many more action scenes and "fight" scenes which hey was not my cup of tea but still enjoyed.

Okay this is all you can all go on hating it again :)

How funny. That's exactly the word I was writing when I decided to go with "vapid" instead.

I actually enjoyed a couple of the books... The hype over the movies and the actor who plays Edward just went waaaaay overboard. Stalker fangirls creep me out.

That first paragraph contains that cliche of young teen going to strange new town and a list of clothing - Vapid is a very good word. However, there must be something we're missing and one day when the hype dies down, if people are still considering worth reading without the encouragement of omnipresence, I may give 'em a go.... You can tell how solid a base a fad had by how many copies a charity shop has five years later.

Actually, my bud and I were IN a thrift store--not a cheesy one but a very nice one--when he picked up that book and regaled me with the first line. And there were many copies of the DVD and books in the series. Plus about a million VHS copies of Top Gun. :P

I thought the action that it had was pretty lame in itself. I mean it's not like transformers where you know the story is going to be horrid, but the action will actually be decent or good.

I wasn't a big fan of it either, but in comparison to the first one it seemed to be more of a "guys version" in that, I loved twilight. I loved the story and all of the above loved it. Where as my bf, wont admit he liked either movie but because i dragged him to both was able to admit..in comparison to the first it fit his interest better. thats not to say he actually liked it though if that makes sense?

Urrrrrgh...supernatural romance.

I've always enjoyed vampire movies and books, but I hate "Twilight". My bf took me to see it and we were both really embarrassed, annoyed and disappointed.
But I have not read the books and I have not seen the sequel. Frankly, I don't want to either.

That sort of describes Dracula, on one level at least. And a whole host of gothic stuff from years gone by.

Good point...tho dracula has a bit more of the supernatural and less of the romance. Infact thinking about it it's more supernatural lust, def something to do with being written in victorian times.
