This was suggested in another thread. Post a pic of you with your guns below, cause of reasons!
We're not out to offend anyone, so I politely ask that if you do not agree with guns etc. please ignore little ol' us
Seeing as I don't have any pics right yet, I'll just list them out.

Sig 9mm
Glock 9mm
Never fired the sig. I had mixed results with the glock tho. It fired smooth and everything, but I wasn't sure of the feel of it.
Sig is picky about ammo.. its a high brow weapon, no reloaders or bargain buy .. but it fires so nice and smooth.
I'll try to get a picture of everything sometime :)

My favorite would be a 3 way toss up between my Benelli M4, my AK-47, and my Winchester 1901. The Winchester always attracts lots of attention at the range.
I've gotten to fire a friend's S&W 500, a .50 caliber handgun. Holy crap, I wanted to shoot it more than the 10 times I did but my hand wouldn't have appreciated it.

Lol, not to mention to the tune of like$15 a round for the s&w.
Speaking of winchesters... I've had my eye on an 1866 "yellowboy" for some time. Just love the look and the history of it. And nowadays you can get them in a variety of bores which is fun.

Yeah, Winchesters just look cool.
I inherited my 1901 Winchester. It was made in 1910, and it's chambered in 10ga 2 5/8", which isn't so easy to get. I have a -ton- of vintage ammo for it though (also inherited), from the 50's to the 70's. It's all in good condition and still works - I've used a lot of it, but I still have about 500 rounds left.
I have 22 different firearms last count and several thousand rounds for each (OMG a veritable aresnal!) But I won't list them here. This is actually my favorite, a fellow at the local gun club gave it to me as a gift. It was in pristine condition for a weapon made over 110 years ago by some German craftsman, there is no serial number. So I made some ammo for it. The left barrel is a Damascus steel 16 ga. and I loaded up some full length 16 ga. brass with black powder #6 birdshot loads, some 00 buckshot loads and some round ball loads. The right side barrel is 11 x 51mm, I cut down some 45-70 brass, necked it to 11mm and cast a 375 grain bullet that shoots well with a low pressure smokeless powder. The gun has point blank flip up rear dovetail sights and exposed hammers, my first shot at 50 yards went right through the X ring. The fellow that gave me the gun offered to pay $300 for it once he knew that I had been shooting it successfully. I had done my homework and found that collectors are paying $2400 for the same gun in non-shooting condition. It is referred to as a European field gun, hunters had the option of bagging a few grouse or a nice buck or wild boar with this types of firearm.

I have a Mossberg 500 with three different interchangeable barrels, one full choke 30", Another modified choke 26" and a third 18" slugbore. I used to wonder why the the US army didn't buy them rather than the more expensive Remington pumps because they are sturdy and will continue to function loaded with dirt. Best weapons for house to house clearing ops. is a 12 ga pump, .45 auto and a bag of grenades, been there done that!
Here's what I can find on my phone, just my Remington 788 .308 win pictured with some soft point Federal ammo and a few magazines.

Here we go and enjoy a specially themed T-shirt as well. I have to admit that recently whenever I get to lay my hands on guns/swords/etc I almost feel a pressure to look a bit stupid with them... So, here is the most decent pic from improvised photo session - a sort of compromise, because if I posted some other pics I would be kicked out of this site as soon as mod would see them. And dont even ask! (I guess it would be enough to say that they were quite decent but no tee was involved)

What caliber is your handgun?
I have a .44 Magnum Ruger Blackhawk with a 10" barrel. I once commented at the shooting range that it seemed to me that people with little dicks like big guns, there were several men there at the time shooting large caliber handguns. At home I took a selfie sans clothing with that pistol holstered and hanging in front of my crotch, I won't be showing it here but my wife said that it really reenforces my earlier statement. :D

Got a single shot 12ga with rifled slug bore, handles 2 3/4 & 3" shells. Has 1 in 14 right hand twist, blade front and rear peep sight. It kicked like a mule so I drilled the stock and dadoed the forearm and brought the weight up from 5 to 8 pounds. Some populated areas allow only shotguns for deer season. I no longer hunt, so it's languishing in the gun locker.

I carry my XDS in an inside the waistband holster, fully loaded and cocked with a round in the chamber. It has no safety switch or button, but it does have a trigger safety and a grip safety that prevents it from going off unless you have a good grip on the firearm.
When I first started CCing I didn't like carrying with a round in the chamber, but eventually I started getting more comfortable with it, and now I always have one in the pipe ready to go.

That stinks. I really like Alaska's gun laws myself.
Concealed carry - no permit required. Must simply be 21 with no felonies
Open carry - Can be as young as 14 and OC as long as there is someone 21+ with you
Registration - none
Permit to purchase - none
Owner license - none
'assault weapon' (lol) laws - none
NFA restrictions - none
And in Ninilchik I'd often just shoot out my bedroom window. But that's only because 3 of 4 directions away from my house were safe directions for miles.

Of course, it was just a little tit for tat!
I sold off nearly all of my collection of gun related stuff when prices went ridiculous during the hysteria post-Sandyhook. All I have left is a little old AR-7 breakdown .22 and a POS Chinese air gun that I use for throwing pellets in the general direction of squirrels.
My tastes in firearms runs to the eclectic. Blackpowder, lever-action carbines, and long ranged shooting. I'd love to find a Mateba auto-revolver if I ever find a good price on one. Never been interested in EBRs and feel no need to conceal carry. IMO the aggravation of carrying outweighs the vanishing probability that I would ever need more than good sense and pepper spray.

Sorry hun, my sons have dibs. :-(
You have good taste. The mauser is just soooo much fun to shoot, and I have like 20 boxes of old German ammo for it.
And the P38 has to be the most reliable pistol I've ever fired. It's just an incredible design that never fails. I know everyone thinks Lugers are cool (and they are), but it was replaced by the P38 because it's not reliable. P38 = Best pistol I own.

ok, here's a pic of me with my Noveske AR. I need to get an EOTech and magnifier and all the other tactikewl stuff but I haven't got around to it yet. I have other needs and I really don't shoot it very much.

So I thought I would document some of my other guns like this:

But that's boring as hell. So here's a list.
HK USP compact 9mm
Sig 229 Elite 9mm
Beretta 92
Beretta PX4 9mm
M&P 9mm
Kimber shiny something or other 45
Ruger MK3 "45" 22
Ruger SP 101 22
And the Noveske.
I also have a Sig 238 I'm waiting to start the paperwork on.
Anyways, all that was boring and trying to take pictures of black guns in front of a black shirt was a bad idea, so I got creative. Don't hate and be sure not to look if you are like super easily scared of evil gun things, but WTF, I wanted to try a Die Hard/Lethal Weapon/Action Cliche and have some fun.

The proper identities have been covered for privacy sake.
I have several rifles, shotguns and handguns too numerous to mention but a few highlights are my:
Colt 45 1911,
Desert Eagle 44 Mag.
Remington model 700 with Leopold (excuse spelling) 8x scope,
AK74 (I traded in my AK47 on the newer AK74. I like the smaller caliber/more powerful round 74 version because it makes for a better all purpose rifle),
Mossburg 5500 MKII Semi Auto w/tactical conversion kit 12 ga. tactical shotgun,
Remington model 870 3 inch Magnum 12 ga. pump shotgun,
Ithica Crass antique double barrel 12 ga. (This one just hangs on my wall for it will bruise my shoulder badly if I shoot it without considerable amount of padding ie: layers of clothing which here in Florida is impractical).
Well there's the best of what I have. I'm currently looking for another 9mm S&W semi auto but for now my 1911 can handle anything that comes at me, lol! :icon_flower:

AK74 (I traded in my AK47 on the newer AK74. I like the smaller caliber/more powerful round 74 version because it makes for a better all purpose rifle)
I went with a 47 for better blasting through non-human obstacles, and also due to cheaper more abundant ammo, as well as more availability of parts and accessories. Also I know a couple people whose 74s jam more, not sure if that's just a fluke or not.
The 47 has always been known for being high quality. It depends on where it's made tho.
The American made ones tend to be a little over-engineered and the machining tolerances are a little tight. They still work great, but you have to be mindfull of keeping it clean. The Russian/Romanian 47's are a lot looser, and if you happen to drop it in a sand pile, mud puddle etc, it's loose enough for the sand to fall out and the gun will still fire with relatively minimal jamming... :)
A friend of mine stuffed his 47 full of Twinkies. Like, multiple jammed in the receiver, and stuffed into the cover, a bunch smeared all over the spring, just stuffed it with Twinkies. It still fired... Lol. All it took was firing a few magazines and it was fully functional again. They're great, durable weapons.
I'd never do the Twinkie test to mine, I love it too much lol. I've got a Romanian 47 with a folding stock and a Russian Kobra reflex sight. The sight pretty much cost the same as the gun itself but it was very worth it, since it's so durable. Plus it's fun to use
Anton Kalashnikov created the AK-47 for the former Soviet Union with the idea in mind that most of the third world countries insurgents that they would be distributing them to were not big on maintenance and cleaning weapons any more so than many of the peasants that would become soldiers in the Soviet armies. So he took the pragmatic approach and purposefully left the tolerances loose.

I have a 50 cal for blasting through non-human obstacles that will trash an engine block at over a mile if my aim is true. It has the full muzzle brake, tripod & bipod (I can use either). It's the most expensive gun in my arsenal. I forgot to mention it in my earlier post.
As to my 74, I shoot it more than my other rifles and haven't had it jam yet. I think it boils down to the clips you use in them. I know the disposable plastic ones would sometimes cause jams in my 47. I have the metal 30 round for my 74.
I guess I'll have to try and get an imjur is it?, account so I can post pic's on here.

Yeah I was just comparing why I chose the 47 over the 74. My Benelli M4 would probably be better at blasting through stuff depending on what I'm using in it and what I'm shooting.
I'd love to have a 50cal rifle, though. I imagine they're pretty expensive to feed, and I'd have no real application for it other than fun shooting and gawking at it, but maybe one day when I'm a millionaire I'll get one haha. My guns already eat a good amount of my income lol.

The Ruger LCP .380 auto is my concealed carry choice, sits in the center of my back under shirt tail or untucked T in a left handed holster, I'm right handed, so the butt is right there for fast access. A revolver's cylinder (aka wheel gun) always leaves a bulge so I prefer something flat for a concealed carry piece. However a revolver never has anything under compressed springs that can get baggy and malfunction when you need it. Magazines are the weak link in all autoloaders! Revolvers are more user friendly when you wake up at zero dark thirty all bleary-eyed and find a burglar in the house. Best to have that .357 magnum loaded with 38 specials so that if you had to fire it at night in self defense you will lose a lot less night vision than you would with magnum loads and the bullet won't go through the walls killing some innocent next door.

I have used nothing but Tapco or Circle 21 magazines in my Tantal and to this day I have only had two double feeds (turned out to be a bad case after trying in two different magazines) with zero FTF or FTE, no tilting, and no follower issues. Really the only problems I have ever had all stemmed from Silver Bear ammo. I was constantly having inconsistent loads and several bad primers.
I carry my 1911 in a shoulder holster under my light jacket. I'm too small and thin to carry it anywhere else. That's why I'm looking for another S&W 9mm Semi-Auto.

I guess it boils down to the comment "You get what you pay for!" Some of those off brands can be suspect. Once I got into a 300 round per week habit I decided that reloading was the best way to go to keep the cost minimal and the quality consistent. I found that I could work up an optimum round for each weapon that would give me the very best groups and loaded up a quantity for each that I probably won't be able to shoot up in my lifetime, but it would be premium for bartering if the dollar suddenly collapsed anyway. I mined a ton of lead out of the local range backstop and cast up all my .45 auto and .44 Magnum rounds and use gas checks on the .44's. Made my own bullet lube out of a mixture of bees wax and graphite grease, this all made shooting much more cost effective.

Btw .223 is 5.56mm so you may want to edit that.

Cartridge/bullet size yes....but pressure when fired...no. The 5.56 has a higher pressure and a rifle marked for only .223 may not be able to handle the 5.56 rounds safely. I'd rather not have it blow up in my hands. :)

Well I learn something new every day, I stand corrected! My own .223 (5.56mm) rifle is military as is all my brass, so it's never crossed my mind. Some MOA shooters load their ammo so that it fits snugly in the throat.

The finish on civil market guns are usually better. The last M4 I was issued was pretty rough and its finish didn't hold up worth a damn. Pretty much anything made in the past decade can take M855A1 just fine.

I think arms manufacturers had to change the rifling twist rate in newer rifles since the days if the original M16's that fired M193 ammo and the round produces higher pressures. Am I right about that?
I think that is rightish. I donno, I am not a fan of the Stoner/M16 family, I only used one at the office because that is what they made me sign a hand receipt for.
They did change the twist rate to a 1:7 but that really has nothing to do with the pressures the rifle can handle, it deals more with bullet stabilization. Prime example is when Century first released there Tantal it had 3 barrels, a 1:7 a 1:9 and I forget the third barrel. Since 95% of 5.45x39 on the market is 60 grain ammo it prefers a certain twist rate to stabilize the round. The 1:9 and the other barrel caused rounds to destabilize and keyhole. The 1:7 twist stabilized the 60 grain rounds perfectly and ended the keyhole issues. The US military had to change twist rates when NATO put there stamp of approval on a certain grain bullet in the 5.56 round for bullet stability. Now one little known fact tho, is if your rifle has a chrome lined barrel, you could still have accuracy and stabilization issues because any imperfections in the bore won't be worn down as the rounds go over them as they would in a non lined barrel.

Thing is, reloading isn't an option for me tho, 1 almost all AK ammo is Berdan primed making reloading a beast to do. 2, the Kalashnikov platform is hell on cases and often cracks them AKA, the AK kiss. 3 dies in 5.45X39 are almost impossible to find and half of what you see on the market right now is cut down .223 cases and dies that are more likely to go BOOM and take off half your face, then bang and take out who ever was on the smokey end of the gun.
I have however switched to Hornday because of the 7n6 ban and have been very happy happy happy.

Being in a decidedly sedate corner of the UK, where this isn't really the done thing, I find the idea of gun ownership a very weird thing. If someone owned a gun where I live, they'd be looked at in a very odd way, lol.
However I'm genuinely interested in why folks who have posted here decide to own a firearm. Is it for protection? Because you like the aesthetics? Because you can? Or something else?

That is because you have been cowed and conditioned to not have that expectation. But I bet there are probably more firearms in your area than is widely known, even if they are the modest sporting gun or antique.

Yes. ;D Beyond their practical applications, it is because they are loud and stinky and fun. They are precision machines with refined engineering that has evolved over the centuries.

You're a sweetheart, but I really am. I was in the military for several years, and "owned" a sidearm myself. Although it was barely ever even worn being a Naval gal, aside from ceremonially. After I got out, I kinda settled down in an area where... let's just say the folks from Deliverance would be several orders of magnitude higher on the awareness scale. I'm fascinated by how you folks in the US do things. And why. Gun ownership here is a very different thing. There was one person I knew who used an air rifle to go hunting rabbits and squirrels and such in the local woodland. He was subject to whispered ridicule for being "creepy". Yes, lol, it is that bad. Although I suppose the Swastika flags and such he had emblazoning his house went some way towards that image.
I don't know, it's just really different where I live. If you own a gun, people automatically think you're going to use it for nefarious practices. Like that was the whole point of getting it or something. It's probably not like that in other parts of the UK. Just in my backwater burg, lol. Nevertheless, I find it fascinating to learn what the appeal is.

I belonged to a shooting sports club until last year and enjoyed shooting holes in paper targets and found that practice made me pretty proficient. Improving my scores was to me much akin to what some people get out of golfing, you're no longer focusing on the stress at work or any other problems, but focused 100% on improving one's own self control with regards to trigger pull by steady squeeze avoiding the propensity to flinch, target acquisition in timed events, and a certain camaraderie with other competitors followed by a trip to Starbucks and a little BS session. Beats going to church on Sunday.

I've fired a rifle and a shotgun, some thirty years ago! Visiting some cousins on a farm, one suggested he and I go out and shoot some cans. I was a pretty good aim for a first timer, I know it's pretty easy to hit a target with a shot gun but I still got most shots with the rifle too. Take that, cans!

Seeing as I spent the day cleaning my friends guns so his wife and I can go shooting tomorrow. It should be fun, nothing like taking some high end tactical weaponry for a girls day out. I showed her how to brake down the Ar15, G3, the pile of pistols and gave her a introductory course in Close Quarters Combat. Tomorrow is range day and basic boat CQB. She is extremley excited about it, and well so am I. I have missed teaching firearms. They have some legally owned silenced weapons I can not wait to try as well!!!
Next time I come to New Orleans we will be doing shotgun for the whole group. Now that is my bread and butter.

300 Savage w/7power leupold- this was my Grandpa's old rifle, great deer rifle
mini-14- first generation so it only shoots .223 and not 5.56mm floppy sights and floppy bolt. replaced my 30-30 for my "behind the seat rifle" I keep the cheap red-dot mounted on it
marlin semi auto .22- this use to be cheap to shoot... still fun though, great for teaching people
the-everyone-has-one-now AR-15 this has the basic goodies chrome bolt/barrel, flat top, m->-bleeped-<-ul furniture, I like the detachable carry handle for nostalgia's sake. I have the 4 power scope on it a lot of the time
XD-M 3.8 .45- this is normally inside the waistband on my right hip. 165gr hydra-shocks when I'm in town, 230gr+P hollow points when out and about
springfield "loaded" 1911 .45- my pretty pistol, match barrel tritium sights Hogue grips for my baseball mit hands
some guns I have lost due to usually really stupid, but sounded smart at the time reasons:
Winchester 30-30
M1 Garand match- (my brother all but stole this) it was issued to my dad's uncle, he was on the Marine Corps shooting team (1000yd match). My brother has found pictures of my great uncle holding this rifle standing next to next to Carlos Hathcock, cool sentimental value.
.38 special officer edition- we think this was "issued" to the same great uncle...
Winchester .270- shot well, great for hunting, boring to shoot, tags are hard to get in Nevada...
does the XM-218 >:-), the M-9, and the M-16 count as lost for dumb reasons? I was Marine Corps air-crew, they were what I was issued.
I'm buying an AR-15 with my settlement. Fun for the gun range.
I love this thread!
Mine:
Springfield XD-S .45ACP 3.3" (my CCW)
Springfield XD-M .45ACP 5.25" competition
S&W M&P15 sport 5.56NATO (just stock m->-bleeped-<-ul flip up sights, looking to get a scope)
Sig Sauer 1911-22 .22LR
Pics to come.

Hmmmmnn, let's see. Why do I own firearms. Well, it's kinda like this. If someone tries to rob or harm me and I had to defend myself, I wouldn't want to break a nail. Oh no, no nail breaking while dealing with lowlifes. They just aren't worth the hassle, lol! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Just a lil humor y'all, lol!

Why I own (and carry) firearms:
I don't like being a victim of violent crime. The firearm is a huge equalizer.
It's my right.
Shooting is fun.
It's stress release.
We have dangerous wild animals here, black bears in particular. One of them killed a hiker over the weekend in the woods up here. Bear spray works but a firearm is a good backup to have. I do not hunt and I don't like hunting. It's purely about personal defense for me.
As for the safety aspect:
Mine are either locked up or on me. Ammunition is stored separately, except one I keep ready for home protection.
I have taken many hours of training and I hold carry permits from several states. CCW permit holders are also statistically less likely to commit crime than the general citizenry.
I obey the four rules religiously - every gun is always loaded, finger off the trigger until ready to shoot, never aim at something you aren't willing to destroy, be sure of your target and what is behind it.
I often like to take new shooters to the range. Most of them like it. It is highly disciplined and safe.

Y'know Auntie Shan, we just had a fatal black bear attack up here. First in state history. I open carry a full size .45 with critical duty +P in the woods when I walk but I was told that may not stop a charging bear and that a .44 mag might be better. That seems a heck of a lot better than walking around with a 12 gauge slung over my shoulder.

I open carry a full size .45 with critical duty +P in the woods when I walk but I was told that may not stop a charging bear and that a .44 mag might be better. That seems a heck of a lot better than walking around with a 12 gauge slung over my shoulder.
Yes, I had an enlightening moment when backpacking with my son years ago and we came up on a tree with a small bear cub up in it bawling, I thought OMG where's Momma? We scurried up the trail quickly, it could have turned into a tragic moment for us both.
We might not have very many bear here, but we do every so often. More of what I worry about is getting between any momma and cub is a dangerous place to be. Moose, deer, and we have coyotes here something fierce. Though I suppose if there's more than 5 of them, I might as well start using it as a hammer or something
I unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) was forced to get rid of my rifles by my wife after my first suicide attempt (which involved one of them). I had a DPMS Panther Arms MP-4 AR-pattern riffle in 5.56 NATO with a grip-pod and a Lee-Enfield Model No. 4 conversion (converted from British .303 to 7.62 NATO in 1966 and the stock was later converted to a sport stock).
I miss them, but I understand the reason my wife made me sell them (at the time I had no idea I was trans, and that, with the resulting complications, explained almost everything that went wrong and led up to the attempt).
OK, I don't have mine yet but this is what I've decided upon:
For home defense and the range:
The Baretta M9; just a personal favorite:
http://www.beretta.com/en-us/m9/
For concealed carry:
The Springfield Armory XD-S 3.3" MODEL with a pinky extenstion:
http://www.springfield-armory.com/xd-s-series/
The 92F or FS is the civilian version of the M9. Decent gun. A friend of mind has it and I like it. It's standard issue for the marine corps.
The XDS is a nice gun for CCW. That's what I carry most of the time and I have it in .45. They have it in 9mm now too.
Smith Wesson .38 special snub nose w/hollow points for bedside and Kal Tek 22 for the purse (shes's perty!)
Highly considering a 995ts. From what I'm able to gather, it's a great value, and for what it is, it's only $230 brand new
Figured I'd update this one.
My EDC, OCing at home.

Fantastic ^_^
If anyone is up in the western mass area, the Springfield Armory Museum has an exhibit called "Springfield Armory goes Hollywood". They have several exhibits of guns, both real and props, from various movies. My personal favorite at the exhibit was the M1 Garand rifle that was used by Chief Brody (played by Roy Scheider) in the movie Jaws. At the end of the movie as the ship is sinking it was the rifle he was using to shoot at the air tank stuck in the sharks mouth. Smith & Wesson in Springfield also has a museum and there they have the guns used by Clint Eastwood in the Dirty Harry movies. In real life I have shot those guns, the S&W model 29 .44 magnum revolver (from the first 2 Dirty Harry movie) and the .44 automag (used in the movie Sudden Impact). They also have various smith and wesson guns used in other movies, including George C. Scotts revolver from the movie Patton.
On a more serious side, at the range today, a wonderful gentleman there let me shoot his world war 2 vintage Mosin Nagant. If anyone has seen the movie Enemy at the Gates, this was the exact same sniper rifle that was used by Jude Law when he played the character of the real life sniper Vasiliy Zaytsev. It has quite a kick to it, meaning recoil. Even at 100 yards, I was hitting steel targets and the rounds easily penetrated the 1/4 inch steel plates, it probably could have penetrated quite a bit more steel than that as well. Now I have to get one for myself. The rifle he let me try was made in 1942 and I can only think of the pivotal role in history that rifle played in defending Stalingrad or Moscow or in the final assault on Hitlers bunker. I personally love world war 2 history and it's probably why a rifle like that appeals to me.
A couple years ago my boss brought in an Arisaka and asked if anyone wanted to buy it. My buddy collects WWII stuff, so he took it. It turns out to be complete with the mum not ground off, it has the anti-aircraft sights, the cleaning rod, the bipod, the original leather sling, and the barrel was not cut off to fit in a duffle bag. I really like the old pieces like that.

Taurus 9mm and three inherited hunting rifles.
LOL..my Therapist asked my why I own a gun.
Mine seemed concerned but not overly.
9mm Hi Power Browning
SP101 4" 357 mag.
Taurus, snubby 357 mag, 5 shot
Imbel FN FAL .308
Remington LTR .308
2 M&P .223 AR-15 receivers, a project of mine, make one an M4, the other a regular M16A2
Mossberg 500 12 guage pump
Browning pump shotgun 12 guage
3 pump air rifles, .177 cal.
1 C02 pistol .177 cal.
Had a M1D Garand sniper rifle 30-06 springfield, 2 M91/30 Mosin Nagants and a M1944 Mosin Nagants, sold for immediate emergency cash and not enough room, also kinda hard to have an arsenal stashed in your apartment/storage place, with all the above weapons, LOL, but I did at one time, before my property purchase (dissembled, in literal hundreds of pieces, jig saw puzzle from hell for all of them, except one, LMAO).
Figure, there like gold, the value always goes up for some of them, and never disclosed them to my therapist, subject never comes up.
I like butterflies and 9mm "flowers."

Unfortunately, I did have a recent boating accident... ;)
I just got a Ruger LCP .380 it is very small, and it fits in my purse :P I just need to get my concealed carry again.
I was expecting ladies with buff biceps. I'm mildly disappointed
Don't own a firearm yet, not psychologically stable enough to trust myself with one. This may be a good place to ask for advice for when I can be trusted though.
I have muscular and neurological damage to my right hand from a freak accident that led to hospital staff having to dig glass out of a wound half an inch deep. My weight limit on that arm is about five pounds now - the wrist gives out in what I can only describe as an explosion of pain and stiffness if I exceed that amount. I'm not too bothered by it, being a leftie, but I know that most readily available semi-automatic handguns are right-hand eject, meaning that if I used one with my left hand, I'd get a smoking hot shell thrown out at me. Found that out the hard way with my dad's 1911 Combat Commander. I feel like I'm limited to revolvers, but even then I fire two-handed, so I have to watch the recoil to avoid injuring myself again. My question is, what's a good caliber for a revolver? One that I can use with one hand without any trouble if needed, but won't kick hard enough to hurt me if I use both hands? My dad and uncle suggested a .38 Special, but that's a bit...small...for my tastes. I was considering a .357, personally, but I don't really know - the only weapons I've ever used were a bolt-action .22 long rifle and the 1911 mentioned above. That .45 hurts, definitely.
A gun thread here ? I never expected to see that, but I love it !!
I tried to take some selfies with my guns, but wasn't able to get anything usable... here's a partial list though, will try to get some pics up soon...
I am an accomplished gunsmith, and have either built or modified virtually all of them:
4x AR-15 variants
MAK-90
FN-FAL
2x .357 Mags (Ruger and S&W)
4x .44 Mags (Ruger, S&W, Colt)
2x .45 ACP (both Colt Gold Cups)
3x 9mm (XD, PF-9, Beretta 92f)
.40 cal H&K USP
S&W .500 Magnum
Win mod 70 (7mm Mag)
Rem mod 700 (.30-06)
SAKO .22-250 (simply amazing)
2x Mossy 500 12g
Rem 870 12g
and many more... some antique Colts, etc... ;D
andlots more

I had a 9mm 1911 years ago, and it ejected shells directly to my forehead. No other semi-auto has done that, including 2 1911's in .45 I've owned. Neither of my Glocks do that, they eject about 90° to the right.
Revolvers, of course, do not eject, and tend to be lighter in case you have to use your off hand. I'd suggest a .38 because as long as you can shoot it without crippling pain, you would still be in the fight. With a stronger cartridge the pain from practice shooting may cause you to hesitate from using it when needed...or shooting more if needed. I know one can hot-load .38's beyond factory loads (factory is less than possible because the 38 was originally a black powder caliber, so there are older guns that are made for the lower pressures of BP...modern revolvers are a lot stronger.)
No pics at the moment, but I've got two Springfield XD-S pistols, an all black one in .45 and a bi-tone in 9mm. Couple of random shotguns and a scoped Ruger 10/22 takedown. :)
Hopefully the Springfield's will conceal nicely in girl clothes. They were pretty easy to hide as a guy. I'm pretty small framed and only 5'6".
One of the problems I have come across is the art of concealment for women. It's a tougher nut to crack than you might think. I keep thinking about getting a flash bang holster for the summer, but then I sit back and think, maybe not. This girl "faliaphotography" has a great youtube channel on conceal carry holsters and the problems that women face. There is also tactissy as well. She has a lot of great reviews on guns that are good for women. There are a lot of options for women clothing that help prevent printing. It just takes some studying. So far I have not gone all crazy on holsters and am keeping it simple for the time being.

I think I just got a little excited!
Korean M1 Garands are going to be imported by dealers soon, and here's the really good part - they will be priced as low as $220!
Wow!!!
However the bad news is that there will be no M1 Carbines, because supposedly they accept "high capacity" magazines.
Oh well, can't own one anyway, not as long as I live in NJ.

I've fired the Swedish AK4 (7,62x51) and it has a pretty nice kickback. You cannot fire it in auto, unless you're a giant. That's everything I ever fired with live ammo in my life.

Wow that's pretty amazing. There are some amazing military surplus guns washing up on american shores lately. I am currently thinking I want to get a Mosin Nagant just because, honestly, it's a cool looking rifle and an amazing piece of history. There are also Swiss K31 bolt action rifles and of course every eastern european version of the AK47. Mine comes from Romania :) The prices are pretty good too although the quality is lacking. Comparing the AK to the AR I know isn't fair, but the manufacturing quality of my Smith & Wesson branded rifle is light years ahead of what came out of eastern europe.
You should visit the Springfield Armory sometime if you want to know everything there is to know about an M1. You can see where Garand himself sat and designed the rifle that would bear his name.

I wanted to buy a mosin but never really got around to it. They are less than $200 though. One warning though, the recoil is pretty bad. But like that other famous soviet gun (the AK 47) they are tough as nails.

I went to the range on Sunday and a very nice gentleman let me try an assortment of his guns. The one I was the most interested in was his Mosin. He had an original sniper scope from WW2 complete with the hammer and sickle slightly worn but still visible printed on the scope. It was an amazing piece of history and to be able to hold it in my hands and actually fire it beats 100 days of staring through items behind glass at a museum. I ended up talking to him for a quite a while about the gun and it's possible history, since it was WW2 vintage. It does kick like a mule and he had a shoulder pad on it since the rifle has steel plate on the end of the stock. It was amazingly powerful for a rifle and has incredible range. I should wouldn't want to be downwind of that rifle, that's for sure. The AK is sloppy and the barrel wobble, the Mosin is definitely delivering power.

Omigod that was so true. It really made me laugh. I have seen people pay $600 for an AR and then proceed to put $1000+ of optics on it. In the end they have these $3k rifles that to be honest look a little silly. The thing that made me laugh the hardest is something I did right after bringing my AR home, still new mind you, and cleaning with the special oil and a special infused cleaning cloth.
I have a Mosinka, a 10-22, I used to have a handgun, but it was terrible for concealment and I needed money. I want to get a Ruger LC-9 when I am in better financial shape, and a semi auto IMI Galil eventually (I like firearms, but fixing the whole facial hair, voice, mannerisms, personal issues, hormonal issues, wrong genitalia thing is priority #1 for me.

I don't know. I am guessing you'd need to amend it with the ATF. I can't imagine it would be uncommon, since married women own NFA items too.

On an unrelated note, I have several US patents that I am listed as the inventor on, however, no one at my job knows this since they are in my old name :( It doesn't seem like names on patents are changeable and something I had to forgo when I transitioned.

Sounds a lot like Lynn Conway. She lost credit for her previous work because she went stealth after being fired from IBM for transitioning.
I bought a 9 mm sub mg. I really don't want to be more specific than that. Totally fun to shoot. It draws a lot of interest at any gun range, which gives me a chance to educate people on owning full auto weapons legally.
Value wise, it's more than doubled in value since I bought it.. MG's are a great investment.
And old friend of mine had a M60 he bought in the 70's for $1000 (ish). He sold it six months ago for $38000.

Don't bring a sword to a gun fight ;) In all seriousness though, when I took my concealed carry training, one thing they told me is that if I carry a gun then don't bother with a knife because I would be 8 times more likely to go to prison for using a knife than I would if I had used a gun. Seriously, this is direct from the mouth of the people who train cops at the police academy.
From what I have read and it may be hear say or prima facie, but the mere possession of a weapon has prevented a great many crimes without a shot being fired. Sometimes the idea that a criminal upon selecting a victim unwittingly selects an armed citizen who produces a weapon the criminal flees without a shot being fired. That would be my hopes and dreams if it ever came to my being the chosen victim and I would venture to say nearly all other armed citizens like myself in my country.

Actually my different guns have different purposes, as one size does not fit all. I won't carry a .22 or a 5.25" gun for example. But it's nice to have 15 rounds for home defense. It's cost prohibitive to practice with .45 so I use cheaper .22. An AR 15 rifle is good for long distance but can't be used for clay shooting etc etc.
Some people also collect historical weapons.
One popular competition now is 3 gun where you shoot a course using 3 guns, pistol, rifle and shot guns.

As someone involved in LE training in a past life, I can unfortunately confirm most LE training is horrible. I've even had to correct issues with SWAT cops that should have been trained better...
I always taught folks to carry a knife capable of being deployed one handed on the opposite side of your gun, so in a retention struggle your strong side can focus on the gun and weak side can go all stabby-stab. I bring this up because on the LE side at least, 90% of all gunfights start AND end as fistfights, partly because pistols suck at killing people and none of us focus on combatives as much as we should. The knife isn't your primary BTW, it's just there to assist with retention.
And street violence never comes out of nowhere. There's almost always pre assault indicators, grooming cues, etc. ECQC by Craig Douglas is an excellent class on managing close quarter contacts and combining combatives with gunfighting, and covers most of this.

Nope, I'm in the US and have a bunch of edge weapons ranging from 2" folders up to the Kikuri that is attached to my EDC/Get home bag. In my actual BOB I have like 3 knives (two assisted folders and one fixed) plus a tamohawk/entry tool.....I won't even get into how many SOG and Benchmade knives I also have stashed around my BOL's and the house, or have lost all together
I don't have any guns at the moment, but do want to eventually get a revolver of some kind, and a carbine.
Though somewhere I do have a twin wakizashi set that was hand crafted in Maui. More ornamental than anything, since sharpening them would take away the rustic look to them.
Just a heads up. The Obama administration is working on Federal Regulations that would prohibit gun purchases by any person who ever saw a psychiatrist or therapist. That means the most victimized sub-group of Americans, we transgender women and particularly trans women of color could no longer obtain guns or concealed carry permits for protection. The regulations will also make it illegal for me to hold my Federal Firearms License as a collector, and I'd be required to turn in my license and log book.
The regulations may be unconstitutional, but that doesn't mean the Department of Justice under Obama wouldn't push them through anyway.
There are many types of ball-and cap-guns that any person over 18 can purchase, but most people aren't trained to safely load a black powder rifle or pistol.
This strikes a nerve for me. Normally I'm for some control on gun availability, but this would be far to overreaching and should be stopped before it even has a chance to become law. Regardless it's probably unconstitutional anyway, but I don't want to take a chance of even having to see that play out. Ugh, over reaching government what will they think of next. Hugs

I hope he realizes that if he keeps pushing his luck with gun control, he will start a second civil war right?
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and TYRANTS"
The constitution gives me the right to own guns so when our government gets out of control, and crosses the line from patriots to tyrants, we the people have the power to eliminate them and start over fresh.
Silly me. I thought it was pictures with either really big or small biceps.

No pics at the moment, but I've got two Springfield XD-S pistols, an all black one in .45 and a bi-tone in 9mm.
Annnnnd, here they are! I think the bi-tone 9mm is my favorite. I've got an extended mag for it too like pictured on the black .45, but the shorter mag with the pinky-finger grip-extension prints less under my girl shirts, lol.

Well I got fooled, that was a big gigantic hoax.
>:(
Not exactly, a bill was just introduced into Congress which would allow the importation and collecting of Korean M1 Garand rifles:

Call your congress-person. I wasn't a milsurp fan but after trying a few, I am really liking it. Plus I love the history that comes with a rifle that was actually used by a soldier.

Nice.
I have the 7rd mag which I got free from the XDS recall. However for EDC I use the 5 rounder. I've been thinking of adding a pierce grip. The 7rd protrudes too much and the NYPD already have " X-Ray vision" so I try to keep it not printing. I mean it's no problem for me to carry in the city under HR218 but I've been hassled a few times and misgendered when they see my permit. I would rather just keep it deeply concealed.
