It is only a month away. Now I'm feeling a little nervous but excited. I'm all stocked up on things they want me to stock up on... My luggage is all packed... Yes I'm that excited... I go to Montreal 2 days before and I'll be staying at a bed and breakfast near the hospital... Then I'll be in the hospital for 3 night after surgery the 5 night at the recovery Centre. I'll be flying home October 20. Total of 10 days in Montreal. This is it for me :) so happy!

I emailed asking about progress evaluating my file, and they pretty much just said they'll tell me when they're done. And then they gave me my date the next day, so maybe poking them helped [emoji14]

I sent my files late April... I got an email with surgery date late June...
My referral was sent in at the end of April. Finally got everything that was needed in by July. Been waiting and waiting. I have been sent, and returned the patient questionnaire in July. I was told at the end of July, that I would be need to be patient and wait..........
Well, I did phone yesterday. I got the 'you have to wait for the email' answer. So, I gained no information and will just have to wait. I was told that they all were on holiday in August and are behind in processing.

im sure everything is fine... when i did my test... i asked my GP to check the result before giving it to them... i had to redo the urine analysis... then when i redid it... everything was fine and its good to be faxed to the clinic...

it's two weeks before i leave for MTL... im very excited... but for some reason I am having second thoughts... i dont wanna share the reason due to being afraid of being judge... i really hope that i am making the right decision for myself... i hope it's just fear talking... i told myself i would not have gone through all the steps that was required to get to this stage if i didnt want this... i want this... but there is this one thing thats making me have this second though... maybe i should postpone it to a later date... ill keep you guys and girls updated..
The way I made the decision was to remember how I felt as a male and that decided it. There was no way I ever wanted to go back to that. In your case, I suspect you may also have to look at your recent life and see if there is anything there that's worth holding on to. Doubt is common and nobody gets on the table 100% sure they are making the right decision. I know the first time I was 100% sure of my decision was as I was waking up from surgery. I hurt, I was blind and I wanted to go back to sleep but I knew it was the right decision.
I am having my consultation with brassard on oct 18th ( couldnt get appointment earlier because my 1 year date is on oct 8 th) . Im happy for you congratz. It'll be my turn in 2017 :)
Honestly I'm terrified, and I've been having doubts too... but I know this is the only path for me, and the sooner I get it the less I'll have to suffer. I'll never have kids of my own (I've never been able to afford to freeze material) and that's heartbreaking for me, but I've been fighting for this surgery for so long, the thought of delaying it again is unbearable to me :(

I bought a re-useable vaginal cream applicator... ill use this when im dilating to put lube inside the vagina...
ill ask the docotr as well if betadine is good to use when douching... and if antibacterial oitment are good to use for the surgical sites...

I knew this going in, but I'm even struggling with my recovery at times. I'm doing a little better now. But just the other day I had the feeling of not knowing what I was. I'm definitely not male down there, but I'm not feeling too female either. I've only had a few days where I can actually feel good about what I have now, and marvel over how normal everything is now. Today is one of the good days, I'm hoping it just gets better.
I don't regret nothing! I'm just not feeling like I thought I would. I do realize though that there's an end to the rainbow, I will get there sooner or later.
As far as the Betadine, I've been using it only once per day right after my morning dilation. It seems to help if I don't do it with the evening dilation. My concerns are a little different though, I may have an allergic reaction to it. Supposedly since I am allergic to shell fish, the same goes with iodine. I don't think this is the case but it has helped my recovery since only douching once a day with it.
I hope your thoughts are in a better place :) I only thought about what I was doing when I got on the airplane....oh and when I watched The Danish Girl on the plane. Not a good idea LOL
When I laid on the operating table I was very nervous, not so much for what I was about to do, more so for hoping the surgery would go ok and I would live. When I woke up in recovery I thanked God so much that I was alive, I then thanked him for what was done lol

Brassard actually requires antibiotic ointment on the incisions, but he has his own specific douche recommendations (it was vinegar when I was there, but I hear it's saline now).

I ended up being really grateful that Brassard had the week in the recovery residence, because that was prime time for questions like "what the hell is it SUPPOSED to look like?!"

it's awesome how we get to stay at the recovery centre 6 days after the surgery... 2 nights at the BnB 2 nights at the hospital and 6 days in the recovery :) thank you to Canadian Health Care

That's weird; I had 7 days in recovery, and so did my other friend who went last month. Maybe it depends on what day the surgery is. Six days is still plenty, anyway. I'm glad the Canadian healthcare will pay for recovery too, though. :) She and I both had to pay cash for Brassard, since we're not Canadian...

I'm still in pain 😕 Not sure if it's more or less than I should be. I'm still swollen, though not as much. My mound goe back and forth of projecting out then looking half normal. It's frustrating. I wish it could just go down. Everything is looking better and more normal, still concerned about how wide my vaginal opening is, but I'll give it time. Yes I'm doing sitz baths! They are the best! Always in the morning and at night if not feeling the best.
I'm writing more in my post if you want to read.
Sounds like you've done your homework. Good for you, just understand it will all still be so weird and uncommon once out of surgery. But because you have read up and studied, when the questionable moments happen you'll be like " aw that's what they were talking about" lol 😉

they shortened it... my friend told me they had 7 days as well at the recovery centre... only 10 days stay in MTL in total now

Thanks. I did speak to a women, Adrienne, I think, who really helpful when I phoned in June and July. She reviewed my file and let me know what I still needed to get in.

IT'S A WEEK AWAY AND ILL BE ON THE OPERATING TABLE GOING UNDER THE KNIFE!
tomorrow will be my last day of work and i took 6 weeks off... i hope it is enough... and from what i know... 2nd month is 3 dilation a day and 3rd month as well... i would work 11am to 7pm.... this would be a tight schedule for dilation... 6am 10am then right after work? or do i have to wake up early @ 3am then @ 9am then right after work? omg that would be hard... any1 here who went to work 6 weeks after then have to do 3 times dilation? what were your schedule that worked for you?
It is amazing how quickly time flys by! As for dilation? Don't know, but there have been a number of posts lately concerning similar concerns. I just checked the grsmontreal.com site and it suggests convalescence at home is 6 weeks. I would assume that it means that you could potentially go to work at that point. From what I have read, the schedule is more often a guide. should be able to work around work schedule.

That is wonderful! So exciting! How far before your surgery date did you have to have your lab test results in? Just planning ahead.

I have a great variety of feelings these days. I often feel very melancholy. I was very excited when my referral was sent in and even more so after my first conversations with the staff in Montreal. Waiting and not knowing the timeline is not helping. I jump every time a beep goes off on my phone!

Yes, I do know that I will need to wait for surgery. My reaction is partly due to the information I received in July.

I got the impression from Adrienne that once the referral made it through to the clinical nurse, I should hear from them in a few weeks (month). I realize that they had the summer holiday period in there. I guess I was just being hopeful. Adrienne did say that the surgery date would be six to eight months away from email date.

im thankful for this life... it's not an easy one... it has a lot of downs more than ups but Im thankful for the journey...
Im thankful for the best roomate i could ever have... shes helped me a lot and Im just happy to have her as my goodfriend... she'll be with me in montreal for my surgery...
im thankful for my brothers.... they support my life decisions even though I know it is hard for them... I love you bros...
Im thankful for my boyfriend... He's been an amazing boyfriend... Ive only been with him for 10 months but he's very good to me... he can handle my crazy fits when I have them... and i do have them a lot... he is also going to be with me in mortreal for my SRS...
Im thankful for my employers... they are very understanding... i came out to them early this year and told them ill be getting my srs... they are very supportive of it...
anyway thats alll for now.... 4 days to go till my SRS

Happy Thanksgiving! (I thought I had posted this already but didn't go through) What a Thanksgiving this is for you! Have a great trip to Montreal. It is wonderful that you will have friends with you there. I am very curious about the facilities and the B and B. We have been looking at the B and B site and like the looks of the rooms. Planning ahead, you know. Enjoy the next couple of days. Are there pre tests that you need to have done in Montreal?

Sometimes they will put you right at the recovery house if it is not full and skip the B&B. You won't know this info till they send you the letter. There shouldn't be any more tests once you are heading there. Just remember to try not to stuff yourself with all the food you see, because it will make your bowel movement post surgery quite challenging. Have plenty of fiber and prune juice post surgery to make everything easier. And good luck ladies 😊 you will treasure this moment for years to come, I know I did.

Anthing that will make you have to push is a big no no. If you don't remember ever having to push after poutine then I guess it is ok. It is the pushing that they don't want you to do because it can affect the stiches.

just finished breakfast...we had crepes with fruits... the bed and breakfast is huge.... the place is nice... the lady chantelle is very nice as well...I met 3 wonderful women... mamonoqueen included... and got 2 enemas for bowel prep today.. one @ 4pm and another one @ 8pm...
I hope you are having a wonderful time, the staff is amazing, listen to them and you will be bouncing back in no time.

So tonight... after dinner I was chatting having a few laughs with the 3 other girls who are getting the surgery tomorrow... we are all from different places different ages as well... I'm happy that we all get along... we have different views, lifestyles but we all have one thing in common... I think it's pretty cool... I'm a bit anxious now... not sure if I'll be able to sleep... my bf is here with me but he won't see me till afternoon... I'm scared... but I have wanted this and this is really happening... it's less than 12 hours away... maybe I'll go watch some Netflix or something

I still remember when I tried to walk the first time too. I felt dizzy and almosy fall down. Good thing the nurses were nearby and I don't think I am that light either.

I slept but my kept waking up when pain starts then I would take the pain meds then I would go back to sleep... they keep changing the pads cuz the ice was melting and I felt soaked.... but then when I woke up around 6am there was a lot of blood... it was so scary... took the max dose pain meds again so pain is manageable now... they changed the dressing, emptied the urine bag and the gp and now I'm eating breakfast... oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt... after breakfast they want us to walk around the clinic... wish me luck

Took some pain meds... dressing changed... Blood drainage is out the pee bag is out now I have a tube with a lever to pee out of...I'm able to change into civilian clothes and breakfast @ 8:30am then @ 9am they are wheeling me out to the recovery centre with my see through donut! And I took a pic of my lobster tail... it's fully cooked! Too bad I can't show it here but I posted it on my twitter...

One thing I'm not fond of at the moment is that feeling when your emptying your bladder it give you that sucking feeling and it's uncomfortable... they gave us stool softeners to make us poo but I don't have to go yet... been farting a lot tho...

That is one thing I didn't do, eat enough. But I was so tired.

They will ask you to fill a form on your dietary restriction before you head there. So no worries on being vegetarian.

Yea they ask you if you are allergic to anything and if you are vegetarian... one girl was allergic to mushroom so Florence made a totally different batch of sauce for her with no mushroom... the stairs are fine... in the clinic they make sure that you can walk freely on your own without getting dizzy... they'll make you do laps around the nurses station... one advice I can give you is communicate with the nurse... if you are in pain call the nurse ask for pain meds... don't wait till the pain is unbearable... the first night the pain will be unbearable... so ask the nurse right away for pain meds so it'll kick in and you won't have to feel the... I was the dumb one... I ask too late and once they give me the pain meds i was already in so much pain and the pain meds take awhile... so yea... communicate with the nurses... they are there to help you...

Anything I have ever found about Dr Brassard has been positive and people are happy with their results.
I have my paperwork waiting to be looked at by the clinical nurse there.

Hi Stephenie! Mine has been in since June. The file finally went to the nurse second week of August, just before their holiday. I phoned in September and again yesterday. Still waiting. I believe that my file is progressing through their system. I had expected to hear from them by now, after being told the same as you that it be in about a month. I guess 'a few weeks' is relative. Still excited and looking forward to having the surgery. I did get told that the surgery date would probably be six to eight months after decision is made.

The staff/nurses/nurses aide are fantastic... they are there to help you to make you feel comfortable... the first night of the surgery you have to communicate with them especially when it comes to pain... do not be afraid to tell them anything... they are there to make you feel comfortable... I'm waiting for the reveal on Sunday.... but the real result won't be at least in six months... but he said I have 6 inches depth so I'm gonna do my dilation properly so I keep that depth

Last night October 14 night time was a bit stressful... had miscommunication with one of the nurse... she said to me she was gonna give me sleeping pills at 11pm and pain meds at 10pm... she gave me pain meds but she didn't give me sleeping pills... so at around midnight I was wondering where she was... I phoned downstairs and they said it's past midnight they can't give me my sleeping pills... the stent and catheter is so uncomfortable I couldn't sleep... I exerted myself too much I think moving around finding a comfortable way to sleep... I finally asked for another pain meds at 5am I was able to. Sleep... woke up in a lot of pain for breakfast... I wasn't allowed to take any pain meds cuz I just took pain meds at 5am... I emptied my bladder ate my bfast in pain took other meds except pain meds and went back upstairs to sleep and put ice on my bits... miscommunication sucks... stress isn't good when you are healing...

Sorry to hear about your bad night! Hopefully you can clear up the communication with the nurse so that you can get a better sleep tonight. My experience with surgeries in general is that it is common to find one's self over exerting at first. Feeling the euphoria of completion and all. Then the pain hits. Pacing activity is important. Recovery will happen. I know that it is hard to harass the excitement. Many Hugs

Yay! I finally pooped tonight!
Nothing much happened today... but last night there was a miscommunication with me and one of the nurse... I asked for a sleeping pill she said she'll come up and bring it to me at 11pm and pain meds at 10pm... she's brought pain meds but not sleeping pill... when I noticed it was already midnight... I called downstairs and ask for my sleeping pill but they said I called too late and they have a protocol that they can't give out sleeping pill after midnight... so I didn't sleep last night... I was cranky hot cold I was pissed cuz I wanted to sleep... around 5am they gave me pain meds and I was able to sleep till breakfast... when I woke up I was in so much pain but couldn't give me pain meds because they just gave me some at 5am so I had to endure pain... when I peed... there was 2 blood clot that came out I got scared and asked the nurse... she said I might have tugged on the catheter last night and I might have exerted myself... 2nd worst night in Montreal... I just want this experience to be over...
On the bright side tomorrow after breakfast I get to see my vagina... and I got to ice it... lol it'll be all swollen..

Congratulations on pooping, that makes everything so much better. As for sleeping, at least you didn't have my room. I was finding it difficult sleeping because I was restricted to bed for 6 days and when you don't move around, you don't get very tired. I would struggle to get some sleep and just about the time I got an hour or so, somebody would decide to enter the room on the other side of the hall from me and start cleaning the metal bed pans. They made enough racket to wake half the hospital and they sure kept me awake. I think for those 6 nights I was getting about 2 hours of sleep a night.
It's funny in hind site but not real funny when you are going through it but I suspect in a few days, thing will start getting better.
Congratulations. I think it is great when a girl finally gets her ultimate desire.
Shooting pain around the clitoris
Area then it throbs... I can feel a lot of swelling when I woke up... and had to take pain meds for the shooting pain... had a good a goodnight sleep tho! Just waiting for bfast!

So after breakfast today... the dressing came off and I was finally able to shower... it looks pretty scary... the clit has a blood clot on it and it'll fall off on its own... put poly spirit and now I'm just icing it... nurse said that it's not a swollen... she said it looks right!

Make sure you keep up with your icing today or it will still swell up a lot! It's not a big deal if it swells though, just less comfortable

We only get three... #2 #3 #4 we start with #2 and #3 today... after breakfast we get our stent taken out...
I just woke up with pain... icing it now... gonna take pain meds before bfast so that when they take the stent out, it won't be as painful... wish me luck today

whats great is that through this thread you found yourselves going to the same surgeon and you were able to support each other! Thats so wonderful! when i had my surgery in London, England 20 some years ago, ( good god! lol ) I travelled alone but it was so nice upon arriving at the hospital, to meet a few others that were having their surgery too :)

Finally the catheter came out today... burning sensation... but I'm so glad that it's gone... now I have to write down how much I pee and what drank and what time I peed!
Busy day again today... 4x dilation, 2 vaginal douches one in the morning with the first dilation and last one with the last dilation... one sitz bath with the last dilation... and shower in the morning... lol I'm not sure if that made sense... just happy that I'm a free woman no more tubes stent and packing... one more day here at the recovery Centre and I'm back in Toronto Thursday morning...
Had a good night sleep... I asked for sleeping pill but I didn't need it... yay me! I woke up at 4am in pain cuz of the swelling... took some pain meds and started icing my bits... they said to ice 5 sides... the vaginal entrance... the clitoris area... the mound... and the two sides.... it helped a bit and dozed off... woke up for bfast and soon after I was called to get my catheter out! Wow only one day left? Time has rally gone by quickly. I am curious to see how 'peeing' goes. I, for some reason, am constantly thinking about this and how long it will take to get it right. It is so nice that you will have support when you get home.

Woke up today fresh... didn't even need a sleeping pill... I got my 8 hours of sleep... had bfast then 1st dilation... mr green was a little tight going in but it was successful after being patient... hurt a bit when applying light pressure but I had to keep it on the right depth... I don't wann lose any depth... then it was time for vaginal douche and shower... lunch... had salmon... now I'm icing and dilation number 2 @ 1pm... then just wipe the v entrance keep it dry.., air dry as much as possible... that's it for now

Here in the recovery centre we use the tub... we fill it with water and anti bacterial soap alcohol free and unscented... fill it up all the way to your incision lines and I sit in it for 10 minutes then I rinse... in the schedule it says 3 times a day

I dont have a tub at home only a shower stall.. that's why I had to buy the sitz bath tub thingy... I douche with salt water... but once I'm healed inside regular water is good...

Home sweet home! Did my first dilation at 5am cuz limo comes at 7am... flight was at 10am got home ate now I'm doing my 2nd dilation... I think sitz bath after this one... while I was posting on facebook I felt emotional I'm not sure why... I guess I was sad to say goodbye to the recovery centre lol... and back to reality.... bf picked me up had some make out session and yea... almost lost my wallet and started panicking... the trip home wasn't really that exciting... a lil uncomfortable but that's it

Most of us felt that way too, even if you seem to hate it on the first night lol.. but in the end that was the place that makes you feel reborn again. It will always have a special place in my mind for the rest of my life.

Update:
It is so hard to keep the bottom of the v dry... they say to keep it dry as much as possible but how if you have to dilate 4 times a day do sitz bath twice a day and vaginal douche twice a day and shower once a day... I air dry it as much as possible but it doesn't really help! Ugh so frustrating... oh the clot on the clitoris fell out... but the little gauze is still there meaning I can't see my clitoris still!

I think whats great is that you dont have to worry so much anymore when now , if you meet someone or have someone , feel free to be yourselves! One advantage i believe in BC is that breast augmentation is covered there but not in the rest of the country! I might be wrong but seems ive heard that?

BA is covered in BC but the wait list is long and also the criteria seems hard. Only if there's a very small or non existent growth then you will be covered (A or smaller) but most of us have bigger frames, so sometimes even a B cup is nothing much but will be denied.

Thats is sad and unrealistic, as you pointed out, bigger frames need a more appropriate cup size. Its really obvious when buying clothes , seems (for me anyways) I find something that fits well everywhere else but the front, its assumed (off the rack) that if you have a bigger frame you have boobs that match! I used to wear DD breast forms but decided to accept my Bs. I have a big frame but no one seems to notice.
I agree that it's a shame that off the rack is such a bother, but if you can sew or find someone that can alter you would be amazed at how it will look.

Here in Ontario BA are funded as well but jfrong is right... criteria is hard... a few provinces fund it... I know someone from I think she from Manitoba and she got hers done funded same with grs...

Breast augmentation is covered in Ontario. The requirements for coverage are quite simple. No breast growth for one year and during that same year a person must be on hormones. It has to be documented and I would recommend doing what I do. See your doctor who is in charge of your trans health care or you family doctor, either should be fine. Get them to measure you and then do so every 3 months there after until the records show no growth for a 12 month period. You could have this coincide with quarterly checkups. One you have the documented evidence you just have to get your doctor to write a letter saying you have no growth in a 12 month period while on hormones. Perhaps OHIP will want a hormone report as well but probably not. The process is much simpler than for gender surgery. You must have documented proof though and that would mean having someone else do it. I don't imagine OHIP will accept a person saying they have been measuring at home and keeping notes but you can do that too if it makes you feel better. It will be your doctors say so that will count with OHIP. It is not hard it just takes some time. If you have already gone a year or more with no development you could try to report this to your doctor and they might be ok with that in order to write the letter but most will probably want to do the documentation.

no breast growth from what though? you mean someone who's been on hormones but has never had much breast growth, similar to what we were saying about BC coverage, I manage ok but as I was saying the standards are too low not allowing that when your bigger frame you need s bigger size , which might not be covered. I transitioned 25 years ago and I reached a plateau after a few years but would like a more average size for my frame

They do surgeries at the same surgery center ( CMC, Centre Metropolitain de Chirurgie) thats why they will do surgeries 1 after the other ;p
it will be my 6th surgery with Bensimon, i love his natural work.
I live in Ottawa which is only about 2 hr drive and even quicker by rail! I know many that have been there for Dr,Brassard but Ive heard good thing about Dr.Bensimon, Its just getting a chance to get down there to have a consultation. He offered to give me one if I sent him full face and profile pics but he charges for the service while consultations in office are free

I wake up everyday since I came home with discharge... so fibrin keeps building up... I can't seem to get my vagina dry... and fibrin slows down healing and moisture will build up fibrin... I'm trying to do all my best to keep it as dry as possible

I started hormones again on Sunday October 23 2016... I haven't seen any changes in mood... before surgery... I never said this on here but I stopped hormones 9 months before... so I'm sure it's a shock on my body to suddenly cut off testosterone and a sudden change in estrogen level... but before I stopped estrogen I was on it non stop 9 years... started in 2006... I had my personal reason why I stopped it... anyway that's all for now... first dilation of the day was a bit tight but no pain... but the fibrin or where the area is always wet looks very nasty looking... but when I was washing myself... the skin didn't feel soft it felt like skin that was cut and sutured together...

It seems like I'm coming down with a cold... I feel cold and the swelling I can feel it today! I think I have pushed myself too hard today... I went to go see my family and did some errands... it says on the manual I can drive 2 weeks after surgery it's been 17 days now... I just took some T3 maybe that'll help and last dilation tonight hopefully it won't be painful... I missed my 1pm dilation so I added 10 minutes to my 4pm dilation.

All good indicators, checking your temperature regularly (i think i mentioned this in a past post) is a good way to see if your fighting a possible infection! It is sad to say that I am encountering my first ever complication... and it's making me feel very sad depressed and making me regret this surgery... I suspect a hypergranulation happening in the entrance of the vagina.... it is looking like an overgrowth tissues, it's red but not painful... I have called my doctor to set up an appointment for a silver nitrate treatment... I am really sad and depressed and I regret having the surgery now... I don't think it's worth it at all. Bye!

jujubes1986, Please hang in there. I hear this is a pretty common complication that eventually works out with treatments. Try to think about it as part of the journey with ups and downs. I am sure your life will be just fine with all the normal ups and downs of everyday life. Most of the girls I have talked to, that have had this happen, have said it was only a minor inconvenience that eventually heals quite well.

That is a super minor and expected issue; granulation is normal stage of wound healing, so all that happened is you're healing a little *too* well. :) Since it's not even painful, this should be a very quick treatment and then it will finish healing properly. Seriously, this is no more worth worrying about than having a hangnail get infected, in terms of "complications."

This is my understanding as well, that it's a common problem and is to be expected.
Hang in there. Good rest and continued treatment. You will be as good as the day you were born (actually better). We all have ups and downs. I won't tell you to not be depressed(hello kettle this is pot). However, remember to count your "blessings" every so often too.

I had it and had to go back for for treatment 2 or 3 times and the biggest pain of the whole process was the doctor was about half an hour drive away from me. It stung a little bit but the doctor was in and out so fast there was little discomfort in the treatment. A few visits to the doctor and all will be well so don't worry about it. Your surgery isn't ruined, it only needs a little touch up to heal properly. There will be no lasting issues with the surgery due to this.
I think just about everyone has an issue with this at one time or another in the healing process. I did and it was no big deal. Hugs girl and please don't let this get you down.

Granulation is probably the most common problem girls have after srs and the treatment is well known and easy to perform and give good results.
They said everything looks normal... it's not hypergranulation... it's just extra skin that's part of healing... she will look at it again in 2 weeks

Pain and discharge are my worst enemy right now... douching doesn't clear out all the lube inside and it comes out little by little... how am I supposed to keep my vagina dry all day long...

The vagina isn't supposed to be dry and douching should be limited to what the doctor requests. If you are using water based jelly, it should drip out in a few minutes. I tend to dilate and then do my normal morning getting ready routine which includes my shower. By the time I am done with my shower, everything has dripped out and I am good for the day. As you are still close to surgery, keep a good supply of feminine pads and change them regularly.
You're supposed to keep the external parts as dry as you can, but I think they know there's only so much you can do - remember to let it air-dry whenever possible. :)

Again at 5am... I woke up really sore... took another strong painkiller so I can go back to sleep... this happens almost every night... I'm thinking it's because the last ibuprofen I take is just before I do my last dilation... I'm 29 days post op now... I thought the pain would ease up a bit... I'm really getting tired of this...
Other than that... dilation is ok... I'm staying in the right depth... lastbdot is just at the entrance of the lips.... the granulation doesn't seem to be growing or it's not becoming hypergranulation... and there is some granulation where the hood/minora... oh and the hood/minora started bleeding a bit and it got really sensitive...

Doctor said that granulation is good and it's part of the healing process... it appears that there is no hypergranulation... they said to keep doing my routine until the wound heals :)

That is no good...do you add normal Panadol to your pain medication regime, it will boost the efficiency of most pain meds by up to 40%

Over the counter pain relief...you may have a different name paracetamol is the drug. It is a mild pain reliever but when combined with heavier drugs it increases their efficiency. Years of pain management experience have taught me th8is along with plenty of supporting medical evidence. So try you local chemist for some good old paracetamol.

Very common practice now in many Hospitals here and standard practice in any Pain Management situations to give this along with heavier narcotic type meds to improve there efficiency. Panadol doesn't make the drugs work any more than prescribed just makes them work better thereby giving better pain control.

In the United States, we are often given drugs like codeine and tylenol premixed as a prescription so taking tylenol separately isn't normally done.
As far as I can remember we were given extra strength tylenol and some other meds (antibiotics etc) at the recovery house. I wasn't on heavy pain meds and Tylenol was just enough for me.

Do not exceed 2000 mg/day of Tylenol. Definitely do not take Tylenol and alcohol together.

We have the milder pain meds also with the codeine paracetamol/Tylenol mix we buy over the counter at our pharmacy...With these milder pain meds that have Tylenol/paracetamol codeine mixed you certainly wouldn't take more of the same. ;)

I hope it is for ya. I hit the point where the discomfort increased a little resulting in my using ice again now. I have feeling it may come and go tell the pain is gone for good though. Something tells me your on the side of it getting less and less now. Fingers crossed. Hugs

You may have turned the cornier and be finally on the mend. Lets hope you get some relief soon. The constant nature of the pain becomes waring and makes anything in life difficult to deal with...sounds like you may be over the worst of it fingers crossed.

I didn't take my mortrin at midnight last night and that was not a good idea... at around 2am I was a little sore and opted to take narcotics... it helped me sleep a bit until 5am woke up sore again and by 6am took Motrin and I'm feeling a lot better again...

They weren't able to drain the whole thing... there's little pockets... and they don't wanna cut me too deep... and yea that's what they said... it has a 50/50 chance of coming back :(

I hope this doesn't set you back too far. I'm so sorry you are having these issues. Even under the best of circumstances it is not easy. Hang tough girl and get better as soon as you can.
Speaking for from my own experience and from those that have shared with me, its not unusual or unheard of to have some complications, its more a matter of how serious the complication are? often its just minor things (that are more troublesome than anything) to the more serious like internal problems! its certainly not you being unlucky or something! (those that havent and any issues at all, well good for you!) I had a friend that just recently had her surgery in Thailand and after her surgery she found that she had an incision between her colon and the vagina which was leaking fecal matter vaginally causing her a massive infection which she had to take antibiotics and a "cocktail of all sorts of medicine" (as she said) then have corrective surgery (this is one i've heard of before and it that happens here and there) maybe not so much with techniques like Dr.Brassard's which is the penile inversion but more like that of Dr.Chettawut for example. Myself, I had to return for corrective surgery 6 months or so after which was more so for an adjustment not so much bc of an healing complication but think of it, theres a lot of tissue thats stitched together in an area thats prone to infection. Im sure you know that Im not bringing this up to worry you further hun (you know that everyone including myself have been following your posts concerned for your well being while healing while wishing you a speedy recovery) but to just say that its not unheard of and actually is not uncommon to have a few problems and Im sure with the antibiotics that it will clear up (even if it needs to be drained again) and you'll keep moving forward but the important thing is that you went to see a doctor and not wait for it to get worse! Don't know if it's the same for this kind of infection, but when I had a tooth infection it took 2-3 days for the antibiotics to start working.

Yes antibiotics can take two or three days to help you feel better. However, if things start to get worse than they were before you may need to go back in regardless. Hugs

I went out again today! Missed a dilation but added 10 minutes to my next dilation... oh and I stopped doing the 3rd dilator for now... it was a bit painful

after time i lost them so i just bought a solid dildo lol a few years ago I found the solid glass ones , Icicles ,so called bc you can put them in ice water before using but I was just thinking how that would have been nice back when I was healing and sore there too [emoji51]

I haven't tried cooling them... I was gonna try but I didn't get the chance to...
Ok update on what's going on with my vulva... the infection wound is all dried up and the swelling is no more... I was able to sit for a long time yesterday... but I still did get sore... inside the hood... I can still see some sutures... and I still feel a little bit of soreness from the area as well... that area is always wet just like the entrance... but the entrance of the vulva is looking pretty good now as well... once all the wound is really healed I believe I am
Ok to shave the area..... I think that's how I contracted the infection... I tried to shave the area 2 weeks ago, I thought I was being careful but I might have touched the wound with the razor and bam! Infection!
I'm still doing 3 dilations but only with #2 and #3 and I do sitz bath before and after my first dilation... and only after my 2nd and 3rd dilations...
Yesterday I missed one dilation so I did a sitz bath before and after my last dilation as well as I added 10 more minutes on each dilators...
Thank you to whoever reads my updates... I hope that anyone who will go with dr brassard will have at least a knowledge of what is going to happen... everyone is different so not all my experience will happen to you... I was catching up with 7 of the girls o was there with... and none of them had an infection... only me what are the odds...some are still experiencing swelling and such but like I said everyone's experience is different.

Now that you know, I wouldn't shave right now! Plus grooming can wait till your less prone to starting another infection, I was always in aesthetics, I had done courses so I could work at my aunts beauty salon while I was at university and guess what I was doing? waxing! yaiii! lol so i got used to doing it for myself too , funny I feel uncomfortable using a razor anywhere down there!

yeah that seems pretty standard, even after surgery once home from England , i had trouble finding a doctor for do regular checks , My family doctor is able to check if i have an infection or something but in general it would be if I had a gyn. but I havent been able to find one that sees trans women for gyn care! most reactions i get is go back and see your original surgeon or surgeon that does grs if you want a check up? :(

This seems odd, because the anatomical structure after GCS and completion of recovery is very similar to that in a woman after a total abdominal hysterectomy. Yes, the origin of the tissues involved is slightly different, but in both cases the doctor is dealing with a vagina, no cervical tissue, uterus, or ovaries, and the medical issues are similar. Even in the recovery period, wound care for the tissues involved isn't terribly different from dealing with vaginal tears or perineotomy recovery.
There is likely a bit a a** covering and possibly transphobia at work here, alas.
I hope you do not give up looking, I am sure you can find someone.

I totally agree Michelle! These are exactly my reasons to keep insisting and I also reminded some of my right to access appropriate care as is available to other women , I am still trying , writing letters our govt. (the Ministry of Health) and I will keep looking! thank you for your post Michelle and encouragement Cure Bunny!

I also agree wholeheartedly, Michelle. My own GP said offhandedly that he sees patients in recovery from surgery all the time and also handles routine gyn care for many female patients, and so he had no problem taking a look whenever I needed it. His advice was always solid when he did, too. A GP isn't qualified to *perform* the surgery, but they darned well ought to be capable of dealing with the typical aftereffects - granulation, loose stitches, infection, etc. - regardless of what shape the new anatomy has been formed into.
I was also told I could get a referral to a gynecologist if I ever needed one, but so far I haven't.

I had my surgery back in 92, in London England, but Im from Ottawa, just a few hours from Montreal Canada. At the time it wasn't Dr.Brassard, it was Dr.Menard and he did not accept Ohip (Ontario health insurance plan) which is who covered my surgery but not the costs of travel or accommodations! I was in the Toronto Clarke's gender clinic program and once approved , I was sent over to England.
Once you have had your surgery, unless there surgical issues that need to be " adjusted" , you will never see your surgeon again nor should you have to if everything is ok , so its ridiculous to just leave you in a medical limbo in the years after your post op. I dont see why I should have to see a gcs surgeon when and if I might have some issues down there ? especially now that Im getting older bc like any other body part, im starting to need care for a few age related problems, they are the same issues most older women need to deal with and which gyns deal with and just for regular check ups to see if everything looks ok inside. So I would like to find a gyn to have regular care as I get older, So I asked my family doctor to refer me but the ones she knows did not want to see me as a patient, I sent a letter to our health care insurance OHIP, to say that this was unfair and discriminatory, I just sent the letter so ill keep you posted! xo Julie

Update:) dilating is getting a little bit easier now :) no more constant pain. I get sore here and there but unlike last month where I am just in pain constantly... the discharge is slowly becoming less and less... in a week I don't have to do any sitz bath! And I'll only be douching once a day! I tried exploring around the clitoris and I have sensations... I am afraid to do anything aggressive tho... don't wanna hurt anything... the vulva is looking nice... I think dr brassard is an artist... the only thing that is missing I think is the lack ok the labia minora... it doesn't have that clam look... oh well that's ok... the bf thinks it looks nice just need to shave it is all!

My scars used to be so pronounced, but they are barely noticeable now.
I think you are taking good steps to help the problem but I would ask your doctor if they can recommend anything.

the interesting thing about this procedures is that cosmetic aspects become more pronounced as things heal down and tighten up a bit and Im not too surprising if your getting some initial toughness and scarring where the incision is healing together and then it should soften back up once it heals more! I remember when I did my countdown... I started with 97 days and now I'm almost 2 months post op... dec 12 I'll be two months... meaning no more sitz bath!!!!

The scars changes everyday! As of right now... it is not pronounced and raised... but it's red... discharge is very little to none... the labia minora/hood is turning into a light pink... but inside still looks meaty lol... I still can't see my clitoris... not even sure if I have one... but when I touch the area is very sensitive... good sensitive...

i still cant believe that this day is gonna happen, with all the BS that i have gone through and really just my whole life wanting this sort of thing and only believing for a long time that it was just some sort of pipe dream, being fully a women and with my transistion and everything i know you guys know the feeling but its so hard to describe to people that dont know, i cant wipe this smile off my face,
the only thing i have left to do is pay them the 40 bucks and all should be good (which i am going to do next week when i get paid)
blood test should be all good i just did one and it was perfect so the new one i just did shouldn't be any difference

I too want to thank you jujubes for your pre and post surgery log. This has really given me a lot of insight into the process. Being able to follow you from your first post to this point, post surgery, has been a privilege. The two months! That is amazing. All the Best!
funny , when I think back the only thing I felt uneasy about was the stopping of my HRT but knowing it was to get the best possible outcome then it helped me keep my thoughts on the goal! :)

There are now therapies for keloid scars, been around for at least 15 years, I've seen some people get amazing results. So see if it passes naturally and know there's a solution if not :-).
Update: my mon pubis is starting to really itch... it was numb before but now it's itchy... just above where the incision ends

Question:! I know it's a bit too early for this but i tried playing with myself but I can't seem to climax... I tried watching porn while doing it but nothing... it feels good but then it goes away and it's gone I have to do it all over again but then I'm tired... Getting a climax is a two step process. First you need foreplay which if you have a companion would involved cresting and massaging you where it feels good but not in the lower regions. If you don't have a companion, you need to visualize this happening. At some point, you will feel a warm glow over your entire body. At that point you are ready to move to the lower regions and bring yourself to a climax. I haven't looked but there may be some youtube videos discussing the process for a CIS woman. As you hormone balance and body is now feminine, it's more difficult to reach a climax but it's now a whole body experience instead of a localized feeling.

Ok update!!!! So on Monday December 19 2016 I dilated only once cuz I had to meet up with some friends... the next morning when I dilated... it was really tight! Since then my discharge is back to being light pink :( I think I hurt something inside when I dilated... that means, I'm still doing my sitz bath once a day and using saline water to douche.... the vulva looks healed.... inside around the urethra I have a bit of granulation.... I'm not really sure but it's red and it looks like extra skin/tissue... I'm not too worried about it... I'm reaching right depth still which is good.... but the dilation after I missed one wAs hard to get to the right depth and I think I pushed a bit too hard... anyway that's all for now!

I think I'm getting hypergranulation in the bottom of the v... inside the vagina... it's sore and hard to the touch... I'm gonna do my sitz bath twice again with sea salt... until it goes away!!!!

I'm new here (like 3 minutes), and read about the hyper granulation. I had that once, but a visit to my family doctor cleared it up. Dr. Brassard recommended doing that first...your doctor will know what to do.
I had my surgery in 2014 with Brassard. Amazing experience, wonderful man, and staff there in Montreal is top notch.
If I could offer any advice, try to stick to your dilation schedule as much as possible. Gosh, those first few weeks, seemed all I did was dilate, bath, shower.
Now it's just one dilation a week. Time will fly!!

Aesthetic wise I like the look of it... the only thing is that I don't have a minora... but cis female gets this surgery called Barbie surgery where they cut the minora... and the result pretty much look like what I have no minora... I am very happy with Brassard as well. In my case I do have a minora, but it is some what small. Which is true for some cis women, so I am not worried about it.
Well im glad things worked ok lol it can take up to a year before things are set as they will always be, might still be some cosmetic details buts its true that some cis women find theirs too big so it works out well for us! after about six months are so after mine , I asked a close cis friend to have look , see what she thought? she said its the prettiest she had seen! lol I guess that meant that things were in symmetry and had nice proportions! lol

I'm 31 days out and I'm scared out of my mind but still excited at the same time. I lived 33 years with the shenis and that was 33 years too long so it still has to be done no matter how scared I get

That's so awesome to hear! I'm glad you got to it and wishing many happy returns :-)
Its understandable that you would be scared, theres a lot to consider (it is surgery after all! When I was transitioning in the early 90s, our only access to surgery was through the infamous "gate keeper" system of psychiatrists who (in their opinion) saw wanting surgery as a criteria for diagnosis and they wouldn't help you if you weren't diagnosed so that meant no letter for HRT ect..
You sometimes heard of some trans women regretting having had surgery , I dont think that it was necessarily bc they didn't want to have surgery along the way but that they just might have not been ready yet especially under the stringent standards we were asked to do.
Standards for surgery approval was displaying of symptoms of GD and then 2 years of living as a woman (often without hormones) which meant gainful employment or student at a college in order to be approved!
Its great that now it much more a choice opposed to a criteria so one can choose when they feel they want to go ahead with it! I was clear about wanting my surgery as long as I can remember, even though it might be an issue when contemplating sexual relations or naked at the gym or locker rooms ect. , in general its not something others see so its ultimately something that we do for ourselves bc its feels right for us!

Sure, things are pretty solid by then but personally I find intercourse a bit more forceful than using a dildo (in the missionary position that is) bc of the weight and friction on you opposed to just the penetration inside! not quite sure what Jujubes was doing? lol Im too embarrassed to ask! hehe,

Whats interesting i think is that its recommended that we should be at a certain weight when you have surgery, i think just to be in better health for the process but as I gained weight a few years ago I noticed how it changed things down there too! lol The most disturbing to me was mons pubis! see what you think of this ?

I felt the same way, all the way up to when they came to my room to get me. But when the nurse came in and asked "are you ready" my fear left me, and a calm fell over me, and my mind went quiet. Yes, I had been ready all my life, and at that moment, I knew my real life was upon me.
I went back to Montréal a few months ago for a few revisions, and when I was sitting in the little closet they put you in while filling out your releases and such, I suddenly burst into tears. The nice French nurse looked at me and asked me if I was scared, and I said "no, I am not frightened, I am overwhelmed with joy because I remember how much my life sucked before I sat in this chair the last time I came here. This is like coming home, this where I was born, this is where my real life began"
She asked in broken english "so, you happy?"...
"OMG, yes, my life has been sooo wonderful since my surgery"...
"Good", she says, "that's why we do what we do. You are happy then I am happy"...
I wasn't so pleased to have my revisions done while wide awake, omg, but i again knew it needed to happen, so I cried as quietly as I could and tried to be brave. Another sweet French nurse held my hand and we hummed christmas tunes together to take my mind off the work being done between my legs...
The revision went well, my scar was totally resected, and the new scar lays flat and is healing very nicely. I can even pee most of the time without it going all over my legs now, too. Yay!
We do these things because the options are so much worse. As a result, we are rewarded with a new lease on life.
Be brave, you are worth it!

My bf was really big, too, and I let him bang me 32 days post-op, he'd been waiting 9 months, and he had no idea I was hiding my old bits down there all along. The goof never even noticed the stitches, inside or out, lol. I do NOT recommend doing what I did, either, but I could not wait another second to have him inside me. Nope, it had to be done, lol. I felt the same way, all the way up to when they came to my room to get me. But when the nurse came in and asked "are you ready" my fear left me, and a calm fell over me, and my mind went quiet. Yes, I had been ready all my life, and at that moment, I knew my real life was upon me.
I went back to Montréal a few months ago for a few revisions, and when I was sitting in the little closet they put you in while filling out your releases and such, I suddenly burst into tears. The nice French nurse looked at me and asked me if I was scared, and I said "no, I am not frightened, I am overwhelmed with joy because I remember how much my life sucked before I sat in this chair the last time I came here. This is like coming home, this where I was born, this is where my real life began"
She asked in broken english "so, you happy?"...
"OMG, yes, my life has been sooo wonderful since my surgery"...
"Good", she says, "that's why we do what we do. You are happy then I am happy"...
I wasn't so pleased to have my revisions done while wide awake, omg, but i again knew it needed to happen, so I cried as quietly as I could and tried to be brave. Another sweet French nurse held my hand and we hummed christmas tunes together to take my mind off the work being done between my legs...
The revision went well, my scar was totally resected, and the new scar lays flat and is healing very nicely. I can even pee most of the time without it going all over my legs now, too. Yay!
We do these things because the options are so much worse. As a result, we are rewarded with a new lease on life.
Be brave, you are worth it!

Yes, there is another journey beyond that surgical miracle, and it was a LOT of work during those first three months post-op, and I did underestimate how much time and maintenance that recovery entailed. I am fortunate that I had my two sisters available to scrub and sterilize my tub four times a day, and to shop for me, and to make me meals, and to buy me lube and pads and wipes and so many other things..
I am sooo very lucky, in so many ways.
We live in amazing times, we really do, and Dr. Brassard and Dr. Belanger are two very special people. They gave me my life back. For that, I will always feel a HUGE debt of gratitude.
To those that come after me, enjoy the ride, this is one very special trip.

Because I didn't choose to go under fully with general anesthesia, I was never nauseated and my appetite was strong. The other girls were green and had a hard time eating and holding food and fluids down, which slowed their recoveries down a lot. I am not a doctor, but they did inform us all that this was to be expected, so I chose the spinal blocker, and I am glad I did. Just sayin', cuz I was up and out of bed right away, and I felt great really quickly. My first day after surgery I completed 50 trips around the nurse's station, many girls struggled with even a few, some couldn't do any more than the required minimum the whole time before we were transferred to the recovery house next door.
Can't say what others should do, but that was my experience, for what it is worth..

Congrats on your surgery and getting down to two dilations a day! Geez, those dilations sure are intrusive and time-consuimg, aren't they? I hadn't really done the math before surgery, I had tunnel-vision about just getting to Montréal, lol, so when I got home, and started the 4 a day thing, it seemed that by the time I was done with everything necessary for one dilation session, it was time to start the next. I didn't sleep very well in those days, despite the pain-killers and exhaustion, nope...
Hang on, just another three months and you'll be down to once a day, then another six months, and you are home-free! ;D

With brassard u r advised to do 3x/day till month 4. But that is just an advice, if you are well enough with 2 and not losing depth then it should be ok. U might void the warranty though if not following the manufacturer suggestions lol.

U need to have several hours in between dilation though. I personally think if you are not losing any depth then u can go down to 2 but be very very strict (no skipping) about it until end of month 6.

Brassard told me that if I had to skip a dilation for some unavoidable reason, to be sure to extend the time I dilated in my other dilation sessions accordingly...

The header "Months 4-6," you know it's the dilation schedule below it, not above it?
You dilate once in the morning (#3 and #4 dilaor) and repeat again in the evening. That works out to two sessions a day

Yea I feel a lot better :) I still feel the random tenderness here and there... and I'm still using all three dilator when dilating even when the book says use only green and orange... it's very tight and the tightness causes a bit of pain but pain is tolerable...

Another Brassard patient - my inner labia seem normal (thinner than my wife's). My outer labia are fairly puffy, but I recently ran across someone complaining that most GRS results show outer labia that are not puffy *enough,* so now I figure that my sense of aesthetics just differs from hers rather than this being an actual failing. :) My inner labia are also mucosal on the inside portion, so it may be that Brassard's technique has changed a bit since 2005. I have a similar result, with puffy outer lips and thickish inner lips. I have seen such a look on cis women before, though I would have loved a 'porn star' look, instead, but that can be achieved with a labiopasty somewhere down the road, if I ever feel the need. For me, I was looking for a natural look, but with the least amount of stitch work, so as to not disrupt the sensations in the area unnecessarily. My sensation is better than I hoped, the look is plenty realistic, and I lubricate very well. I quit using lube while dilating in month four. I have had internal orgasms from day 11 onward, and I started having clitoral orgasms pretty easily after I had my first one at 6 months. Orgasm is pretty routine for me now, as long as I am warm, calm, happy, and thinking about giving myself to somebody I love, or at least, lust after, ha ha!
I did have a revision, my V scar did not heal well, and I didn't pee straight, and I wanted a more pronounced clitoral hood. My original clitoral hood was repurposed into a neo-scrotum as an infant, long story, ugh, and my neo-phallus was circumsized to look like a real penis, so there just wasn't much tissue there to work with. Dre. Belanger did my revision, and also improved the symmetry to my vagina in the process. The new scars are healing far faster than the old ones, with no pinched painful places, and they already lie flat, only 3 months later. I was born female, and that area was always very, very sensitive, and not like a cis male's skin in that region at all, more like baby skin than man skin, for sure. I don't know how one can have such a surgery without leaving a visible scar, but my feeling now is that I couldn't really ask for a less obvious set than I currently have. I like my pubic hair, it has always grown in a cis female pattern, and it is already long enough to hide my scars, even though they are still reddish in a lot of places. About 40% of the V scar is almost indistinguishable from the surrounding skin. Maybe I am lucky that I have very fair skin, only porcelain skin is lighter than mine, so the scars blend in easily.
I am also now thinking of my vagina like any cis woman does, yes it is great, but hmm, if I could, I would like this or that different, but do I need it improved? No, I need other things improved above my neck waaay before I would consider spending a dime on any changes down there. Plus, I want more time with it pain-free, lol, it has only been 2 years since the reconstruction, and I just want to enjoy her now, lol..

Dre. Belanger does amazing stitch work, my revised scars are about 1/3 the width of the original ones, so you might consider a consult about a revision if you are unhappy with yours as they are. I don't think she was working with Brassard in 2005, so maybe you might be able to get a much better result now. I dunno, just a thought..

She is his partner, they work together on the GRS patients, that's how they get done in less than two hours. I think she is the default surgeon for revisions, nowadays, actually. So, no, Brassard wouldn't have any issue at all, hun, I think it was his idea to do things that way. Her stitch work was a great addition to his practice, and one of the very reasons he took her on, at least that was the rumor in the recovery residence when I was there. I dunno, but she made big improvements to my cootchie in less than 30 minutes, and there was a lot to attend to, soo, yeah, give Suzanne in the office a call, and see what she says, you are the client, what you want is what you should get, ya know?

I don't know what their official policy is, but my original surgery was January 2015, and I had been keeping them abreast of the issues that concerned me all along. My inability to produce a solid urine stream was probably the main reason they agreed to revise my surgery, as well as a large lump of unresolved scar tissue on the upper right side where the suture knot was located. The agreement was that they would do the revision for free, but I would have to cover the cost of the operating room, which was about $750 Canadian. When I spoke with Dre. Belanger, right before surgery, I also pointed out where a few sutures would improve my clitoral hood, and she agreed. She took a closer look once I was on the table, and I was surprised when she decided to just go ahead and resect the entire V scar, and also remove some extra tissue from my right side, which had remained a bit puffier after surgery. The result was a much tidier appearance and a very nice symmetrical look, as well. My clitoral hood is better, but not as full as I would like, and though I can pee without getting it on me, I am hoping in time it will get even better. Another nice part about having the whole V scar resected is that I had a couple of spots along the scar that still gave me tiny sharp pains, but the new scar has no such issues at all. She went above and beyond what I asked for, and gave me about 85% of a perfect result. For a one-step surgery, with no secondary labiaplasty, I am very, very happy. My genital area was chopped up as an infant, my urethra was moved once already, and my vagina sewn shut, and my original labia were excised, plus my tissues are not exactly like a bio-male's tissues, so, I can't say how much of what I experienced was unique to me, or just the way such things go. They were operating on a past surgical site, with buried scarring, not virgin tissue, so as I say, my experience may be just my own..

Yeah, my clit was still numb at about five months, then it seemed like the swelling went down enough for 'yummy' messages to reach my brain. Do you still get the electric zaps and occasional pain twinges? If so, that is your nerves reconnecting and forming new connections, as the healing process continues. I had a HUGE set of zaps about half-way through my 5th month, and that seemed to be the big connection I was needing to get full-on ladywood and find the 'magic spot' that took me into toe-curling territory..
Be patient, explore the area gently, and try to focus on just enjoying the sensations without worrying yourself. Worry has ruined more female orgasms than any ham-fisted man ever could, lol..
My scars were very obvious until about a year, it takes time, hun...

Yeah, he had a habit of making me feel bad about myself even before that fateful day. Just before he went downtown on me I had blurted out "i love you" for the first time after he made me orgasm during intercourse. After he spotted my scars, I started crying, and said "I told you I had been mutilated as a baby", but he wouldn't let it go. He says "Didn't your parents take you to the hospital? Who mutilated you?". Well, I had just fallen in love with the big goof, so I cried my eyes out for a while, then told him all about being mis-gendered, reassigned, and being raised as a boy, the whole story came out of me, and he listened and comforted me, but then he started saying things like, "yeah, I noticed your shoulders were kinda wide, now I know why"...crap like that, and within a half hour I was getting cleaned up and he was taking me home. He decided it was too much for him, then we tried the friends with benefits thing, which amounted to him coming over for a booty call one time after he was stood up for a date by another woman, and just last week he emailed me that he was "pursuing another woman" near his home, and he "hoped I was okay"... Grrrrrr!!! So, the heck with him, though he was a hunk, omg, but still, soooo bad for me and my self-esteem. We really got along great, too, except for him being dense about a woman's feelings...

If you are using it for sex, it could be the remnants from past encounters. If not, you might want to get it checked out. We can get yeast infections and I had one while I was still healing.

I have the wetness issue. For me it was urine getting stuck in my vagina. I solved the issue by reaching around and slightly pulling my labia majora aside and the rest would come out. If I do not do that, then I would leak out onto my liner and that would smell like urine. If it smells like anything else, you might have an infection.
Douching to often can prevent the good bacteria from gaining a foot hold and the bad surviving. I last douched while I was still healing from surgery and my dilator comes out smelling like the lubricating jelly. This is with dilating once a week so any odor would have plenty of time to accumulate. Again, discuss this with a doctor because I don't know the state of your healing or if you are having issues.
Ideally the vagina is protected by lactobacillus, eat lots of yoghurt and / or consider douching with diluted yoghurt are suggestions I've seen. There's a Susan's thread on it, I don't have a link but it's recent.

The average depth of a woman's vagina appears to be about 4.5 inches. You need time to let things heal. You could try and contact Dr. Brassard. Estrogen helps with making vagina less dry, thus less painful intercourse. Are you dilating regularly and following instructions to a tee?

Hun don't say stuff like that it makes us worry about you. And have you tried dialating before intercourse? I heard that helps a lot. But just be patient things will come your still in your first year. Things generally aren't normal till after a year post op. Hang in there Hun [emoji8]

My doctor has me showering every day and cleaning the vaginal area with soap and water. I have to dry pack to help remove the dead surface skin 0 to 1.5 inches into the vaginal canal. It is working slowly and pink skin is showing on areas (bacteria loved the dead skin), She also has me using hydrocortisone cream 2 times a day. The cream helps loosen the scar tissue around the vagina rim and if needed esterase cream will be prescribed.
I drink a smoothie with greens (kale, dandelion, Swiss chard and parsley), berries, carrots, live yogurt, blue green algae and protein powder and banana several times a week.
I have no doubt that you are frustrated and have regrets about your surgery. This is not uncommon. You are, as I said earlier, a strong woman! The issues that come up post surgery of any kind vary person to person. I know that it is very difficult for you now, wanting to pursue a physical relationship and all. As difficult as it seems now, it is critical that you keep a positive view of your future in recovery. Our bodies can respond negatively in relationship to our emotional state. I have seen this in my counselling clients during the time that I practiced. I am continuing to send you positive thoughts! Many hugs! Kelly

That is great! I am coming up to four weeks on Monday. Swelling is less. I am looking forward to cutting out one dilation as of this Wednesday! Living on a schedule is causing us stress!
OH wow it's been 10 months already... how is everyone doing?
Hope all is going well for you! I am coming up on 5 months and things are going well. Still have some puffiness. I hope this goes away. Sometimes I feel it when I am walking. Peeing is still an issue for me. I still have the nozzle effect and am getting sprayed too often! Dilations are good and I am looking forward to one a days as of Oct 10th.
Otherwise? My relationship with my partner is strained and I find myself being very lonely way too often.

I have been wondering how you are doing. I remember reading about your early on difficulties. Could you update on how things are at 10 months. I had my surgery in late June. Hope all is well.

It's been 13 months now... everything is pretty much really healed... I got lazy with dilation tho about 9 months in... I was supposed to dilate everyday but I would do it like every 3 days... and I think that's how I lost depth... I think I'm like 3.5 inches now... I was 4.5 inches or 4 inches before... it sucks but it's my fault... now I dilate everyday to see if I can gain it back... and I just started dilating with just orange... it's tight but it loosens up quickly but he's just the depth I'm concerned with... dr brassard is good you just need to do your dilation...
Great news! I'd lost some depth around 3-4 months in due to not being very forceful with the dilators - I was concerned above doing damage, probably for no reason.
For a month now I've been pressing quite hard and have regained one dot worth of depth so it definitely can be done. The neovagina cavity is created by "blunt dissection" essentially the surgeon uses fingers to open the space. I'm hopeful I can gain another cm or two.
Like Sadie stated, I too lost a couple dots around months 3 and 4 when everything started to tighten up. I ended up going back to #2 because it allowed me to push further. I probably regained another dot which is now 3rd on the dilators. I believe the other 4th dot was just an illusion from the swelling and as it settled appeared as if I lost one. Anyhow, try #2 again and see how it works out.

Question! I measure the depth from the entrance of the vaginal canal not where the labia majora starts... am I measuring it right? Cuz from where the majora starts to the vaginal canal I think that's 1 inch already... I'm confuse
I tend to look at the entrance of the canal. I check to see if I can see the dot! It I can, and I am on the last dot, I push a little harder. So far, still maintaining depth with all dots in. I would imagine that labia thickness varies so we would need to consider the canal approach. As for me, I still seem to be a bit puffy so mine are thicker. I suspect that this may be the case with cis women as well.
