What's the mark of honesty again?  Is it an asterisk?  Anyway, you most definitely look female in that picture.  Most definitely. *

I have recommendations in terms of your selfie taking. Try to prop your device somewhere and put the camera on a timer and stand in front of the camera so that you can get a better body shot of yourself without having to hold your device up to a mirror like that. Then try getting a close up of your face by using the device's front facing camera (if it has one). From the pictures you took, you look a bit stressed in them. Try looking more relaxed and natural before you take your selfies, they will turn out much better that way.

Athena,
Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I suppose I look a little uncomfortable in a couple of those. The grin is definitely forced, though I still rather like the first two pics, at least. Besides my photo skills, whatcha think?

Hmm...it's hard to say, since my first thought is that your face looks a bit masculine, but since I can't surmise exactly what it is, I have to assume that it's just my imagination. You have a very slim figure that will probably make it very hard for people to see you as male :)

Thanks for the thoughts, River (or should I say Sweetie?). I'm really hoping that the masculine you picked up had to do mostly with the eyebrows and hair length. Also, due to nocturnal teeth grinding (yet another dysphoria-stress-related behavior), my jaw muscles are prominent; hopefully HRT will put an end to the teeth-grinding, and melt those muscles away.

And thanks for the comment about my figure- I'm really happy with it, especially since I came across an old, heavy picture of me the other day (ugh). I really thought the width of my shoulders would be a problem, but even pre-HRT they look okay, don't they?

If it comes to you, River, where the masculine impression is stemming from, I'd be very grateful to know so that I can try to correct. Thanks.

This was just a trial-run, and that is literally my only girl shirt. I'll try again soon, once my hair has grown more (it's thick and grows incredibly fast), I've got something better to wear, and I've figured  out something about makeup.

Teg,
You'll do fine.  I've already told you that you are beautiful, well you're pretty darn cute too.  Here are the obvious tells.
You'll need to do some eyebrow shaping,
If you're going to wear a tee shirt, ditch the arm hair.
Buy some breast forms, but don't get carried away and go for super busty.  We aren't trying to attract attention, at least not at first.

OK so the first time you go out if you have a cis-girlfriend you can go with you will have an absolute blast.  Best not to go alone, it is just too scary.  You'll eventually need to work on your voice, you sound like an English teacher.  But for now be the amazing girl you have inside.

Love You Lots,
Julie

Hi Julie, thanks for your opinion- your thoughts mean a lot to me. Of course, the arm hair will need to go, and the eyebrows need a major overhaul. I've got a family portrait coming up in a week, though, and I intend to be my parents' son in it, so yeah... Certain things need to wait.

As far as breast forms, I never intended to present as super-busty, but thanks for the note. I like the idea of a respectable size, but not overkill. Besides, I think breast forms and dressing out are still a long way away for me.

As for the voice, it's something I'm working on. My range is pretty decent to begin with (you haven't heard my attempt at speaking femme yet, Julie. It mosty only comes out in my therapy sessions these days, tbh). I'm going to practice through the Summer. I even got a DVD and CD to help with that. And if I go full-transition, I wouldn't be opposed to a trip to Yeson at some point.

Just curious, though. I "sound like an English teacher"? Elucidate, if you please. What's an English teacher sound like? :)

Thanks, ladies. If anyone else would like to chime in, I'd be really grateful.

Cheers,
Tegan

I think I could give you better advice given that your pictures look more natural and less forced. Id'e love to give you some advice after you take some more pictures :)

Wow, Athena, photo snob much? Lol

I'll give it another shot soon.

Btw, for the record, that smirk isn't me being uncomfortable; it's me being me.

Yay reference!

I actually have the same jaw muscle problem. I grind my teeth a lot (but unfortunately it's not limited to while I'm sleeping), and I've got some seriously obvious muscles to show for it. But that's something that hormones are known to fix, so I don't think we'll have a problem with it once we start up on HRT :)

Sorry :(

I didn't mean to be rude or offend. I just like to see people in the best shots possible because photos that are even a bit off could skew my judgement of someone and I don't want to misjudge someones appearance. I'm a bit of a perfectionist  ;)

BTW, I think that smirk is adorable :)

Not offended, Athena, just playing. That's what the lol was for!

Thanks, I like my smirk, too.

I'm not too concerned if I "pass" because I go out every day whether it be work or elsewhere dressed as the woman I know I am. This is kind of just an update on my appearance after almost two months on hormones and wondering what people think. My 3DS can no longer detect my face as male so I think I am going in the right direction.  :D

Please only give me constructive feedback and no empty compliments please. :)

UPDATE:

Thought I would add this picture as a comparison. This is what I looked like a year before hormones.

As a woman, how old does my face look? I wont be offended if the age is higher than what I really am. I'm just really curious. I'm 22 BTW.

Hmm.. I'm not too good with age, but I'd say you look around your age... maybe a bit older, not over 27 though. I think it is just the picture/angle, really. Perhaps the haircut?? (which is totally cute, btw!)

You look your age, Athena. Of course, hair and style really inform your perceived age just as much as your features, so you might want to play around with those things. 22 is the age for doing that, anyway! Experiment, and have some fun.

Cheers,
Teg

P.S. I'd have guessed 25 at the oldest, FYI.

so here I am, finally working up the courage to post here.

Sadly I only have 'boy mode' pics; I'm not *completely* 'out' yet

Also I apologize for the FLCL eyebrows; I like to think one day when I can actually get them waxed though that I'll just have that much more material to work with XD

This is a greasy, bathroom selfie from 15 minutes ago

This is me when the lighting is a bit better and I haven't spent the entire day on the computer

I realize I have *incredibly* sunken cheeks; you may be shocked to know that HRT has FILLED THEM OUT, that's right, that is FULLER than they once were! Granted, I've always been very underweight, but pre-HRT I was a veritable living skeleton. Hopefully though the cheek-filling trend will continue lol; my biggest concerns are my chin, nose, and cheeks (which I can do little for other than wait). I'm very fortunate to be one of those thin-framed, hairless types (could never grow a beard/mustache) , so obviously my face is my only real concern.

Feel free to be completely honest with me; I'm a sensitive soul but I'm also realistic, and in reality I appreciate all constructive criticism.

The two things I'm most often compared to: Marilyn Manson (*gag*) or a horse, so rest assured I've developed a thick skin.

You have really great bone structure.  It will only be a matter of time before you fill out proportionately.  You carry a lot of female qualities about yourself as it stands now.  Like many of the others members have suggested some maintenance on hair and eyebrow waxing will sure do you justice.  As a little side note, bangs always seems to help us girls out as it hides some of our man-like features until we soften within time.  Overall, you look GREAT!!!  I'm always excited to follow each girl and guy transition.

I took a few yesterday. Do I pass? Blunt honesty would be appreciated. In the third one my face isn't clear but I just wanted to get a shot of my body (and unfortunately I can only take full body shots on my webcam).

Here's one I took a while ago for a full body shot.

If I saw you on the street I wouldn't even take a second glance. I'd say you pass quite nicely :)

Riversong -

Your feminine shape definitely advocates a great starting point to transitioning.  One thing to keep in mind is to be conscious of your proportions and weight as you begin HRT.  Many girls of color like myself experience mass amounts of weight gain due to our insatiable appetites as we add hormones to our bodies.  I think you will do exceptionally well once you begin HRT.  How long do you have left before you begin?

Your eyes are to DIE for!  Personally I believe eyes are a major attractive asset to any woman.  I believe you will do an amazing job once you begin HRT.  How long do you have before you start?

Hi Riversong,
Somehow I had missed this post, but the full body shot is good and I don't see any problems passing from a physical perspective. Take Felicity's advice, she seems to be on top of it in terms of potential hormonally driven weight problems for your ethnicity. I do believe that there are makeup tricks that women of color use to minimizing a broad nose statement, you might want to look into that hon, keep up the good work you're doing fine!

Thank you both for the advice! I should be starting hormones some time within the next few months. My therapist has said that she'll be happy to give an endocrinologist a letter of approval, so now I just need to find an endocrinologist who will accept me as a patient. I've considered the issue of weight gain induced by hormones. Normally I'm actually quite active, but due to my recent depression I haven't been as active as I usually am. Hopefully I can get back to my old ways after hormones have started.

With my nose, yea, it's something that I've been self conscious about for some time. Fortunately though, I think that's less of a masculine/feminine thing, and more of an attractiveness thing. I.e. I feel that it makes me less attractive, but I don't think it'll make me look less feminine. I'm optimistic that hormones will help it look better though :)
