While you wait for your hormones there are many things you could do.This isn't an exhaustive list but certainly things that if worked on would help with passing :
- If your voice needs work you could practise feminising it; it's not likely to change via HRT so you may as well get the practise in.
- You could work on the style of clothes you are going to be wearing; don't necessarily have to buy anything yet, but you could get an idea of the types of clothes you like - start a scrap book of ideas for future reference either an actual book or something like pinterest.
- Another thing you could do is practise deportment, study how cis-women carry themselves and mimic their behaviour patterns.
- If you have short hair start to grow it out, so that it can be styled in a fem way when longer.
- You might also want to look at options for facial hair removal, it is unlikely to just all fall out.
I second this....or third it.. whatever.

Especially the voice training. I've always had a tendency to sing along with female vocalists, especially sopranos. Unfortunately, due to years of smoking, my register isn't what it used to be. Luckily, though, I never had a super deep voice. If you do it's still very possible to change that. Either way, it's all about practice. What I've been doing is slowly speaking higher and higher around my peers so they barely notice. If you want some quality pro training I suggest checking out
http://genderlife.com/voicetutorThe interval approach I'm doing with my voice I also do with my clothing as I slowly move further away from my old wardrobe and into the one that best fits my personality. I'm very much a "tomboy", though, so really I'm just switching from men's versions of things to women's. But there's some very dressy stuff I like, too. Check out the fashion by Ovate. Dark, flowing and mysterious. There's nothing like bringing a sense of mystique into a room and attracting some interesting comments and conversations.
As someone who has been around women all of my life — family and friends — I think I've already incorporated into my gait a feminine vibe. My mother always said I was very feminine and thought I'd turn out to be gay. Well, I'm quite attracted to women, so... turns out she was right! Just not the way she expected.

She's already given me a pair of her jeans. Now it's time to go shopping!
Since I was 25 I just shaved my head, but now I'm growing it out. I have an atrocious receding hairline, though, so I'm hoping some long hair will hide that. Plus, when the HRT starts (ugh, still not there yet) I really hope it grows some of it back. Electrolysis on my face and neck will begin a few months after I've been on the 'mones. All in good time. As much as we want to rush it we have to just be patient and go with the flow.
Another tip is to start playing with makeup. It's very important (in my opinion) to put emphasis on either the eyes or the lips, but not both at the same time. I always get compliments on my eyes, so that's what I'll accentuate more. Once I've gotten a pretty nice outfit I'll post a pic here, cos I constantly worry that I'll look awful. I know that passing isn't the end-all of transition, but it's certainly close.
