I've only ever had a cat, when I'm out walking I encounter many dogs and cats though, there's a black cat two doors down and I think we have struck up quite a friendship. Oh and there's a dog next door, I don't think one day goes by without me hearing it bark in their garden (though it's not annoying), seems nice though when I walk by his gate.
So I'd say I like them both in their own ways, they're quite different, cats are quieter generally I think, more independent certainly, and I'm quite quiet, and couple that with the fact I spent age 5-21 years old in the company of a cat daily, at a push I'd say 'cats'.

(I guess my development into an adult must have been somewhat moulded with having a cat in the house.)
