From what I've read, there's no evidence at all that Edvard was "disgusted", he just didn't feel the same way - in fact, he wrote in his memoir "I found myself unable to respond to this love, and this caused the author much suffering."
I am not sure either since I can't find this paticular letter decribed in the picture which should be written around 1836(not 19th thats a spelling mistake) I posted the picture to make a long story short.
I would sure tell you if I find it but
it difficult to find the original letter because the general fact of him being queer is taboo and because they wrotte ALOT of letters, also many which was never sent.
reading other of his letters its diffently clear that He was very drawn to him and felt a deep love toward him while edvard seams to have felt more of a regular friendship felling. edvard was also marrige and had kids, in some way you could say edvard always keep his distance and turned andersen down. Andersens letter where alot longer and very deep with emotions and he used many powerfull ways to end his letter like:
"your always by hearted andersen" or "your andersen" where edward letters where shorter and not that overly emotional usunally with a "your honest friend edward" or "your loyal friend"
and he once asked to use the prononce of "you" while speaking, but edvard refused that which anderson never forgot. Back then saying "you" to others was a very big thing. you only did that with someone you was really close to.
