So some of it still works, bed time now so catch up tomorrow.
Following.
Decided to fill out my old diary first, this can wait in reserve. Now how long to fill 20 pages?
What happened to the posts in this thread?
All got dumped , it was my computer remembering the title that put it up when I didnt find any thread at first. Still I will fill the old one before reviving this.
I'm so glad life goes on! Struggles? There's been a few. But I'm not giving up! I can see you aren't either.

Called in on Deb, picked some beans! and rhubarb . Wish I could get her out of her fug. Did a bit down the workshop but it got very hot 29C so came back home. Made some rhubarb crumble in ramakins cooked in air fryer.
29C (81f?) in my flat!! melting now and looks like it will be an uncomfortable night.
On my phone is an emoji of a smiley face melting.
I sent two of those side by side to my bestie. I said, "If boobs had smiley faces..."
Now we send those back and forth to indicate "boob sweat". ;D
Panic call from mum, my TV licence payment form still not come in the post so while she was on the phone I found the web site and sorted it for her. How do the numptys that do these thing think an older generation with no internet access are going to do this as they want to make everyone do this online.
Well its going to be a hot one again, just walked to the chemist and store to pick up my meds and some cooking apples and it was HOT at 10.30. Thinnest top and long thin skirt helped but not much, both stores have air con so that makes it feel worse. Builders are finishing the flat roof on the garages in full sun, they will be glad when finished.
Got my test results from mammogram ,all good.
The apples are now in a blackberry and apple crumble, it looks good!!
"he apples are now in a blackberry and apple crumble." I might be knocking at your door tonight. That sounds sooo good Davina!
It is, crumble topping recipe that was for 4 ramekins (I did 2) was enough for my 6ins oval dish! Thurs shop again, thundery rain on its way but hope it holds off till I get back. Have to be frugal this week, need to get a new windscreen for the daily and its £60 excess to pay. Time to use up some frozen stuff, have some meals I made and things like chicken Kiev and fish cakes that I got when reduced. Also have a few Thai green curry kits that I got when they were reduced to clear with a long use by date, you have to shop wisely these days.
Spent to much in the hardware store but have the bits to do the lamps, forgot to get a cucumber but got some cheaper bits at the food shop. Mum was on her own so we went to the cafe for a drink after and mum got her sausage and chips for dinner. All looked good so I got a sausage and bacon baguette for lunch.
Thank goodness a breeze has started cos I was sat here leaking doing nothing!
We had some rain, had to shut some windows to stop it blowing in! It was okay to open them again by bed time, got bit again in the night. Just the one but itches like hell, antihistamine cream then.
Bit more lamp fabrication today, torpedo switches to fit on the 2 I made before ,wire up the new one and repair one that the bulb holder broke on.
Well I fixed the lamps, switches were a faff to wire! Did a green curry with chicken and runner beans then tried that rice, courgette ,tomato recipe from TV on Mon from memory. Tastes okay.
Mum rang just as I was starting to eat, typical, she has booked us on a coach trip for early Dec . Turkey and tinsel and it looks like the same place we went before.
So I went to the workshop, had to finish off 2 lamps. Started fitting the sill finishers (thats rockers for you state siders) and found a offcut of black vinyl that was long enough, trouble was it was a 1/4ins shy in the middle to go under the edge strip. Needless to say language unbecoming a women ensured!!
Ah well I will call on Debs as she said she would be in all day, was she? of course not. D gave me a lettuce and 2 courgettes from his garden and I managed to find 6 plums from his tree, made enough jam for a sandwich. Not sure what I will do with the courgettes, one will go in my pork, prawn and courgette stirfry tomorrow. Still have beans from last week to use.
Called on Deb this morning, late coz I overslept. Picked about 8 beans and helped her sort some new lamps for the hall way and dining room. Went to mums after and scratched my arms to bits picking a bowl of blackberries, mum had already picked double that before I got there but some she had missed and some out of her reach. Came away with 4 bags, dropped one off with Deb. Might make blackberry jam (jelly) , as I have 2kilo! Will have to get some sugar as well. Looked in mums garage for that drill press but not to be seen, still I found a spray gun, roof car ariel as well as a new set of drills and metric taps/dies. If there is an auto jumble on at the show ground I will have enough stuff to take to make a stall.
Got on well this morning, made another lamp out of a duff spray gun and the pickup/bowl fitted on the AID gun. Great I thought I can get on fitting the ariel to the Austin and then a neck muscle spasmed and I cant lift my left arm over my head so that but the kybosh on that.
Nice British summer weather today, you know windy, cloudy and spits of rain!!!
Well my back let me down this morning, neck still stiff so no workshop today. Making sausage patties later to go into a sausage "curry" from one of my cook books, no fresh coriander to go in the patties but that will be okay.
Toss and turn last night, weird dreams as well. Over active grey matter I recon but I normally make up for it next night. Back and neck recovered so will attempt to remove the front metal headlining from the Austin today, loads of stuff to remove from footwells first and give it a good vac.
Rained a bit ,showers around so my beans will be growing.
@davina61 Dear Davina:I always much enjoy reading your frequent updates on your Blog Thread and elsewhere

I am so very glad that your neck and back pains have subsided so that you can move
around and do some of the work that you wish to accomplish.
.... regarding your beans and other garden items... rain and sunshine makes it possible
for everything to grow.... then the work begins with your weeding and harvesting.
No rest for the weary.
Hmmm, you had "weird dreams" last night. That can be somewhat normal for me as well.
I am thinking that is caused by what I ate before I went to bed ? ??? :o ::)

Can I get a refund... or at least an exchange? ;D
I don't think I know any old mechanics that don't suffer from bad knees and backs, this generation have it easier with all the gearbox jacks and stuff so your not lifting heavy things. Its law your not allowed to lift over 15? kilos on your own now.
Needed 3 hands to refit the roof lining, impossible to hold it in place and start screws with just 2. D gave me a hand, okay its weird dream time again (11pm)
Thursday food shop again (comes around to fast) and can't decide what to get for next weeks dinner, looking at chicken and apricot curry to cook today as have a bag of dried apricots open. I know I will need 2kilo of caster sugar to make the blackberry jam, only have 2 Kilner jars and 3 old shop bought jam jars so will just make a 1.5k batch .Recipe said a 1.2k good for 4 jars so will see.
Cloudy and showery again 21C at best, forecast says by Sunday it will be 29c and sun . Talk about all over the place.
Well I made the blackberry jam, not sure if the squeezy lemon juice was the right stuff to use as it said 1 whole lemon juice .Had trouble with it setting but jars are still warm, where I spilt some it set. Chicken and apricot came out fine, sweet and sour from the apricots and sugar and red wine vinegar.
I wish they would mark up the parking area, we still have 3 cars from flat 3 when only one place per flat and there's a strange car parked up this morning. Girl from flat 4 parked in the middle of 2 places the other day, no consideration for others. Okay moan out the way, windy but nice morning so off out when I can get these old bones stirred.
Got my Skoda booked in for its annual test for the 22nd, have to get a new screen fitted before then. £60 excess to pay so will have to watch the bank balance.
Well these old bones went clack when I bent to put some dishes away, good job as found the lamb needed cooking today and that took 3 hrs start to finish.
See trust the universe, as I was home I looked on line to see if there was an autojumble on at the local show ground. Sept 1st so managed to get the organiser and have a pitch booked inside for £40, its 6mx6m so room for my car. Now I need to get the lamps tested and go through mums garage and see what I can find, also need some tables.
Fire alarm went off last night at 3.15, good job I was coming around for a comfort break! By the time I got dressed and had a wee it stopped, will have a look on the display to see who it was that set it off. System is a bit sensitive as toast will set it off, it also has faults as flat 2 was away and it went off for no reason.
I hate middle of the night alarms!
Turns out it looks like a faulty sensor again, attic space above flat 8 it said. Well that makes a change from above flat 6!!
Spent all morning till 2.30 sorting out stuff at mums to take to the auto jumble, still have a few bits to take but I was worn out by then. Hope I can get all the stuff in as doing the same at my garage tomorrow and still need to get the lamps in, have a good few hours of cleaning to do. Wonder if that old tow rope will sell as it clean old style ,mmmmmmm money for old rope----------------
Good old British weather, it goes from 20C to 30C in one day. 2 day heatwave on the way, calling in on the Debster this morning. Have to see her new lamps she has had fitted ,will give the beans a good soak as well.
Life plods on doing what I can on my pittance, new government have stopped pensioners winter fuel payment. That was a bonus to help get by, dowdy might hit the fan over this one as the new lot have already shown how useless they are.
Picked a good handful of beans at Debs and dug her a root of spuds, they were small but the ground was bone dry. Still they all cook to make a meal, left her a pile of beans so I hope she has them with the spuds. D gave me 2 courgettes and a cucumber so well off for veg. Sorted a load of stuff out to take with mums stuff, car will be rammed.
Turned out very hot, flaked on the sofa now.
Quote from: davina61 on August 11, 2024, 10:56:25 AMflaked on the sofa
I like this. It is exactly what I do sometimes. I'm stealing it. ;D
Well 9.35 and thunder storms rumbling about, need to get lemons for some more blackberry jam and bulbs and switches to finish 2 lamps. Will call in on my niece at her work to see if her fella does PAT testing so I can sell the lamps.
Well had to ring a bloke to do the PAT test, he can do them Weds afternoon. Trouble is set charge of £55, then I range to get the windscreen done on the daily, can't do it till the 29th that is a week after annual test so will have to go back for a retest. Had to pay them the £60 excess up front as well, bread and water this week then.
@davina61
Dear Davina:Are you selling the lamps retail at a store???
Is that why you need the appliance testing/safety certification?
I fondly recall that years ago that you had been creating clocks and
other items out of old automotive parts... they were unique and beautiful.
... Are you doing the same with lamps also?
Pictures? ???????HUGS, DanielleQuote from: davina61 on August 12, 2024, 10:35:01 AMWell had to ring a bloke to do the PAT test, he can do them Weds afternoon. Yes selling them (I hope) at the auto jumble so they need a certificate, will just have to add some to the ticket price. £55 divided by 7. Russel the robot ,some old bulkhead lamps made into desk lamps, one uplighter made from explosion proof lamp, old inspection lamp on a base, fire extinguisher lamp and a spray gun lamp. Might make another as found a tripod in mums garage and I have an old 12 volt "power failure" lamp to go on top that looks like an old headlamp.
Call from mum, my (battery) mower won't work. Was calling in anyway and by the time I got there she had mown the lawn, not sure what she had been doing wrong but it does have an overload cut out.
Made that tripod light and fitted switches to 2 that needed it, brought them all home for the PAT test.
Murphy's Law #167
"It's works better when the switch is in the ON position." ;D
Sometimes I do wonder if mum is losing the plot but then she was never any good with technical stuff! Still cant work her old flip style phone functions, menu on telly to see what's on and things like that but then she is fine with other stuff.
Need to sort my single garage at the flat out ,well I say garage but its a catch all full of rubbish mostly. Car seat and sub that belongs to my youngest's friend that I have had stored for over 5 years and he wont pick up, recycle (skip) run then. All the stuff out of the camper, good job I have pallets to sit it on.
The PAT test guy turned up early, all good and he gave me 3 new plugs . He rated the lamps and agreed with me on prices, said good luck at the auto jumble as it should all sell. Have an idea for another lamp!
Ditto! Ditto!
Enjoying the real life story. Life is good regardless of the hurdles.

Well a bit more RLE, had to reboil the last batch of jam as it was still runny. Looks okay now, odd bit left so going in some yogurt for pudding.
My hot rod friend has just acquired the T roadster one of the other members has been building since 70s, he has got Dementure so his family put it up for sale. Going over in a few weeks to sort electrics and see if it will run, not sure if N will still be alive as his missis just posted on our WhatsApp that she has only just seen it!!! I posted is N on the naughty step and she posted back they both are fully in on getting Js T finished.
Usual fight to get round the supermarket, all the disabled folks were out today. Got back home and the carpark entrance was blocked with an ambulance, most likely the man in flat 9 as he is on oxygen. Not sure what he has but not good.
Daalcha cooking at the moment, chick peas have been boiling for an hour and still rock hard so might have to use a tin. Feel knackered today, not sure why. Fell asleep after lunch and not come round properly yet.
It is exhausting dodging all those disabled folks at the market. ;D
Its like a scene from Police Files----------
I was thinking more like "Death Race 2000" with David Carradine. ;D
That one's got a walker! Extra points!

Not looking forward to when the kids hide my keys. I've got spares! They better get them all. My three toys are finished. As long as they get driven at least 50 miles a month they'll last. Unless mice get into the barn. I'd post an image for you but can't quite figure it out. I'll have to get my son to show me.
I know I need to get the Austin done but run out of £££s
I've seen your many many references to the Austin. Which model is it? Money is always the limiting factor isn't it? Have you a priority list of tasks/projects in order of expense? It took me almost 5 years to get my Silver Cloud reliable, rust bucket that she is. I'll never afford to get her body restored, it would be the old adage putting £30,000 into a £20,000 car. She is a joy to drive through. She wears her age well and garners attention no matter where she goes. The longest run I've given her was 3200 miles. Without a whimper.
Does the Austin run? MOT?
Its a 1951 A40 countryman, rare. Running gear out of a 96 Vauxhall Omega 30L v6, air ride and has the ABS from the Omega. Lots of trick bits.
Quote from: davina61 on August 15, 2024, 04:53:43 PMIts a 1951 A40 countryman, rare. Running gear out of a 96 Vauxhall Omega 30L v6, air ride and has the ABS from the Omega. Lots of trick bits.
I Googled it to see what they look like. NICE! I like the looks of them.
There was also a note that the Somerset engine was upgraded to 42 horsepower. WHAT?
Are they able to go uphill at all? ;D
They were only 1200cc, first time I built it in 79 it had an MGB engine and running gear so went okay. Now it has 220hp.
Nice day now after last night rain, should be some beans to pick now. Off down the garage to see if I can make another lamp and sort some more bits out.
I looked up too. Love the lines. It looks so cool!
You should start a "Go Fund Me". There are plenty of enthusiasts out there including me!
Well I made that lamp, not bright enough and said to D and he gave me some used spot /ceiling lamp bulbs and fittings. Now they will be super bright, have to redo it all now. Should have sat on my perch stool doing this, bad back and neck again.
Called in on Deb and picked yet more runner beans, looks like green bean chutney then. Now I need some more jars, it will store fine for a year. Thats some Christmas gifts sorted!!
Waiting for the painkillers to work this morning so found this pic of the Austin(https://i.imgur.com/2eLiTco.jpg)
Well that just scuppered today, just went to get ready to go out and muscle spasmed. Hurts to move and breath now so more pills and sofa time.
I love that color, Davina!
I'm with Lori. That is a great color!
Sorry you are feeling so poorly Davina. I hope you get some relief soon!
Porsche Indian red (Indishrot) , needs mopping and a few odd runs to sort. Bit more mobile now but still have to take care sitting down, struggled to get a pan from bottom shelf to cook a veg curry.
Beautiful color. Did you do the painting yourself?
Yes I just put up plastic sheet to make a spray booth, still got some dust in it. Have to redo the tail gate and rear panel as well as the rear spats, wanted to do it when it was hot but cant afford the paint.
2 lots of pain killers and good to go this morning, called in on mum and picked a load of blackberries for Deb. Made a better lamp using the ceiling light D gave me, needs a smaller bulb to do the other one. Got some jars from mum for green bean chutney and 2 onions, will have to go round the shop tomorrow and get 2 more as recipe said 4. Bit shy of malt vinegar as well. Told Deb if she wants more blackberries to go and help herself as mum is not picking anymore, must have been as many as I picked still on the bush.
D gave me a cucumber from his greenhouse as well as a courgette, not sure when it will get cooked as have the one from mum to make as stuffed marrow and now 2 more----------
Courgette chutney???

I used to work in a garage when we were slow the boss would have me paint some vehicles and fix them up for resale, mostly pickups. The lighting was horrible but after a few I got pretty good at it. I would hold a light in one hand and the spray gun in the other. Watching the reflection to tell how much I had sprayed. He liked to use enamel paint with hardener (cheap). I would thin it to make it spray better.
That is what we call 2K paint ,isocyanate so not good to breath any fumes. Have a filter mask but it should be pressure fed ,still its not killed me yet (cough cough)
Dull and cloudy, rain on the way later. Looks like jeans and a light jacket/hoodie for the shop trip.
Cooking done, green bean chutney in the jars but it only made 3. Needed smaller jars, recipe said 200ml. Dry veg curry made to use up a few remaining beans and bits, Keema cooked and marrow (well I say marrow but its a large courgette) filled and cooked ready for dinner. Kitchen cleaned and now time for a sit down as I need it!!
Quote from: davina61 on August 16, 2024, 03:40:39 AMThey were only 1200cc, first time I built it in 79 it had an MGB engine and running gear so went okay. Now it has 220hp.

How do you choose what to do? Decisions. Pick beans, make chutney, help your mum. Busy girl!
And mum rang and said she is coming to the autojumble! at least I can go for a pee break.
Found some more goodies in mums garage this morning, repaired a small wooden box to take and filled a small tray with knickknacks. Going to be a tight squeze to fit it all in the car so tomorrow its time to sort through what I have and get the boxes reduced as in ram as much in each box as will go!!
3hrs graft got the garage at home sorted, pallets laid on the floor to put my camping gear and other stuff on. Boxes of bits for the auto jumble done, still not sure if it will all fit in my motor. Folks from the house in the carpark (that recently moved in) were taking stuff to the recycle centre and stopped for a natter as well as the new person in flat5 ,he liked my lamps and said he might be interested in one.
Rush around today, went to go shopping and road at a standstill, luckily I was opposite the entrance to the back road so went that way. It was the traffic going to the Sunshine music fest, someone said it took 2 hrs to get through town (2 miles!) good job it had cleared by the time I took the daily for its annual test.
Went to one supermarket this morning for spices, yes they still do them so fully stocked now apart from cloves. Rush to pick up a light bulb, then fuel and met mum for food shop . Then a rush back home for a brew and snack before taking the car, going out to have a burger with the car club tonight as well.
Fun last night with the car club gang, lady told me my hair looked nice. I just said I picked a style to suit my face! The cafe overlooking the lake open just for us to have a meeting, food was good (double burger with bacon and cheese, yum) . Traffic on the motor way was bad through road works so took me 45mins to get there (20 miles) but okay on the way back 30mins. We were all stood on the veranda watching the geese on the lake, 3 birds did a synchronised landing!
"And mum rang and said she is coming to the autojumble! at least I can go for a pee break."
Davina as I get older, I do that more often! ::)
Sorted the last 2 lights then a muscle started to go tight in my neck, that was from the effort of using the lazy tongs riveter . Had to hold the one end and push the handle with the other, triceps ?
Neck better this morning just back to its normal nag. Its piddling with rain, I have house work to do and a chicken to cook for dinner. Going to have a wander through my curry cook books to see what I will do. Must be a mud bath at the music festival on the meadow just out of town over the river bridge. Something like 5thousand folks there!!!
Busy on as the local saying goes, bed changed and sheets washed, bedroom dusted (that bad I went over with the hand vac with a small brush end first!) and lunch made. Had salmon left from last nights dinner so flaked that over some couscous with chopped up cucumber, tomatoes and lots of chilli sauce.
Bangladesh white chicken korma to cook now, its just stopped raining about 12.30 and sun is trying to come out.
Sorry if your squeamish but recipe said skin the chicken, I got it off in one piece but it was like fighting with a 2 year old getting them out of a baby grow--------------
Sprinkled the skin with cayenne and salt and cooked it in the air fryer till it was crispy, nice broken up on top of the chicken curry.
7pm and sun out now, chill night then.
I prefer skinless, but using the air fryer is interesting. I do enjoy pork rinds now and then.
Picked some beans at Debs, gave her some and then called on mum and left her some as well. That was yesterday, today its a public holiday. Went back to sleep lazing in bed so by the time I showered and things it was 10.30! Brunch then, bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs with toast and brown sauce. Courgette curry to cook this affty and will through the few runner beans I have in the pot to use them up. Midday all ready, bumbling about day then.
Courgette curry cooked, its one that uses an onion/garlic/ginger/chilli paste. Just whack it in a blender with some water till its a paste, just hope the onion cooked out okay. Did fry it for 5mins more than it said and had to cook it on a simmer 15mins longer for the courgette to cook. Time for another cuppa, that salty bacon has made me thirsty.
Davina I have to stop reading your blog before dinner!
Think I should have named this Davinas cook book
Did some work on the Austin as got fed up not doing things to it. Repaired the damaged registration plate as best I could, its a thick stamped alloy. Then fitted the lower grill after some fettling, chrome rough and its a zinc alloy so cant be rechromed. Not sure what I will be doing tomorrow yet.

Davina's Custom Recipes and Auto Restoration. ;D
Twiddling my thumbs day, have to make some signs for the show. I hate it when in limbo waiting for something to happen and then its a rush to do things.
Got a message from windscreen fitters, coming today between 11.30 and 2.30. Well that put a hold on food shop, will have to go tomorrow . Need to go to chemist for my patches so walk up town after they are done, car has to sit for a few hours to let the glue set before driving.
Car all sorted and passed inspection, just got it right turning up at 2pm and caught him between tests. The universe was on my side today, forgot to get some post it notes for the autojumble and driving back from garage there was a parking space outside the shop!! Makes a change.
I was going to say something but I cant remember so I wont.
And I still can't find where I put my glasses.... ??? ::) ;D
Wizz on this morning, left home at 10.15 and drove to town 6miles to supermarket. Did my shop and was back home for 11.20, would have been quicker but stuck in tail back from temp traffic lights for a good 5mins.
Watching the folks next door digging holes with a mini digger, was the 2nd hole made to bury the soil from the first hole??
Fiddle sticks, woke at 6am when I could have slept in today. Have to be up at 6 tomorrow to get to the autojumble early to set up. Have to go down my workshop this morning as forgot some stuff then back home to stuff as much as I can in my car, good job the rear seats unclip for more load space. A Skoda Yeti is one of the most practical small SUVs ever made. Have to go pick mum up to go out for a meal tonight at 5.30 with the load in so hope I leave enough leg room for her as need to move passenger seat forward.
Nice clear sky this morning, bit chill as Autumn starts to move in. Shame the forecast is wet tomorrow afternoon.
Well it all went in, room left to shoehorn mum in as well!!
Last time I went to the pub we had a meal at tonight it was just a pub, now its a pub that thinks its a "posh" restaurant. Food was average, menu was an exaggeration and when the folks we were with asked for English mustard they didnt have any! Someplace new next time then, still at least I got back home to watch the GP qualifying on catchup.
It's amazing how much we collect. We have been focusing on every box we have in the basement. I felt like Indiana Jones in a junk yard.
It went well, worn out now as been on my feet since 7am and got back home at 4pm. Did okay and sold a lot, 3lamps and loads of car bits as well as spurious things. £250 in my pocket less £40 for the pitch, beat the rain as well as it just started to spit as I got home.

Pooped this morning, my bad ankle was giving me grief last night as I could hardly stand on it. Unload the car later so hope the showers stay away. Fish curry for dinner when I make it, cod and peas TBH.
Day turned out nice after that wet start, stacked the autojumble boxes on my make do bench in my garage at home. Okay its a pile of wheels with the sides of an old wardrobe laid on top, well it works. Forgot to say I got "hit on" on Sunday at the auto show, some old boy (might be younger than me) chatted me up. He lives close by and had a stand just over the row from me. Sorry mate but happy on my own and men don't do anything for me! It would take a VERY special person for me to get involved with.
Fish curry is nice, will make that one again. Quick and simple, only faff is grating 4 tomatoes. Well it ram the car day again tomorrow, bags and old boxes from my workshop and stuff from mums plus a load from my garage at home. Also have that old sofa to cut up so hope my new battery power saw works. I won that castor /camber gauge on the bay so will be able to set up front suspension now.
Car is rammed with stuff for the local recycle skips tomorrow, called on Deb and picked the last of the beans. Green toms as well from mum so some more chutney to make. Will have another car full of junk to take tomorrow, hope my knees and ankle survive climbing the steps for the skips.
@davina61 Dear Davina:I am certain it feels good to get all that stuff cleaned out of your home...
... take care of your knees and ankles.... go easy.HUGS, DanielleQuote from: davina61 on September 03, 2024, 09:33:03 AMCar is rammed with stuff for the local recycle skips tomorrow, called on Deb and picked the last of the beans. Well 2 skip runs and that sofa cut up, # officially pooped .com. Done in now but its all sorted, next job is to deep clean my workshop before winter sets in. Dust ,dirt and bits for the scrap pile as well as shelves to tidy.
Always satisfying to reduce the clutter to give you room again. Time for a nice hot bath. Don't forget the bubbles!
Wish I had a bath ,sigh, only have a shower. Time for one now before food shopping, need it to wake me up as had a toss and turn night with vivid dreams again that woke me up. Hard to go back to sleep with a busy scrambled brain.
Brain still full of cotton wool still managed to make the marinade for the chicken drumsticks. Have to sit in it in the fridge for a few hours before going in the oven.
Did the VW show, met my friend and he had the CB gear and we talked and drank coffee for a good 1/2 hr. Found the bits I wanted and back home for 1pm, legs ache as I walked for 1 1/2 hrs around the stalls and stuff.
Having a nice time watching the drag racing from Santa Pod and as the top fuel came on the Facebook feed went down GGGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Went down the workshop yesterday to find there had been a torrential rain storm (missed it I think where I live a few miles away) and it backed up into a pond in the yard. D had his shop flood and I had a good inch plus get in mine under the door, this is the side that normally stays dry. It was also the side I needed to finish cleaning, water got into my mains angle grinder, battery charger and power tool charger. Hope they all dry out, had to give up finishing the clean up after picking up stuff that was wet and bagging it as the floor was to wet to sweep.
Spent the afternoon watching live feed FIA Euro drag racing on FB from the Pod, one of my friends in the hot rod club has raced since the 80s and his 3 lads were racing . They all went out in 1/4 finals by the smallest of margins, Lee lost by .003 sec. It didnt finish till 9pm as they had a late start from rain.
Making green tomato chutney this morning and tomato with meat and yogurt later (thats a lamb curry). Washed my hair this morning and shedding loads, must brush them out before cooking!!!
I know how you feel Davina. I have had to clean up after a few hurricanes. They always help me find water leaks...always in the wrong places. I don't want a water feature inside my house. ;D
Quote from: Emma1017 on September 09, 2024, 10:24:26 AMI don't want a water feature inside my house. ;D
Some people just don't appreciate the finer things in life. ;D :-*
Went to my friends today to look at the hot rod T that he bought from another member of the hot rod club. Lot of stuff to do just to get a dry build done before a strip and final build, looks like I have a few days helping then. In my element then, making wiring, sorting welding and helping out. Had to keep saying "this is what I would do but its your car" but so far he aggress with me!
It is good that people recognize your expertise. Especially if it helps them achieve something they want, but might not be sure how to do it.
It started out as a road car build but J that was building it thought he might not be able to put it on the road legally so he started to turn it into a drag car. It has a registration document so will be okay so it is now being built as a road car again. J is suffering from dementia and looks like it was starting before folks noticed as there is some odd stuff going on and in the parts boxes. There is a place for a plaque on the dash so I said to Nick he should put one there for J from all that finished his vision.

That is a great idea. Something like: "Brought to you by Davina's Custom Curries and Auto Restoration."
Went to look at the wiring and starter fault on Brian's Comet, typical American bodge wiring job and a fire waiting to happen. 3 different cables joint with crimp connectors for main alternator cable, all renewed . Sorted some more stuff but need to go back next week to do a bit more. Have known Bri since 78/79 , only! got dead named 3 times and he did say sorry. Not helped by me having to take my hair off to get under car and dash.

You need one of those old pilot caps with the ear flaps that fasten under your chin. It will protect your hair and keep it from getting snagged on old Dodge wiring. ;D
I did put a cap on but that got in the way------------
Turned cold, had to put the heater on in living room last night down to 17C . Sunny this morning but showers and high of 15C today and colder tomorrow, winter draws on girls!
Mum had to drive miles out of her way to get around the road works to get to town, hope she can get back okay. Bless her she treated me to a Plasm Cutter from the centre isle, will come in handy for slicing metal.
Cooking a Daalcha now, for them as not read me diary its lamb, courgette and mashed chickpeas. Banana and pecan loaf to cook as well.
No point ingoing down the workshop today as road still closed, sold some car bits so had to walk round post office. Popped in the store and got a tub of ice cream to go with the banana cake, it turned out nice even with me forgetting to put 1/2 tsp of baking powder in. House work all done, bed changed and clothes washed so having a sit down!
Ice cream and banana cake sound SO good!
It is, had to try some just to be sure!!
Quote from: davina61 on September 13, 2024, 10:15:28 AMIt is, had to try some just to be sure!!
I can be quite skeptical. I might need to sample a lot of it, often, to decide. ;D
Having a bit more for pudding just to be sure--------
I know we are all still waiting for "Davina's Mechanics Cookbook: Curry, Cakes and Welding" to be published!
Put my name on the list for a first edition. I am entirely impressed with Davina's creativity and expertise in her shop and kitchen!!
Coral
Now I am blushing, did some alloy welding for a mate yesterday. TIG welder playing up and it was fine the last time I used it not helped by my eye sight even with glasses looking through the bright light to see the metal melt and pool. Got home and started to get swimming vision, okay after a 5mins relax and sit down.
Watched some drag racing from Santa Pod again as its the Vintage Hot Rod Drags, saw Nick take his 31 roadster down the track and just before I stopped watching Brian took his sons Pro ET/Supergas Toyota down. The Toyota is a replica of the car Brian used to race when I used to race against him but this is much quicker, he ran a 9.8 sec 1/4 . Not bad for an 80 year old!
The perfect combination of trans and drag (racing). ;D
I hope you are using a welding helmet and not tinted brazing googles. I have an auto darkening helmet for welding works nice. It took some getting used to as I kept bobbing my head to lower the helmet even though it was already down.
I got a case of "welder's flash" when I was a teen working in my stepdad's welding shop. I wasn't welding, just holding the pipes being welded. That night it felt like rock salt in my eyes.
My stepdad laughed and said, "But it is SO pretty to look at, isn't it?"
I learned my lesson.
Just eye strain from trying to see past the arc, have a very good helmet and my glasses are tinted to reduce glare. Had to redo a couple of bits on it today, welder worked okay.
Put the drag racing on when I got home and saw Brian do another run, match race with another racer and Brian got him on a hole shot (if you dont know drag racing look it up)
Called on mum to see how she got on with the air fryer, okay she said. I am cooking a chicken breast in it for tonight, told her to be careful not to get it dry.
So mostly today its house work and cooking, cant be bothered to do anything else! TBH I woke later (had to put a fleece blanket on my duvet last night as it went cold) and was so snug in bed I stayed there for a good bit not that it mattered.
Its a year since Debs son was killed in a RTA, she seems to be coping when I rang her this morning. Gave her the talk as well, poo happens and we just have to deal with it and not let it take over is my advice.
Went to Brian's , got dead named all day but I let it wash as its not on purpose. Sorted his wiring , all I can say is the person who worked on it before needs a good slapping!
I have run into that many times. As a Service Technician troubleshooting security systems. I take a look at the control panel, it's a 1973 Omni model and I know the inside will be a rat's nest. Takes a good part of the day toning out each wire and labeling it because the owner is too cheap to buy a newer system. It would cost less in maintenance repairs to buy a new system. I would try to explain it, but they didn't get it, or care. I didn't care, I got paid by the hour, and I wasn't cheap. ;D
Chef on telly made some flat breads from yogurt, self raising flour and olive oil. Had some yogurt that needed using (like it had been sat in my fridge after being opened for a week) so gave it a go. Came out okay and I ate one with honey on for pudding, have eggs to use up so but a flat bread in the air fryer with 2 eggs on top. Sort of French toast? and had that for breakfast.
Off to Nick's in a bit to do some welding on the hot rod T RUP (roadster pickup)
Managed to burn a hole and set fire to my ex works polo shirt, cheap and nasty one. Trouble was it stuck to my skin and I now have a burn just below my right boob, bit sore but its had a good coat of antiseptic cream. Thats what you get for rushing cutting a rusted nut off in my mates workshop, still got the work done on the T that we set out to do.
Ouch. Hope it heals up well. Nuts can be hard to remove, that why I went to a surgeon!

DO NOT let a surgeon use a torch! ;D
Its okay at the moment, just lost a layer of skin and its a bit red and sore. Shopping day again, looked at calendar and only a week left of this month. Where did that go?
Cloudy and breezy this morning, sunny and 22C later they say so what to wear?
Still breezy and cloudy!! Aunty and Uncle went to get their feet done this morning so were late to the supermarket. Great I had done mine and bumped into them as I left so we had a chat catch up. Got a pork joint to make a pork and mushroom curry with enough left to make a Vindaloo after cutting it all up into cubes, cooked the rind in the air fryer and have crunchy scratchings!
Not with it today, woke up tired and brain not in gear-----------
Just got back from the workshop and no parking spaces in the flat's car park, some random Suzuki where I normally park. Spoke to lady in flat 4 as she came in same time as me and she said her daughter has had to park in the street when she comes home after working late due to no spaces. Phone call made to letting agents and I said it not only me thats getting cross about this and told them about flat 4 and the fact flat 6 will have nowhere to park later. I think some thing will happen this time as the person I spoke to said its not right and she will see about it.
Managed to do a bit today, swept the floor now its dry and tided up. Top section of grill fitted, just needs 2 bits "chroming" now.
Turns out it was someone visiting flat8, I banged on my window and opened it and shouted at them before I saw Kier with her. When he came back in he knocked on my door and said I said oh no you parked in Davina's spot. Ran down and moved it before anyone else parks there. He agrees with me for numbers to go up , If I did a petition I think at least7 out of 9 flats would sign it.
Good thunder storm at the moment, I could see some lightning. D just rang me and said the garage is flooded worse than he has ever seen it, pump was on and he thinks he has 6ins gone in his bit. Mine is up the bank but it will have gone in so good job I moved stuff. 2 hrs of heavy rain and hardly any here, he said houses flooded in Ledbury the other side of the hills.
More rain today, no point in going to the workshop till its dried out. Have some fresh figs so will attempt to make a fig tart when I find an easy recipe, also have a cauliflower that needs cooking as its been in the fridge for 2 weeks! Had a fry up for breakfast, bacon ,sausage , mushrooms and scrambled egg, bacon and sausage cooked in air fryer so the fat runs off and mushrooms cooked in olive oil with the eggs done in the same pan after. About as healthy as a fry up can be.
Davina, every time I visit your blog, I wind up hungry and need to weld something.
Going out to change the air filters on the car and order a pizza!
The round thing under the hood is not a pizza !!! Well watching drag racing from Santa Pod but they had a thunder storm and are frantically trying to dry the track, shame as its the championship finals with a lot of classes very close to who wins. Forecast for tomorrow is a wash out---------
OOOOhhh, that is why my car always smells like pizza and there is pepperoni in the carburetor.....
Quote from: Emma1017 on September 21, 2024, 05:59:17 PMOOOOhhh, that is why my car always smells like pizza and there is pepperoni in the carburetor.....
It was lashing it down when I got up so gave up going out, of course its now been dry for the last few hours.
Drag racing got cancelled as well. Did some bacon, mushroom and tomato pasta for lunch. Quick and tasty, that used the mushrooms up while they were still fresh.
Grand Prix later, will they all keep away from the barrier? Road circuits are always tricky.
Someone left the tap running, sky leaking again with red warning for downpour. Bored already and its only 10.20! Cooking a Vindaloo in a bit, have to soak the pork in vinegar first.
Off to Nicks tomorrow to sort the electrics for the hot rod T, need to work out what bits we need.
Head is full of wiring! Spent the day at Nicks sorting out the wiring kit he got as well as the modules that control the water pump and fan etc. Back next week when he has made a few bits and then I can make a start on fitting it all. Off to see Brian this morning to fit a correct radio in his 64 Comet, hope thats a quick one as it was 5.30 when I got back yesterday. Nice but cool morning but storm coming in again later.
Autumn is here, had to put my nighty on last night and fleece blanket on bed.
Managed to get the wiring out of my head and onto paper, have to go back and do some more to Brian's Comet as something screwy going on with dash wiring from the extra gauges. Next week for that one some time and back on the T as well one day.
Thurs food shop, what to get for batch cook dinner?? Might do that "mums chicken curry" from one of my books as it uses legs and thighs. Made an apple and blackberry pie last night in the air fryer, came out okay but needed sugar in the filling. 20 mins to make pastry ,chop apples (cooked them for 3mins in micro) and 20 mins to cook. Nice with a dollop of yogurt.
Spent more than I wanted at the supermarket but they had packs of minced lamb and cubed lamb, not something they have often so got 2 packs of each. There was also some reduced price burgers and breaded fish, freezer full now! Chicken curry on the go ,looks good.
I have to stop reading your blog before dinner Davina. We're doing roast chicken tonight and it might turn out to be a wine night too!
Chicken turned out nice, have enough to make 4 more dinners. Also made some chapati to eat it with, quick and easy. Just add water to the flour and knead for a bit then roll out thin, hot dry pan and cook.
Off down the workshop now, more rain and wind overnight but I slept through it so only know from local radio this morning. Its the Autumn Show at the local show ground so traffic will be bad, good job I am going the other way. They reported on the giant veg, they had to get a crane in to lift the biggest pumpkin!!!
Well the water ingress into my workshop did no damage, D said it was a good inch. He has got a high volume pump to shift the water for next time. Sorted some boxes of Austin build parts and did a shelf tidy up. Turned out nice and sunny and should be okay tomorrow. Plonker from flat 3 parked in my space again, grrrr.
Quote from: davina61 on September 27, 2024, 10:30:24 AMPlonker from flat 3 parked in my space again, grrrr.
People tease me because I have "MY spot" even though parking does not have assigned spaces. Some have even teasingly called me "Sheldon".
Free for all here as well ,what gets my goat is only one space per flat and they have 2 cars.
Come down with some sort of lurgy ,think its just a cold. Stayed home in the warm so looks like a sofa day.
Had a sausage sandwich, made me sweat from the spices in the Cumberland style. Next thing I woke up ! and feel a lot better, still have a slight head as they say around here.
Made a brownie recipe off the net (I blame someone of posting in cooking!!) for an air fryer. Simple to make but my air fryer cooked the out side and it was still raw in the centre , cooked it twice as long then managed to turn it over to cook under side. Still liquid in the centre, might set when cold? but hope its safe to eat. Made cabbage "curry" to go with tonight's dinner, at least that is okay.
Scooped the runny/soft bits up and cooked them in a small dish, nice for pudding with yogurt.

Sounds good.
When I go to the UK I will try their fish and chips at a couple or more places.
Like all things you get great and you get bad, best is normally at a fishing port.
Brain fuzzy this morning, woke early and went back to sleep on and off. had a 20min kip this affty and fine now, brain just needed to reboot!
Called on mum, retuned her telly as its ages since I did it last and mine tells me when updates need doing. Must have done mine 6 or more times since I last did hers. Also checked the thermostat setting on her electric fire and turned it down. She gave me a small cucumber from the greenhouse, last of the crop.
Did a bit in the workshop, cleaned up my spotwelder and loaded it and some clamps and bits in the daily to take to Ns tomorrow. Called on Deb, dogs were glad to see me.
Something wrong with my spot welder, maybe water got in it. Good day otherwise working on the hot rod T sorting the new wiring loom to fit.
Have you thought of recipes that can be made with a spot welder? Something for your new cookbook...
No but spaghetti wiring loom recipe!!
Easy job on Brian's Comet this morning, he had knocked a wire off! Adjusted the micro switches on the gear selector and all sorted ready for some drag strip action next year. We spent longer talking and drinking tea than working-----------
Seeing Allie take a break I keep thinking why do I post on my blog as nothing to do with being trans much, just living a normal life. But with my strangely wired brain I need to empty it of thoughts or they stick and keep going round. Example is the wiring on my friends hot rod, I would wake in the night and it was running through my thoughts. Cleared that by sorting it out and posting some.
Back to life, shopping Thurs yet again and no clue what I will be getting for dinner-----------
I'll tell you Davina that for me your posts show us what it is like living life post-transition. You still have the same hobbies that you enjoy, which signals to others that you don't need to take up needlepoint just because you are trans. But your posts are not all about auto restoration either. Your cooking skills amaze me because I have never had them. Your creativity shows through too. (Confession: I still have a crush on Robbie the Robot. ;D ).
So your posts help you clear the clutter in your mind, and it helps us to see how our lives can be too when we are not struggling with our trans-specific issues. Keep posting, dear. We love your "ramblings".
Thanks dear, well on the cooking front its meat and cauliflower curry on the go as well as a fig tart in the oven. I made a Bakewell tart without the jam and stuck the 1/4rd figs in the top.
So I stripped the PCB out of my spot welder to see if there was any water damage, looked fine so put it back together and it worked. Buggered if I know what was wrong with it.
Welded up the grille for the hot rod T, muscle in my side giving me grief after grinding the welds down. Its that slight stoop position that catches me out.
New laptop battery, have to charge and discharge it twice to set it up.
I just knew it, can hardly stand up right this morning after yesterdays shenanigans welding and grinding. Have house work and cooking to do anyway, bed to change and food to cook. Lots of gentle stretching now to ease the muscles.
Trying to run the battery down!! There is an Austin A70 Hereford on e bay for £500 but its in Scotland , very rotten and past resto but would make a great hot rod. mmmmmmmmmm
Hmmmm, Scotland bound Davina????
Ebay is so seductive.

It is nice to have many chores done.
Chrissy
Called on Deb, she said there are loads of beans on the plants but it was raining so they stayed there! Popped in to mums and left her a slice of banana loaf, went down the workshop and made a cover for the wiring on the T. Picked up some bits for tomorrow and back home for 1pm, feet up time now.
2 days work on Nicks T hot rod and wiring almost finished, just waiting on some switches. We got on well stripping the inside panels and pick up so down to a bare chassis. Back on it next week I hope.
Had to rush back from the workshop this morning, electrician texted to say he could come to do a system check this afternoon. He found some faults so will be back. Cooked a "small" packet of Risotto that I got the other week as it was reduced, had a great big bowl full with 2 chopped up figs . Nice but have a load left over, found a recipe for left over risotto cakes and tomato sauce so that looks like tomorrows dinner.
Spent to much shopping again, they had padded work trousers for £9.50 in my size (fb) and mum got me a work body warmer/waist coat. Needed some bread crumbs but the only thing they had was garlic/herb croutons to go as a crust on the left over Risotto cakes. Blitzed up in the food processor and grated parmesan mixed in and then the rice squeezed into patties and coated, fried in olive oil till coating crispy and cooked through. Home made tomato sauce to go with it, it was very tasty and will be making some more for tomorrow.
Got back from shopping and there was a car parked in my space and no where else to park, folks from the house in the car park were talking to someone and I gesticulated to move it. Then I saw it was my brother in law!! When he moved it and I parked I went to see him, he was looking at their camper to see how they made the units. Talking to the lady and saying thats my BIL she said she knew him and my sister, I then got invited to look in her house to see the remodelling and building they are doing. It was the gardeners cottage to go with the house that now has my flat in, 1880s. They are making a good job of it and when done it will be a cosy place.
I take it site was down to clear the cobwebs from the system, its that time of year!!
Well dear hearts I did a "stupid" thing and bought myself another hot rod project , only problem is its 300 miles away in Scotland. My friend will collect it as I have been working on his hot rod for free, maps say 6hrs but it will be longer in his pickup and trailer. We will have to stay over night so proper road trip, his missis wants to come as well. Tues we are moving my stuff around so I can get the VW panel ready to sell. Tomorrow morning its the hot rod breakfast meet so chin wag then.
Garage cleared at mums and magazines stored in my lockup, my sister turned up while I was there so got a hair cut . She didn't believe me when I said it was 2 years since she had last cut it, took 2ins off.
Sounds like you are a busy girl.
Is the Austin done? You need to make room for the hot rod!
What happened with the hair? Getting caught up in the creeper wheels?
I can't wait to hear the details on the hot rod!
Needed cutting as it was longer than my wig! Moving the Austin Countryman to my mums garage so I can get my VW van in to my workshop to sort some body work and get it running and ready to sell. The Hereford will go on mums drive for the time being then when the VW is done the countryman will go back in my shop and Hereford in mums garage till my workshop is clear. Well thats the plan!!!
Had a nice morning at the café with the folks from the hot rod clubs, good turn out and I wont need lunch after that breakfast! Nick and Celina are up for the trip to Scotland this Friday, Celina was quite excited about it. When the universe puts everything in place you know its meant to happen.
Motors moved around with Nick's trailer ,good job Chris came and helped ! We are all pooped with the pushing and winch winding, I need a good sit down.
No trip to Scotland this weekend as the seller didn't reply to my messages till it was to late to organise, my friend said he will see when we can go in the week as we will need a stop over. Went and did some more wiring sorting yesterday, nearly done just waiting on parts.
Knock me down with a feather its Thurs shop day again ,after yesterdays downpours (lots of flooded roads the other side of the hills) its blue skies and warm temps (15C) so unlike last week the winter coat stays on the rack!
Same old going on here, not much apart from fixing the paint work on the VW panel van and getting it ready to sell. Call in on mum this morning on the way to the garage to see if she is okay. Got some green tomatoes from D yesterday to make some chutney, he would have just put them on the compost heap.
Must rush as off to Worcester village (okay its a city) to work on my mates hot rod T and hopefully finish the wiring. Finish is a bit loose as some can't be done yet but I want to get to the stage where we can remove the loom and do other work.
I felt a bit "off" yesterday, just not on my game. This morning I have come down with something, hard job coming around and now have the sniffles. Annoying as I wanted to paint the VW panel while the weather was good. Got the slow cooker on for a beef stew for tonight. At least I can get to watch the F1 from Austin Texas and still not seen the results!!
Hope I am better tomorrow as back to finish the wiring for my friend, took a lot longer to sort yesterday than expected and still have loads to sort.
Feeling better, just got a tight hat on now.
Spent 8 hrs working on the wiring yesterday on my mates hot rod, ran out of terminals so will get it finished on Mon. Thurs food shop yet again, busy when I get back with house work as have a flat inspection tomorrow. Have a few faults to report and the electrician is coming to trace the fault he found when the testing was done.
Electrician turned up early (he wanted to play the new Call of Duty out today!!) but it took him till 11 to find the 2 faults, one a broken earth wire in a socket and loose connections in another. Well at least I got to clean behind stuff in the kitchen before moving it back and the fault in the bedroom socket was behind my BIG wardrobe, good job he is a strong lad as its full!!
Flat inspection went fine, he said you are taking good care. It could still do with a deep clean but cant be bothered. Not standing on steps to clean tops of cupboards .
Found my big tomatoes in the fridge have mould on them, going to peel them and make some sauce. Talking of tomatoes I have 1.4kilos of green toms to make chutney, that is this afternoons mission.
...And another episode of "Hot Rods & Cooking with Davina." Davina, you can name each dish after your favorite hot rod. How about making a carburetor grill? It would add a whole new chapter to your cookbook.
Your book would be a "hot' seller at the meets.
Save an autographed copy for me.
Well tomato and spinach made up "curry" done , that used the tomatoes that were starting to rot and some spinach I had left over. Ate some with my chicken and spinach curry, also the green tomato chutney just filled 4 large jars so the ones mum gave me were not needed.
No internet all afternoon, just rebooted the system and so far its working. Maybe it didn't reload correctly after the power was turned on and off a few times this morning?
As my heading says life goes on, busy on getting my VW panel sorted and working on my mate hot rod. TBH not much time for anything else. As Daniel said busy people are happy people and I like what I do, back home early as chucked some paint at the panel van. Need to phone dentist and cancel my hygienist as hopping to be picking my new motor up from Scotland that day, cooking some veg in a bit.
Brain power today working out brakes and pipe runs/fittings on Nicks T , all good fun !!!
I love it when our brains work. Then I can find my glasses. :D
Thursday food shop again!! It comes round quick, still I wont need to buy anything for dinner as defrosted fish for a curry. Cloudy mild and dry today and staying the same for the next few days so will be good for Bonfire night and Diwali celebrations, lots of fire works then!!
Dull damp and cloudy this morning, makes me want to snuggle up on the sofa. Got my cant be bothered head on but need to go and see if the VW will start. There again if the CBA wins I wont!!
We have set the date for fetching the new project , 28th Nov for Scotland trip. Looks like just myself and Nick going as his wife cant get time off work, typical education dept crap as they owe her loads of hours. Nick has booked one room ! so we will be sharing, thats okay we will be fine but I hope its got 2 single beds!!
The bathtub is always a bed alternative...
That happened when we went to Gainesville to watch the drag racing, 12 of us turned up at the motel and manager had let our rooms out so we all slept in one room!! Manager got his ears cleaned out the next day by the travel company and we had free beer that night, think it was supposed to be one drink but nobody told the bar man and we kept filling jugs all night!
BTW the cant be bothered head won, TBH still feel washed out.
Celena has managed to get the time off so will be 3 of us on the car collection trip. Was going over to Nick's this morning but he has come down with the "flu/covid jab" bug and staying in bed. I know I was a bit rough 4 days after my jabs so I think it is a thing.
Good turn out at the breakfast run yesterday, few folks from our club turned up plus a lot of American cars.
Coffee and a bacon roll was good then I walked over the road to my workshop to try and start the VW, no joy as looks like a duff battery or corroded connection. Was not feeling like crawling under to check starter so went home, well I was cold by then.
Third vaginaversary day to me, 3 years !! where does the time go. Nick is still tom and dick (sick) so off to see if the VW will start. Yet another dull cloudy day, I would rather see the sun even if it meant colder.
Drat, have a cough this morning . Throat tickling/tight so staying in again as its damp and foggy. My friend is still poorly so will be next week before I go and work on his Hot Rod (stop tittering at the back kids)
You know when folk get a high powered job these days they have to have a psych evaluation ,just saying!!!
That reminds me I have a pumpkin to cook.
"folk get a high powered job these days they have to have a psych evaluation."
Sounds like it should be required for the prime minister's or president's job....
I was not inferring anything ;) ,well my cough has turned into a runny nose grrr. Have to go do a food shop as run out of stuff (why does it all run out at the same time?) , loo roll, carrots, tin chick peas and might get a whole chicken to butcher for a curry. Heavy bag to carry up 3 flights of stairs with my under powered legs, loo rolls fit in one of my bags as they stopped putting handle on the pack.
Hope to go back to Nick's next week when we both should be feeling better, same bug? not sure as he spent 3 days in bed and I just felt rough. Perhaps he had man flu!! I am immune to that now-------
Todays cooking with Davina, cardamom chicken curry. I bought a corn feed free range bird, it was cheaper than an extra large one and more weight !! Cut it into "bight sized bits" as per recipe, it was hard to separate the legs/thighs. Normal ones will bend back and break apart but not these, defo an outside reared. I boiled the carcase to make the stock needed for the curry and then picked the meat off to make farmhouse style chicken soup for dinner. The curry said reduce liquid till thick so left it on high for ages as it was still very thin, woops it is thick alright. Some bits just caught but it tasted fine. That will last me a good few days.
This "bug" is hanging on, my aunt said yesterday there is a lot going around and it takes folks a good week to get over it. Have been feeling "off" for a good week, just need the leaky washer in my nose fixed now. Slept from 11pm till 9.30am with a few disturbances and I only do that when I need to heal.
Pau bhaji for lunch, spicy mashed veg in a buttery soft roll. Indian street food, turned out very spicy so the good sweat will help rid the bug!
Hot spices should help you feel better!
Quote from: Emma1017 on November 08, 2024, 03:13:04 PMHot spices should help you feel better!
Eat them while sitting in a hot bath. ;D
Thats no good I only have a shower! Still have a sniffle this morning and its turned colder today. Must find something to do stuck in on my own ,yawn.
Put a chair in the bathroom and turn on the hot shower. Steam and a whiskey might help....and it could hurt either.
You know you have a bug when your hot and shivering, dozed all morning but whatever it was has passed now and I feel fine. Feel back to normal what ever that is!
Your immune system finished downloading the latest update which includes the latest high-tech weaponry against any virus.
Glad you are feeling better!
Back to normal, called on mum. She has taken to the air fryer, steak, potatoes, carrots and parsnips loaded ready for her lunch and cabbage and cauliflower cooking in a pan. Did some stuff to the panel van, not running yet but got it turning over.
Made a "made up" veg Paulo, have 4 or 5 recipes so took what I wanted from each one and did my own. TBH they were all very different, could have used more spice but fine as had some with my dry chicken curry. Nick is still rough from his lurgy so going over Tues to sort stuff for the hot rod T. Need details of the place they booked for the Scotland road trip to book my own room.
Success ,I got the panel van running!! Did my knees in having to kneel down to get at the engine so returned home to rest them. Still have to swop battery's back over, tighten some loose drive shaft bolts and polish the paint before its done.
Over to Nicks today to help sort room for all the hot rod T stuff, we had to move loads of workout weights, my arms are sore!! Back tomorrow to work out a list of bits. Nick has booked me a room for the Scottish trip and said he will pay for it to cover my fuel costs for going to his place. You cant beat having good friends
Now I may not be the tidiest but I like things organised ,my head was going padoing at Nicks in his workshop. All his drill bits chucked in a tin and same with his taps, took me over 1/2 hr to tap a thread . Something that would be a couple of mins work in my shop, finding the sharp correct drill and then finding a tap that would cut the thread. I am afraid I did make a few comments that at first didnt go down well but we were fine after I said its just annoying when I could have done this quicker at home.
Lots of house work needed today as well as food shop, I let things slip when I was poorly last week. Will be heavy shopping bags as well, thinking its a joint of pork and I need loads of veg and a bag of spuds.
Its only 2 weeks till the Scottish trip, just hope it doesn't snow !
Bought a BLT sarnie for lunch yesterday, not sure if it was the lettuce or the reheated rice but boy did I have an upset tummy for 2 hours. I did stop eating lettuce for that reason but the rest of the rice is going in the bin just in case. More house work today, ran out of time and vac battery to finish yesterday. Have to walk to the chemist as well to get my new patches, also need some hair dye. I know the wig covers it but dont want white/grey strands showing! No curry tonight!! cold roast pork, roast spuds and carrots and broccoli I am thinking.
When I was in school, I worked in a gas station. I ran the station alone on Sundays. When I got bored, after tuning up and lubing my $150 car for the tenth time (I loved car lifts!!!) I would organize all of the tools because I hated the chaos the guys left, like you Davina.
The guys would show up Monday and buy me lunch at the Burger King next door.
My friend Deb is off to Australia tomorrow to spend 2 months with her stunt man son tomorrow, have been trying to see her all week but every time I called she was out or no signal to her phone (its a patchy place here) . Managed to ring her this morning and will see if she is in later as she was off to see grandkids this morning. Calling on mum this morning, its hot rod club breakfast meet tomorrow when I normally call.
The doom and gloom folks are saying snow this week and be prepared, yes in the tops of mountings up north is all I suspect. At least I have 4 wheel drive in the Yeti with lock up but the normal road tyres will slow me down.
Brian rang me last night, do you want to come to my place in the morning to go to the hot rod breakfast meet as have no one to come with me. Shotgun in the Galaxy! yes please . Good turnout with sun shine if a little chilly so the side room was packed, good fried breakfast and then into the carpark to have a good chinwag.
Back home for 1pm, its turned cloudy now. Pork and green lentil curry to make in a bit.
I had intended to go to the workshop this morning before the bad weather but left leg playing up, muscle tight and pulling. No reason either from anything I did, still playing catch up on the house work anyways.
Very cold the rest of the week and costs to much to heat my workshop, nothing desperate to do anyway.
Dusting of snow here this morning, its a lot more 15miles up north with lots of schools closed. Turning to rain later and then freezing over night. Yup staying in by the fire (okay its electric but does have fake flames). I stayed snuggled up in bed till 9, shower and hair wash in a bit.
Made a pizza from scratch for lunch in the air fryer "following" a recipe in my air fryer cook book, left over dough made into rolls. Tomato passata, puree ,dried garlic and onion with dried Oregano made the sauce. Cheese and sardine topping. Was good but the stupid air fryer is not cooking food underneath ,need a better one so will see tomorrow as they have an offer in the supermarket.
Still playing catch up with the house work!!
The issue with the air fryer is that circulation is restricted because of the size. Preheating becomes particularly important. Maybe you could try a pizza stone if you could find one to fit. I needed a new microwave anyway so I bought a microwave/ air-fryer combination which is big enough to fit a full sized pizza. It takes ages to preheat though so I still think I need a pizza stone.
Not that I normally eat pizza, I do try to be more healthy! Just did it for something to do ,well its food shop day and looks like the car is froze solid. That will take a while to heat up to make it safe to drive and clear the windows and roof. Thats the trouble with diesel, they take ages to heat up but it does have a front screen defrost setting that puts any heat up the screen instead of it waiting till the engine is hot.
Extra layers on today then, might be more snow showers later. Brrrrrrrrrr
Bundle up, Davina!
Took me almost 15mins to remove the frozen snow off the roof, screen and bonnet. My hands were frozen by then, still the car was nice and warm. Ordered a refurbished Ninja air fryer from Ninja, looks like its a returned unit due to damage so it might have some scratches but at £71 instead of £145 I will take that. Anyway its still very cold out there, put the heater on in the bedroom again.
Took mum up to the bank as she had to get some cash out, CLOSED, what on a Fri!! She will have to go back on Mon but I am busy that day, so after going in the book shop (she bought 5 paper backs) I got treated to lunch. Had a mini fish and chips with mushy peas, okay but fish a bit over cooked. Forgot to drop mums prescription in on the way home, will have to wait now.
Made a fried breakfast as staying in today, its blowing a hoolie and lashing rain. If I went down the workshop I would be building an ark!!Watching the Gran Prix qualifying for Las Vegas in a moment.
The recon air fryer turned up, just plain in a box with no instruction book but found it online. Scratch marks on case ,looks like a new drawer. Will give it a go later to make a cake/pudding.
Cake still uncooked in centre underneath so had to flip it, better than the other air fryer though. Biblical rain not happened like they forecast, still very wet and windy.
Lots of floods and road closures, waiting for it to work its way down the river and close the one road out of town. Next 2 days are dry so will give it time to clear.
Not done my waist line any good stuck at home last week, on a strict diet before holiday!!!
Went over to Nick's yesterday and finished making up the brake pipes on the hot rod T, my back took some stretching to get working this morning!! Road was closed out of town when I came back due to flood so I will have to go the long way round to get to the food shop tomorrow. Sorting out stuff needed for the trip to Scotland today, wheel skates and tie down straps. have to go to my workshop to get the straps, will see if any flood damage from water running under doors.
Workshop was okay, need to scrape a channel outside the doors as soil has built up. The builders are in working on some flats, skip in one parking space and they parked their van in my space.
Food shop today as of to pick up the new hot rod build tomorrow, need to get to my friends very early and it looks like freezing fog first thing as well as start of the rush hour (that lasts over 2) . Just taking a sports bag for overnight, at least the weather will be sunny but cold.
Dropping my old air fryer off for my sisters youngest lad as he needs support. Badly dyslexic they have had to help him get a flat, he does work but in the building trade.
Have a safe trip, Davina.
I look forward to pictures of the scenery and the hot rod when you can.
One of my neighbors is from Scotland and is going there to spend the holidays with her son. I hope the weather holds and stays nice for all of you.
Long range for our holiday coach trip so far is rain, not that long range is accurate!!!
Picked up a whole free range chicken with a reduced price, its in the air fryer now. Will be okay in the fridge for when I come home Fri. Nick sent me a message, we can leave the car on the trailer and unload it Monday when we can get a hand. Fine by me. Have to be at Nicks for 8am, alarm set for 6 then---------
I saw the massive flooding from Storm Bert. So, glad that it didn't affect you. It looked pretty nasty and very dangerous.
It is amazing how many countries are getting flooded this year. So tragic.
Happy Thanksgiving to you Davina! Although you may not celebrate it where you live, have a nice day!
Chrissy
Well that was a "fun" trip up to Edinburgh, 7 hours, 300 miles . Stayed in a Motel and found a pub for a nice dinner. Set off this morning at 8.15, 10 by the time we got the car loaded and set off home. Bit of drama when we had to reposition the car on the trailer as it slipped, got back to Nicks at 6.30 due to traffic in Birmingham. Hot rod meeting in the morning so we will have something to talk about!!
Glad you had a safe return home!
Breakfast club meet this morning, good food followed by a good chat. Consensus was I am brave to take on that new build, its fine I said just welding !!!
Stood on the scales, o dear------- Think its time to get an exercise bike!!!
Wet and windy this morning, off to see mum and go down the workshop to get some stuff to unload the car tomorrow.
It took 2 hours to get the car sat on mums drive, it took some jigging about with jack and towing straps to move it off the trailer but all the wheels turn!! Cheap cover fitted and then back home to recover as I feel battered from pushing and pulling. Back at Nicks tomorrow to work on the T, all good fun and very grateful to my friends from the hot rod club that came to help.
Home made chicken soup/stew for lunch, was good if a little greasy.Should slip down easy!!
Now the fun begins!
Will you be taking "before" and "progress" photos?
I always enjoy seeing how projects of any kind progress from start to finish.
Yes, have the before shots. Nothing much will happen on this one till the panel van is sold and then the Countryman is finished so some time later next year. Will post some on the Hobbies page when I can be bothered to load to Imgar.
Have you chosen a new recipe to go with the new build???
Herefordshire beef and ale pie!!!
Went over to R's place yesterday, he races and builds old style dragsters/altereds . Spent hours talking about hot rods and stuff we got up to in the past (he is my age so with Nick 3 almost 70 year olds) . He did comment that me being trans he excepted even if he didnt understand, I said being trans does not change you as a person as such and I am still me. He had 2 dragsters being built in his shop and its a workshop to die for with all the tooling (lathe, mill and other gear).
Well its food shop day again, not much to get as off on holiday next week. Need to get some stuff for the kids (box of biscuits) to add to their presents as it will be to late when we come back. Cards and wrapping paper as well.
It all sounds very festive Davina and who doesn't like a well-tooled shop?
Todays a bust, just cant come around and feel exhausted. Should have gone down the workshop and sorted some stuff out before the next storm hits this evening. It can all wait till I come back from holiday, have a lot of sorting out/cleaning to do at home anyway. Might feel better if I have an afternoon nap, sometimes my brain needs a reboot that it didnt get when I wake up in the morning.
See the universe work in mysterious ways, I went into the kitchen to get the clothes out the washing machine and the floor was wet. Damn I thought bloody washing machine has broke but no its the hot water heater under the sink, managed to mop it up and eventually find the isolator tap to the heater as it was still leaking. Glass half full as it could have gone when I am away next week and totally flooded out as well as down stairs flats ceiling. Got on to the agents and waiting for the plumber to get it touch.
Over slept this morning but now feel "normal", mum rang and the wind has shredded my new car cover. I expected that, they reported 90mph gusts in some places .A lot of Christmas fairs ,football games and stuff cancelled this weekend.
Meanwhile back in my flat I am having a sort out/clean up day. Was going to clean/mop the kitchen floor but no need now after yesterdays flood!
Storm has abated, still windy. Mum said its killed my new car cover. Still on the house cleaning and sorting, packing my suitcase and getting ready to leave tomorrow at 7.30 am .Sister is picking me up and then collecting mum to catch the coach at 8.15, we then have to do lots more pickups before we stop for a lunch break/final pickup at 12.15 so hope my bladder holds out!!
Not sure if I will be able to post from my phone so see my readers (Lori and Emma !!) next Friday night.XXX
Maybe the coach has a thunder mug you can use. ;D
Have a safe trip and enjoy your holiday!
Safe trip. Even though I don't always comment, Im usually here.
Oh my God, bladders and buses. I was coming back from a wedding in Wales late at night (Yanks are terrible with pints) and I forced the bus driver to pull over. I hopped over a stone wall and realized that I was in a church cemetery.
I was desperate and no one complained.
Davina, I hope there are plenty of toilet stops on your trip!!!!!!!!!!!!
WE were fine, got to the hotel at 4.30 after an 8.15 start with 2 comfort breaks. Room was good, food was good and the folks on the bus were fine. Bought a few things and mum got loads of books(as usual) and I managed to fit 5 in my case so it was rather heavy to lug to the coach this morning. We are both exhausted and plump, need another hols to get over this one!
Get some rest!
Chrissy
Washing machine on, bag to unpack. They did fit my new hot water heater so thats good. Holley carb came for the Hereford, motor fresh as it still has fuel in it!! Nick rang me last night, if you come over to my place you can come with us to the Christmas meal. Very kind of them, should be a fun night.
I love when everyone starts Christmas plans and I particularly love when people are so inclusive!
It's a special time of year.
Was a good party last night, recovery day now.
As long as you have a safe landing after the party!
I rely on sleep, a solid breakfast, and no power tools...
Just had a sofa day catching up on the Strictly come Dancing final that I missed going out, the person that won was blind and I hoped he would win. The joy on the other finalists at him winning is something to see.
Back at "normal" today, had to get under the Countryman (go wash your brain out!) to measure the drive shaft sizes. That was "fun" in mums tiny 60s garage .
Quote from: davina61 on December 16, 2024, 10:34:59 AMhad to get under the Countryman (go wash your brain out!) to measure the drive shaft sizes.
Sometimes, Davina, I have to read what you wrote a couple of times. Wait. What did she say?
There is nothing wrong with a nice Countryman with a good-sized driveshaft.
Apparently size does matter, for driveshafts on cars.
Cup size too, if you want a large cup, of coffee.
Made me chuckle, over slept ! Well woke early and put radio on and listened to the news and a bit of the local radio breakfast show. Next thing I woke up again!
Bit dull and cloudy this morning, off down the workshop again as need to drag that beetle engine out and rebuild it for sale.
Measuring the driveshaft on your countryman! I have to get my mind out of the gutter. :D
"Measuring the driveshaft on your countryman!" Hmmmmm Gina you probably will find many of us in the gutter with you!!!!
Do they still make the Countryman brand/model of cars?
Its an Austin from 1951, countryman was the estate version. As a brand its been long gone due to bad management, poor quality due to lack of development (lack of money) and union action.
Turned windy again and a bit rainy but warm with high of 14C !! Tomorrow back to 7C and some frost first thing. This weather is all over the place. Today I will mostly be cleaning engine parts, pass the rubber gloves.
Knickers, come down with some lurgy. Sore throat and tight chest and feel like poo, not man flu as went food shopping!! Its my Christmas shop, 4 bags full and 2 trips up stairs and still have a box of beer and some wine to carry up. Mum got a turkey (that was a bag full) that weighs 5kilo, about 3.5 hrs cooking time so up early Christmas morning. We will share up whats left over and that will last a few good days. Time for some more cough mixture, almost got my voice back.
For Thanksgiving when we had kids at home to feed, I would cook the turkey the night before.
Do this before going to bed. Put the turkey in a covered pan and stick it in the oven at 500 F for one hour. Then turn it off and go to bed. Leave the oven closed to hold in the heat. The next morning, the turkey is done and the oven can be used for other things like pies that do not require such a long cook time. Just reheat before serving.

You know those Countrymen didn't come with "cup holders" as standard kit? What a shame :)
Silly me.
My one does, I added one to it!!
Had a good sleep and better today, damn YPN decided to update and wreck my laptop again this morning and then a windows update. 3/4 of an hr waiting till it sorted itself out!!!!
Have to walk to the chemist this morning and collect my patches and get some stuff I forgot yesterday in my food shop. Daughter just messaged back so off to see them Sunday.
Glad you're feeling better. Holiday colds are the worst.
You can't have a car today without a cupholder and a phone charger.
Get some rest Davina. Have a nice Friday!
NOS BMW cup holder that slides out the dash, it was going in the skip when we moved workshops. Made some tasty chicken soup farmhouse style, used some of the chicken from the Korma and a pot of frozen homemade stock with carrots and potato. Reduced price roll from the shop as well, forgot to get some stuffing mix.
Off to see my daughter and her brood Sunday, just need to see when I can see the boys now.
Still grotty from this cold bug, hope I am okay for tomorrow but waiting to see when to come over tomorrow morning to the daughters. Messaged the boys, youngest replied but didnt know when I could go over as he said he has changed jobs (thanks for letting me know!) and still waiting on the eldest to reply. Might have to resend as being a plumber/kitchen/bathroom/gas fitter he is always busy. The band he plays drums in released a Christmas single and video of Run Run Rudolf, look up Wood Burnt Red for a laugh.
Lots of cards and stuff to do today, was hoping to do them yesterday but felt to poorly. Mum said the ex has given her a card for me still dead named so I am putting Sandra on her card instead of Sandie!! and my name in capitals underlined. Got her the cheapest bottle of rose~ wine (cant find how to do the little tick on the e on here) I could find!!
How about an empty bottle of rose for your ex with a special message for here in the bottle?
We do "get on" okay when I speak to her, not that I go out of my way to! Eldest says he is going to daughters tomorrow morning so I will see him then.
Just checked out the video. The band rocks!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmxalJn6dZ0
My eldest on drums and yes they do a great live set. If you liked that listen to some of their original songs.

They play like the Beatles?
Country rock, they have played at the UK Country award ceremony 2 years running and lots of festivals/gigs. Loads of tracks on down load sites.

That sounds good. Good for them!
Chrissy
All the kids and grandkids turned up at my daughters this morning, nice to see my youngest's 2. Bit of madness for a while! Presents delivered or so I thought till I got back home and found all the cards still on my table. Bl**dy cold messing my head up, now have to work out how to get them to them.
Sounds like another Christmas road trip unless you trust the mail service...
Mum has dropped them of at the ex's, she will see them. Crashed out on the sofa for an hour and feel better (for a while) . Did a daft thing, entered the countryman in a car show thats a few miles away. Its in April so need to see if I can get it running, they dont mind if its not finished which is a good job as I need lots of bits. Might have to trailer it, folks in the hot rod club have offered to help if I need a hand with anything.
Better today, still coughing up junk though. Chefing today, have salmon en cruet to make and cook for the starter (reheated tomorrow) ,pigs in blankets and stuffing bacon rolls to prep, veg to part cook, cauliflower cheese to make ready to go in the oven and the turkey to prep (butter under skin, onion and herbs in cavity and bacon on top) sat in tin ready to go in the oven in the morning. Good clean and tidy as well.
MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, got carried away prepping stuff and burnt the pastry on the salmon. Must get a timer!!!!
Merry Christmas, Davina.
Get well soon. You've got work to do, dear! ;D
Merry Christmas!
Chrissy
Merry Christmas Chrissy , good job I have this Albas oil as its keeping my breathing clear. Tried the end of the salmon and it tastes okay.
Well thats all done and dusted, had to have a rest after eating and only managed 1/2 of it. Mum took a load of food back with her and I think I have enough to last to next year!
My sister got me an apron and an apple corer, Eldest got me some sweets and a hamper full of goodies that when the contents are gone will look great in the back of the Hereford hot rod. Daughter had a photo of the grandkids made into a "snow dome", mmmmmmmm nothing from the youngest.
Looks like my cold/chest infection is going, slept well. Turkey cooked very well, as I tried carving it was just falling to pieces as all the bones just fell out! Tidy up and have a Jalfrezi to make using up the left over turkey. They were talking about a left over pie on the radio this morning, chuck all the left over veg cut up into small bits along with the meat and gravy in a dish and top with pastry. 20mins in the oven and serve up you Christmas pie!!
Well I hope my reader had a very good Christmas and are not to hungover today
In next doors garden they have a target set up for bow and arrows, as well as the roundels there is also 3 faces of a certain red faced US bloke!!!!!
That new chopping knife mum bought me for Christmas is super sharp, makes cutting up stuff easy. Yup just touched the blade chopping onion and cut my finger, just nicked it so nothing serious and its sealed up already. Jalfrezi cooked, at least 5 good meals worth!
Davina's ailment blog!!! I suffer from dry skin (my dad had eczema ) and get dry cracked heels. Had to fill the split in my left heel with snow fire (splits and cracks in hand treatment waxy paste) as it was painful to stand on. Hard to walk around just on the ball of your foot! Its working but I know it will take a few days to heal. Still blowing glue out my sinus and coughing up gunk but getting clearer. Hope to make it down the workshop tomorrow as given myself loads to do.
I suffer from dry skin as well. Tried every hand moisturizer, to no avail. This year my heals are all cracked and split. I've heard hard water can do this but we have yet to invest in a softener. Hope you feel better.
I have some heel cream from the chemist that works just forgot to put some on when it felt tight. I see O'Keiths now do a foot cream, thats an American brand??
Still sorting out after Christmas! Making a pie filling to freeze to use up the turkey and veg and having a sort out in the kitchen. It has been very foggy the last few days but supposed to clear today. Overslept big time, 10am when I got up! Breathing still a bit tight but looks like its clearing at last so hope I feel okay to go to the workshop tomorrow. Not good for the diet but have pate, cheese, pickle and cracker assortment to use for lunch. Should not have bought the 3 small rounds of cheese but in Jumanji style cheese is my weakness. Talking of movies I watched West Side Story yesterday afternoon as it was on telly, what a classic. I do like a good musical, Singing in the Rain, South Pacific and all .

Do you have a big freezer?
Chrissy
No just a 4 drawer under the fridge, I have enough room for the big container if I move some stuff around. Steamed some carrot, potato, cauliflower and broccoli. Good handful of spinach in the container, hot veg on top to wilt it then left over white sauce and gravy topped off with chopped turkey. Should fit my big Pyrex oblong dish, roll of ready made pastry on top. That will last a few days.
Exploring the contents of big chest freezers can be like architectural digs.
Friends have said they have found dated packages really old as they dig out layers of frozen foods in their older relatives' freezers.
Hence if I ever get a freezer, it will be vertical for one thing for what I think would be easier use; but, I will not allow myself to keep anything more than a year old. If I have not used it in a year, it will likely either be bad or I would not ever use it.
Chrissy
I keep telling mum to cycle the stuff in her freezer, who knows how old some of it is? 3 months is the longest they say to keep stuff . Chicken stock and some pork chops are the oldest in my freezer.
Made it to the workshop, stopped of at mums and my sister was there. Brother in law has come down with a cough, no sympathy from my sister!! I managed to get the VW engine bottom end together, have to set the crank end float next but my dial gauge is broke.

Is that an expensive gauge to replace?
Quote from: ChrissyRyan on December 29, 2024, 01:04:23 PMIs that an expensive gauge to replace?
I think that is the British word for "clock". ;D
(or is it a caliper for precision measuring?)
I was thinking it may be like a micrometer.
A dial gauge is a type of micrometre, round gauge with a needle and scale driven by a plunger. I dropped it and its bent some place so sticks.
Plans messed up for today, woke early and heard my lads band played on local BBC radio as they are featured band of the week in the Introducing slot. Trouble was I went back to sleep and woke late (again) and cant come round. Also coughing up chunks again so stayed home to try and recover.
Better again today and slept properly, did dream about building a wooden frame house and telling the folks building it to use joist hangers to hold it together. Weird! Stayed at home again, bit peed of as looks like the VW engine I am building will be no good as the rear main bearing is moving in the case. Engine case is scrap and I was hoping to sell a built engine to raise money to get a V8 for the new car. Always the same for me, never enough money and its not like I need loads just a little.
That's all the Christmas cake ,mince pies and nearly all the cheese and crackers disposed off. Not good for the waist line! Back on the eat sensible tomorrow!
Stayed up to see the New Year in, London put on a good firework display (no wonder their house tax went up 70%) .Watched Sophie Ellis-Bextor's (murder on the dance floor) new years party till 12.30 so was gone 9 when I got up this morning. Calendar to mark up all the birthdays on now (I can never remember them all) but its a laid back day, hope my reader has a good time!
Davina,
I hope you have a very nice year.
Plus no more broken gauges or lost tools and no major car trouble. Good health too. Fun times.
Chrissy
Thanks Chrissy, well winter has turned up. Frozen car this morning and its first food shopping Thurs of the year, long range said cold all next week and thats a bummer as want to get my panel van sorted.
Freezing again today, 9.50 and cant decide if I want to go to my very cold workshop. Need to sort some twin Webber carbs out as I might have a sale but its only 2C and I cant afford to heat my workshop. Well I say cant afford but would rather spend the money elsewhere. Band of snow forecast for tomorrow as well as a warm wet system hits the cold air, 11C on Sunday with rain so might wait till then. Also this cold thing I have is still hanging on a bit and I dont want to make it worse.
Cooked some coconut tartlets as had some pastry left over from the pie, checked them after recipe time and pastry still raw in bottom so put them back in and over cooked them. Still taste okay, have a pint of milk to use up as well. Not sure what to make with that, Semolina?
Now my reader knows I have a tendency to go back to sleep when I wake in the morning, well this morning it was a record!! Woke at 7.30 and put the radio on, listened to the news at 8 and next thing I knew it was 10.30 ! Day home then so washed my hair, made scrambled eggs and toast for "brunch" and its 12.30 and still catching up on the lap top. Still frosty outside ,looks like the snow will miss us tonight and its warmer tomorrow like 5C and wet.
Davina, this all sounds like a perfect winters day, tea, biscuits, blanket and TV! Enjoy!
I wait to see what the weather will do tonight, mum rang and said stay in if bad.
Davina,
Have you ever worked on Morgan brand cars?
Do you see any?
Chrissy
Have you seen remnants of either of the two Roman walls over there?
Hadrian's Wall which was built in Northern England, and
Antonine Wall, which was built in Scotland?
The Romans had a vast empire. They made some amazing things, they seem quite advanced for their time.
Chrissy
Only Morgan cars I had anything to do with were for annual safety checks (MOT) , not been that far north but seen some Roman remains in a few places and yes they were good builders.

The Romans used good tools. Plus a lot of manpower.
The Romans even made a mountain sized ramp at Masada. Lots of manpower was required.
Chrissy
It is interesting that some societies used harder rock to carve softer rocks.
Egyptians at times used some rock harder than granite to cut away on granite. I do not think there is a record of them using diamonds. It must have been hard and boring work to make those one piece solid granite obelisks, cutting away by using just harder rocks.
Others in later centuries used copper tools to cut rock like sandstone, granite, and limestone.
@davina61 Dear Davina:
Next time you go outside in the cold, please make certain that you wear some good warm gloves....
stay inside as much as possible and stay warm in the freezing cold weather that you are having.
HUGS, Danielle [Northern Star Girl]
Quote from: davina61 on November 21, 2024, 11:46:13 AMTook me almost 15mins to remove the frozen snow off the roof, screen and bonnet.
Only a thin cover of snow here, reporter said a couple of inches on the to of the hills. Turning to rain later and warming up, not sure if I am going out yet. Still coughed up some rubbish this morning ,hope that was some remnants and infection has cleared.
The snow here has slowed down and should end today. We have about a foot on the ground. When I woke up this morning, it was brutally cold. It has now warmed up to 5F (-15C), but we won't see the sun until tomorrow. Today is a good day to stay indoors and do laundry.
We're lucky here in NYC. The storm is heading south of us and we may get a dusting.
Danielle you are a true pioneer transgender woman!
Davina all of your mothers here at Susan's are right: stay warm, stay inside, and drink hot tea!!!
No washing or cooking today, yawn---------
I was going over to my mates to work on the T but he has had to cancel as he has caught the lurgy now. Went to the workshop yesterday and it has water run under the door again due to the stupid amount of rain Sun night, nothing damaged but floor is to wet to do any work on the panel van. 2 more days staying home then, very cold today and tomorrow freezing all day.
Stay warm, dry, and healthy, Davina.
Spring is coming. I hope. ;D
Cant wait Lori as I have lots of work to do.
Hard frost this morning, glad I am staying in. Getting bored though, bed to change and washing to do but that's not much time taken up.
That didn't take long, now very bored. Even keyboard bashing not helped---------
Davina,
I would consider watching a movie perhaps.
Chrissy
My mind is starting to wander and I am working. I must focus. Better go.
Have a nice afternoon!
Chrissy
Sold some carbs and manifolds for a VW , bloke coming to pick them up sometime this afternoon so have to go to the workshop. Hope my space heater works as its only just above freezing today. Food shop in a bit, will have to scrape the windscreen on my car first. Good job it has heated seats!
Ah yes, heated seats can be quite nice this time of year.
Chrissy
Even had to scrap ice of the inside of screen, not to bad out as the sun is full on.
Fet up chmuk again today (as they say around here in local dialect) , freezing fog giving what they call a hoar frost on power cables and trees. Staying in the warm again, not helping me lose any weight though!
Sold some parts so now I can buy 2 engines and a gearbox for the new hotrod build, bit of a quandary though as I could buy the bits I need to finish some work on the Countryman. But then once the panel van is sold I can get those bits where as I can get the engines for a very good price that I doubt will happen again. mmmmm.
Feezing frog again, -3C last night but in Scotland it was -14C . Panic call from mum, my gas is about to run out and they cant deliver till Sunday and my electric fires not working. She ordered the gas bottles on 27th Dec and they are so busy they are working 7days a week to get the orders out, well she has nearly emptied the next 2 bottles. Back to the electric fire, it has 3 switches that turn on low, high and on. After getting cross with her as she didnt understand that they turned the heat off I got her to turn them on and it works! I would have got her to turn of the hot water tank to save gas but there is no way that she would understand even though she has been shown before. She is just useless with tech, well she will be 89 in March.
Bit of house work to do today, veg to cook for dinner and a parcel to sort . Starting to warm up from tomorrow afternoon and will be double figure temps Mon so will be down my workshop.
My dad was great with 'old' tech, pre-calc (before calculators). Restoring cars, rebuilding engines. He could even dowse for water. He was a navigator in the US Air Force long before GPS. Looking at the stars through a window at night while flying over water to determine the correct course to their airfield. He never owned a computer, even a smart phone confused him. A simple flip-phone was his pinnacle of technical achievement, as long as he didn't have to text or type anything. He was from a different time, and we will all be there at some point in our lives.
Love always -- Jess
Yes mum has a basic flip phone and she cant text! I even have to remove messages, "Dav the red lights flashing!" . Had a look at my reclining sofa, mechanism has cut through one of the elasticated straps and part through another. Need some strong thread and the bagging needles from my workshop to tension and join them.
Mums gas turned up this morning thank goodness! Still cold today but warmer tomorrow and rest of the week. Cooking some chicken thighs to add to a veg curry I forgot was in the freezer, my own made up fusion !!
Curry will definitely warm your cockles. It would set mine on fire!
I may try some beef curry the next time I have it.
It will have veggies in it too.
The thing is its only as hot as you make it if you do it from scratch, the paste/sauce in the jars is nothing like if you made it yourself(full of chemicals and preservatives).
So over slept big time, woke up again at 9.30. Not rushing, trust in the universe as it must have been for a reason. Need to weld some aluminium together today for the hot rod T, the extra sleep must have been so my dodgy eye has rested!!

It is good to get some rest.
made a cock up welding some alloy plate for my friends hot rod T, halfway through I picked up the wrong filler rod. My welding mask and my glasses kept steaming up as well, yes alloy doesn't like stainless steel filler rod!! Today we are making up the fuel line I think and it will be okay for that but will need a new one. Blue sky and gentle breeze this morning, 9C forecast .Time to put the working gear on now .
Fuel lines made and fitted, braided hose is a PIA to fit to the unions. The stainless outer braid is razor sharp and has to be flared out ,stabbed my fingers and cut my thumb. Not using that on my car!!!
Very foggy on the way home, will still be here tomorrow for shopping.

OUCH!!!
Healed up this morning, woke late, battery flat on laptop and taken 25mins to load and internet slow. What a good start to the day! Still the fog has lifted and its blue sky again.
Picked up Nick and we drove over to see Roy and collect my shortened drive shafts yesterday, bit of a trek to get there as its just into Shropshire! My car was playing up, sticking EGR valve again so will try some fuel cleaner to see if that works. Just put some washing on, bit out off balance as the whole flat shook! Still "got my own back" on the flat below who put the washing machine on late (9.30pm) and shake my sofa.
Stuff to do at home today, food to cook, that washing to do and some online paper work to sort (if I can be arsed). Its cloudy and damp out and they say only 4C, back catching as well so not going to the workshop.
Snotty this morning and feeling grotty, its cold and damp again so staying in. Might make some biscuits just to post in who's cookies are these!!
Made some ginger biscuits (cookies) ,last thing to add to ingredients was golden syrup. Found I didnt get a new one when I used it up so put in honey, it worked. Cooked them in the air fryer, had to turn them over to cook under side. Crunchy on the out side and softish in the middle , was going to post pic but its a faff. Okay. TY.
Just imagine some misshapen brown blobs, that saved a post! Called on mum, she had got me 2 pans. I wanted pans with metal handles so they could go in the oven, not exactly what I was after but now have a medium frying pan and a wok that can go in the oven.
Built up the drive shafts, got through 4 pairs of gloves as the grease is messy. Sorted stuff on the drag bike so its all together and time to go home.
Spent today at Nicks trying to work out what bits are needed to rebuild the 4 Weber carbs, very expensive! Also trial fitted the seats to work out where stuff will go. Back again tomorrow to sort some more.
Traffic was bad getting to the way back, strange as it was before rush home time. 35mins to do a 20min trip!
My knees/legs were playing up after kneeling down to work on the drag bike yesterday, hope they are better by tomorrow.
I got a message from my ex yesterday saying her dad had passed on Monday, he made it to his late 90s and had been unwell for a few years. I sent her a hug back and got a thank you!
I need to burn some calories, spent the day at Nicks again working on the hot rod T. Its not graft at the moment just working out where stuff fits and making aluminium interior panels fit. I ate my porridge for breakfast, had a small mince pie with a cup of green tea lunchtime and a small bowl of pork and mushroom curry with a mini nan bread for dinner so how come I have put weight on??
After food shop today I spent the afternoon sorting out the collection of the engines, lots of email back and forth and sorting payment and they should be with me on Monday. More keyboard work tomorrow as need to fill in the form for local council to receive my housing benefit, brain will be fried downloading bank statements and getting them loaded onto form. Wish I was better at this computing stuff!
Bought some "fresh" pineapple chunks as they were reduced price with yesterdays use by date. Made a pineapple upside down cake, tested my new oven proof fry pan by frying the pineapple first then putting the sponge cake mix on top and into the oven. Worked fine and turned out on a plate without sticking!
The Atlantic storm is moving in, very windy now so hope it dies down by the time I have to go to the dentist late afternoon. So roads blocked by fallen trees they said on local radio.
Well that's my 2 brain cells fried, tried to download bank statements but system would not let me copy/paste or upload to online form. "Cheated" by downloading print file and that uploaded! Just hope it works their end.I HATE computers
Well I just got mugged, went to the dentist for a check over (fine apart from a broken filling ,wanted £75 to refill and she said my x-ray from last time shows some rot in a place they cant fill) then the hygienist did a cut and buff and that cost £78 !!! I cant afford the fill and the holed tooth will have to be pulled, so I will wait till it hurts.
Ouch!
Can you use a temporary filling for now? You don't want it getting infected.
I got some temporary filling paste at the drugstore. Over the counter, so no prescription is needed. I keep it on hand in case of just such an emergency. So far, I have been lucky and have not needed it.
Not sure you can get that in the UK, thing is its not bothering me at the moment.
Head over to your workshop and whip up a batch of epoxy! Just kidding! ;D
The brand name is DenTek and I got it at Walgreens. There are other brands too, but that is the one I have.
I think it might be under the gum so not reparable, clear sky this morning but cold. Must remember to drop my youngest's birthday card of with the ex as I forgot it last Monday and not been that way since. Birthday was on Wed but I did message him.
Well apart from one rain storm for 30mins we missed the bad weather as it went further north than they thought, lots of damage in Ireland and Scotland. Wet on and off next week so they say.
Didn't completely miss the south as we were on our way to Bristol Airport at 3am and the A38 was blocked by a fallen tree
I am looking forward to better weather.
Well it was calm today but cold, got to 2 pm and I started feeling chill even with a small fan heater on. Had to call in on Deb as she has returned from seeing her son in Australia, some nice pics and the beach at Cairns looks lovely. Right its time to cook my dinner!
Have a good meal!
Chrissy

Walgreens owns Boots I think so if Walgreens stocks it, maybe Boots does in its stores as well as online.
At home today as my back giving me grief again, think it was from lifting the back of the drag bike to move it over out of the way. Pills helping but it was a job to stand upright first thing, hope better tomorrow as have the 2 engines and gearbox turning up on a pallet that will need moving into my workshop.
Oh Davina please be very careful when lifting. I have gotten used to squatting then using both arms as I use my leg power too to lift things by hand.
Hugs,
Chrissy
Be careful Davina. Even small engines are heavy. Girl muscles don't lift as much!
I agree with Chrissy, Davina, be careful with your back. I have spent many days laying on the floor with a bad back.
A friend has gone to Turkey three times for dental work for her and her husband. The savings paid for the trip and the dental work was excellent according to her.
She was lucky, there are some horror stories about the standard of care and work over there. Its an old injury that gets troublesome ,it can go out just moving gently sometimes like reaching for stuff thats just in front.
Glad I stayed in anyway as there was almost horizontal sleet lunchtime!!!!
Hugs to you

Mega lie in this morning, woke at 6 ,put radio on and was getting up at 8. Well that was the plan but it was 10 when I came around again. Back is still a bit stiff, tight/sore muscles after moving stuff yesterday. Weather forecast was for heavy showers today but its been dry so far!
Still bed needs changing, must get something out freezer to cook Thurs and other house work to do. A womans work is never done!!
Nothing stupendous going on here, spent yesterday rebuilding Weber carbs at Nicks only to find the manifold he has does not fit the super doper heads on the engine. I have a plan! Shopping this morning ,had to shout and push mum as she walked behind an electric car that had its reverse lights on. She is very unobservant, makes me worry about her driving. Changed the bed,did some washing(running out of knickers!) and some cooking. Just a normal day TBH.
I hope nobody here had any relatives or friends on board that airplane.
Well yet again the US leader has shown what a numpty he is, dont worry as the UK has a similar problem (numpty PM) . Its a shame we cant quote Star Fleet regulation 50-25-04, officer unfit for duty!!!
Ate too much yesterday, demi baguette filled with chicken and pickle, 4 spring rolls (reduced with todays date so cooked them) and a big bowl of home made beef and veg stew with some ice cream for pudding. Not eating today, well not as much!

They were fine ,bit light on filling!! Stayed in as I keep sneezing and have a slight runny nose, starting to clear now so might have been my hay fever/allergic reaction . If so dont know what to as nothing new about.
Took the opportunity to renew my driving licence on line, was easy but my photo could do with an update.
Mmmmmmmmmmm might just finish that tub of ice cream!
New battery on the panel van and some more cleaning done, all the camping gear ready to take home. Will do that tomorrow when D will be out he way. Its ready to swop with my Austin soon .
Gave Deb a lift to the pub to pick her car up, she went for a drink with friends and was only going to have a 1/2 but had to get a taxi home at 11pm!

Not that I was going down the workshop today as sort of stuck for thing to do, well to make the trip worthwhile but my nose is running yet again. Taking this opportunity to cook something for Tues on dinner as well, have a pack of minced (ground for the US!) beef but not sure what it will be yet.
Looks like it will be Kofta (Indian meat balls) in a sauce.

Is this another "pay to give me money" scam?
Like the "convenience charge," my property manager adds to my rent if I pay by card. It isn't convenient for me, so I write a check free of charge.
So for £10 you can walk out with £100 of goods?
From generated AI summary:
"Aldi has implemented a £10 pre-payment system for shoppers entering its checkout-free store in Greenwich. This pre-payment, or deposit, is taken from the customer's payment card before they can enter the store. The £10 amount is deducted from the final shopping cost when the customer leaves.
However, if the customer does not spend at least £10, they may have to wait several days or longer for a refund, as the timing of the refund is controlled by the customer's card issuer. This system applies to both app users and those who use contactless card payments."

The stores may work similarly to Amazon Go stores in Seattle. There you walk in, get your items, and walk out. Computers bill your arranged payment method that you setup on your first visit to the store.

I'm starting to hate technology. Soon we won't have cash and we won't be able to buy a newspaper without the government knowing who bought it, when and where. I think that we should vote with our feet and stop buying from businesses that mess us around.
During the periods when I lived in England as a child, my family were among the majority that did not have a refrigerator, a telephone or central heating and I spent several weeks in a house without a bath or indoor toilet. Home computers and mobile 'phones were science fiction. To keep food cool, we put it on a slab of stone in the pantry. There must still be many who remember the same. We don't need all that stuff.
I do have some woolly mammoth hair but I bought it, I didn't find it on the slab of stone in the pantry, honest.

Me too. I worked as a programmer so I have an excuse ... as did everybody who used my programs. I would advocate smashing them all (the computers) but then how would we log in to Susan's?
There is a lot of good technology and a lot is put to good use.
There is some questionable technology and then using it can be questionable.
My grandparents that lived in the middle of common land had no main water or electric, they did build a bathroom on the side of the house eventually. They sold soft fruit and cherries from the orchard and gardens and grew their own veg, kept chickens and ran a tea garden. Home made scones and cake with home made jam and the best cup of tea made with the well water (Malvern water) . I can remember the range with the huge kettles steaming on it . They did have mains water and electric in the end.
Food shop day again, good job as run out of bread and cheese---------
Good frost this morning, looks like we have the same for next week as well but at least its dry and will give the ground a chance of drying out after all the storms.
I will say this here but if anyone want to post this thought your welcome.
To all Americans remember you great grandparents and grandparents gave their lives fighting against this scum.
My great-grandfather left Canada and came to the US. He married a local gal in New York State. No visas, no customs inspections, no border security. My whole family are illegal aliens!
They weren't even Canadians. The family left Leeds, England when great-grandpapa was only three years old. They did go through customs and immigration in Ontario, then settled in the small town of Schomberg near Toronto. Many of the family are buried in a family plot in a cemetery in Toronto.
Lots of children were "exported" to Canada to be "adopted" , was child labour.
Well its been 8 years since I found this wonderful place and as much as I "dont need it" for help I will continue to ramble on . Bless you all, as Dave Allen used to say may your god go with you.
Stayed home, its cold and dank. Might get a "job" doing some wiring on a mk2 Ford Escort that has a Zetec ST 190 engine swop. Waiting on a phone call from the owner, quite technical I suspect as has an after market ECU.
Cooked a Daalcha (meat and veg) using beef chunks and courgette, batch cook that will last 4 or 5 days.
While stationed in Germany, there was a guy in my unit who would put Porsche engines in Volkswagens. He would find wrecked Porsches and VWs with blown engines and do the swap. He had a nice side business doing that. ;D
These days its cheaper to upgrade the VW engine like we did with the drag beetle, you an make a 2000cc for less than the cost of a Porche lump.

Is a Rover the same as a Range Rover?
Do you ever work on 16 cylinder engines?
"Well its been 8 years since I found this wonderful place and as much as I "don't need it" for help I will continue to ramble on." and this place is better for your company Davina!
Thanks Emma I can say the same for you. Chrissy yes same engine as in early Range Rover from a 50s Buick design. Most cylinder engine I have worked on is a Jag V12, PIA to change spark plugs as it takes over an hour!
CBA again this morning, my bed was way too cosy!! Still dull and damp, not heard back from the guy that want electrics sorting. Not that bothered but could have been a nice bit of folding.
Have a nice weekend Davina!
Keep warm.
Chrissy
Still orrid out side (thats my spelling!) but have stuff to do at the workshop and call on mum first. Looks like it will be like this most of next week ::) .
I had a customer who was restoring an old dragster that took 2 v8 motors and hooked them crank to crank with a special ignition to keep them firing at the same rpms. Not sure if he ever completed the project.
Now thats proper old school stuff!! The new battery charger works and I repaired a VW indicator switch that the wires had been cut off, good job the wires were in an ignition switch housing.
It is nice when things get fixed.
I need to put it in the post but my back hurting again and cant stand upright at the moment, might be from the 13hrs I was in bed. Yes woke at 6 and put radio on then fell asleep again!! Sinus blocked as well and now its clearing (pass the tissues) so with it only just above freezing I am staying in again. Roll on spring.
Got some fresh air today and walked up town to post that parcel, resisted the temptation to go in the small supermarket to see if any "bargains"! Hot Rod club get together tonight, bit of a trek to the pub so my mate said he would give me a lift from his place. That will save some fuel, back at his tomorrow to do more work on the hot rod T.
Roll On, Davina! Hot Rod T. Is it a T bucket?
Yes, 27 T glass body with a 540 HP 427 small block. That will be "fun" on the road!! Well hot rod club meeting last night was well attended, Sue came as well. She is JMs wife, the one that was building the T before he got dementia it was good to see her out and having a good time. Not gone to Nicks today as he was behind in some jobs so nothing for me to do, we arranged to move my car next Tues so hope the weather forecast is right! I was naughty as had dinner (small bowl of curry) before going but it was burger night at the pub so I had a cheese burger. Now this was a proper burger ,2 thick (like nearly 1/2inch each) patties with cheese either side and loads of fries with dipping sauce and a pint of larger for £12.50. Discount price for burger night, we decided that we will meet every 2nd Tues of the month and then we have the breakfast meets as well.
So "stuck" at home again, clothes wash on and might make a veg pie filling later. Could be some chicken added when I do shopping tomorrow. Now going to watch Bad Chad you tube I missed last night.
You won't keep that in a straight line! Can you imagine the torque with no weight on the rear? Wowser! The 427 design is fantastic, but a stroked 350 puts out the same power with less weight. Not that that matters in a T-Bucket. That 427 just looks huge in open bay engine compartments. That fiberglass body isn't intended for comfort either. Not that the Model T was ever known for it.
I love the car crowd too. I've never built a rod. Although I am envious of the creativity and skill it takes to build a custom. Always seem to gravitate for smooth and quiet done as original or resto mod/originals. I did opt for custom pipes on the 210, just like would have been done back in the day. The 235 six isn't fast with its column shift 3spd, but it is very drivable, burbling down the road.
'56 Chevrolet 210
'65 Impala SS
'57 Silver Cloud
The 427 is a small block made by Blueprint, also the T has a Jag independent rear axle.
Good choice! I have three Jags. That independent rear is the bomb for power transfer!
Is there anybody there? Bit quite on here today! Made a chicken and veg pie, bought a cooked chicken and 2 rolls of short pastry. Used up odds and ends of veg from the fridge and made a white sauce with a chicken stock cube in it, pastry just fitted the bottom of my large Pyrex oblong dish. Layer of chicken then filled it with cooked veg with the sauce on top followed by the pastry lid coated with egg. Had some pastry left after trimming as well as some of the cooked veg so made a veg pasty. Had 1/2 with my dinner, that was the last of the turkey Jalfrezi.

There's nobody here but us chickens.
Peeing down with moisture again and cold but not cold enough for snow thank goodness, Debs rang me and then face timed me. She ended up going to the eye department at hospital with myopia, they said how did you manage to walk in like that as it was a reading of 90!!! and if she had left it a bit longer she would have gone blind in that eye. Shes a bit like JFK and not trust doctors but good job she went, I gave her a telling off!! J and C are there looking after her so she is well looked after.
Proper late getting up this morning, by the time I showered and washed my hair it was 10.15. Playing chase the vacuum in a bit and wash some towels.

Well best laid plans and all that, was going to move the Austin tomorrow but C has an emergency dental. Rearranged for Wed now, C is always negative about stuff. We cant move the other car out the way with flat tyres (they are rotten) ,well we moved it before!
Davina watch your back if you try to move the car with four flats! Find some young backs to help!
4 old farts doing it! Putting the wheel skates back under so hope they work.
So repaired the wheel skates and oiled them, jacked it up and refitted them and then pushed it out the way on my own!! So much for C saying we wont move it, did use a long crowbar to get the front to move. What is the saying "give me a long enough lever and I can move the world". Filled a bin bag with rotten carpets and trim, leaf mould and broken glass. Just hope we get this all moved before the rain later today.
The lever is quite the machine.
Well that went relatively easy, Hereford in mums garage and Countryman back in the workshop. Panel van back on mums drive as well. Help from 4 hot rod club friends was much appreciated. Mum took her car for annual inspection (MOT) and it passed once they fitted a drive shaft gaiter clip, one less think for me to sort out then!
Some days want to make you "kick the cat", had one of them mornings. Had to turn around and go the other way out my road as work truck and flashing lights behind it, no working in progress or road closed sign. Went up the high street and got blocked by a lorry then once past the road work temp traffic light got stuck behind some numptys doing 35 to 40 MPH all the way to town. Every one getting in my way in supermarket but they had some of the Indian Chai and ginger tea I like so got 3 packets. Got to the till and my Ap didnt want to load, took ages. Stuck behind some more "have to drive really slow folks" on the way home as it had rained a tiny bit (oh my god my car will skid of the road, no it wont!) but will trade that for the parking space out side the Chemist so I could get new patches.
Home and relax now, ahhhhhh

Yes Chrissy and when I walk in its "hi Davina"!!! Got some antiseptic cream and cod liver oil capsules as well. Blowing a Hooley today and bursts of rain later but warm 12C . Off to see if I can get some stuff done on the Austin now its in the shop.
It is interesting that in some European countries that if you go to a drugstore you likely are going to a sundry or general merchandise store. To get a prescription filled, or even many over the counter medicines, you have to go to an apothecary.
Well bit of an upset this morning, took me an hour to lever the lift under the Austin and get it set up. Then I checked the size of the drive shafts I had shortened, ********* got that wrong as they are too short. More annoying is the waste of funds. Slightly peed off now, some good anglo saxon words were said.

So sizes does matter.
So to speak.
Maybe, for specific situations.
The 2 shafts turned up yesterday so this morning I stripped the joints off, that CV joint grease is gross and goes everywhere. After a lot of measuring ,head scratching and doh moments I think I have the size worked out. Taking them over to be shortened Sat.

Measure many times, cut once.
Took the shafts to be shortened this morning, my dumb sat nav tried to send me through the middle of town and then up the motorway instead of the bypass ! Got to the last town and road closed, followed diversion sign as well as the sat nav and went through okay but on the way back got sent miles around. Still ignored every thing and followed sign post to where I wanted to go and came out on the right road!
Stayed at Roy's for a few hours watching him build a dragster front axle and drinking 2 coffees, its a fair old way there as it takes over an hour from my place.

Well that stopped today, came down with a streaming sinus/nose and sneezing as well as shivers. Better now ,just hope it clears for tomorrow.
I hope you feel better, Davina. I know that you have plenty of hot tea!
Yes thanks, just a bit snuffly now . Cooked a veg Palou to go with the slightly overcooked Vindaloo I made yesterday, well when I say slightly I mean burnt but it tastes okayish.

This is due to them having 2 sites and the one you join on does not talk to the other so have had to put my details in that one as well.Have to wait now for admin to log me in I suppose
Felt okay when I got up, made flask of tea and lunch box to go to the workshop but sat here my nose has started running with a vengeance and I started shivering again. Blast as weather is good ,11C and sunny.
Flask will last me all day so saved boiling kettle and using more tea bags!
Hope you feel better soon.
So do I !!

Sweeten the tea with honey. It helps with a runny nose, cough, and congestion. I went through this recently, too, minus the chills.
Soak in a hot bath for 30 minutes, then get out and bundle up. I do this anytime I feel a fever coming (chills, aches, etc.). Fever is your body trying to kill a virus, so I save some "body energy" by soaking in a hot bath and raising my temp that way. Get the water as warm as you can tolerate without burning your skin, and stay in for the full 30 minutes, even if the water cools down.
A hot shower would work, too, but uses a lot of water. Maybe a sauna if you have one nearby.
If I have honey it has to be in hot water with lemon, looks like it has shifted now.

Glad it has shifted.
Went to the workshop and did some, had to kneel to work on suspension and my knees and legs hurt now! So made pancakes, broke egg into flour and it was a double youlker. Not sure if that was why they came out a bit different but they tasted fine.

The idea has merit. Remember the book and movie The Mouse That Roared, about a small European nation, envious of the huge amount of American aid given to Germany after WWII, invaded the USA armed with bows and arrows in the hope of benefitting as a defeated country.
Of course, they found themselves in an embarrassing position when they won.
If we want to lose, we'd better invade quickly. If we let Americans suffer under President Trump for much longer, they'll be welcoming us with Union Jacks and we'll have to give them aid.
Belay all of that. Our troops couldn't even find the USA, as we found when our jollies thought that they were invading Gibraltar on manoeuvres:
2002 When Britain Invaded Spain (https://www.theguardian.com/uk/2002/feb/19/gibraltar.world)
"The marines beat a hasty retreat and went off to find the real Gibraltar. This, locals observed, was easily recognisable because it had a 1,398ft high rock sticking out of it."
The Gulf of America will undoubtably confuse our finest and we'll invade Mexico. I might join up. I've heard that Cancun is nice.

Scales said ouch get of you fat expletive this morning, still off to the workshop today and its supposed to be mid to high teens C . Garnish mouldings to put a wipe of filler on and then paint as its warm.
Breakfast meet tomorrow at the café, proper full English (bacon, sausage, black pudding, beans, eggs, tomato and toast) and there might be some mushrooms as well. We get hot rod club discount so with a cuppa its £10.50. Tuesday night we all meet again at a pub and they do a burger night deal ,1/2 price drink for a pint with the meal. That was unkind of me. Please carry on protecting me, you brave men and women.
I don't think that Britain should fight America, though. We've always felt affection for the the Americans who fought on our side, especially the generals, Dwight Eisenhower, Omar Bradley, George Patton, Benedict Arnold etc..
I was just being silly!!!!
Well the sunshine and 17C temps made for a good turnout of hot rods and rides this morning, good chat was had as well. My breakfast order got misplaced and when I eventually got it it was white not brown toast, still got a free refill of coffee!!
Davina,
I hope your Sunday is spectacularly. . . Normal!
Without any pains, hurts, traffic slowdowns, wrong size parts, and other irritants.

Had to spend another day resting my back as it spasmed again in the morning, warm weather disappearing and I wanted to paint some trim. My shafts have been shortened and can collect them tonight at the hot rod club meet at the pub so that saved me a trip.

I had a 1993 Mercury Capri with a hardtop. It was a beautiful teal color. That thing was fun to drive.
Hot rods can be very cool.
Sometimes I see flames painted onto a side of the car.
Davina,
Have you seen, repaired, or drove, or rode in a British "wooden" sports car?
There is a galvanized chassis and metal covered wood in its construction.
It think that Morgan is a brand of these cars.
Chrissy
Yes including some very old 3 wheelers, I drive past the Morgan factory when I go shopping .
Good burger and fries last night, cowboy burger they called it. 2 burgers with crispy bacon and a proper bun with a pile of nice fries . Must have been over 20 of us in our group of 2 clubs, its been 50 years since our club was started and I have been going 47 years. Not a club as such now but a group of hot rod/ customizers.
Back still tight and its worked up to my shoulder blades now so I know its getting better, its like a bruise working its way out. Staying at home to rest and we have SNOW this morning, only a few days ago it was T shirt weather-----------
Mum rang, my car wont start. Well I was in no state to go and look at it so I said I will look in the morning and if it still wont start I will give you a lift so we can shop.
Well mums car started, she had "flooded" it by starting it and moving it about 2ft and then turned it off. When she tried to start it as it was cold it still injected more fuel, all I did was give it full throttle and keep turning it over to clear it. Called in at aunt and uncles as mum had to pick aunt up now her car was going, uncle has lost his "granny" phone. I want a better one he said, aunties going you wont know how to use it (true!) but he insisted and was looking at pay as you go android. Auntie had to say okay we will go to the phone shop and look. I just shook my head, they are a right pair!
Not much food shop today as away next week, will be a mega shop when I come back of hols. Fish curry to make now and green beans to go with it to use them up before they go bad. Only carrots and potatoes left in fridge and they will be fine till after hols.
Quite the experience. How aged is the machine? Still has a carburetor, who'd a thunk it.
My ex never could get it figured out, how not to flood the cars on cold start. I can't (okay, maybe I can) how many times I had to rescue them in that way. The best carbs to avoid that are Zenith, Stromberg, SU.
Never could get dear old Dad to go to a smart phone.
No its 96 with 4 point injection but the computer will inject fuel to the temperature out side, I have seen this before so got to the point of asking folks if they had just started it and then shut off after a few seconds.
Something new for me. I thought I was beyond surprise.
I just taught my partner and my kids not to touch the fuel feed on start, warm or cold on the fuel injected machines. I've actually done that myself, just once, flooded from brief start. Just run the starter in 10 sec bursts 'til it started.
Quote from: D'Amalie on March 13, 2025, 03:09:25 PMSomething new for me. I thought I was beyond surprise.

I don't recall what vehicle it was, but one of them in the User Manual it said to push the accelerator to the floor and hold it. Don't pump it, just hold it while engaging the starter.
That works on Carbs. Not so much for FI.
It does as it lets more air in and will clear the cylinders of excess fuel. Anyway my fish curry turned out nice, simple as some onion, garlic, ginger, ground spices and tomatoes and once onions are cooked just 10mins when you add the fish at the end.
Cold today (wind was cold shopping yesterday) but braving it and going to the workshop to build up the 1/2 shafts, up to my elbows in grease then!!
Change that, damn nose wont stop running and back still playing up and I feel cold but its warm in my flat.
Back recovered and nose/sinus as well so went to my workshop yesterday and fitted the drive shafts, now I cant get the suspension bars in that I had to remove to fit the shafts. Mutter, mutter, mutter.
Anyways forget that as its flat tidy, bed change and pack suitcase day to get ready for a weeks holiday looking after mother (yes she needs "guidance"!) . Off to north Wales Mon to Fri (waves to Sephirah) staying at Llandudno (the 2 Ls make it sound like your clearing your throat) with trip to Conway, Snowdon, Chester and the place with the longest name in the UK. Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogeyrchwyrndrowbwllllantysiliogogogoch , yes I did have to look that up!
Not sure how well I can post or look on here from my phone so might be Fri before I am back.

Safe travels, Davina!
Cheers both, back to cleaning after watching the Oz grand prix. Case packed as far as I can go, have some food to freeze as it will be past eating by Fri.

Pnaw'n da!* Back from my Welsh holiday in one piece and had a good time, not the best hotel we have stayed at but was only a 2star rating. Back home with case empty and a cup of tea by 3.30 so chance of a sit down, will need tomorrow to recover now! Mum is getting slower and a bit doddery getting around, my legs suffering from standing waiting for her to catch up as well as walking slowly. Laters as need more tea!

I bought a "street Welsh" book, I find I can pronounce the words okay or so I thought but some are hard as there is a column next to the Welsh word with how to say it. My "past life memory" is Celtic it feels so maybe thats why it is familiar ?
Bought a whole chicken on the way home as well as some other needed grocery's, it was reduced price with yesterdays use by date. It will be fine in a curry but not decided what yet, was thinking about a whole baked one but its to big to fit in my casserole dish that the recipe says use. Having a ponder.
Nice to have a good nights sleep back in my own bed, now just waiting on my legs to recover!
Davina,
I am glad you got some sleep. I was up so early today.
It is nice to get grocery savings too.
Chrissy
Welcome home, Davina.
Welsh is one of those languages that you need an explanation of how to pronounce words. I still have issues with English! ;D
Well the chicken is roasting, made a yogurt and spice paste (Masala Chicken) and slash cut breast and thighs to rub the paste in (before Lori says anything the chicken not mine)
Careful with those knives, Davina! ;D
Still not recovered from the hols, neck still sore and right knee hurting. Also have a thick head (oi no comments from the back) but that is self inflicted as had a small beer last night and stayed up late to watch a film. Rang mum and she has a cold/sniffle ,that comes from mixing with lots of folks.
Had some yogurt to use up and mixed some cinnamon and ginger in but it tasted gross to me so made it into yogurt bread. Now that works okay.
"oi no comments from the back"...nope, just applause. You deserve a beer and film to counter the sore knee and neck!
Stripped the chicken of meat, have enough for 3 good meals and now making a pie from the scraps. Miked some beans and broccoli in as well as frozen peas, nowt gets wasted in my place.
Enjoy your meals!
Chrissy
Mums birthday today, she is 89. Calling in as never made it out yesterday. She did out me to a couple on holiday who did not know and were surprised, I think its because she is proud of what I have done. 2 ladies we talked to mum told them but they said they had worked it out or suspected, no problem they were lovely and on my FB list now. Turns out a relation lived in the house that mum and her family lived in for a year back in the late 40s! Lady I was sat next to over the aisle in the coach had no idea and we talked a fair bit.
She is proud and... justifiably so! 💕
Now I am blushing! Called in on mum ,she was okay cooking up a stew for lunch. Cleaned up the workshop bench and tools that were covered in grease from building up the shafts as well as making templates in paper for window glass. Popped in to see Debs on the way home, she was getting down a bottle of wine. Told me she was drinking one a day so I gave her a rollicking but might as well talked to the dog.
Went to Nicks and we removed the engine and box from the Hot Rod T, bit of faffing to get it ready but it came out easy and everything tided away. Then we went to see if I could get a new immobilizer chip for the Austin at the Vauxhall agents ,not good as no longer available and no code for one either. Now I am stuck so a bit peed off.
Quote from: davina61 on March 25, 2025, 02:19:03 PMno longer available and no code for one either. Now I am stuck so a bit peed off.
I had a 1994 Chevy Silverado truck that the transmission went out. The mechanic rebuilt it but told me the problem was that the ECM (Electronic Control Module) was sending the shift signal at the wrong time. It was only off by a fraction of a second, but it was enough for rough shifting. Apparently the previous owner took it to a dealership who installed a new ECM and programmed the chip.
My mechanic said he checked everywhere, including junkyards, and could not find the correct ECM.
I found the correct ECM (1994 model) on eBay and the correct program chip on Amazon. For less than $100 including shipping, I had my truck running in top condition... not counting the $1,800 for the transmission rebuild. ;D
I assume you know the specs that you need. Maybe some online shopping will turn up exactly the correct part you need.
Nothing on the bay when I looked, waiting to see what owners forum says
Got a call from Brian, help I am drag racing at the weekend and my new gear box that my son fitted has the shifter set wrong. Not only that but he had messed with the starter inhibit switch that took me ages to set up last time, guess what yup took me ages this time---------
Got paid in choc bikkeys!!!!
Over slept but needed it as was feeling a bit off since the hols, up and at them now catching up on house work and stuff. Had an upset tum in middle of the night, put that down to the red pepper not cooked enough in the chicken dish I made yesterday. Think I will put it back in the pan and cook till they are soft.
Bought a leg of lamb so while I am at home today I will make a curry or do I make a lamb raan ? thats a roast covered in spices.
Just seen Musk has upgraded security on his trucks, playing loud music will stop that NOT! Its a good job as he is South African that they havent fitted flame throwers as they do to deter car jackers.
No one should bother his customers or his vehicles or dealerships or him or his family. That can be a level of violence that transcends and goes beyond protesting.
Wrong.
I'm a little late to this, but....
I am all about making you blush Davina! I agree with Tgirl about your mom:
"She is proud and... justifiably so! 💕
It is so wonderful that she is proud of you for all that you have fought to accomplish with your life!!!

Maybe if I painted them pink? ;D
Well its a Rogan Josh cooking away and I roasted the remains of the lamb leg in the airfyrer , I do have a left over lamb/beef recipe in my one Indian cook book.

I've always thought that Josh Rogan would be great name for an action movie hero. Chuck Norris in the title role?
Its an orangy/red so will be the evil bad guy!!!!
Well something else I cant eat, sweet peppers. Had another good "clear out" after eating dinner and I cooked the peppers again till some of them were scorched. Some sort of "acid?" in them like onion and garlic that my system cant stomach (forgive the pun) .
Up and at them again this morning, sun is out but we have a partial eclipse from 10 till 12 this morning. Off down the workshop as only have 10 days to get the Austin ready for a show ,it still in a dry build but worth showing due to all the trick bits on it. Have to make a show card as well and I am not very tidy when I come to that. Also there is an auto jumble/car show next Sun so will see if I can get a pitch and shift some more rubbish ,I mean desirable old car bits!!
Sorry that the pepper did you some discomfort.
Enjoy your Saturday!
Chrissy
Got the immobilizer sorted, the local key guy had a gizmo that reads the e prom? and got all the details so I have 2 keys that work. Cost me £150-------------
Got on well today, called on mum and set the one clock she cant reach (British summer time today) . Got a birthday card for Lottie my daughters youngest from mum ,missed it as my calendar has the last 2 days on top of the first week. Dropped it of at the exes, she was going over to see them later. Must have talked for 1/2 hour, sounded like she is lonely on her own.
Sorted the rear suspension on the Austin using the plasma cutter to remove a bit of plate so the bar would drop in from above, found some bits I was missing as they were in the storage tray under the load floor! So a good day, no bad tum last night as took the sweet pepper out of the curry. Just had a nice bowl of Rogan Josh with rice.
I have heard of a comedian named Joe Rogan but not a food named Rogan Josh.
Interesting, that is!

Went to give Nick a hand with the lil Delinquent , a Alfa flat4 mid engined Fiat 500. Had to sort gear shift out, found a linkage bolt loose and gear lever hitting it mounting bracket. Soon sorted, we did some more jobs and went with Nick for a test run.Thing handles like a go cart and by the 5th roundabout I had to say slow down as I was about to throw up!!
Just set the fire alarm off in the flats, my rice boiled dry and burnt. Good job I know how to reset the system and it looks like there was only folks in no3 as she was on the stairs in her nighty and dressing gown! Think she works early, BTW its only 4.45 pm. Just hope my pan is okay and no rice with my dinner then as cant be bothered now.
not that bad but it filled the room with smoke, sensor has now cleared and a good spray with some room smelly has got rid of the burnt smell.
Davina that sounds like the way I cook, so I do my cooking on the grill and leave the kitchen to my wife...I am also go at take away too!
soaked the pan overnight, some has come off so it has a dose of white vinegar and soda to see if that will remove the burn. Thurs food shop again, whole chicken to chop up for a curry with butternut squash and coconut milk and carrots. Will have to leave out the lemon grass as cant be bothered to go to the lemon grass shop!
Site is running slow again or is that a retaliatory ta ;D riff??

When I do this, I use automatic dishwasher powder. Sprinkle a little in the dish, then fill the dish with hot water, the hotter the better. Let it soak overnight and the next morning, most of the gunk has come loose and the dish can be cleaned pretty easily.

More and more I try to do things that invariably turn out wrong or uncooperative. W/O testosterone I can't even get mad and smash it .. so frustrating
I have no idea what an immobilizer is, but I enjoyed hearing about it. My daughter's partner is a mechanic. I do my best not to let my eyes glaze over when he's mansplaining something automotive to me. My eyes have no problems reading your diary, though. Must be something about the presentation.
I was hoping to take it to a car show next weekend but not sure if I can get a trailer yet, tomorrow I will be Little Miss Electrician trying to find the fault with no injected fuel . Wiring chart in manual is so small print its hard to read.

Good luck!
Davina, I am will you, the print these manuals incredibly small. I bought a jeweler's magnifying light at a garage sale. I use it all the time, sometimes for those challenging splinters, particularly the metal ones.
You can take a photograph of the printed pages you are interested in.
Then view the photos on your telephone or other device and it can be easily magnified.
Or use a magnifier feature on your telephone to help directly read the printed matter.
Chrissy
I did manage okay without any extra magnification ,turned out the pipe had come off the fuel feed inside the tank! Engine started but after a bit there is an oil leak and it looks like front seal, thats a lot of work.
Car loaded up for auto jumble tomorrow, early start as have to pick mum up about 8am and get set up for when gates open at 10.

Yes, Davina-- I join Chrissy in wishing you a fantastic auto jumble (the phrase itself is awesome).
You would call it a swap meet, did okay and took enough money to make it worthwhile. Came back with 2 empty crates and a lot less in others. Aching all over now from lumping stuff around!
Now you have more funds for your own projects.
Maybe some fish and chips, with mushy peas. Plus, more curries.
Chrissy
Well things not going great trying to get the Austin ready for the show but didnt come on here to moan. Was going to hot rod club meet tonight but feeling shattered so cooked some belly pork slices coated in spices (smoked paprika, 5 spice that I had to make, garlic granules and salt) . Run out of Soy sauce so a shake of Worcestershire sauce had to do. Nice with steamed broccoli and green beans.
Got on quite well today, changed my bed, did washing, made dinner to be warmed up later all while waiting for a parcel that didnt get left yesterday . Delivery driver hardly talked English so if it was them yesterday they didnt follow instructions.
Got to workshop 12.30 and managed to get a lot done, still dont know if I have a trailer to get it to the show.
I hope everything works out for the show.
Chrissy
I have got the trailer, my friend Nick from the hot rod club is coming over this afternoon to help fit the side windows now I have correct rubbers. I have to give him a lift home after as he is leaving the Fiat at his lads workshop. Tomorrow he will tow the trailer to my workshop so I owe him big time.
Quick food shop this morning as have to get down my workshop before 2pm.
Nick said the lad that works for his son (when we dropped the Fiat off yesterday) Thought I was Nicks sons mum!!!! Thats a pass then. So bike and Austin loaded and dropped off at the show, Nick said call in on their camp site in the morning for coffee. Brian rang and the Comet is coming tomorrow as well as Chris with his V8 powered MGA . We are all together in a line up with club banner displayed including the shorty American school bus! I will be at the show all day Sat and Sun ,lots of stuff to look at.
Davina,
Have you ever rode or serviced an S class Mercedes or even one of their Maybach cars?
Sounds like awesome cars but out of reach for most people in the world.
Fortunately I do not envy such things.
Chrissy
Davina, do you have any photos from the car show and your car crew? They sound like great people, and the show must have showcased some classics!
Photos would be awesome, Davina!
I will try when I have time to waste on loading to Imgar --------------------
We had a good day, I got good feed back on the Austin. Will go and look at the bikes tomorrow.
Some nice bikes, I liked the bobbers and choppers . managed to get loaded up and back early, I am going to ache like a good thing tomorrow from hauling the bike about. BTW I hate ratchet straps!!
Quote from: davina61 on April 13, 2025, 12:47:43 PMSome nice bikes, I liked the bobbers and choppers . managed to get loaded up and back early, I am going to ache like a good thing tomorrow from hauling the bike about. BTW I hate ratchet straps!!
What is a bobber? I only heard that term in regards to fishing and trying to grab apples.
Its a style of stripped back bike, bobbed fenders like the hair cut is what the name is credited as coming from. Thought I would ache more but so far not to bad, have to get a move on and pick trailer up before D starts work.
So car back on lift, started to strip it down to get at the leak. Have a problem with a spinning rivnut and had to kneel to get at the back of it, when I stood (with difficulty) my right knee gave out so came back home to rest it. No fun climbing 3 flights of stairs keeping right knee straight.

I hope it's nothing too serious and that some good rest helps it settle down quickly.

From many years of kneeling on rocks to pan gold, I have had similar problems. I went to the hardware store and bought a nice comfy pair of kneepads. They come in handy anytime I need to kneel for any length of time, like scrubbing the bathtub. ;D

Happy Birthday, Davina!
Do something special for yourself to celebrate.
Off to the pub for lunch with mum ,aunt and uncle. 70 trips round the sun, what a blast!!
Knee better, just needed a rest. Its a recurring thing caused by (I think) a duff Achilles tendon since I was in my 20s, puts my whole ankle/leg/hip out at times but doing standing on tip toe exercise helps. One of the bones in my foot is out of place, you can see feel it. Having a right lazy morning, shower and get ready to go out in a bit.
Nice food at the pub, had a steak pie with veg followed by a lemon meringue sundae and 1/2 pint of Butty Bach. Nice beer from local Wye brewery, we were there for over 3 hrs chatting to the staff as well.
Saw my daughter and grandkids going for a walk with the ex up to the common as I drove up the estate to take mum home, they have a puppy. Poodle cross of some sort, that will be a hand full then !!
Eldest called in, he is busy on with the plumbing business and with the band and if things turn out they have good things ahead. He said I didnt know what to get you and I said I have everything bar money, thats good cos thats what you got!
Wet and windy today, off down the workshop when I get going to do battle with the rivnuts------
Well I am cross with the UK high court ruling that there are only 2 sexes in law, so called female rights groups bringing the action and makes me wonder how much interference was made in that decision from the government? I think there has been zero instances of a genuine M to F causing any trouble in female spaces ,its a fake perceived problem from a few nutters like JK Rowling .
On lighter news I didnt get misgendered at all over the weekend of the bike and car show!!
Well turns out it was a bit of a non event, all the judgment did was define "sex" in the law as biological sex. That is according to a posting on Gender UK site.
Toss and turn night for me, duvet hanging of the side of bed this morning and I feel sleepy and brain not functioning well. No point in going down the workshop like this as will mess something up!!
Have to book my yearly check over with the doc and need to put an ad up for my panel van. Bought a whole leg of lamb yesterday as they were on a good price for Easter, cubed it up and got 3 lots of 450g (1lb) that went in the freezer. That will be 12 plus meals when made into curries ,roasted the lower bit as well in the air fryer so will have some cold to go with a roast dinner Sat and Sun.
Trying to book my check up slot yesterday, wonders of modern tech. I slot available it said for 28th so clicked on that and then it said nothing available so looked at May ones that showed lots of slots till I clicked on them. Wil have to call in on docs now to see if it went through and if not to book in.
I was tired all day yesterday, TBH not much better now and my brain is not working well as cant spell (thank goodness for speal chucker) . Flask and lunch made but still not feeling like venturing out. Right foot/ankle still playing me up and it has put my back out a bit.
I hope you get back to 100% later today.
Chrissy
So do I Chrissy, still feel exhausted and feel cold but heating is on. Poor circulation?
I hope the circulation works well enough to bring you comforting warmth soon.
I wish I knew a lot about cars like you do.
Chrissy
Wow, Davina. a busy week for you.
First and foremost: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! It sounds like you had a wonderful birthday!
I am so sorry about your knees. Mine are creaky too. I bought a folding gardeners' bench/kneeler, and I can finally pull weeds without fear.
Hope you are feeling better.
What ever it was is shifting, mum bought me (after I said I cant afford it!) a creeper that turns into a stool for my birthday so that will help a lot.

Yay!
Moved the rose plant, whether it survives I dont know as the main root about an inch in dia went under the path so I chopped it through! Got the Austin oil seal fitted and started putting it back together, just the rad and pipe work to fit. Finish that tomorrow.
So today didnt go to plan, late getting going and by the time I had done breakfast I gave up on going to the workshop. On the plus side washing in the machine, tidy up on the way . Cold and wet today as well after that nice day yesterday.

Have a nice afternoon.
Chrissy
Got stuff done at home, the cold and wet went by lunch time so just hope it dry tomorrow.
Well our numpty PM has said openly that he doesn't think Trans females are female, more Nazi BS . Not as bad as the orange one but they are messing the country up as I knew they would and as that party always does.
Okay rant over ,got on well today and no oil leak on engine. Slight water leak on the pipes that bolt to the heater core and that means dash out but have to take it back out anyways, job to start tomorrow.
The maintenance never ends on the lovely old machines does it?
First Cruise-Nite of the season at the local burger shop this afternoon/evening. Pulled out the Silver Cloud (Emily) since it looks like rain is possible later today. Not that I want the residual mess of motoring in the rain, but I don't mind letting her get wet. Having lived 30 years of her life in the UK, it's not like she's never seen the rain. Left the '56 Chevy (Alice) in the barn because she is pristine and ready for points competition. Detailing that one is a real chore.
Driving in the wee hours, I was reminded that really need to get the dynamo out of Emily to repair or replace. I'm hoping I can replace the brushes. Driving in darkness reveals slight pulsing in the lamps. She's needed it for a few years but I forget about it since routinely she is only out in daylight hours. Its just so darned expensive, it seems that almost any repairs start at $800 and move up from there. Driving in darkness reveals slight pulsing in the lamps. Lower coolant pipe leaks a drop or two when sitting as well. The A/C needs a vacuum and recharge now I think of it.
If its pulsing I would look at the regulator, can you swap out the dynamo for an alternator? So mostly stripping stuff apart on the Austin, corrected a fault and took the dash out to recover it as the glue I used let go. Now I just need some £££s to get all the new bits I need to finish the build.
Quote from: davina61 on April 23, 2025, 11:50:21 AMIf its pulsing I would look at the regulator, can you swap out the dynamo for an alternator?
I can get the alternator retro fitted to the original Dynamo case. Just very expensive, at about $1000 double with the core charge and shipping. lord only knows about the tariffs coming from Old Blighty.

Good quality 3M contact cement works well in those applications I've found.
Yes I will do the evil bay dance to see whats about. Well its Thurs food shop again already ,need to stock up my freezer. Dull and cloudy today but supposed to clear later, week ahead is looking good with mid 20sC and sunny.
Now when I tried booking my yearly docs check over the system said one slot on the 29th and then said no slots available, nothing to say I had booked it so thought I would have to call in to see but got a reminder text to say 14.20 on the 29th! Stupid system, might have to bend an ear on that.
Got lots of reduced price stuff in supermarket, 2 bags of spinach so bought a whole chicken and cut it up for chicken and spinach curry. Also got a pizza (I know diet) as a treat as not had any for ages (it was reduced) ,tinned aubergines and something else I cant remember! Fish cakes and sausages for the freezer and a roll of shortcrust pastry. Stocking back up.
A.I, dumb as!! Had to relist my VW and remove the old ad as it kept saying you cant change a car ad to a non car ad. mmmmmmm yes Thats not what I changed just a reserve price as it never posted that the first time.
Anyways got some clothes washed and stuff sorted at home, started writing out a to do list for the hot rod. Its a big list!
Davina,
Have you ever drove a "rally car"? Apparently there is a car enthusiast activity named Rally.
Looks like they are street cars that are made wider to be changed to four wheel drive, and they install a roll cage plus do some other things so the car has good traction and high performance brakes. Pistons, camshafts, etc. are upgraded and a turbocharger is added for more horsepower. A metal gas tank is changed to a rubber one.
The car is not painted but instead the car gets glued on graphics to save on weight.
Sounds interesting.
No but my daughter had a drive it day in one, look up WRC for some fast action on gravel.
I was about to have a brain melt down working out why the r/h flashers not working on the Austin, turns out the wire from the flasher relay and the wire to the l/h flasher are the same black and white colours and when I shortened them I got them mixed. Only took 2 hrs to find as well (mutters swear words) ,bits I ordered online that should have turned up last week not come yet and holding me up. I hate starting something else and having to go back to finish a job as thats when you forget things.
Docs tomorrow for a yearly check up, need to lose 10lb overnight! Have to chase up my prescription as well as it should have come in last week.
When you figure out how to loose the 10 pounds let the group know the secrete. :)
Yes WHEN!!!!
Sit in a hot sauna for maybe a two pound loss.
Well scales said I lost 2lb this week, must be the hot weather! Slum it morning before I have a shower and go to Docs for my annual. Have to vac up all the dead insects in between the secondary glazing ,hard to get to some of it . 25C later and getting hotter.

Bugs seem to get into many places!

Check over went okay, have to pee in a pot and drop that off!! Sorted out my prescription and they have sent it down to chemist, just have to wait on them processing it now. One part has turned up for the Austin and I have to grind down the wood I glued on yesterday so will be busy on tomorrow.
Well dear hearts its Thursday "fun" food shop day again, that last lot of carrots I bought have started to rot in the fridge even though I wrapped them in foil. Sounds like an excuse to make carrot cake!
Keema plate pie to make later and fancy trying a whole baked cauliflower, was given a chicken, ham and leek pie from a local butchers the other day and had a bit last night. That is dinner tonight with veg that needs cooking. Looks like I will be chefing all afternoon then.
Keema is a mince (or for you ground) cooked with/in spices, in this one its made into a plate pie . I spent all afternoon cooking, Keema plate pie, whole roast cauliflower and carrot cake as well as some veg cooked for dinner with the reheated chicken, ham and leek pie. Knackered now!! Bought a whole duck this morning as they still had some at a very good price, also got a car polishing machine and a pack of foam mops. Always worth checking out the middle isle, now I can repair some of the paint on the Austin.
Had to walk to the chemist to get my patches as its Folk festival in town and no place to park, its gone muggy and sounded like a rumble of thunder just now and temps going to drop 10C in the next few days.
So that would be different than a cottage pie, by having a top and bottom crust?
Yes, a normal Keema is mince and peas and its the filling they use for a meat samosa. This one has butter beans squashed in it so it holds it all together .
Well done all the stuff I needed to do at home (no workshop today) and its 3 pm and looking for things to do!
Normal telly has been taken over by local election results, yup hours of repeating the same thing that could be done with in 15mins! Labour has taken a kicking but what BS have they now voted in.
I see on news reports Donald wants to use Alcatraz , that is fine as long as he and his cronies move in!!
Made a cock up (cook up?) making the stuffing for the duck, it said 2 cups cooked rice so I cooked 2 cups of rice. Yup that makes a hell of a lot more than 2 cups of COOKED rice, doh. So I put it in a tray and cooked it some more in the oven, now I can have a slice of spicy rice!!
Blast this knackered ankle, woke for a wee in the night and struggled to get to the on suite as it was painful. Did my exercise and foot went clonk and was okay to get back to my bed, again when I got up I had to do more exercise before I could walk after more clonks. Okay now as it just aches like normal but my back is playing up (because of my ankle?) with a muscle grabbing, lots of stretching exercise holding myself up on a chair back and arching seem to have helped shift the knot but still catches at times. So annoying as I wanted to do stuff.
Stretching is the ticket for lower back, but can't think of the ankle. How long ago was the injury?
About 46 years ago, bit of a twisted ankle (I call it a disco injury!) that felt okay after a few days but it did more damage. At the time when it first played up about a year later the doc said do standing on toe lifts to tighten the tendon, now I cant lift my heel of the floor unless I use both feet. You can see a bone is out of place as there is a bulge on the outside of that ankle and you can feel it, also my big toe has to be massaged where it goes into the arch and joint goes click back into place. Wear and tear !!

NHS won't fix it in place?
If its the same as my wrist they will say yes but you will lose movement, its okay just plays me up sometimes.I expect it to be okay tomorrow.
Who is it that said, "Getting old isn't for sissies!" We are living proof.
Well this old frame is moving this morning, time to get out and about. Brain work this morning cutting patterns to cover the centre console, have to sew then together and my sewing machine is crap. Will have to pin them first.
Upholstery is a real skill set. Valuable to have!
Impressed with you, Davina. Are you self taught?
I can install premanufactured seat covers, sew on a button, install a cabrio top or headliner and the like, but no where close to be considered an upholsterer.
Nor me!! but I will have a go at anything. Pined the patterns together so now I have to do battle with the machine, well when I have gathered up enough courage.
Give me a table saw over a sewing machine any day! My Frankenstein monster would have his hand sewn to his far head.
You have an impressive set of skills Davina...and you cook!
Just read my tag line! Jill of all trade mistress of non! Food shop day again, they come around to quick. Do I get beef this week? might do beef cooked in whole spices as that is tasty.
Cloudy and cool today, RHS Spring garden show on at the local fair grounds so the roads will be backing up for the next 4 days. Good job I travel in the opposite direction to the traffic going down to the workshop as they go to the show and vis versa.
Well I got another duck but its gone in the freezer. Left leg played up now ::) , bags were very heavy to go up the stairs what with the duck, big pack of cubed beef and chicken thighs as well as onions, apples, oats and other packs.Had to go up a few steps and then lift the bags up and then go 2 more steps, okay on the flat just no power to lift that load with bent leg.
Oh well cooking afty then and when I get some garlic, cross and holy water its brave the sewing machine. Now what did I do with that sharpened stake?
