Just trying to see if anyone aside from myself is a fan of the good doctor. I was feeling nostalgic for the last season tonight so I downloaded the soundtrack. *Is now in music heaven* So possibly, if there are fans besides myself, are you looking forward to the next season? What do you think of the new doctor? As good as tennant? Better? Worse? Different? And what do you think of the new partners, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) in particular?
I have loved the Doctor for years. My cable provider does not have him, but I do have access to the English stations and can watch them.
I just got the chance to watch the new series (since 05) and I want to watch the old classics, however theyre quite hard to find in all one piece, lol. I'm awaiting april with bated breath, especially hearing that Neal Gaiman will be writing one of the episodes.
I've only watched a bit of the newer stuff but I was addicted to it when Tom Baker was the doctor. In fact I've bought the yarn to knit a Dr. Who scarf. Now if I can just remember how to knit. :P
Love Doctor Who and even got my son addicted. I actually like Matt Smith. Didn't think I was gonna. I am absolutely in love with Karen Gillan. Red heads, oh lord, they do it for me. Been seeing the teasers on BBC America. I guess they filmed some in the US for this series?

Nnn, yeah. I can tell you they end up in Utah, and of course, by the trailer, in the white house at one point, though for the life of me I can't remember which presidency. They've been pretty good about not using fill-in characters for heads of state, etc, ie, the guy they found to play churchill was wonderful, which means if he's in the white house, there'll be an appropriate actor who looks considerably like a president. And on the topic of Karen, she's my celebrity crush, well, tied with Felicia Day. Both are redheads, and both star in geeky series, and Key is a geek, yes she is ^^
Oh, and the word (which may be 'bird,' incidentally) is that the first episode will air on April 9th this year, which leaves us with oooooh, a month and 3 weeks or so left to wait ^^
Not only a fan but as a BBC TV Videotape operator/editor I worked on the last of the old series.
I am also old enough to have seen every single episode in real time. I did in fact watch the very first episode in 1963. It is one of my earliest memories of watching TV.
Finally as technical supervisor at the BBC archive during the 1990's I was the person who was responsible for doing almost all of the salvage work on the old archival recordings which enabled them to be preserved, or in some cases restored. So if you buy any DVD's and downloads of the old classic series (pre 1996) you will be watching MY replays and digitisations of the old master recordings.
Oh - yeah - and I went to the very first Dr who Appreciation society fanfest back in about 1975 or 1976. The strange thing about whovians, particularly those from the "classic" era of the show is that they seem to have an unusually high proportion of LGBT people in their midst.

*bows down* I am not worthy of your presence, oh great one. Teach me of the ways of the Doctor and his blue box. XD
That, is so effing cool, jenny. Then you've even seen the episodes that got lost when the archives were cleaned out.

Yep - I have fond memories of "The enemy of the world" and "The web of fear" to say nothing of "The Dalek Masterplan" and not all of them are actually lost. I personally found quite a few of them that were supposed to be missing. Unfortunately some of them are not usable for technical reasons, but actually the ones that are genuinely missing are mainly only a small section of the Patrick Troughton era from about 1966 - 1967.
More interestingly I have watched the entire studio rushes from the never completed Tom Baker story "Shada"
There are still more stories to be officially "discovered" I am sure of that.
So now you know - Dr who was restored by a longterm postop transwoman

Thank You Jen!!
I have watched every series on here over the years, and also the movie that showed Davros creating the Daleks. Now we know where Bob Hawke, PM came from-he's a Davros clone!
Amazing what they could do with a Welsh gravel pit and a few other props.
Jenny, that is super awesome! And I feel really stupid for not tying your username to the good Doctor, especially since I already knew about your archival work at the BBC.
When I read Jenny's first port and saw her user name, I chuckled because I wondered if she was a doctor fan. Then she told me about her days at the BBC.
And I have seen the pics that prove she was there. Not sure if she was working on a Doctor episode or an old style Dalek. ;D Thats an awesome tale, Jen. ;) :-*
Wooo, Jenny :) I is another Hive/Inferno irregular :) It's a nicely small big world indeed :) Have you heard anything of Xaria? I left OG for a long while and then it became G-Base when I returned (they redecorated but I like it)
Yay! New Doctor Who series starting on BBC America on April 23. :) Can't wait. I grew up watching Tom Baker in the 70s on TVOntario. With the recent versions of Doctor Who, I wasn't sure but I have to admit it's been really good. The writing is quite good, IMO.
Love it - but can't really get behind the new one. It's true what they say, as you get older the doctors get younger, but he's just too much of a boy for me (plus it feels like it's really all about Amy - who is very nice to look at, but that's not the point). Still enjoying it, but nowhere near as much as previous series.
After all these years of watching (and Patrick Troughton was my first doctor, bless 'im), I still think Blink was one of the best episodes ever. It bucked the current trend of "less fear, more action!!!" and had it all - pathos, romance, humour, hide-behind-the-couchness. Brilliant.
I can't wait for the new series, Easter is too far away!

Lis Sladen, aka Sarah Jane Smith, passed away she was a long serving star of the show and she worked with the 3rd, 4th, 10 & 11th Doctors as well as having her own telly show The Sarah Jane Adventures which has been one of CBBC's top rated shows
I had no idea she was 63 - she sure didn't look it :'(

--------
The new series started last night & it was fantastic!
They are repeating the last of David Tennant's series here now, so we shouldn't have long to wait for the next Matt Smith series. Can't wait.
Karen.
good story, shame about the weak enemy, they're just asking for a Doctor spanking, even the Cybermen should have wiped them out years ago, the have cybernetic minds that can't be wiped like biological minds
better episode last night :) The Moff seems to have the opposite problem to Russ, he does really weak part one's and then follows them up with amazing part 2's, where as Russ could really build up a story to an amazing cliffhanger and then have a weak get out of jail free ending rather than deal with them effectively (this is all imo of course)
By lummy did the Doctor spank the Silence too, I still think the Cybermen would have wiped them out. The survival suit seemed to have an om-com built into it, which harks back to Empty Child/Doctor Dances. The identity of the girl seems shrouded in mystery The Moff seems to be hinting she's Amy & Rory's child but that seems far too obvious a clue to me. I think the clue is that she's someone's daughter, the Doctor's daughter to be precise. IMO she's a poorly rejenerated Jenny (from The Doctor's Daughter) and we'll see her again in a new body perhaps for the mid-season clifhanger...
I have heard some theories that River Song is Amy and Rory's daughter, can't remember where I got that from though. And I love Rory, really hope we get to see more of his time as the centurion because 2000 years is a very long time, he must have had a lot of interesting experiences.
Last night episode was amazing; until the whole ordeal with the child. Yeah, i remember Jenny and that was stupid too. I'm not wanting to see a kid spin-off either. I guess i'm showing so much hate? Would rather the Dr. have a son. That way if he does finally run out of lives his son would replace him :D
Big fan of Doctor Who since I was little and they were doing Sylvester McCoy.
Very keen on Matt Smith, but having a little trouble with Amy - however next week had the Doctor and Pirates - and I adore pirates.

Well the problem is that we know from WAY back in 1963 that the doctor has a daughter and granddaughter... so we needed to tie up a few loose ends here.
And yes as I am both old enough to have seen that very first episode when it was transmitted back in 1963 and I also worked on the show as a technician when I was at the BBC. So you may take it that I do know my stuff as regards the cannon of the show.
Unlike most of you I have actually seen and read the official BBC files on the character background - These are the "secret" files that writers get given access too when they are working on the show to ensure that they stay consistent. - Its a standard technique with long running shows like this to help the writing team to work together and those files contain things which are true - but which will not necessarily be directly revealed to the audience. In the case of the granddaughter Susan - we saw her onscreen from 1963 - 1965, but in the background notes her family history is/was also sketched out.

Yeah, we'll i'm glad they are tying up loose ends then. Pssht, no need to be rubbing it in :P
didn't Bill Hartnell want to play his own evil son in a story?
tonight's episode was a bit of a clunker for me, just kept falling out of the storyline and watching the clock wondering when it'd be finished, not the best thing to happen to one of your viewers I think :(
Tonights episode was ok, a bit predictable though, and Amy's attempt at CPR bugged me, also why was the Doctor just sitting there when she was doing it, first aid 101 people, if there is more than one of you then don't just sit there like a muppet watching one person do all the work >:( . Anyway apart from that this ep wasn't bad, the ending was pretty sweet.
This episode was shot in Cornwall just down the road from where we live and in fact in the place where Alison grew up, namely Charlestown.
It was a strange mish-mash rehash of "The Stones of Blood" from The Key To Time season and "Enlightenment" from The Black Tulip season.
I kept waiting for Valentine Dyall to pop up as the Black Guardian, and to find that the "pirates" were in fact all immortals, meanwhile the Siren was obviously the Cailleach.
Oddly enough the "Stones Of Blood" was also filmed in Cornwall.
Come to that the first two episodes had elements from Mawdryn Undead - the silence were like the failed time-lords who were trapped in a state of incomplete regeneration. They also had an idea stolen form Robert Anton-Wilson (the author of the Illuminatus Trilogy) in that they were like the Ffnords - the hidden words on the page that you never see which contain the hidden answer to everything...
Yes I know - I'm an incurable anorak - but for about 10 years in the 1990's I was effectively the BBC Archivist who looked after the master recordings of all those old shows...
I have to admit that last night's episode didn't do it for me at all. Roll on next week.
I've been a fan since childhood. The Vervoid story from Trial of a Timelord probably being the most terrifying moment of my childhood!
Just watched 'The Doctor's Wife'. Brilliant episode, I thought. Neil Gaiman should write more episodes. Loved this line of dialogue from the Doctor:"There aren't any Time Lords left anywhere in the Universe, but the Universe isn't where we're going! See that snake? The mark of The Corsair – fantastic bloke! He had that snake as a tattoo in every regeneration; he didn't feel like himself unless he had that tattoo, or herself a couple of times, ooh-hoo-hoo, she was a bad girl!"
I loved The Doctor's Wife, a superb story from start to finish :) Definetly the best telly I've watched so far this year :)
I'm really beginning to adore Rory.
For me this latest episode was about as good as it gets!
Would have been nice if Matt could have turned down the silliness a touch - but still, we cant have perfection... It was still an excellent effort - and one of the few that actually managed to scare me for a few minutes.
Lovely homage to zombies and gothic horror.
I do like the Rebel Flesh, although the vat of goo did seem a little too Auton vat of goo at times with a side order of Cassandra when the mouth and eyes first formed
I thought the goo was meant to be similar to the auton goo, hence the focus on Rory. But I'm just hoping for the centurion thing to have an impact on this season it sort of seems like everyones forgotten.
OMG how monumental was that ending last night? Complete squeegasm as it was completely intense and shocking, what's going to happen next week? It's going to be epic...
Without giving any spoilers away, suffice it to say that a quick look at the cast list for next weeks episode confirms that:
I AM BACK! ;D
Jenny is about to be reborn. one might even say she has Rejennyrated.
she's back and about time too :)
Hopefully people have seen it by now. Yeah, i literally just watched it and thought i'd post.

Amy got kidnapped because some unknown villain wants to use her baby (half timelord & half human) against The Doctor.
The Doctor has become a feared being in the universe and its what's bringing people to wanting to harm him (River Song says something like this).
The trap was suppose to do whatever, but it also distracted The Doctor from the fact that the baby that was with Amy was actually a fake.
In the end it turns out the baby is River Song, and The Doctor pops off to obviously go rescue her.
I believe the confusion maybe because people have been believing Jenny is returning? But that's not the case just yet...
And another thing. The Doctor isn't aware that River can actually regenerate, but we the audience got to see a little girl do so in New York.
The servant of the Silurian was called Jenny I think.
It's a bit like Quantum Physics. If it's not profoundly disturbing you haven't understood it properly.

You're welcome. What questions do you have? Just curious.
Just questions like where the Doctor's going and how River ended up in prison. Things that we all want to know. Although, here's another question for you, why do the humans hate the Doctor so much? Isn't he on their side, he keeps saving them, why do they want to kill him?
Quote from: Pica Pica on June 05, 2011, 07:16:12 PM
The servant of the Silurian was called Jenny I think.
QuoteJenny is the daughter of the tenth incarnation of series protagonist the Doctor (David Tennant), a product of altered DNA extracted from a tissue sample from his hand.
The Doctor cradles her dying form in his arms, and is visibly distraught when she does not revive or regenerate from the wound. In the episode's closing scenes after the Doctor leaves, Jenny revives, takes a small spaceship, and takes off into the unknown to become an explorer like her father

Those are all good questions that will be answered in due time.
I think we have had certain humans that have decided to go against the doctor before, but i think we usually get some sort of answer to why they would (basically bad guys).
I think we'll probably have another episode exploring doppelgangers again...
I have gotten Season One to catch up. It starts out where the Doctor meets Rose. It is great to see the Doctor again, regardless of the regeneration.
wow, I never even saw this thread before. I just happen to look at the more recent post and saw the topic. I was like....noooooo.....
Anyway, I have watched Who since I was a wee one and got back into it late. I guess it took David Tennant to get me to watch again. Basically because my g/f kept saying I was just like the 10th doctor. I was like what??? So I started watching and it kinda grew on me again. I am FINALLY starting to like Matt Smith, but I think it is because the writing is MUCH better this year.
Really happy Torchwood is going to be returning next month too! Will be a great filler until Who returns at the end of the year.
I notice most of the discussion is about the current shows, so don't want to give any Spoilers since I have already seen "A Good Man Goes to War" and know the secret of River Song. It was a pretty good show and I well... I love River Song and I HATE the "spoiler" so I want to cry really. Hope all of you enjoy it.
Oh a kinda same subject.. does anybody ever go to the conventions?
Just watched the last episode of this series too. Must admit I twigged as soon as Amy said the name of her baby. Just have to wait for the next series now dammit! Will just have to make do with 'The L Word' DVD's and Top Gear.

Just waiting for the second half. Roll on September ;D
I thought the newest Torchwood trailer was pretty cool. Got to hear from some of the other characters. I think the news reporter will be a thorn in Torchwood's side (along with everything else).
I am planning to go to a Who convention again this year. Seems like a pretty good crowd. I am not a huge social person at this stage in my transition, but what time I was out and about, I had fun.
I may have to rewatch Torchwood "Children of Earth" soon...
Lia and I are huge Doctor Who fans (and Torchwood, too!). We're catching up on season 6, finally watching all the ones we've recorded, and wow... great season so far!! (not really the rest of this thread in case of spoilers haha)
I LOVE Doctor Who! I'm currently watching all the classics (they aren't that hard to find, I can dig up a good link if you want) after I found out the season was split in two (I had known but forgot, so it was a shock when I remembered).
The last episode was !!! no words could describe it. I didn't see who River was at all until she told Amy.
I don't have a favorite doctor. I of course started watching with 9, but I don't like him that much. Tennant was amazing, but it all started to get very serious with him, too sad, but the acting was superb and I loved how quirky he was. I had my doubts about Matt Smith, but his first episode is one of my top favorite episodes. He's much more cheerful and although he doesn't ramble as much, he has very bizarre tastes and I love his whole outfit :) I've already got myself a bow tie and I made my own custom screwdriver from a laser pen a few months back. I also got my mom to knit me a super long scarf (although not the same colors as the 4th Doctor's). My current favorite Doctor is Peter Davision, but this changes as I watch more and more of the classics.
Back to Matt Smith, I liked the first half of this season, but there seems to be something missing. Everything is much more serious again and there are just WAY too many questions about what's happening. I did enjoy the Silence (scariest monsters yet!), and the Tardis Episode, but I have high hopes that when the show returns I'll get all my questions answered in a very satisfactory manner. I love Doctor Who because of the fact that at the end everything ends up making perfect sense, it just astounds me the complex plots the writers come up with. Amazing.
PS: I too thoroughly enjoy the soundtracks. My favorite is "Every Star Every Planet" (I'm pretty sure that's the title.)
The Doctor and the TARDIS says "Hi". My probably all time favorite Doctor was Tom Baker. (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.wikia.com%2Ftardis%2Fimages%2F8%2F8a%2FTom-baker-thinking.jpg&hash=d4345792558afacc50689743922682f889134247)

At least July 8th is just around the corner so I can watch Torchwood. Figure when that is over, the 2nd half of this season will be starting up again....then the Christmas special. I just hope it will be better then the last one. I can't believe I wasted my time watching fish swim around. I just really hated it!
I was reading somewhere that the last show of the first half may have brought Capt. Jack back like the other characters who owed the Dr. a favour, but Torchwood was being filmed. John Barrowman would like a Doctor Who return, and I would love it if him and Riversong would meet up. They would be just as comical together as Tennant was (as the Doc.) with Donna! I would just die!!
Not sure, but seem to remember a kid's movie starring K-9. Anyone got a clue?
You remember K9 and Company a pilot for a TV series in the early 80's with the late Elisabeth Sladen. A first attempt at the Sarah Jane adventures. It was pretty terrible and had something to do with witchcraft. It seems that in 2012 we are not to get a full series due to a budgetary crisis. The next series is likely to be split between Autumn 2012 and Spring 2013. The 50th anniversary is 23 November 2013 so expect a big special.
I enjoyed this Christmas special more than any of the others, it was magical.
50 years? can't be , someone is messing with the temporal flux!
just one week to go until 'Let's Kill Hitler' airs and all will be right with the telly again :)
I just received the last disc for season 6. Can't wait to watch it.

Oh my gosh I can't believe you just now finished it! :P
Without giving it away, I'm still unsure how I feel about that episode. Perhaps it was just too much revealed at once?

Not really. There is the whole thing about their relationship to deal with.
New Season part deux next week ;D ;D ;D
1963 to 2013 = 50 years (ignoring the 15 year gap since the end of Sylvester McCoy and the one off TV movie). Tom Baker was my childhood Doctor and it doesn't seem like 30 years since he gave up the job!
minor spoilers
last night was so squeetastically brilliant, all the regulars were giving their A game and we finally get to see the birth of River Song (not Melody Pond, that was last episode) plus Hitler, tiny people inside a pretendy person spaceship and cameos by Rose, Martha & Donna as well as little Amelia, apparently the one person in the universe the Doctor can truly count on. Roll on next saturday already, it's like being a kid again, the Doctor is back and the universe needs saving once again :)
tonight was good, the dad really was a good actor, a great match for Matt Smith who once again proved just how right he was for the role and just how great he's going to be in the future
The actor that played the Dad played that devil/policeman in the third series of Ashes to Ashes, was the best thing in that, better than Gene Hunt even.
I was pleased to be back in monster of the week land for a creepy one off.
tonight's episode was great, everyone gave a top drawer performance, especially Arthur who's Rory may never be the same again as I think something's broken between him and the Doctor and it may never be fixed again...
wow, strange episode last night, part cheap and cheerful monster of the week and part examination of the dangers of being one of the Doctor's friends, and the ending was frankly weak, why would parents who've had their baby kidnapped allow themselves to be fobbed off with a nice house and a sprts car? I'm really hoping its a big fake-out by the Doctor and co
Notice how the cuddly minotaur's speech didn't (for a change) get translated by the Tardis? Oops.
And I know Amy has great legs, but I still wish Rory would shove her in the cupboard with Hitler and get a show of his own - he makes me weaker at the knees than she does, and I find her deeply annoying (actually, I find the schoolboy doctor equally so) ;D.
I think the lack of translation was meant to isolate the Doctor from the others, highlighting I guess that they were already being left behind
Sure, plot device > consistency every time :).
last nights ep felt like they told the wrong story, I was bored of Craig after 2 minutes and wanted to see a huge cyber-invasion story with loads of peril and a desperate fight to save humanity, instead it was 2 men and a baby in a shop, with nothing at all happening until the last 2 minutes when it went over to River Song being menaced/prepped for murder...

I tend to skip over any episodes involving Cybermen or the Daleks. Classic Doctor Who, but personally I think that any episode involving them ends up being some of the worst of the season. Ironically it seems that Russ Davies tends to write those... Did he write the new ep?
So far the second half of the season doesn't seem to be as good as the first...
Russell T Davies no longer works on Doctor Who, he moved to the states and has so far concentrated on new Torchwood. Steven Moffat is in charge, writers include Mark Gattiss and Chris Chibnall. There has been some critisism of the new series in the press but I enjoyed it. There are many more Who addicts writing for the show and I can see attempts to try to up the age of the shows audience (perhaps like Harry Potter, the audience is getting older as the show progresses). There are also attempts to move the show from the Troughtonesque Russell T Davies series to a hinchcliffe/dicks inspired show. if they succeed this will only be a good thing.
I do realize it's been a while since anyone posted here, but...YES.
I am very obsessed with Doctor Who ;D I think Matt Smith is my favorite. I'm not quite sure why. Probably because bow ties are cool. I like the awesome awkwardness of his Doctor. Lots of people interpret him as asexual and I'm asexual as well, so that's nice to see. Also, Steven Moffat is a complete genius.

I don't watch Red Dwarf or Dr. Who...
Thats it, I am starting a Woody Allen thread.

I'm in the middle of s4 of the new stuff and will watch s5 and s6 after s4.
The obligatory info: Fav pairing is Rose and Ten. I love Moffet. Haven't seen Torchwood or SJA but want to.

I guessed from your username :D It's very hard to get used to Eleven, but totally worth it! Ten is great too, though. I just wish Moffat could have written more episodes for him!
I prefer 9 with Rose, 10 and Rose were too smug together, I liked 10 with Donna most. I love 11 as well, and Rory but I don't like Amy much, so I am looking forward to the new companions and such.
But 7 and Ace have to be my pairing, 'Come on! We've got work to do.....'

Doctor Who is far more fantastical and deep down wonderful to just be sci-fi.
just got the season 6 blueray boxset today :)
Just finished Journeys End in season 4 a min ago....
Woah. :( is all i can say right now.
I'm a massive Who addict!
Favorite doctors are McCoy and Eccleston, though I have to admit, Matt Smith really grew on me. At first I really didn't like him, but now I find him utterly adorable. I love the way he's just so awkward. "She said you were a Mr. Hottie. She would like to go out with you for... Texting and scones."
I quite liked Amy and Rory though, but I'm really interested to find out what the go is with River. I actually really like her as a character, and once you get past her confusing timeline, she's pretty bada**.
I can't wait for the Christmas special.
I'm hoping this christmas isn't another duff episode like last year's, they never focus on telling a story at x-mas only showing big cgi sequences, give me Blair Witch TARDIS everytime over that approach...
Yeah, the "specials" have become very formulaic - big drama, big music, big running around, big "no-one else is going to die today..." rinse and repeat.
they need to shake things up, maybe kill Amy off next Christmas
well it was ok, more dynamic than last year's story but still no where near the intensity of The End of Time, possibly the first time they told completly the wrong story, it should have been about the RAF pilot and the tree harvesters, that woukld have been much more interesting, I think it's safe to say I don't want the Moff to write another christmas story, they're not his forte.
We get the Christmas Special tonight, so no spoilers please.
I don't know, it was my absolute favourite Christmas special to date! I especially loved the theme behind it. "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," was obviously thought of when they were creating it. :)
Now, I didn't care much for "End of Time." I just really didn't care much for Davies' writing. I thought Tennant is what made his episodes turn out so well. Personally I feel that Moffat's writing allows for a broader audience to enjoy the series. Whenever I introduce a friend to the series, I always show them one of Moffat's episodes (Blink, Girl in the Fireplace, and the past two seasons).
Yup. Moffat's episodes are great. I also was not a huge fan of The End of Time, and now I'm a bit scared to see what will happen to 11 when he regenerates.
I think we may have already been primed for it, with all the talk of the Fields of Tranzenor, the Fall of the Eleventh, the Fall of the Silence and the oldest Question 'hidden in plain sight' being asked...
I have heard that Matt Smith has a five year contract and is set up to be the Doctor for the 50th anniversary. Shame Amy and Rory are going next series but their story is running out of steam. It is time they dropped the christmas element from the special, it is wearing a bit thin. Much better to have an unrelated adventure around christmas time as opposed to the forced 'something christmassy must happen e.g robot santa's, living christmas baubles, spider's web christmas star space ships etc.. The only link to CS lewis was the snowy forest and I didn't get the Tardis as wardrobe motif only being shoehorned in, it isn't as if the Tardis was used to get to the forest.
Jenna-Louise Coleman is the new Who girl, it'll be interesting to see how the new TARDIS dynamic will work and what her character's name will be
I guess we will just have to be patient. They have been running repeats of all the recent series on ABC2 daily for months now.
Karen.
apparently there's 5 episodes this side of christmas, the christmas ep which introduces the new companion and then another 8 episodes next year, I'm not sure if that includes the 50th anniversary or next years christmas story, or if they'll be made seperately.
There's 5 episodes this side of Christmas, with either episode 5 or 6 being the Christmas special in which we meet Jenna. Then we get the other 8. That's it for this year. But then a few months down the line they'll start season 8, which is the fiftieth anniversary. Did any of that make sense? I never know.
I have to say, Matt Smith still hasn't done much for me. David Tenant was awesome. Outside of a few Moffat episodes just really have not been into it much lately.
A vital question: am I the only person that's bothered by this disturbing development??!? :)

less than a week to go now, time to prepare for the television event of the year!
WOW. Amazing return of Doctor Who for Series 7. My new favorite Matt Smith episode, and what maybe an awesome twist for the future. Eased the wounds of not having David Tennant, and one moment he even channeled him. It was great.
I thought that the last episode was fantastic. I'm really hoping that it's a sign of greatness to come. ;D
Back on Saturday!
Ooo just caught ep 7.1! Ahhh love it, also somehow a metaphore for my current life.. is the doctor speaking to me? No, but so happy to see Who back!
So the big question for me is: How come the thing that finally pushed me over the edge into fancying Amy Pond (a profound departure from years of finding her relentlessly irksome) is... cerulean nail varnish?
I'm not sure I can cope with this...
He's Back!
Easy Padma- She Got Hot! ;) So has Rory actually, well a bit anyway. Still a bit of a goose though.
Rory's still way hotter than her. And she's still irksome. But with less eye make-up this week, and the nails matching her stripy top, I'm doomed. Or just desperate at the moment. Whate'er, as they used to say in mediaeval times...
She's still a bit of a pain, but defo hotter.
It's Rory's haircut, and he seems more mature too.
Lots of people here were hanging out for the start of the new series. The ABC's free iView on-line channel showed it during the week to stop pirating. I restrained myself until Saturday night as usual.
The nail varnish is the sweetest thing about her. But I like Rory, he is kind and huggy and collects nursing gear around the universe.
Also, have you seen this?

The Secret Doctrine by Madame Blatavasky. I bought it for a friend.
Yes! Finally a new series of episodes started last week :)
so far the series is 2 for 2 in the excellent column, can't wait for Saturday & Ben Browder :)
Don't diss the Pond. Karen Gillan is as batty as a box of frogs but one day she will rule the world, just you wait and see.
Really not sure what to make of Susan the Stallion. If you're not sure what I mean, you will be.
yeah, wrong pronouns but still funny tho
In so far as it was a "lifestyle choice", clearly not a trans issue, just a name change :).
Omg when Susan came up I laughed so hard I almost cried.. I loved it!

And I heard where the Susan reference came from.
Sorry not telling, Lover. Spoilers.
So is 'Who' trying to add a trans them of jokes.. not giving away a huge amount but in episode 2 this season.. "My first boyfriend was named Rory, actually she was called Nina..." to paraphrase and the Stallion named Susan (but wrong pro noun usage with 'he') just a thought but two out of three having some gender bending transish joke... hmm.. are we leading up to something else?
The first female Doctor, maybe?
Spoilers
I know someone who use to work on the show.
looking forward to this week's episode, forget everything else happening in it, I hope they post the title of the Christmas special
well still not sure what to make of TATM, certainly not as awful as Fear Her (which I've never rewatched since the original broadcast) but to me it hardly makes it out of the bottom ten worst stories ever either, it started off on the wrong foot trying to pretend it was something it didn't have a clue it was pretending to be, clue Film Noir is meant to look dark and all the scenes, costumes and probs washed out almost to monochrome on purpose, not like the 6th Doctor's coat doing the nasty to a Christmas Tree! The Happiness Patrol got the exact same thing wrong 24 years previously (wow how time flies!) lessons should have been learned. I'm now getting a little worried about Christmas, the Moff is 0 for 2 so far, another stinker and I can't see how he'll be allowed to continue on in the job, which is a pity as his era's had 3 truly epic stories in it so far (Vincent and the Doctor, The Doctor's Wife and A Good Man Goes To War).
I thought the Christmas special with the shark was wonderful.
I am enjoying this series far more than the last one. I thought Amy and Rory were given a good ending as they have had a full and proper journey - oddly one of growing normality, as they grow into a mundane life.
So the last episode of this half series has been run.
I like the news of the next companion...
We have met them previously so you will just have to wait.
Oh the pain of these half seasons now...
No "Spoilers" here.
Yes the answer is 42.
I'm a huge Dr Who fan but the background knowledge on this thread is astounding.
I've only read 2 pages so far so sorry if offend any fans of the new doctor with this statement, I hate this new Doctor. There you go I said it & I feel better for it.
I just don't like his way of portraying the Doctor just like I didn't like Sylvester McCoy's Doctor.
When they had the build up to the Doctor dying & I had a list of actors that i'd love to see fill Matts boots. Then they used a get out of jail card & i'm stuck watching more of him.
I think the stories are very good & the writing's superb, there's hardly an episode that goes by without at the very least bringing a lump to my throat or a tear to my eye.
Rory & Amy's exit episode had tears running down my cheeks at least 3 times (I try to never give major story spoilers in case someone is still catching up).
The writers even manage to get me welling up with simple little scenes, one that springs to mind - TINY SPOILER ALERT - Rory's dad asks the Doctor for 1 small favour, in the next shot you see him sitting at the TARDIS door dangling his feet into space as he gazes down at the Earth, as he gazes down he munches on a sandwich & sips on a brew from his thermos flask.
There's something very touching about the simplicity of his request & a certain charm about having his picnic with him.
TINY SPOILER ENDED
I'd like to end this ramble by mentioning something that has no doubt been mentioned, part of the Christmas episode this year was filmed in Bristol, I mentioned it because YAY, i'm from Bristol!!
I wasn't doing anything that day but didn't go down to try & catch a glimpse, if it was any past Doctor then i'd have been there in a flash hoping for an autograph or even just a quick smile from the lovely Mr Tennant :icon_love:
As we have so so many Doctor Who fans I was hoping someone could answer a question that's bothering me.
At the start of the film that killed Sylvesters Doctor (Yay, I liked that...sorry) didn't the voice over say about a timelord only having a certain number of regenerations?
If this is right does anyone know how many Doctors we have left before the writers have to kill the Doctor for all time or come up with a clever story twist to give him more regenerations?
I have it on good authority that our beloved Doctor is a special case.
I think its like two regenerations left after the current one. But then they could change things since it is fiction and still a very popular show.
I've no doubt they'll keep the Doctor alive somehow, I don't envy the scriptwriters who have to think up a story epic enough for the Doctor to break that rule!
I was happy to see in one of the recent episodes that the Doctor is very supportive of the trans community, a big thank you to the scriptwriter who put that in. It made me smile.

I laughed so hard at that I had a coughing fit, more lemsip needed.
As River Song says, the Doctor lies. The thread was always that timelords had 12 regenerations. The Master had used all his up but at the end of The Keeper of Traken he stole the body of Nyssa'a father. Then in the TV movie, after supposedly being vapourised by the Daleks, the master's jelly like essence stole the body of an ambulance driver. From this we know that the 12 regenerations are not the end of a timelord, just the end of their corporeal form.
At the end of the last regeneration, the essence of timelords used to be transferred into the Matrix on Gallifrey. They then existed in a virtual world (see The Deadly Assassin and Parts 11 and 12 of Trial of a Timelord). John Simm's Master states in The Sound of Drums that he was ressurected by the Timelords during the time war but he ran away. After he was cremated by the Doctor Simm's master was again ressurected using chemicals.
The 12 regenerations appears to be an arbitary limit set by the timelords to stop them 'living too long'.
In Let's Kill Hitler, River uses her remaining regeneration energy to save the Doctor. Under the old rules, this would have added 10 regenerations to the doctor's life (River had regenerated twice).
In the Sara Jane Adventure, Death of the Doctor, Clyde is told by the Doctor that he can regenerate over 500 times.
The classic series ran for 24 years and got through seven Doctors in that time. I suppose the 12 regenerations (invented during Tom Baker's reign seemed to be enough.
Interestingly, the change from William Hartnell to Patrick Troughton was described on air as a rejuvination, so it could have been a different thing all together.
Wow, what a fountain of knowledge!
I've watched most of the Doctor Who's that have been televised in my time period but I wasn't born until 75, also because i've spent my life cramming my noggin with sci-fi i've forgotten more than I remember.
There is also the Dr's daughter. We have no idea where she has gone, other than off to explore the Universe. I guess they can always spin her off into another series like they did with Torchwood, if she doesn't inherit his position.
Talkin' 'bout my regeneration... ;D
I think the Doctor will just keep regenerating :)
I started watching the show online a few years back, starting with Eccleston. Instantly hooked. Hated Tennant when he showed up, then I loved him. Hated Smith when he showed up, then I loved him too.
I am planning to watch the older stuff, just haven't gotten around to it just yet.
Everyone wants me to love Matt Smith. I've tried, but I just can't get past him seeming like an overgrown schoolboy. My wish upon a star is for the next doctor to be Benedict Cumberbatch. Damn, he'd be good. Never going to happen, I know, but a girl can dream...
He's already turned the part down once though. Rumour has it that he was first choice before Matt Smith. Rumour also has it that he will be The Master to Smith's Doctor.
I would like to see a slightly older Doctor. Christopher Ecclestone was about right but now we have two young incarnations in succession. If Simon Russell-Beale's not doing Shakespear he'd be good!
Personally I wasn't sure about Matt Smith but he has grown on me part because he kind of reminds me of Patrick Troughten's doctor(apparently that was Matt's plan), Tennant I like but he seems too emotional perhaps too human at times understandable since well for those that may still not know..he is quite alone(a feeling I share at times) Where as Matt comes off alien again.
That said what do I know afterall Colin Baker is becoming one of my favorite doctor's based on the three stories of his I have on dvd.
I have about 50 classic who stories on dvd and none of the new stuff but that is because I want to get as many of the classics as I can before I buy the new stuff and also cause I feel the new stuff's dvds are a tad overpriced.
I'm hoping this years christmas special will be better than the last two, there's just something drearily boring about restricting yourself to the same time period year after year, why not have an epic space battle story for a change with a sudden truce in the middle of it to echo the one held during world war one? I think Moffat needs more cards in his deck as he's playing the same ones far too regularly :(

Now that the world didn"t end yesterday, boy does someone have egg of their face, the Dr Who Xmas speical is only days away.
For us in Oz its Wednesday night on ABC. No more Amy and Rory.
I keep thinking of Rory's dad, still watering the plants and waiting for them to come back :(. I hope he has a good Xmas.
I'm old enough to remember the first series with William Hartnell! A Doctor Who annual was always a Christmas present I enjoyed as a kid I drifted out of si fi as a teenager but sometimes watch Doctor Who the last episode I saw had Doctor Who and an Edsel.

Same. I liked the baddies in this one. I wish Jack could come back through, that would be funny, but this season looks good so far!
Yes it's time for Jack to return.
River looks still to be there which is good.
Anyway I really like his new companion.
I guess I can write this bit because it's not really a spoiler, but I was glad too see married... Well Women? lol. Yeah. I liked how they have put homosexual marriages into the show. I know it's not the first show to do so, but it's always good to see equality in television. Maybe they will continue having more like that in the future
A little off topic but I wanted to put my thought on that here

I'm not expecting to see Captain Jack until the 50th anniversary episode (fingers crossed for "The Eleven Doctors").
Seems like there is a mystery surrounding the new companion... I'm excited to see where they go with this. I'm disappointed that we have to wait until April for more episodes :(

Be careful, Doctor Who can be addicting. After I initially watched all the New Who (Everything after 2005) episodes, I had to go back and watch everything from 1963 - 1989. And the 1996 movie. I thought the quality improved once it was in color!

Yeah, the movie is the only 8th Doctor story (outside of audio plays, novels and comic books...). I put on the old episodes for background noise while doing other things well over a year ago, so I don't remember too much about them now :(.
Loved this year's Xmas special, really looking forward to the new series!

Very cool.
Well I have caught up on all the christmas specials aired on uktv this year. The new one was quite good didn't feel to christmassy to me though. I do like the new T.A.R.D.I.S interior and in reference to comments by people who work on the show saying long time fans will like the new intro I will say this: It was very bright and also I see what you did there you clever clever people.
I am interested in seeing where they take things with the new companion.
Where did you see River in the preview Jenny07? I didn't spot her.
I am looking forward to seeing the explantion behind the new look Cybermen are they the cybus ones upgraded or are they the mondasian cybermen finally returned?
I thought it was the best Christmas story since The End of Time :) I also loved the references to The Abominable Snowmen and The Web of Fear and they're really setting up the mystery of Clara now, pity we have to wait until April to see how she's introduced into the series the third time...

I'm concerned about her becoming the new Rory. I hope she's here to stay after the next time we see her.
APRIL!!???!!
Oooh those bastards....
If you look closely early on in the Xmas show you'll see a road sign for Corn street as a horse drawn carriage goes by, this is in my home town of Bristol (I was drinking in a pub there the week before filming), the park where the TARDIS is hidden looks familiar but i'm not 100% sure where it is.
I'll have to re-watch this episode a few more times & see how many other areas in Bristol I can spot
I love the new look of the TARDIS interior, very 80's retro
I too love the new interior never did the like the yellows of it from 2005 onwards to me the first one with 9 and 10 looked like an inverted Dalek or should that be inside out? The new one makes me think of the classic interiors also the control panels surrounding the console look like they came out of Star Trek. I also like that the console itself looks more classic with a hexagonal design to it.
Definitely looking forward to the new episodes. But first I have three classic boxsets I got for christmas to get through.
I don't like the spinny things in the ceiling, but then I'm easily distracted.
Maybe the spinny thingys will grow on you? Or maybe the won't show them too often...
I had to hop over on youtube and have a peek now, and them spinny things didn't spin all the time. ^_^
is any/every one else looking forward to the 50th anniversary special in November? I'm hoping it'll be epic like The Five Doctors was :)
good news everyone, the 30th of March is the day we've all been waiting for, the first new episode of part 2 of season 7 :)
YAY! I just finally watched the Christmas one this weekend (i'm a little late i know)
In the meanwhile, I'm catching some old episodes on Netflix, now that I tricked it to thinking I'm in the US. (Only had access to the newest stuff before)
Colin Baker says he hasn't been approached for the 50th anniversary episode. Not a surprise as he is several stone heavier than he was in the 80's and has lost his mop of blond curls. In truth, if you wanted to feature all 11 Doctors, you would have to recast the first seven. It would also be extremely difficult to write a script with 11 leading men.
Doesn't rule out a multi Doctor story featuring No's 9 to 11 though and Paul Mcgann would still be able to do it.
A couple of years ago I wanted to play around with Webkit (the thing Google Chrome uses to draw webpages) and I made a simple Dr. Who inspired web browser called "Tardis". I even made a dropdown to select different themes besides the default "Police Box", of course selecting anything else would display an error message saying that the chameleon circuit was broken!
I never got around to hooking it in to the wayback machine to view past versions of websites. I also never figured out how to save user logins to web sites like gmail...
Well apparently Tom Baker has been approached and seems more open to returning now then in the past, however like Colin he has also out on weight and lost his signature hair. Although with enough make-up, wigs and some select camera angles they could pull it off. That or do what someone suggested in the fandom and have the doctors be him from different dimensions/realities where they lived longer before regenerating that would help explain the differences, Peter Davison and Sylvester McCoy haven't changed too much in comparison.
Maybe Sylvester McCoy will fill in for Colin Baker (again)?
the good thing with Colin's regen is we didn't actually see him die, all we saw was the middlepoint of the regeneration, so Colin's Doctor could have lived to a good long age and could play the Doctor as he is now, and as we never saw Paul McGann regenerate he can play the Doctor as he is now too :)
Princess Rachel, I thought I should warn you of a very dangerous mistake you are about to make, that isn't a jammy dodger in your profile picture, it's a self destruct button!!!
For pity's sake step away from the jammy dodger button before someone gets hurt
A bunch of us have just started up a roleplaying game where we all play UNIT agents. I'm playing a cantankerous, foul-mouthed Scottish Home Office liason.
The GM wouldn't let me be a time-traveller, boo! Heheh.

Unlikely, given the present-day setting, but I may be able to wrangle a modern equivalent, if I'm very well-behaved, hehe.
I just ordered this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009YJWGKK/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009YJWGKK/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00)
I had one of those on my christmas wishlist but didn't get it.. on the plus side I did get a signed copy of Tom Baker's autobiography.
The other day I saw someone wearing the Tom Baker scarf with a deerstalker hat.
Can't say I'm a fan at all..

I think these show what a lie that is..
good news for the 50th anniversary year, the classic story The Tenth Planet is to be released on DVD with the lost episode 4 recreated in animated form, this is a huge step forward as it's the final story to feature the original Doctor and episode 4 is the first one to show us a regeneration, The Ice Warriors is also getting a release but it's not been confirmed wether eps 2 & 3 will be animated or if they'll recycle the short 'tele-snap' reconstruction they pieced together for the 40th anniversary VHS release
Woot, The Cybermen are my favorite villains from Doctor Who. I personally would rather those missing episodes be animated over the telesnaps so it feels complete. It would feel half arsed if done that way(though I am sure it takes alot of work still)

just rewatched The Ark in Space, a very early story from Tom Baker's era as the Doctor and it's become something of a classic over the years, and I certainly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen the early years of the show but is curious to watch it.

Now I'm going to have to confess I'm not an avid Whovian. I sorta like it, especially Hartnel, McCoy and Eccleston, but find so many aspects seem to irk me every so often. Currently, I just can't follow the story line at all. Though compared to the insulting and stupid acting, writing, direction and filming during the entire 70s and 80s, it's not that bad and in no small part may be due to the way TV schedulers here seem to thing that the order does matter.
But am I not correct in saying that, apart from the Dr and possibly the Master, everyone from Gallifrey was killed in the Last Great Dalek war?
Now given that, I seem to recall that every previous instance of several Drs acting and working together, has always been at the behest of the High whatevers on Gallifrey?
If that's the case, then the only way for the current Dr to bring back earlier Drs, will be to revive them and if he can do that, then presumably he could revive the all good people of Gallifrey?
At this point I have a feeling that someone is going to politiely advise me of such and such episode where this and that was done or discovered making the whole thing possible. I will genuinely look forward to that as I really do not quite underdstand.

I'll try my best...
QuoteBut am I not correct in saying that, apart from the Dr and possibly the Master, everyone from Gallifrey was killed in the Last Great Dalek war?
The Doctor and the Master survived the final day of Gallifrey, the Master was killed but had been resurrected by the Time Lords, they apparently upheald their promise from The Five Doctors to give him a new cycle of regenerations. Rassilon tried and failed to break Gallifrey out of its fate and so the planet fell into fire and death. Romana was locked inside of a parallel mini-universe known as e-space and did escape from it in the books and audios, but wether this is shown to be official in the TV show remains to be seen.
QuoteNow given that, I seem to recall that every previous instance of several Drs acting and working together, has always been at the behest of the High whatevers on Gallifrey?
In The Three Doctors the president authorises the removal of the first two Doctors from his time line to assist the third Doctor, much to the displeasure of the then Chancellor. In The Five Doctors the Doctors are pulled out of time by Borusa who has become corrupted by power and desires immortality to rule forever. In The Two Doctors the 2nd Doctor is sent on a mission by the time lords to investigate certain time experiments and then his 6th self gets caught up in them, apparently not remembering much about what happened to himself back in his earlier life. In Dimensions in Time the Rani causes a wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey event that causes the Doctor and his companions to move about in time and space in London. In Time Crash a different w-w t-w event causes the 10th Doctor to meet up with his earlier 5th incarnation who suddenly ages a great deal physically, to absorb the time differential.
QuoteIf that's the case, then the only way for the current Dr to bring back earlier Drs, will be to revive them and if he can do that, then presumably he could revive the all good people of Gallifrey?
The Doctor's timeline seems to be intact, as the scanning device in Vincent and the Doctor projected images of the first and second Doctors on its display.
QuoteAt this point I have a feeling that someone is going to politiely advise me of such and such episode where this and that was done or discovered making the whole thing possible. I will genuinely look forward to that as I really do not quite underdstand.

No, you didn't get it from me. But thanks for sharing, since I can pass it on to my Doctor Who loving friends! :D
Tuned into the latest episode last night, billed as the death of the Dr and featuring Karen Gilliam in the credits.
Karen Gilliam was on briefly for about 30 sec. The Dr. didn't die at all, just another close shave. (How unusual). Plenty of cryptic stuff, references to other characters who I also can't figure out.
The acting and production has improved enormously since the 70s and 80s. Sadly, the story lines seem to have become even more convoluted. Love to know what's going on. Love to wathc it regularly. But unless I am prepared to watch TV regularly, there's no way of knowing when so it's just a hit or miss.
Isn't that the title of the 'The Sarah Jane Adventures' episode that had the 11th doctor in and saw the return of Jo Grant?

Now you've completely lost me.
I've seen the Sarah Jane Adventures featured, but only looked at one. A sort of spin off as I recall. Looked interesting but sadly, only saw it once.
Jo Grant. Isn't that the ditzy one who was smitten with Jon Pertwee?
Yes she was, it was a two part episode of SJA which saw Sarah Jane meet the 11th doctor for the first time and also featured U.N.I.T, I have only seen it online.
But what you described fits that episode, I do not quite recall an episode of the main show like it.
Last night I watched Dr Who & the Daleks, as the Dr isn't a timelord but a scientist I was wondering if this film is considered part of the Dr Who timeline?
Also, in the film the lights in the TARDIS come on when the door is opened & you can clearly see the windows on the other side of the TARDIS giving away the small size of the police box, is there an explanation for this or should stop being so picky?
I don't think it's considered canon, but it's based on a story from the Who timeline. I don't remember which one right now, but Wikipedia should be able to tell you :)
Thank you for the reply, i've looked on Wiki & the film was based on the first TV appearance, imaginatively titled The Daleks starring William Hartnell
The Daleks drags something awful, but not as much as The Chase.
That was the first of two Peter Cushing Dr Who movies with the second being Daleks Invasion Earth: 2150 AD based on the story The Daleks Invasion Of Earth. Both are based on first doctor William Hartnell stories. I have both of the cushing films on dvd and love them. They are not canon but are still enjoyable and I believe technically the first doctor who related stories in colour.
have you got a link to the episode you were referring to earlier?
This is a link to the Wiki page about The Daleks http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Daleks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Daleks)
this is a link to the Wiki page about The chase http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chase_%28Doctor_Who%29 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chase_%28Doctor_Who%29)
A sorry I meant the one you mentioned about the doctor dying.
Anybody else feel this way?

it's not an addiction, it's a healthy lifestyle :)
Less than 17 days til the show returns
Also picked up Ambassadors Of Death and The Legacy Boxset today, didn't think The Legacy set was due out yet but I saw two copies at one store and just one copy ie the one I bought at another store. It runs about 40 dollars here in aus not sure bout anywhere else. Now to see how Shada goes.
the reconstruction of Galaxy Four on the rereleased The Aztecs DVD is very good and gives a decent reproduction of the story, although a full-length version would have been better imo but maybe they'll keep that back for when another epsiode is recovered?
I just finished the last of my Jelly Babies. They're really, really sugary so I don't expect to buy more anytime soon (I don't know how the 4th Doctor ate so many of them!)
I actually can't stand jelly babies myself, my substitute would be gummi bears
Yes, jelly babies are pretty OTT, but dammit, now I want jelly beans (3rd day of sugar cold-turkey).
less than a week to go now until the Bells :) has anyone seen the prequel yet? it's a bit obvious what's going on imo but that doesn't make it less enjoyable and Matt sitting alone at the start is possibly the saddest sight ever seen in the new series...
I don't get why he is wearing his old suit when he has a new one in the bells of st john and he referenced meeting her twice and he had a different suit then aswell. So why then does he have his old jacket on?
I'm so freakin' excited for Saturday! My mate and I are counting down the days till we get to watch it. 5 days now!
I hope this season will be better than last. It started out strong but.... ugh. Dinosaurs on a spaceship.
How could you possibly mess up Dinosaurs on a Spaceship?!?
I hope it's not too warm to wear my 4th Doctor scarf on Saturday! I should make sure my T.A.R.D.I.S t-shirt is clean too :D

DVR'd tonight's episode, going to watch it in a little bit. Can't wait!
I enjoyed it! I assume you all will too :)
At the risk of sounding overzealous about what can be a very silly programme indeed, Doctor Who transcends gender and is about being human. It's about the romantic notion of being able to jump into a magic blue box and go to any place or time where your morals and courage are tested and the forces of right usually win based on little more then their intellect and resilience.
It is a show that has been around for 50 years this November and it is about a humanoid alien who travels through time and space with various companions in a time/spaceship that is seemingly forever stuck in the disguise of a blue london police box, he battles mostly with his wits against various monsters both human and alien to solve problems at the location of where he winds up(no control on where he goes) very rarely resorting to being physically involved(in theory) aside from sometimes a little sabotage, he has been played(officially) by 11 actors to date with each version having a different personality and appearance while in essence still being the same person he was originally. His mainstay villains(again some human) are Daleks, Cybermen(my favorite), Silurians to name a few and the new series will see the return of a classic monster/villain not seen since 1974 in the 3rd doctor's penultimate story.
Oh and nowadays there is alot of running.
last night, better than feared but not quite as good as I'd hoped from a season opener, still there's a lot of pluses and the ending felt earned and not like it was a random last-minute addition, I hope to see where the next seven episodes go from here...

Is there something relevant to being transgender on Dr. Who?
Only at the very end of a non-canonical comedy spoof from the 90s: Rowan Atkinson is Doctor Who - Classic Comic Relief (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Do-wDPoC6GM#)
There's been references to being gay and transgender in the show, always very matter of factly and no fuss. Me like.
Just watched the season premiere ep last night, and as usual I spent the entire time thinking something along the lines of: "HOLYMOTHEROFCOWSTHISISFREAKINGAMAZINGILOVETHISSHOWSOMUCHIT'SNOTEVENFUNNY".
Seriously, that was great. Can't wait for the next episode ;D
I don't know. I found the Doctor's relationship to his new companion to be... creepy stalkerish. Like, Edward/Bella creepy.
I don't see it at that level of creepy just yet and I hope they don't go there. But I liked the whole idea of wifi soup. Sounds delicious :P
David Tennant will be in the 50th Anniversary special!
David Tennant! David Tennant! David Tennant! :D :D :D :D :D
SQUEEE! :icon_joy:
Wasn't sure if that had been completely validated and not just bbc magazine jumping the gun but yes apparently David Tennant and Billy Piper are signed on to return for the special.
Might be Rose and The Meta-Crisis Doctor John Smith we see though. Unless they do classic and have it be ten and rose from earlier in their season together so like pre-Dalek and Cybermen invasion.
looking forward to the return of the Zygons too
Alright been confirmed ten and rose are returning as there are pics of matt and david holding their copies of the script and also david and billie have been photographed filming(or at least between take) also Ten's tardis has been spotted while filming also.
Also interesting to see the return of those mentioned by Princess Rachel. I thought it was odd people saying the whispermen were the villains of the story(still might be) as I thought they were creatures/villains of the crimson horror story certainly appear like they would fit in the year that seems to be taking place in, for that matter they would fit in the story hide aswell based on mood for it.
not impressed with tonight's show to be honest, although the last five minutes were very good, not one I'll probably rewatch when I get the blu ray
I MISSED THIS WEEKS EPISODE!!!!
I'm booking an hour later this week to watch it on the I-player in the hostels PC room but i'm gutted I won't get to watch it on my massive TV. :(
New series looks good.
Cold War was good, been a long time since there was anything that atmospheric and claustrophobic, Dalek in 2005 I think, and fun to see Ser Davos Seaworth as the submarine captain :)
My only complaint is they were speaking english before and after the tardis arrived.
By the way how did Skalek's head fit inside the helmet? It was smaller in width than his actual head.
Haven't you learned anything from the TARDIS? His helmet was clearly bigger on the inside.
True, still doesn't explain the language issue though.
As the TARDIS travels in time & space it exists in every point of time & knew we'd need translations so it sent the translation matrix ahead of itself (it's smart like that) ;)
That would work if the doctor didn't back up that their language translates when in a certain distance to the tardis.
Having said that doesn't explain in old shows when they are nowhere near it lol
Retroactively thinking the explaination(first brought up in the christmas invasion) is good but doesn't totally explain it, so all good.
maybe the TARDIS was already inside everyone's house at the time? ;)
I wonder how difficult it would be to make a transition regeneration sequence?
Hide was better than expected :)
I put a sign on my door for last weeks episode telling everyone at the hostel not to disturb me whilst Dr who was on & half way through the episode people came knocking on my door!!
They were in the middle of an argument & within seconds I was shouting at them to get the hell out of my flat, I hardly ever raise my voice!
I ended up switching the episode off as it had been interrupted, i'll watch it on fridays repeat & God help anyone who knocks on my door during that hour!!
Argument or not it was still disrespectful of them to ignore your wishes.
I agree with Emerald, it's rudeness of unspeakable depths to ignore your wishes
I loved Doctor Who. Yet not that much anymore. After Donna, that show got boring. I never liked Amy, anyway.
tonight was mainly filler with a light bit of teasing, I think this season over all has been weaker than the Moff's first two, it's almost like watching a lot of unconnected drama plays all featuring the same few people in them, I do worry that the show's lost its way and it's time for a new hand on the rudder

The connected story lines are essentially a modern thing for Dr.Who.. There were a few times in the old Who series when it happened, the Key to Time as an example, but for the most part, they were just a collection of stand alone stories with e Dr and his companion(s).
I think the decision to have no two parters this year has backfired badly. 45 minutes is too short a time to develop characters other than the leads and everything feels a bit rushed. Storylines are thin as you cannot build any complexity in that time frame. It is also difficult to build tension.
These episodes are equivalent to the filler stories during the Davidson era, two parters such as Black Orchid and The Kings Demons. Writers such as Terrance Dicks used to hate six parters as they were too long and they had to effectively split the story into a 4 part segment and a two part segment (e.g. The Seeds of Doom, 2 parts in Antartica, 4 parts in the UK). No one was happy about the two parters, hence two three part stories in the McCoy seasons.
I think the best format is one story over 2, 45 minute episodes (the equivalent of the old 4 part story). This gives time for subplots, not too rushed a pace and more complicated storylines.
that was a pretty good story this week, but looking forward to next week...
Nightmare in Silver was the first one I've really, really liked in ages.
The Crimson Horror and Nightmare in Silver are my favourite episodes this series.
I wish they had two parters as well. I love it when I have to wait for the end of the story and I'm held in suspense. I used to write fanfiction in between two parters, trying to guess at the ending. xD
If yo uwatch the best classic who, you had complex story characters beyond the principal artistes. Lightfoot and Jago in The Talons of Weng Chiang, Scorbie in the Seeds of Doom, etc. Now all you get is characters based on rough sketches.
I'm also not happy about the development of the cybermen. they are rapidly becoming nothing more than another bunch of Robots. They also now seem to owe a lot to the Borg in Star Trek. Given that the Borg were a rip off of the original Cybermen, it is curious that the new cybermen are rip offs of another show's villian which itself was a rip off of the cybermen.
When Kit Pedlar and Gerry Davis created the Cybermen their was a distopian sadness at their core. These were beings forced by circumstance to replace organic organs and limbs with mechanical spare parts. To survive this they disposed of emotion. They were created at a time when medicine and technology was making things like heart and liver transplants possible. They were creatures who's planet had run out of resources, desperate to find a new home.
It seems that all this back story has been ditched and we have nothin more than the equivalent of the Cylons in the original Battlestar Galactica. Today we live in a world where Kit Pedlar's vision is coming true. People have attached themselves to computers and implanted computer chips into themselves, we are starting to use stem cells to grow replacement organs. We have developed limbs for amputees which are closing in on providing a mechanical alternative to the real thing. This is what Pedlar and Davis were thinking about and they questioned whether this could go too far. I would have thought that concept would have been enough to bring new life to the Cybermen.
I liked this weeks show, i've always had a gripe with the ponderously slow movements of the Cybermen.
If you can upgrade yourself then why make your new body slower than the old one? Seeing the Cybermen moving quickly brings back the menace that they've lost over recent years.
While I like some of the new 'additions' to the cybermen I agree with Pippa on alot of things as it does feels like they have lost their original menace and intent and at times do feel like those in charge have forgotten they came before the borg(least I know why I like the borg now). That said I do feel that at times they swapped from looking mechanical and looking plastic so while that could be taken as a gripe they originals were like that and these days anything hi-tech seems to use plastic covering then metal anyway...cars anyone?
Also I noted the doctor's outfit matched what he will be wearing in the 50th anniversary special so good to know they are establishing it early even if it is only a change of waistcoat/vest.
totally amazing episode and wow what an ending, roll on the 23rd of November...
I did NOT see that ending coming. 188 days until the next episode!
Interesting Omissions made in the episode one in particular was odd considering the rumors that are circulating.
I wonder if we need a new Doctor Who topic with a "Spoilers ;)" tag where we can discuss rumors and upcoming stuff...
Probably lol
The Whispermen were meh I guess, but then it is hard to find a monster that 'frightens' me anyway in anything.

I'm kind of surprised we don't have a spoilers bbcode that fold up the text in a spoilers box. It's good for other things, too, like large pics, huge strings of text, that kind of thing.
I just got caught up on all the new seasons. I didn't like the second half of season 7 all that much, but that could be because I really like Amy and Rory. :P
I discovered this show only recently. Can't get the DVD's anywhere in germany, though. :( Edit: Matt Smith quits Doctor Who

Au revoir Matt Smith, bon voyage.

Twelve is imminent!
What if they have a female Doctor this time? :D
This has to be BS cause he already confirmed he was filming the christmas special in september and then returning early next year to film series 8, why say that if he had already decided to leave.
If it is true then shame cause to me he has been the most like the doctor of old since well number 8(he counts) I was hoping he'd stick around for another year at least to beat Tennant's record. All I can say is it better be a bloody good send off.

Search for "curse of the fatal death" on youtube...
I hope the next Doctor will seem just as awkward as his predecessors.
Just heard an interesting comment on a TV phone in this morning.
Dr Who has been a role model for several generations of young boys who solves his problems with his brain, not his fists.
Good point.
Not really a big TV fan these days, but gonna check out that Youtube clip, simply because the title is so.................preposterus.
Just watched. Brilliant. So many searching questions answered. So many intriguing possibilities.
I've never really ALLOWED myself to cry at tv shows or movies, but Doomsday (Season 2 finale) was quite the tear jerker.
BBC confirmation or not I still think it is BS, partly cause he said he will be back to film series 8. Also could be mis-information for build up.
The SO and our friend are watching it in the other room right now. I can hear it.

Go watch! You'll like it, I promise. Especially if they're watching a David Tennant episode. If you haven't seen it, ask them to put on the episode called "Blink" so you can get a good feel of the show.
from what I've read on facebook, so this could well be totally wrong, a memo was e-mailed out to all BBC staff instead of the correct few staff it needed to go to, advising them that they would have a new Doctor for the start of season 8, next year. Apparently within an hour of this being revealed, the BBC released an announcement that there would be an embargoed announcement by midnight that night, which some newspapers seemed to break early by revealing their Sunday front covers around 10pm onwards. One can only speculate that Matt returning for season 8 was a smokescreen to cover the upcoming regeneration this Christmas, or maybe he did change his mind, until someone high up in the BBC goes on the record in an interview and explains everything I think it'll remain one of those gray areas

It would give some variety, that's true. But what kind of Doctor would she be? The last few doctors had quite the unique personalities. Might be a little difficult to find the Doctor being female and reacting to it. Should definitely be ginger, though.

I dunno - a female Doctor with the Doctor's personality would be a lot of fun to watch. But that would be incredibly hard to get right.
And they should definitely work in Matt Smith's 'I'm a girl?!' Somehow. :)

Another idea:
(Doctor regenerates)
Doctor: What the?-
(looks at first like the Doctor's new gender bothers her but then:)
Doctor: Still not ginger?
I'm picturing something like this:
Quote
THIRTEENTH DOCTOR: Emma, look, I've got atheric beam locators.
EMMA: No Doctor, I'm afraid those are actual breasts.
THIRTEENTH DOCTOR: (peering down coat) Are you sure? I think I can see the 'on' switch.
EMMA: No Doctor, we have to face facts. You've come back to life and this time you're a woman.
THIRTEENTH DOCTOR: Really? I've always wanted to get my hands on one of these.
(She feels her body with her hands.)
EMMA: Unfortunately, I haven't.
THIRTEENTH DOCTOR: You're mother's going to get a bit of a surprise at the wedding, isn't she? Do you think we'll both wear white?
EMMA: I'm afraid Doctor, and I'm not sure if this sentence has ever been used so completely accurately before but, you're just not the man I fell in love with.
THIRTEENTH DOCTOR: Well never mind. We can still rattle around the universe, fighting monsters and saving planets. What could be more fun? My best friend by my side, my trusty old TARDIS and, of course...
(She pulls out a familiar object.)
...my sonic screwdriver.
(She switches it on a it begins to vibrate.)
Ooh look, it's got three settings!

but she's dead. Or is it timey-wimey-wibbly-wobbly?
I don't know. One could make the argument that John Hurt could be the next doctor.
Benedict Cumberbatch! :D
No, wait... He's a great Sherlock, but he'd make a horrible Doctor. :(
Problem is then River would know she is the doctor so that means the doctor married himself...well his ego might just make that possible I guess.
I like John Hurt but feel he is too old now to stick to the role for a long period and unless they supersede the limit(probably will) the 12th doctor needs to stick around for a long time. Longer than Matt and perhaps longer than Tom Baker(thought Matt would beat him). But yes I feel he is too old now maybe if the show had it's old format and not so much running then yeah he could do it. Besides he seems to have a penchant for revealing details he is not meant to.
I think if the role hasn't already been cast maybe cast a relative unknown again like they did with Matt.

But, let's work this out using already established facts:
In "Let's Kill Hitler" River passes all of her regenerations to the Doctor in order to save his life
this could have introduced some of her (let's say soul for want of a better word) to mix with the Doctor's, and will allow him to regenerate based on her physical and probably mental template. (Remember how well she can handle the TARDIS and just how will/did she learn this
that's certainly time-wimey-wibbly-wobbly at work) as well as an explanation for additional regenerations beyond the 13 that has been cannon for Doctor Who.
In "A Good Man Goes to War" The Doctor asks River "Who are You? in response she places his hand on the cot he told Amy and Rory was his (he got it out to put Melody Pond's flesh avatar in, though at this point they don't know she's an avatar) and a few meaningful glances are passed between them and he then says "but that means you and I..." and then a lot of unfinished sentences later he's "over the moon" as he gets into his TARDIS at this point he really knows who River is and is certain that she will be OK.
In "The Name of the Doctor" she says " If I'm supposed to be connected to Clara then what am I still doing here?" and then leaves on "Spoilers, Good bye sweetie."
As spoilers go this is a doozie and one that has been foreshadowed copiously as I have just mentioned. Therefore I am certain that River will be the Doctor.

Squick.
point of logic, River didn't give the Doctor quite everything, she kept just enough regeneration energy to slowly age backwards as she grew older (to account for Alex filming her stories pretty much in reverse order to the show)
Can I cast my vote for the next Doctor being played by Brian Blessed, I don't care about his age, he's just the best actor ever & would really make the role his own.

Wouldn't say never, Colin Baker appeared as Maxill in the Peter Davison story Arc Of Infinity before being cast as the 6th doctor. Also producers in the past have shown interest in actors who have appeared before in the show to take the part. So not likely but not something that could be said will never happen. If anything only reason he couldn't do it is his schedule and as such probably wouldn't be on the show long anyway.

Apparently 7PM (GMT) this Sunday BBC will be broadcast a live television event where they will reveal who will be playing The Doctor next!!! ;D
I think it's kind of lame that the re-generation will happen again in a Christmas special -_-
So how about Jeremy Clarkson?
Already works for the BBC...
And has a terrible dress sense
Thus a perfect fit!

The bookies have stopped taking money on Peter Capaldi (Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It). Top actor, Dr Who Fan, and has worked with Moffat before. Either that or it's someone you've never heard of.
Tom Baker is hugely popular in the UK and was my generations Doctor. He was however, particularly towards the end of his tenure "difficult". He got mixed up in the Soho Drinking scene with the likes of Jeffrey Bernard and felt that Who was his to write, direct and muck about with. After seven years it became his show and he almost felt he could adlib at will. His autobiography is very enlightening.
that said, the man is a legend and the definitive Doctor.
Can't wait.

Now officially tied for oldest actor to play the doctor with william hartnell who was also 55 when he was cast and also the first actor since Colin Baker to be older then his predecessor when cast, the total is four actors are older then their predecessors when cast. As for acting I am sure he does since he is the first actor to play the doctor who has won an Oscar.
I would have still preferred someone a bit younger though but I'll wait and see maybe he'll be good. :)
True but to be honest I like they went the older route to change it up a bit and also I see him being a bit like Jon Pertwee so perhaps more hands on. Totally going to miss Matt though, it is a shame that my favorite look of his that felt like the doctor of old is his look he only has in his final four stories.

*SPOILERS* Peter Capaldi is the New Doctor! - Doctor Who (2013) - BBC (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDGzzGRKukE#)
I'm really happy with Peter Capaldi! Although of course Matt was a bit easier on the eye. Capaldi can act though (not that Matt couldn't), he's a comedic genius and he can do really serious stuff too (Children of earth anyone? Torchwood?). So I think he'll be a great Doctor even though I'll probably relate to him differently because of his age.
Right at the end of that when he says "I am the new doctor" his grin reminds me of Tom Baker's 4th doctor grin.

I'll be happy to see Matt Smith move on, he never did it for me at all.

Peter Davison to Be in Doctor Who 50Th Anniversary Episode (http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/tv/news/peter-davison-338531.html)
September 13, 2013
Peter Davison has confirmed he will appear in the 'Doctor Who' 50th anniversary special.
The 62-year-old actor, who played the Fifth Doctor in the BBC sci-fi series from 1981 to 1984, admitted he is going to play a part in the one-off episode on November 23 and while he is looking forward to seeing it all come together, he is remaining tight-lipped about the specific details of his role.
He told BANG Showbiz: "I'm making an appearance somewhere over that period of time but I can't reveal in what.
"I can't reveal anything specific about it. I'm not allowed to.
"It is a big year for the show and we're all doing our bit for it. Trust me."
There was also photos released/leaked of what appeared to be Tom Baker filming with no indication how old/recent the pics were other then they seemed to be in the same or similar location as the pics of Matt and David being interviewed and Hurt walking aswell as the Zygon for the scene where the queen and 10 are running away, also they were a bit hazy but you can't miss the scarf, full length scarf at that.

good news for all classic series fans as nine previously lost episodes from the 60's have been recovered. All from the 2nd Doctor's era (the inestimable Patrick Troughton) they allow the completion of the story 'The Enemy of the World' and near-completion of 'The Web of Fear' (just episode 3 remains unrecovered). 'The Enemy of the World' is being released on DVD on the 25th of November this year, with 'The Web of Fear' to follow in early 2014. All episodes have already been made available on itunes, for those who buy apple inc products (I don't).
eleven nights before the 50th, so I'm going to count down from 11 to 1 literally with a story every night, tonight it's A Good Man Goes to War :)
I am hazarding a guess that Davison makes his appearance in the mini-sode that has been mentioned 'The Night Of The Doctor' that will be released before the anniversary special. Also had no idea he was 62.
Yes, all the Doctors from before the new series are looking a bit the worse for wear and getting rather long in the tooth. Understandable since we are talking between 20-30 years ago! I remember watching the Five Doctors 20th Anniversary special and they had a look alike play Hartnel's Doctor. I was kind of hoping they'd do the same for everyone pre-dating the current series in the 50th but it would seem not.
I take it you've seen the 1'30" trailer?
Well the reason I was surprised to read he is 62 is purely because to me he doesn't look it, seems he has aged well.
1'30" trailer?
The Night Of The Doctor mini episode has been released go watch it now if you haven't already and remember spoilers.
Wow, now that one i didn't expect to see. But i am not going to spoil it for you because, in the words of River Song:

seems like the majority of missing episodes have been found. let's hope it's true. I think it is. Someone (probably an insider) posted pictures of some of the actual video tapes.
That would be very awesome indeed!
Somebody mentioned me? ;D
Hint - my user name isn't entirely a coincidence - and indeed back in the dim and distant past I did have a solid professional connection with the show when I was a BBC person, all of which is already on record thanks to a previous incarnation of me on this site - and indeed early in this very thread. But like my name sake I am apt to "regenerate" every so often, this time into a real life medic. I'm actually taking my first session out on the wards in scrubs tomorrow!
I might even paraphrase someone - i've become "the definite article you might say!" ;)

Tonight I watched the BBC drama about the birth of Dr Who, all I can say without spoilers is that at times it was funny & at times it was sad.
I strongly recommend you all check out the BBC Iplayer if you didn't see it

If my memory serves me right it was called "an adventure in space & time"
It was a drama that told the story of how Dr Who struggled to our screens & hearts, as it's based on real events i'd describe it as a drama-documentary.
I would be shocked if it isn't on the BBC iplayer by now
The most beautiful scene is when Matt Smith looks at Bradley as Hartnell in an reverent and proud way. With bad writing this would have been awful, but the way they did it, it was one of the best scenes in the drama-documentary.

I would have written that scene with all of the Dr's that followed Hartnell being present giving that look, with modern technology it would have been possible to do, apart from that it was perfection

We get to see it tomorrow night, I can't remember the time but my Tivo box has it set in stone so i'll be able to watch it again & again.
I'm so exited I could crush a grape
If anyone comments on it after viewing then please keep in mind that not everyone will get to see it at the same time so please rememer the golden rule. . . . no spoilers
My understanding, which could be wrong of course, is that they're screening it in Australia at the same time as the UK. And that will be across all three time zones, so I'm glad I'm in Sydney where it will at least be 6.30 in the morning, not in Perth where it will be 3.30am!
It is going to be shown everywhere in the world at the same time. 2:50 pm EST

loved the ending with you-know-who. The long talk he had with 11 and that sad look he gave him, i think he knows of 11's regeneration. How? I would guess wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey. Glad they bridged the 8-8.5-9 gap.

I loved it and I do not get all the complaints about the ending I feel the episode explained it well and without giving too much away the way it happened made sense to me. I just hate how we have to wait like 9-10 months now until we see new episodes.

Matt Smith took several episodes for me to warm up to after David Tennant. I expect Peter Capaldi will be the same (and I also expect that lots of people will complain about wanting the old Doctor back)

I'm going to go against popular public opinion and say that I didn't ever warm to Matt Smith & i'm glad to see the back of him.
I'm hopefull about the new Dr, for many regenerations now we've had young Dr's & I hope that having an older Dr will give a different perspective.
One of the appeals of Dr Who has been a fresh feeling every time a new Dr wields the sonic screwdriver but for the 3rd Dr in a row we've had a jumpy, energetic & erratic Dr, it's time for something slightly bitter to cleanse the pallette.
Yes, I have to say I really liked the older versions of Matt Smith that we saw in the Xmas special, they forced him to slow down and made him less frenetic. I liked Matt, took me while to warm to him, but when I re watched his earlier episodes I realised the problem wasn't with him but with some of the stories which were often all over the place, repetitive or outright silly. Loved the 50th, liked the Xmas special (mostly). I get the feeling that with Capaldi we might see a return to Pertwee and even Hartnell style Doctors...time will tell I guess!
I am saving my judgement of Capaldi til after a few of his episodes have aired as Matt Smith took me awhile to aswell but I got use to him quicker then Eccleston(didn't really like) and even Tennant I take in doses. I am glad we have an older actor as the doctor just for something different. As for Jenna Coleman the last I read she was signed until at least the end of series 8.
Ms Grace, I agree with you about the stories often being a bit silly, often writers will write with an actor in mind to play to his/her personality/strengths, I believe this is when characters come truly to life.
The last 3 actors have been young & energetic so I think the Dr's reflected this. Capaldi gives off an air of authority & maturity, hopefully this will rub off on the Dr to give us the kind of Dr that we've not seen in decades
Peter Capaldi apparently tweeted "I have had a big say in my costume, I can't give too much away, but all I have to say is.... "No regrets, no tears and no anxieties""
Quoting William Hatrnell The First Doctor in The Dalek Invasion Of Earth.
I am intrigued now.
Shame we have to wait until August to see anything new!
Well I am hoping for costume pic leaks as I am working on a custom project of him. But yeah it sucks we have to wait so long especially since it may not start until September now as the filming block is set to end in August.
BTW did anyone catch the Five(ish) Doctors? Written by Peter Davidson and staring him, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy as themselves trying desperately to get a part in the 50th Special - it's pretty darn funny and has cameos from Smith, Tenent, Moffat and many others. Great stuff!
I watched it online a few days ago and loved it.
I kicked off on Tom Baker, so Capaldi appeals. I personally wanted Tamsin Greig to play the next one, after Neil Gaiman so brilliantly added that timelords DO shift sexes with the Corsair.
Fun game... you have been cast as the next doctor who. Pick YOUR costume and decorate YOUR tardis console.
T.A.R.D.I.S: I would have a cross between what the 8th doctor had in the tv movie and the current interior, for the outside I would leave it as is but make the sign on the door black with white writing again instead of white with black writing.
Costume: Probably a mix of what the 8th doctor wore in The Night Of The Doctor, Matt's current look and the 1st Doctor's outfit. Might do a mash image later to give a better idea of what I mean. Although there is something I am working on that will give the effect more or less.
Stylin'.
For me, I loved The TV movie tardis. Very jules Verne- and the bats where a nice touch. The core I would take from Peter Davidsons and bring back the hexagonal white things- perhaps add some mcecher type black and white weirdness.
Clothes wise, I think I would revisit the long scarf... perhaps thinner and shorter with more harmonius autumn colors. A touch mary poppins... since I would be female. Maybe a collar that can be drawn up to a hood I could peer around mysteriously. Fingerless gloves or sleeves that act that way... (england and wales is chilly to film in) Pockets for gadgets... no more 'one screwdriver fixes all'. My sonic would be coppers and brass- with aqua glow, and a long crystal exposed in the handle that dips like the tardis console when fired. Jelly babies and Jammy Dodgers all the way.
Hmm... what else... I would like to get my granddaughter susan back- that would be fun... romana would make a pretty awesome opponent- perhaps she is trying to bring back gallifrey but I know it would start up the war and we battle it out in different tardis'- trying our best not to hurt each other. Hmmm... a reprogrammed cybermat would be a fun pocket object.
Anyone else?
I was browsing through Forbidden Planets website last night & they have something that all of us Dr Who girls will die for. . . . . .Dr Who earings!!!
They have sonic screwdrivers, Cybermen heads, Daleks & Tardis's
I'm on my Xbox so can't put up a link or pictures but you really MUST check them out
Okay rushed this abit so not too good but gets the idea across of what the doctor would look like if I was cast in the role, but ideally with a more feminine figure:
Breakdown = 8th Doctor from The Night Of The Doctor as the base image with the boots and pants coloured black and the shirt cuffs brightened/lightened, 11th doctor's purple coat, 1st doctor's waistcoat and the shirt and tie are from a pic of Peter Capaldi, I also liked that the tie carries on the polka dot pattern that 11 had on his bowtie at the end. Also my feeble attempt of making the doctor appear mid regeneration(didn't want to add my face to it as yet lol.
i just bought the (Nu) Who Season 5 Bluray Set. Yes, even Germany finally has Doctor Who DVDs even in such a hellhole of a town. I watched the first episode of the season on my PS3, looks amazing.
I never saw doctor who growing up, I've watched the reboot since it came out though. A while ago I went back and watched the very first season of Doctor who (William Hartnel). I found that doctor far more interesting because he was so obviously selfish and self serving in the way he ignored others opinions and risked their lives to satisfy his curiosity.

Many years ago, back in the early days of radio station Double J (yeah, before they went to FM and became Triple J) they ran a serialised comedy show called "Doctor Poo" and he traveled about in a TURDIS that made the appropriate flushing sounds when moving through time and space. Never heard it in full, a bit before my time, but did hear some excerpts once so I know I'm not imagining it! ;D

Yes the series lost impact by splitting it in two.
Did someone say Doctor Who? I think I can hear it across the internet. ;D
Huge fan of both the new and classic series. I've also been getting into the Big Finish audio dramas which are fantastic. Season 8 can't get here fast enough though, I think Capaldi will be amazing.
Favorite doctors: Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Matt Smith, Patrick Troughton
rewatched The End of Time 1 & 2 and The Day of the Doctor + The Time of the Doctor during the week :) :( and :) again, can't wait for Pedro's first episode to air in August :)
Can anyone please explain to me how the Dr and Clara escaped from the end of his timeline. Season 7 ended with Matt Tennant and Clara at the end of the Doctors timeline seeing John Hurt. Then its the 50th anniversery. I mean I know Stevan Moffat can run fast and loose at times but still what the?????
timey wimey?
In the words of Captain 'I may not have called myself the doctor then' Grumpy.
"When did we start talking like children"
well looking at it logically they're inside the life of the Doctor, ending up in a sort of sealed off area, 11thy and Clara seemingly have no way out but if they're inside the Doctor's timeline then so is the TARDIS, so they just find her and escape before sending her back again, it's very spacey wacey ;)
I feel it is one of those things we may never find out(one word Sherlock) but to hurt your head more remember for the most part When the doctor 'meets' Clara he has met her already and we know all the Clara's prior to the season 7 ending are subsequent of her jumping into his timeline ie; all events in season 7 are happening simultaneously.
Hopefully something is said about it as the 50th had him talking past tense about it, same with the christmas special but who knows(taps nose).
That was fun for me trying to remember the stories each of those clips Clara was inserted in where from. It just seems a little strange I was hoping there was going to be some explanation in the anniversary episode (still loved it). Just Moffat's writing can get very frustrating at times
Probably a case of, Moffat: "It will be explained in time". *on his death bed* Moffat: "Well this is what happened a.......*dies*
Damn you Moffat!!!!!
HE HAS A PLAN!!!! This conversation can go on for hours and every writer and show runner has their faults, (I actually think Colin Baker was good at times :P). However sometimes I just want to tap into my inner Ace and strap a cannister of nitro 9 onto Moffat and tell him to start filling those plot holes and soon.
Just rewatched "The Angels Take Manhattan".
This is the one episode that actually manages to make me cry. I can really identify with the intense feelings of loss. And Amy Pond was one of my favorite New Who companions. This is better than a lot of movies.
Colin is actually one of my favorite versions of the doctor. *ducks flying debree*
Okay we have both just admitted to liking Colin Baker. Here is a spare backpack of nitro 9 for yourself, don't worry I have plenty. Now I suggest we run for the hills and fast
Ay when you say run we run.
I will always have Sly McCoy as my doctor, even when playing the spoons.
He would probably have to be my favorite, funny could be dark and mysterious and had Ace as a company. Oh is it August yet.
Nearly.
I've not loved it since the christmas carol episode with the flying shark but I am optimistic about Capaldi.
Hopefully with someone older as the Doctor. The tone gets a little darker, and we start watching it 'behind the sofa' again
I am just hoping that the Doctor has a character again. I know that the series is based on flexibility but they never seemed to work out who Matt Smith's Doctor was, fool or genius, old or young and he just seemed to be whatever he needed to be that week. Capaldi's got a fair few years of experience behind him and I hope he'll force the writers into writing him a little more consistently.

What you're describing is pretty typical for many of the incarnations of the Doctor, though. Tom Baker would flip between intense and brooding to childish and playful, genius and fool on a regular basis. So did Patrick Troughton. Matt Smith is definitely in my top four. I think I was depressed for about 2 weeks after he regenerated.
It'll be nice to actually get some kind of season trailer soon. I feel like so much of this season is shrouded in mystery. I started reading some on-set spoilers, but I slapped myself and got out because I don't want to know too many specifics. It was great to go through everything without having any pre-conceived notions, not sure why I want to suddenly change that now.

That special had some good ideas wrapped up in a rather poorly executed story.
Personally I believe Moffat has trouble pacing his stories. So sometimes you have good ideas poorly executed because he is too ambitious for a single episode story. Would of loved to see what he could of done writing wise in the classic era
Doctor Who is best multipart imo. Give me a bunch of three parters and I haz a happee.
Not sleeping tonight. Season 7 is now on Netflix streaming...
Glad you have discovered it! We're probably about 2 months away from season 8 now. I've been watching Capaldi on The Musketeers and he is quite dazzling (even as a villain).
I really liked Amy and Rory, personally. I like Clara too, but she hasn't really had much of a chance to be a real person, hopefully there will be lot to know about her in the future other than what she did in the time line.
If you want to get into the original series, Hulu probably has the best selection in one place, though it is still not anywhere near complete. I had to fill in the blanks with Dailymotion and stuff.
24 August for the new series on ABC 1.
We are here just waiting. My girl isn't thrilled with Capaldi, but at least she likes his other stuff.
Me, being middle aged and attracted to "older men" just adds to the anticipation!
Loved all of the last 3 regenerations. Tom Baker was "my first" Doctor.
I just love the whole thing, time travel, regeneration and varied enemies and companions. I'm getting a bit weary of Moffat at this time. Let's just wait and see.
There is a nice interview with Capaldi in The Sunday Times. http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/Magazine/article1435733.ece?shareToken=b613ab08469db8495ce06f369cc90f32

I'm just dashing out to get some jelly babies & i'm ready
I enjoyed it and I hope you all do to, that is all I will say.
Yes and no.
Overall it was a good intro and I think I will like Capaldi as the Doctor. The writing was all over the place though... shifting from comedy to creepy to super creepy to action to "lesbian kiss" to WTF without much rhyme or reason. By themselves they were good scenes but as a whole I kind of felt jerked all over the place. And hasn't Clara (or the splintered time fragments of Clara) had interaction with all the Doctors? I found her fretting over his appearance and not understanding him to be the same person to be odd.
I'll need to watch it again, there was a lot I enjoyed but the bits that jolted me out of the story didn't work for me so much.
New personality, new face, new Doctor. Same old Moffat.
Need we say anymore
(...didn't want to say it...but yeah...!)
I downloaded it earlier today, and now I'm about to watch it. I love Peter Capaldi's work, so having him as The Doctor makes me squeal (on the inside, since that might attract some attention)! I miss Amy and Rory a lot, but Clara's quick wit is just what this new Doctor needs. I think she's leaving the show, though. So many companions leaving too quickly. Romana was around for a long time, and so was Ace. Anyway, since Capaldi has been a huge fan since he was a kid I'm pretty sure he's going to bring a lot of old personality back to the role, and that's a huge plus for me. Off I go!
I have a feeling is was jerky as a subtle way of putting us in the doctor's shoes, since his mind was all over the place so were we. As for Fragment Clara, I think she hadn't seen this doctor yet as it hadn't happened since she had only gone into his past. Also I feel it is one thing to know about regeneration and another to actually witness it. I do look forward to the rest of the series though.
i really enjoyed the scene where Jenny thinks Vastra is painting her.
:D
I particularly liked the scene when Clara and the Doctor first meet up in the restaurant. Sold me on Capaldi.
And I had to laugh when poor Clara got whacked in the face with the newspaper. ;D
It looks as though the Scottish jokes will replace the Welsh ones of a few series back. And Clara was sounding a bit more Northern too...whatever next! ;)
It took me a little while to warm up to Capaldi, but after the restaurant scene, I really started to like him. The only thing I didn't like was the new intro music, it was trying to go to far back in the early '80s in my opinion. However I loved the new T.A.R.D.I.S on the inside :)
I'm neither here nor there about the music, by I like the steampunk cinematics in the new opening.
No decision yet about Capaldi, I NEVER like the new Doctor in the regeneration episode. Never had a Doctor who turned me off completely.
I have to admit: I really, really like Capaldi as the new Doctor. He really harkens back to some of the better Classic Who (specifically Pertwee and Baker). But I still hate Moffat's writing style with every fibre of my being. That being said, I'm just going to leave this here:

So... the garden at the end of "Deep Breath" was obviously the same garden from the Two Streams facility where Amy was trapped. Is this a big oops or intentional? Hmmm... And could Missy be The Rani, or maybe a female regeneration of The Master (Missy>Mistress), or did Mary Poppins (clearly a Time Lord) go mad?

more than likely it's just the same location reused rather than the Two Streams facility. Happens all the time in Doctor Who.

Oh, that would be a joy. She was my second favourite to Sarah Jane Smith.
In classic Who, there was a quarry used regualrly.. It was Skaro, Telos and bunch of other places - sometimes even Earth.
I watched it a second time but found my interest wandering pretty easily. It was good enough for the job of introducing Capaldi but it's no classic...
I like the new theme because it reminds me of the classic theme(namely 80's) and adds to proof they mean what they said that the show was going to be darker and feel more like the classic series. As for the ending scene I have seen some theories she could be Iris Wildthyme from the audios(others' have suggested this also). Which would fit as.... well spoilers. But I suppose some could look her up. I would like that twist but I see her just being a new character who isn't all there.
Or for a wild theory what if she is a much older Clara that has somehow gained the ability to time travel without the doctor(similar to the t.a.r.d.i.s having an effect on previous companions and River Song) but at the price of some of her sanity?
Well it was an introductution episode, when have they been classic stories. Good to see the new doctor but still....

I had thought something of the sort. Add in that she might be the woman who gave Clara the Doctor's number as tech support and the person who placed the advert she could be engineering her own existence which would be delightfully recursive.

Fourth, I believe. Nineteenth century Clara, Dalek Clara, and the current companion being the three we're sure of. Isn't it interesting that the Doctor always regenerates to a new form and Clara always regenerates to the same one? Mother of Timelords, perhaps?
wow, I so love the doctor wish I had a tv and the money to subscribe to the bbc or someone could invite me to England I'm half English and house trained.
I've gotta say, I do like the new Doctor. I might even wind up liking him more than Tennant (gasp), if the new episode was any indication.

i watched Genesis of The Daleks recently and a year ago Destiny Of The Daleks. Lovely stories. And both had a lot of the outdoor scenes filmed in that famous quarry i forgot the name of.
Can't remember the name but Colin Baker mentioned on a commentary(I think it was Attack of The Cybermen) that he lives not far from one of the main quarry's they would film at and that it was where his household rubbish would be dumped when the trucks picked it up.

"Don't look in that mirror! It's furious!" — The Doctor
I really liked the episode...I think Capaldi is going to be great, but it's too early to say where I'd rank him...there have been some doctors that took me a whole season to appreciate before I loved them. Word has it that he really comes into his own about midway through the series.

Well, that is the thing...it was splinters of her that met the previous doctors, and while she does seem to have received some memories of them, she certainly never got to know any of them like she knew Eleven, *her* doctor. I think she was less concerned about his appearance than she was about his personality. I felt like the show was sort of scolding a certain portion of the fanbase that has been crying about the Doctor not being young and pretty. Which I certainly saw far too much of on the internet since his casting was announced. Perhaps it was a bit too heavy handed, though. I could have done without it.
The scene with the hobo in the alley (who was the late Liz Sladen's husband, btw) was brilliant, as was the whole restaurant scene.
"I bet you don't even remember where you got that face from!" he says as he also sees his own reflection. It'll be interesting to see where they go with that.
XII is ok so far, the other night's ep was the first time I saw him as The Doctor and not Peter Capaldi, which is good
Tonight episode rocked!
It's going to drive me crazy though cause it was in Bristol, I was born here & i've always lived here but i'm not sure if it was filmed here as I couldn't tell where that old train station is, ARRRGH!!
Around our main train station there are loads & loads of disused sidings that the public can't get to, I studied the houses on the hills in the background & it looks familiar but I can't quite put my finger on the place. I'm gonna have to watch it in slo-mo (with lots of pausing) or this will drive me nutty!
Seriously one of the best episodes in this season, and I had already ranked the Caretaker and Mummy on the Orient Express very highly.
We wait for tonight. But, if it takes place in Brizzle, then I should be able to recognise a few places. Plain old England is often the most effective backdrop for The Doctor.
I caught the 6.30am screening! And will watch it again at 7.30 tonight. HARDCORE!

No, just a bit of local knowledge picked up over the years! (Family).
I'm not going to say it. I'm not ruining the T-relevant twist, no, no, bad Zoot, don't say it.

Great episode, totally loved it! I really hope Clara sticks around for another season, I really do.

They're far from my fave villain too but I always feel very unsettled and unsure of the outcome when they're on by virtue of their sadistic random insanity.
I hope I never see another damn cyberman ever again on Doctor Who. I'm so sick of them. Missy being "The Master" was a shoddy plot twist, as well. I really hope Moffat redeems himself with Season 9, or gives the reigns to someone else. Even the cleverest writers run out of ideas, especially when you have to write several stories a year. I do love Peter Capaldi as The Doctor, though. He made the whole 12 episodes worth it.

I
hate NuWho's Master. The original, vanDyked Master was cunning, sly, and every bit the Doctor's equal. Sure he was mustache-twisting melodramatic at times but that was all part of the charm of the villain. NuWho reinvented him to be The Joker without all the face paint. I mean, I squealed with glee when I found out that Derek Jacobi was The Master, and then was immediately disappointed when he almost immediately regenerated into what we got. :icon_chainsaw:

The Cybermen are today what Daleks were a few seasons ago, they just need some time off.
Missy being the master has been called since Ep 1 of this series, as soon as they gave the name away fan sites had called it.
Moffat can never redeem himself. No matter what he does, he has retconned far too much to ever be forgiven.
I think they pulled the trigger on the Missy grand plan a season too early. If they had continued the slow build of Missy taking the people who sacrificed themselves, revealing a little more each time and built up a threat for him to deal with this season it would have had alot more impact. Blowing the load in 2 episodes after a slow build like that seemed so rushed.
Capaldi is an awesome doctor though, cant believe people were complaining about it being too dark O.o

The first series was pretty dark, and even much of Tennant's era, but everyone got doe-eyed over Matt "Clumsy Cat" Smith, and forgot that The Doctor was once played by a 55 year old man. He's now over 2,000 years old, so seeing some wrinkles and some grumpiness was totally called for. I hope the next series is even darker. :)

Jeeze, I know it's pretty much open season on Moffat these days, but really?
For my money I enjoyed this season a lot more than the last. Sure there were some weak episodes (the nothing happens "monster under the bed" and the ludicrous "the moon is really a giant egg" episodes), some that were "meh" ("Robin Hood"...) but there were some awesome ones too (the 2D invaders and Mummy on the Orient Express for example)...admittedly most of the great ones weren't written by Moffat but so what? Clearly he's not hurting ratings otherwise the BBC would have dumped him ages ago and in TV land that is pretty much the only thing that matters. As much as many fans (apparently) want to see baffling esoteric original hard core sci fi (I mean, know I do) they seem to forget that, apart from the fact this is still at its core meant to be a children's TV show, the second the ratings drop they probably won't have any Doctor Who to complain about anyway. :-\
I love Capaldi as the Doctor. Moffat would have chosen Capaldi which clearly shows he's willing to try something different otherwise we'd have ended up with an even younger more hyper version of Matt Smith. Heaps of people were saying the new Doctor should have regenerated as a woman, the Master shows up as a woman and people are all "ugh how unoriginal!". If I hate a show I just stop watching it, that way I don't have to waste time watching it or complaining about it...
Moffat was mining the spirit of the short films from the 70s that were almost as scary as Doctor Who - the public information films!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XNPMYRlvySY
I don't hate Moffat. He's a phenomenal writer. I mean, he's known for Doctor Who and Sherlock, but he also wrote the miniseries Jekyll which was genius, and the sitcom Coupling; although, rather sexist, it was still hilarious. The problem is when you're one of just a handful of writers for a show that never stops. Your brain starts to get a bit worn out coming up with impressive material. I see it happen to bands, too. After a nice 2-3 year hiatus they often come back with music that totally trumps everything they've ever done. So, Moffat doesn't have to leave the show completely, but he should seriously take a break.
Grace, I see you included the Robin Hood episode under Meh, can I say it was without a doubt the worst episode of the "new era" Doctor Who I have seen. They built Capaldi as being quite dark and a bit ambiguous in terms of morality and then threw him into a comedy episode like that and it absolutely killed his momentum, in my opinion.

I agree, but on the flipside I did enjoy some of the Doctor's lines in that episode. This season/series has been hit and miss, but they all have been. I personally want to see more of 12/Capaldi (13 actually, but yannow, spoilers n stuff), as he's a rather fun grumpy/serious Doctor.
Just my opinion, and I only started with 9/Ecclson(sp?) (10 if you count that spoiler stuffs).
I rather enjoyed the Master coming back as a woman. I was close to making a comment about a Transgender Timelord but I knew my wife would knock me upside the head.
I am a huge Doctor Who and Torchwood fan. They need to do another TW series and base it back in the UK. I am in withdrawal now that the season of DW just ended. Very much liked Capaldi!

Capaldi is great, less goofy. What I don't like it that the writer thinks we have zero attention span. I grew up on Tom Baker as the Doctor and plot lines could stretch for 4 or more episodes and I loved that. Now they wrap things up in an episode whilst adding some short thing in the end that tries to tie everything into a season finale which is only a 2 part event anyway. I still love the show, don't get me wrong, I just feel like it is dumbed down for current generations that have no attention span. I figure if you can't keep up with the Doctor and his crazy adventures than you don't belong with him on his travels! I also hate the new intro and music, its not clever, its not even good CG... And Yes! so bored of the Cybermen and the Daleks, its old hat. I did love that Missy was the Master regenerated, I knew it! He was always such a bitch anyway! lol I have been waiting since I was a kid for the Doctor to regenerate into a woman! ;D

Never understood the appeal of this show
Just watched the latest Christmas special - they've been patchy in the past but I thought this one was stellar, possibly the best one! Put me in a good mood and that's all that matters I guess. ::)
I have just watched season 8 not a bad season compared to the Matt Smith era. Loved time heist. One problem I did have the Master/Missy is there is already a rebel Time Lord that alters humans into whatever she wishes for her own amusement. Rani.
I just think the continued use of The Master is getting a little old
They're no doubt in a bind - the Master/Mistress is too classic to just retire forever. It's a bit like with superhero comics, the Joker has become a bat$#&% boring character but every writer wants a crack at writing him despite generally diminishing returns. The general public expect to see him too.
To their credit Doctor Who came up with some new ideas and concepts as well. Some work, some don't. But the Master, daleks, Davros, cybermen and now the Weeping Angels are all too well known to be written out. I think they use them for the big events because the general audience (not just hard core fans) understand immediately what is at stake.
I really enjoy Capaldi as the Doctor, I was skeptical when he was first announced but he has quickly become my favorite Doctor in a long time.
just went and watched the christmas special, been hanging out for it lol
was a little corny tho i did get a few good laughs out of it
Still not sure i can say i like this doctor but he has started to grow on me

I'm still having a hard time comprehending just how many levels deep they were in.
What about that dude? Did he die? If so there should be one of those head-crab things wandering about causing trouble.
A creepy suggestion pulled by my sister: what if none of those people ever really existed.
Yeah, great point about the guy. But knowing Doctor Who they won't let a massive plot hole get in the way of a story! :)
I've seen a few episodes. Never really got into it. I bet if I watched enough I could though. Look like I could enjoy it. Just not using time for watching it is my thing.
I can relate to that, there are plenty of TV shows people rave about that I have never been able to invest the time in watching. Sure I might like them but there are only so many hours in the day and I've got other stuff to do. Maybe when I'm recovering from SRS or in a retirement village...!

Yes that Ace. The only companion probably the only person who took on a Dalek and won with a baseball bat :icon_bat:
Doctor Who... Big fan. My first full episode was the Eleventh Hour, so I got to meet the Doctor the way Amy Pond did, essentially, and I seriously bonded with the show from there. I don't think I've ever been so agitated over a character being written out of a show as I was when Amy was leaving, because it felt like the whole first part of Series 7 was leading up to her getting killed, and I just remember being so choked up when I saw how things finally ended, when she and Rory took that jump off the ledge together to create the time paradox that would free them from the Angels' grasp. I'm slowly but surely making my way through the classic series, now, if horribly out of order. A ton of it is up on Hulu, which makes it easy, but there's holes. Trial of a Timelord is missing, as is the War Games and a few others. I saw Trial... I think I was asking for pain trying to sit through Colin Baker serials, but I did. I think my favorite Doctors are 11, then 7, then 10, 5 and 12, which makes me a weirdo because I don't immediately list Tom Baker first. But really, it's the companions that make this for me. Amy, Ace, Clara... all women I adore.
Matt Smith simply -is- my Doctor, no bones about it. I wasn't sure about him at first, but by the time he faced down the Atraxi, he had won me over. And while I have enjoyed Peter Capaldi's portrayal very much, if I had to travel with any of the Doctors, I would pick Matt every time.

Hello to all the Dr who fans out there, i'm posting a Dr Who fan fiction on the forum, i'm writing it the old fashioned way (pen & paper), as each section is completed i'll add it to the ever growing story.
If anyone has any favourite aliens/villians they would like included then feel free to let me know. I'd appreciate any feedback good or bad.
Once finished i'll be sending this off to the BBC in the hope of inspiring the Beeb to give the Dr a transitioning assistant as I feel that the Dr would be a great advocate of transitioners (Anyone remember Susan the horse?), the Dr reaches the hearts & minds of millions around the world & would be perfect for showing his fans that we transpeople are just normal people facing a very difficult time in our lives.

Can't remember if I mentioned I saw the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular in January, I loved it, Peter Davison was good as were the orchestra, singer and suit actors. Only thing that would have made the experience better was if I had someone to watch it with, ah well.
Just though I would throw my hat in the list as a whovian. I have been an off and on fan till the reboot. I have watched all the episodes with Peter but I feel he just is not the doctor. He is trying way to hard. My fav dr is David then Matt.

Well, everyone has their favorites and least favorites. Personally, I like all of the doctors. Though I'll admit that there are a few that didn't click quite as well as others, and that would be 1, 6, and 7. But again, I like them - I just don't love them. Capaldi isn't trying to hard...he's just a different kind of doctor - a kind we haven't had for a long time.
Supposedly he's going to be a bit warmer and more confident in season 9, so hopefully he'll win over those that are on the fence about him.
Also, Ace is awesome.
I've never seen this show, but I think I'll like it when I get around to watching it.

Original Trek holds a special place in my heart, it was the first show my mom let me stay up to watch. That being said, for most of the 50 years or so that Doctor Who has been on the air it's been the better show of the two. Lower budget, but better.
Yay whovians! My favorite episode is the one with van gogh. I Love Dr who so much I'm glad to see I'm not alone here.
Disney infinity is releasing Dr who characters for those with kids!
Ooh! Ooh! Sweetie saw a local fabric store selling material based upon the painting from that Van Gogh episode just yesterday!
The Dr who van gogh picture hangs in our bedroom but I'd love some pillows or curtains to go with it! Thanks for the tip!
Hiya! Just joined, and YUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!! Mahoosive Whovian here! I've been watching it since I was one year old (so for 18 years now), becoming a fan during the Wilderness Years (between 7th and 9th Doctors). My obsession was sustained by VHS' of the classic series an Big Finish audio dramas (leading to Paul McGann becoming my favourite Doctor s a result of his Big Finish performances).

Yes that Ace. The only companion probably the only person who took on a Dalek and won with a baseball bat :icon_bat:
Ace is my favourite companion for that reason; one of few companions in the classic series with a good character arc :D
About the latest series, whilst I love Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman's performances, I found the series to be hit and miss, either being some of the worst (e.g. Robots of Sherwood) or best (e.g. Listen) episodes yet :)
Oh, I love Doctor Who. Really, it filled the gap that battlestar gallactica leaved in my heart once it ended! So far, I only watched the new series and the first season of the classic. Here in Brazil, is kinda hard to find the old series, so, i torrent the whole thing xD
The Tenth is my favorite Doctor. Nine was great, but didnt have time to grew, since Eccleston left the show. The firsts Eleventh episodes were kinda painful for me, Matt Smith seems to be strugling, but grew to be a great Doctor. So far, Capaldi is a great Doctor, and I cant wait to see him with the other Doctors (if thats ever gonna happen, who knows). My son calls him "the grumpy doctor" lol He watchs Doctor who with me even if he doesnt understand english and is still learning to read the subtitles.
I even got a fourth doctor scarf that my friend got in UK for me! This kinda stuff is very rare in Brazil, you know!
My favorite episode is "Forest of the Dead" and "Silence in the Library"
I used to be very into Doctor Who last year, and though it's no longer occupying my every waking thought, I'm still a fan :)
My favourite Doctor would be Nine, I think he had the sturdiest morals of all the 21st century Doctors. The grumpy no-nonsense attitude was also very endearing.
My favourite actor would be David Tennant. I may not have liked Ten's actions as the Doctor so much, but I certainly was a fan of his personality. Hypermanic is so fun.

So psyched for series 9. Between the new trailer and listening to a Queer based Podcast about Doctor Who, I decided to go back and rewatch Nuwho.

Do you have the name of the podcast? I would like to give it a listen. Been getting into some really good podcasts lately.
And I am really excited for Series 9 myself. I have been watching since the 9th Doctor was on the (then) Sci-Fi Channel. That got me into the new series, which led me to the old series. My local library has been adding the DVDs of the show (old and new series) so it has been nice to catch up there. I can't remember what Netflix has for the old series though.
There is a podcast that I know of though! It is called "Bigger On The Inside". Two guys sit down and watch Doctor Who from the very beginning all the way up to the current Doctor. It is really good. :-)
For those that haven't been able to watch the doctor lately Netflix is finally getting season 8. I know a lot of you have already seen it, I had to drop cable and haven't been able to see it. Yeah [emoji7]

Sure, the name of the podcast is called "The Web of Queer" and it is Fantastic ;)
Netflix has random old stories like I want to say 1 from every season but I am not sure. I have watched some of it, however I have not finished what they have.
I Just got into who Two years ago, so a bit of a newbie but still love it. Christopher Eccleston is my favorite Doctor.
I will thinking about looking into that podcast. :)
Thanks for sharing the podcast with me!
I am looking forward to it.

You welcome :) let me know what you think.
Just thought I would share that Doctor Who just casted its 1st Transgender actress Bethany Black. There is no news though on what kind of character she is playing. I am excited though none the less.

Yay, Doctor Who fans! :D I'm massive Doctor Who fan, to the point where my parents made my thirtieth birthday Doctor Who-themed with banners and cake decorations. Got into it when the new series started, though I've since gone back and checked out a fair chunk of the classic stuff (and I've got a sizeable DVD collection thanks to a friend offloading loads on me). Matt Smith is my favourite Doctor; I just love the way he completely inhabited the role, managing to be young and childish but with the old man lurking just under the surface. Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker and David Tennant are also favourites, and Peter Capaldi is closing the ranks fast; it's great to see such a change of pace after the young geeky Doctor was done so well by Smith and Tennant. Stupidly excited for LEGO Dimensions and the Doctor Who stuff they've got in there (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_1Yu50qSyE) - I'm going to be so broke when that game comes out ;).
Yippee. 8th season on Netflix today.

The LEGO Dimensions looks like a lot of fun!
Which reminds me. Does anyone know when the LEGO Doctor Who sets are coming out? To the best of my knowledge, I think there are a few sets. Maybe 3 or 4?
New trailer!

There's been no news on the actual sets as far as I'm aware, not even what will be in them. We're getting the twelfth Doctor, K-9, a Cyberman and a Dalek in the LEGO Dimensions stuff though (plus every other Doctor, Clara and Missy in the game itself), so they'll probably feature in there somewhere.

Neat! I did like the trailer. It has me excited for the new series. I wasn't crazy about the quickly jumping back and forth to black. I get that it makes the footage more exciting this way. But all it does is make me have a headache. Plus it feels so blah, when trailers do that. Okay rant over. :)

ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG Now I am even more excited.
Is anyone else going to go see the two part series 8 finally in theaters with the extra short that will lead into series 9?
I have a timer on my phone to set up my DVR to record the new series. I'm so hyped right now, especially with Missy coming back.
I do believe that I talked into cable, just as New episodes are around the corner....with a DVR....Hmmmmm the universe speaks :D
SERIES 9 STARTS TONIGHT!!!
AHHHHH!!! IM SO EXCITED!! LOL.
THAT ENDING.

I can't wait for next week. So glad that Missy is back.
Missy was awesome in this episode!
OMG, my wife and I watched the episode and wow, awesome!!!! Can't wait for next week :)
Loved it so much :D. So glad I managed to avoid any big spoilers; gasped really loudly at the reveal before the credits :D. Peter Capaldi remains utterly amazing, and can we have Michelle Gomez in it every week? Can she just show up and be snide for a bit?
I love this part of the year, when we have new Doctor Who to look forward to every week for a bit. Can't wait for Saturday :D.

I just read that this is it for the series anyone with insider info
Is Doctor Who facing cancellation?

These stories always pop up when a new doctor is getting their feet in the show, never amounts to anything more than a scare tactic, like the stories about Capaldi leaving now that his costar is leaving(spoilers) and to be fair I feel he is too big of a fan of the show to do that. I wouldn't worry about it.
That sounds about right to me as well.
I remember a rumor going around the Internet when Matt Smith was the Doctor. Apparently, he wanted to leave after doing one series (Series 5, I believe). Obviously, that didn't happen. :)
I always wait until there is something official from the BBC or from the actor themselves. Less confusion that way. Lol.
good to know
CLARA!!!!
They'd better not kill Clara off, after all she's not had her's and Danny's offspring who looked just like Danny whose grandparents were time travelers.
Do the plot-lines and writing seem a bit scattered this year. Although I haven't missed an episode this year, I'm just not getting the warm fuzzies about the show.
And anyone else think that sonic sunglasses are a STUPID idea?
Still waiting for Bethany also or have I missed her?

Personally, I think this series has been a step
up. Lol. Compared to Series 8, it has paid more attention to the whole character of the Doctor. Why he does what he does and the consequences his actions have. Even if he makes a decision for the right reasons (at the time), this season has shown that it has ramifications.
Series 8 was, for me, was just a slog of mediocre episodes that relied to heavily on the companion to lend weight to them. Peter Calpaldi was a great choice for the Doctor, but boy was that series hard to get through. I did like a few episodes and I like that Clara wasn't a special chosen mystery for the Doctor to solve. Which they have kept in (mostly intact) in the Series 9.
(
I agree with you that the found footage episode was a mess. It just didn't make sense to me.)
Personally I haven't disliked a single episode this series unlike last series, definitely feels improved this year now that they let Peter carry it more and relied less on Jenna.
I've only seen season 8, but so far, I didn't like Capaldi very much. He's been very blunt and seemingly uncaring about things whereas Tennant and Smith felt much more emotional. I hope Season 9 is better...I have heard good things.
Season 9 was great - with some very good stories (most of them are two parters so the narrative and characters have more room to grow) and some awesome moments. Capaldi has really grown into the role - but then I really like his acerbic wit, in many ways it is classic Who since many of the earlier Doctors were exactly the same.

That's kind of how Smith was to me when he first started. He did funny very well, but he wasn't very good in the serious or emotional scenes. By the later seasons though, he had really grown into the role. Tennant is still my favorite doctor though. Poor Eccleston, nobody ever talks about him. I actually think he made a good Doctor, he just really didn't look the part.

Poor Eccleston, nobody ever talks about him.
It's also his fault for leaving after only one season, didn't really give people a chance to know him or to develop his version of the Doctor. A shame because he was great. I understand he didn't like how he was being treated by the BBC and "didn't want to be typecast". Clearly it hasn't bothered Tennant and, to a lesser degree Smith, both have found roles, some of them great, post-Who. Eccleston not so much.
QuoteDoctor Who won't be returning to TV screens until 2017, following the announcement that it will be boss Steven Moffat's last season.

I think we are getting a Christmas special still?
After too long of a wait, a new Doctor Who episode for Christmas day.
Don't miss it!
The full series is scheduled to return in April 2017.
